Mid Year Book Freakout Tag! (2020)

**Mid-Year Book Freakout: A Look Back at My Favorite Books**

I'm sitting here with my books, and I just can't help but feel a sense of excitement and joy. Among these stories, there's one that stands out to me - it's set in the Wild West, featuring Calamity Jane, Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, and all these different characters, including werewolves. Yes, you read that right - werewolves! It may seem like an unusual combination, but somehow, they make it work, and I have to say, it's my least favorite of the series. The time period just doesn't really interest me that much, and I don't know a lot about the historical figures, which made it feel a bit boring at times. However, there were still many instances where it made me laugh and put a smile on my face.

**Collecting Beautiful Books**

One of my favorite things to do is collecting beautiful books, especially classic editions. This year has been no exception, as I've acquired quite a few new additions to my collection. Among these are the gorgeous Alice editions, which are truly stunning. Unfortunately, I don't remember when the Mina Lima edition came out - it might have been at the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020 - but regardless of that, it's definitely worth mentioning. The design is exquisite, with many interactive elements to the story, such as where Alice grows bigger, and you can even pull her feet! I'm a huge fan of Minalima editions, and if you haven't seen them yet, definitely check them out - they're well worth the money.

**Die-Cut Seasons Editions**

Another exciting release this year is the Seasons edition series. These special editions are die-cut, with intricate designs that make them truly unique. The Wonderlands collection is already familiar to me, but these new ones take it to a whole new level. What's interesting about these editions is that only 10,000 copies were printed, making each one quite rare and collectible. I was thrilled to pre-order mine twice to ensure I got my hands on them before they sold out. The special packaging has also improved, with a more durable plastic cover that will last longer than the previous version.

**Mid-Year Book Freakout: What's Left to Read**

As for what books I need to read by the end of the year, there are so many on my list! One of them is "The Handmaid's Tale", which has been lingering on my yearly TBR since 2016 - I'm determined to finally get to it. However, with so many other amazing books still waiting to be read, this might be an impossible task. Among the numerous titles I want to tackle are plenty more classics and contemporary novels that have piqued my interest over the past six months. If you haven't joined in on the mid-year book freakout, it's not too late - there are plenty of books waiting for you out there!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone it's hailey and today i'm going to be doing the mid-year freakout book tag so before actually getting into this video i just want to obviously address the fact that i haven't uploaded in a month which is very unlike me i think in the six years of doing youtube the longest break that i've taken is maybe two weeks but if you want to skip past this like i'll have a time stamp down below but i have just been in a not so great place mentally like i struggle with anxiety and depression and anxiety has kind of always been an issue but depression i had under control but now that has kind of started to resurface i have a lot of things going on in my personal life that i'm not going to really talk about but it's just been like a combination of things that has had me under a lot of stress and i've also felt just really not confident i've kind of lost all my confidence like in my content and everything and it just felt like the right time for me to take a break and it kind of ended up being a little bit longer than expected but i'm back now and like i'm still not 100 but i'm working on it you know it's going to be a journey it's going to take time so i'm hoping that getting back to a regular uploading schedule which i'm going to try to do will help out a little bit but it's not going to be a fun time but yeah that's kind of where i'm at like i felt uncomfortable just acting like nothing happened when i literally disappeared for a very long time from all social media but now i'm back and gonna get better like i'm doing okay right now it's kind of like it's a lot of ups and downs and ebbs and flows but i feel like having some stability and some sort of schedule might help me obviously like i'm sorry for disappearing during a pandemic but i know that a lot of people have been struggling more with their mental health because of that and i was doing really well at the beginning i was uploading like so much and i got to schedule and it was great but then just a lot of stuff started happening in my personal life that was really really stressful and yeah that's all been a lot so anyways that's kind of my mini explanation which really doesn't tell you anything but i hope it kind of helps to clear some stuff up but i decided to come back with this book tag because it is one of my favorite ties to film i don't do many tags anymore but i love doing this one every year i don't know how many times i've done it maybe three or four but basically it's kind of a roundup of what you've read so far in the year when you're halfway through the year so we're a little bit more than that it's almost august i don't know when i'll upload this but it's almost august and obviously the end of june is halfway through the year but while i was gone and actually not uploading i did read some really great books that i'm excited to talk about in some recent reads videos so i have gotten kind of caught up on my goodreads goal my goal is to read 100 books this year which is basically two books a week and i've been kind of falling behind then getting there then falling behind then getting there but i've read 51 books so far this year so i'm four books behind as of right now and i'm hoping that i'll be able to kind of catch up with it but like i've been super focused on reading and then not really able to focus on reading so it's been a little bit all over the place just in general but i have some awesome books to talk about and i'm excited to get into this tag so let's do it so question number one is the best book that you've read so far this year and i have really had a year of reading historical fiction and loving historical fiction so it's no surprise that my favorite book of the year is a historical fiction and that book is the lovely war by julie berry i absolutely fell in love with this story and i feel like i've been talking about it so much and i've been recommending it to a lot of people because it is so beautiful the writing is fantastic and i just like i haven't felt this passionate about a book in a very very long time i feel like so definitely my favorite book of the year the audiobook was amazing it is set during world war one and it is two love stories that are narrated by the gods primarily aphrodite but you don't really need to know that much about mythology in order to appreciate the story it's just an interesting perspective that just adds to it but the characters themselves during world war one and their love stories are heartbreaking but so so beautiful like this is just one of those books that will stay with you for a very long time and it has definitely stayed with me and made a huge impact and i absolutely adored it so if you've been kind of hesitant to give this one a chance please do it's beautiful question two is the best sequel that you've read so far this year and it was upon reading this question that i realized that i have only read two sequels this year so i have read the night country by melissa albert which is the sequel to the hazel wood and i enjoyed that one but i think my favorite sequel that i have read this year is heart stopper volume 3 by alice oseman this is a graphic novel i've kind of fallen back into reading graphic novels which has been nice and they definitely help out with my goodreads school so that's kind of my little way of cheating but it's not really cheating but like anyways so heart stopper vol 3 was such a beautiful addition to this story it's actually a webcomic that then is printed but i wait for the actual like bound up volumes to come out but i read the ebook actually and i think it was a great addition to the story i love watching this romance between these two characters it is a male male romance and it is just super cute and heartwarming but also does have some serious elements to it i'm really sad though that i've only read two sequels so far this year knowing how many i have on my tbr like i keep saying i need to be better about that but what are you gonna do charlie wanted to say hello so we have a brief charlie intermission here hello sir and now you can go back to bed number three is a new release that you haven't read yet but you want to and i have so many so i couldn't just pick one i thought i had actually brought them upstairs but i guess i didn't but one is crescent city house of earth and blood by sarah j maas no i haven't read this yet i actually was thinking i don't think i've read a fantasy book yet this year which is kind of wild and i want to get back to it and i keep saying that once again like i feel like i'm a broken record if i'm annoying you don't worry i'm annoying myself but i had actually planned to pick up a fantasy book for my next read but then i didn't end up doing that just kind of on a whim ended up picking up another historical fiction but i definitely want to try and find a fantasy that i'll fall in love with and then i think i will get to this one because i've heard it's pretty dense in the beginning you get a lot of information so i don't think this will be the best one to just jump into with fantasy but definitely in the latter half of the year i want to try and get back to some fantastical reads also of course the king of crows came out earlier this year by libba bray this is the final book of the diviners series and i'm probably going to wait until around halloween since it's like we're almost there so it's the perfect read for that time of year so why not wait also on my list that i thought i had brought up here but i guess i didn't i have loveboat taipei i definitely picked these up but like where did i put them i don't know but also the conference of birds by ransom riggs which is the next book in the miss peregrine series don't read the comments by eric smith and what was the other one the ballad of songbirds and snakes by suzanne collins which i'm very skeptical but i still want to read it question 4 is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year which of course once again i couldn't just pick one so i do own one of these already and that is smash it by francina simone this is an othello retelling you might know francina from her channel here on booktube and i love her and i have heard so much about this book so many good things that i feel like it is going to be absolutely amazing and just knowing francina i think this is going to be a smash hit oh nailed it i also have kingdom of the wicked by carrie maniscalco this is a new series by carrie maniscalco who is the author of stalking jack the ripper i don't really remember what this new series was about but i'm definitely intrigued by it and the other one is on birthday which i don't even know who the author is i can't remember right now but it is the newest twisted tales book that is coming out this fall and it is an alice in wonderland retelling which i'm so excited for obviously i was hoping that they would do alice but i wasn't too sure but they are doing it and i'm just like i am so so excited you guys keep sending me messages about it like letting me know just in case i didn't know but don't worry i know it is at the top of my wish list and i'm pumped number five is the most disappointing book that you've read so far this year so i actually have two the first one is the betrothed by kiera cass i did a whole vlog where i was reading this book and it was a lot like i have thoughts on it i can't i don't think i've included it in a review like a recent reads video yet but i have so many books to include in a recent reads video that i don't really know what i'm gonna do with that yet but i'll figure it out i do go into pretty in-depth thoughts in that reading vlog though so if you wanted to know more of my thoughts you can watch that i will link it down below for you guys but basically it was just like a whole lot of nothing and yeah it it was disappointing to say the least also like super super unfortunately i kissed alice by anna birch was really disappointing to me i actually ended up dnfing this one i so badly wanted to love it like it is a female female romance and it's enemies to lovers and they have this comic that they're writing that is alice in wonderland inspired and everything about that just sounded amazing but unfortunately i had a really hard time with the writing and there was just too much enemies stuff i wasn't getting the chemistry or the romance it was just very hard for me to get into and i found myself not really wanting to continue reading it so i decided to just dnf it which is really sad but i haven't dnf'd that many books so far this year i think this might be the only one actually but it was for good reason i gave it a good chance and it just it wasn't for me next is your biggest surprise and that would have to be felix ever after by casein calendar this wasn't a surprise in that i didn't think i would like it it's just how much i loved it i loved the story of felix and it was just like there were so many things going on in it and i loved the fact that they were at art school and it was just a beautiful beautiful romance but also a story of self-acceptance and discovery so it follows felix who is a transgender boy and he is going to this art school and someone ends up doing some terrible transphobic things and he is trying to figure out who did it and he ends up in kind of a love triangle unexpectedly because he ends up catfishing this other guy and it just it all kind of ends up spiraling but it is truly totally worth the hype like this book is super hyped up and it completely lives up to that which was such a pleasant surprise because i feel like so many times i read books that are hyped up and i don't end up loving them as much but like i truly fell in love with this story definitely give it a go next is your favorite new author and i feel kind of weird saying this is a favorite new author because i've only read one of her books this year but i feel like it just fits and that is ryan graudin so i read wolf by wolf earlier this year you might remember i also read this in a vlog and like totally was blown away by it loved it way more than i was expecting to but i read one of her other books and i also liked that one and then i have invictus on my tbr as well which is like a sci-fi time travel doctor who sort of inspired book that i do really want to read and i want to read blood for blood that was what i was planning on reading next if i didn't read a fantasy but i didn't end up picking it up like i literally just went against everything that i was planning on reading and just picked up whatever it was still a historical fiction but the problem with that is now i feel like i need to take a break from historical fiction because they're both world war two historical fictions until i can pick up blood for blood but i definitely want to read it before the end of the year because we all know how bad i am with sequels and i want to get better at that why i feel like she is new favorite author for me though is because her books are just so unique she takes the weirdest concepts and creates these fascinating stories around them they're unlike any other books that i've read in y a and i just love the uniqueness of them next is my newest fictional crush and i feel like i don't really get fictional crushes all that often but i'd have to say probably braden mack from the what is that series called i can't think of it right now oh bromance book club so he isn't the first book but the second book undercover bromance which i should have grabbed but it's downstairs but you know what it looks like so that book i read this year and i think i felt even more in love with him there's just something about him as a character he's kind of like the broody bad boy but he's also really sweet and i just love that next is your newest favorite character and that would have to be jack from opposite of always by justin a reynolds i loved jack from starting this book his voice was just so strong and loud and it made me fall in love with the story he's just such a compelling character and that's what made me want to continue with this book it's very character driven and it's driven by him obviously because like it's his perspective and everything but there's just something about him that was super lovable and for me it completely carried the story and i ended up really liking it next is a book that made me cry and i don't really cry at books that often but one that definitely made me emotional is like a love story by abdi nazemian there's a certain part in this book and it is set during the aids crisis and it follows these different teenagers and there's just like there's a lot of emotional things happening in this book but there's just a certain part that you kind of like you know it's probably coming you kind of are getting hints and ideas of it and it just when it happens it it totally tore out my heart and like stomped on it it involves just like i don't want to say anymore because i don't want to spoil you but this is definitely a pretty emotional read unsurprisingly next is a book that made you happy and that would have to be my calamity jane by the lady janiece aka cynthia hand brodie ashton and jody meadows so these books like this whole series they have three of them so far but they're moving on to mary's or marie's next i can't remember i think it's mary's because mary queen of scots i think is the next one and it's set in the same universe as my lady jane but anyways these are satirical stories so like they're made to make you laugh this one in particular is set in the wild west you follow calamity jane annie oakley frank butler and all these different characters and it also has werewolves in it so that's the twist like it doesn't seem like it would work but they make it work and i will say this is my least favorite of the series i think that the time period just doesn't really interest me that much and i don't know that much about the historical figures so i found it kind of boring but it still had a lot of instances where it made me laugh and was making me smile next is the most beautiful books that you have bought this year so i actually have acquired quite a few new like pretty classics editions because i love collecting those but i have a couple of alice editions here of course so i can't remember if this mina lima edition came out at the end of 2019 or at the beginning of 2020 so i'm sorry if it came out in 2019 but nonetheless it's worth mentioning it is gorgeous like so beautiful there's so many interactive elements to the story too like where she's growing bigger like how fun is that you can pull her feet and i just love these minalima editions if you haven't seen them yet definitely check them out i feel like they're way worth the money but yeah totally gorgeous and then the other one is the seasons edition so they came out with the summer no these are are they summer or winter these ones are winter i think but nonetheless so the idea of these seasons editions is that they're actually die-cut i think is the terminology so like where you see it cut out it's actually like that this is the wonderland collection but the thing with these is that they only print 10 000 copies so i pre-ordered mine twice because i wanted to make sure that i got it so because it hadn't shipped yet and it was out and i was like why haven't i gotten it yet and i was going to die if i didn't have it not literally that's dramatic but like it would have been tragic i would have been really really sad about it so i have acquired all of these now i was able to get the older ones which i think summer came out first no it was definitely when these ones are summer and the other ones are winter because these ones came out in the summer and the winter ones came out in the winter wow struggles i'm sorry but yeah these once again if you haven't seen them totally check them out because they are absolutely gorgeous i love that this with these new ones they have made the like plastic cover they've made it a little bit more durable so we'll have more longevity because the other one was just a flimsy plastic but this will last and the final question is what books do you need to read by the end of the year and there are literally so many like i'm not even gonna list i mean the handmaid's tale i still haven't read yet and that has been on my yearly tbr since like 2016. i don't know it's been out there for a long time so i would like to get to that one but literally there are so many books that i need to get to and would like to get to so that is the mid-year freakout book tag if you guys haven't is it the mid-year book freakout tag i don't remember charlie wants to come on my lap what's up buddy we are such a needy boy but yeah i hope you guys enjoyed this video i will have the questions and stuff down below for you guys i actually had a better experience filming this than i was expecting just because it's been so long usually when it's been a really long time since i filmed i'm like all over the place and i can't get my words out but my only problem is i've been battling but that is the same as if i was just filming one after the other i just always babble i talk a lot i'm sorry but thank you guys so much for watching today's video i hope you guys enjoyed it and thank you for being patient with me while i've been away i'm hoping that i'll be able to get back to a schedule with some ease but we shall see i kind of need to like take out my planner and write some stuff down and figure out what i want to upload but if there are any videos in particular that you would like to see please let me know comment them down below and i will see what i can film for you guys but i hope you guys enjoyed this video once again i already said that but yeah i will see you in the next one bye of course i do fine with filming but like actually ending the video i forget how to do that oh well youhey everyone it's hailey and today i'm going to be doing the mid-year freakout book tag so before actually getting into this video i just want to obviously address the fact that i haven't uploaded in a month which is very unlike me i think in the six years of doing youtube the longest break that i've taken is maybe two weeks but if you want to skip past this like i'll have a time stamp down below but i have just been in a not so great place mentally like i struggle with anxiety and depression and anxiety has kind of always been an issue but depression i had under control but now that has kind of started to resurface i have a not confident i've kind of lost all my confidence like in my content and everything and it just felt like the right time for me to take a break and it kind of ended up being a little bit longer than expected but i'm back now and like i'm still not 100 but i'm working on it you know it's going to be a journey it's going to take time so i'm hoping that getting back to a regular uploading schedule which i'm going to try to do will help out a little bit but it's not going to be a fun time but yeah that's kind of where i'm at like i felt uncomfortable just acting like nothing happened when i literally disappeared for a very long time from all social media but now i'm back and gonna get better like i'm doing okay right now it's kind of like it's a lot of ups and downs and ebbs and flows but i feel like having some stability and some sort of schedule might help me obviously like i'm sorry for disappearing during a pandemic but i know that a lot of people have been struggling more with their mental health because of that and i was doing really well at the beginning i was uploading like so much and i got to schedule and it was great but then just a lot of stuff started happening in my personal life that was really really stressful and yeah that's all been a lot so anyways that's kind of my mini explanation which really doesn't tell you anything but i hope it kind of helps to clear some stuff up but i decided to come back with this book tag because it is one of my favorite ties to film i don't do many tags anymore but i love doing this one every year i don't know how many definitely give it a go next is your favorite new author and i feel kind of weird saying this is a favorite new author because i've only read one of her books this year but i feel like it just fits and that is ryan graudin so i read wolf by wolf earlier this year you might remember i also read this in a vlog and like totally was blown away by it loved it way more than i was expecting to but i read one of her other books and i also liked that one and then i have invictus on my tbr as well which is like a sci-fi time travel doctor who sort of inspired book that i do really want to read and i want to read blood for blood that was what i was planning on reading next if i didn't read a fantasy but i didn't end up picking it up like i literally just went against everything that i was planning on reading and just picked up whatever it was still a historical fiction but the problem with that is now i feel like i need to take a break from historical fiction because they're both world war two historical fictions until i can pick up blood for blood but i definitely want to read it before the end of the year because we all know how bad i am with sequels and i want to get better at that why i feel like she is new favorite author for me though is because her books are just so unique she takes the weirdest concepts and creates these fascinating stories around them they're unlike any other books that i've read in y a and i just love the uniqueness of them next is my newest fictional crush and i feel like i don't really get fictional crushes all that often but i'd have to say probably braden mack from the what is that series called i can't think of it right now oh bromance book club so he isn't the first book but the second book undercover bromance which i should have grabbed but it's downstairs but you know what it looks like so that book i read this year and i think i felt even more in love with him there's just something about him as a character he's kind of like the broody bad boy but he's also really sweet and i just love that next is your newest favorite character and that would have to be jack from opposite of always by justin a reynolds i loved jack from starting this book his voice was just so strong and loud and it made me fall in love with the story he's just such a compelling character and that's what made me want to continue with this book it's very character driven and it's driven by him obviously because like it's his perspective and everything but there's just something about him that was super lovable and for me it completely carried the story and i ended up really liking it next is a book that made me cry and i don't really cry at books that often but one that definitely made me emotional is like a love story by abdi nazemian there's a certain part in this book and it is set during the aids crisis and it follows these different teenagers and there's just like there's a lot of emotional things happening in this book but there's just a certain part that you kind of like you know it's probably coming you kind of are getting hints and ideas of it and it just when it happens it it totally tore out my heart and like stomped on it it involves just like i don't want to say anymore because i don't want to spoil you but this is definitely a pretty emotional read unsurprisingly next is a book that made you happy and that would have to be my calamity jane by the lady janiece aka cynthia hand brodie ashton and jody meadows so these books like this whole series they have three of them so far but they're moving on to mary's or marie's next i can't remember i think it's mary's because mary queen of scots i think is the next one and it's set in the same universe as my lady jane but anyways these are satirical stories so like they're made to make you laugh this one in particular is set in the wild west you follow calamity jane annie oakley frank butler and all these different characters and it also has werewolves in it so that's the twist like it doesn't seem like it would work but they make it work and i will say this is my least favorite of the series i think that the time period just doesn't really interest me that much and i don't know that much about the historical figures so i found it kind of boring but it still had a lot of instances where it made me laugh and was making me smile next is the most beautiful books that you have bought this year so i actually have acquired quite a few new like pretty classics editions because i love collecting those but i have a couple of alice editions here of course so i can't remember if this mina lima edition came out at the end of 2019 or at the beginning of 2020 so i'm sorry if it came out in 2019 but nonetheless it's worth mentioning it is gorgeous like so beautiful there's so many interactive elements to the story too like where she's growing bigger like how fun is that you can pull her feet and i just love these minalima editions if you haven't seen them yet definitely check them out i feel like they're way worth the money but yeah totally gorgeous and then the other one is the seasons edition so they came out with the summer no these are are they summer or winter these ones are winter i think but nonetheless so the idea of these seasons editions is that they're actually die-cut i think is the terminology so like where you see it cut out it's actually like that this is the wonderland collection but the thing with these is that they only print 10 000 copies so i pre-ordered mine twice because i wanted to make sure that i got it so because it hadn't shipped yet and it was out and i was like why haven't i gotten it yet and i was going to die if i didn't have it not literally that's dramatic but like it would have been tragic i would have been really really sad about it so i have acquired all of these now i was able to get the older ones which i think summer came out first no it was definitely when these ones are summer and the other ones are winter because these ones came out in the summer and the winter ones came out in the winter wow struggles i'm sorry but yeah these once again if you haven't seen them totally check them out because they are absolutely gorgeous i love that this with these new ones they have made the like plastic cover they've made it a little bit more durable so we'll have more longevity because the other one was just a flimsy plastic but this will last and the final question is what books do you need to read by the end of the year and there are literally so many like i'm not even gonna list i mean the handmaid's tale i still haven't read yet and that has been on my yearly tbr since like 2016. i don't know it's been out there for a long time so i would like to get to that one but literally there are so many books that i need to get to and would like to get to so that is the mid-year freakout book tag if you guys haven't is it the mid-year book freakout tag i don't remember charlie wants to come on my lap what's up buddy we are such a needy boy but yeah i hope you guys enjoyed this video i will have the questions and stuff down below for you guys i actually had a better experience filming this than i was expecting just because it's been so long usually when it's been a really long time since i filmed i'm like all over the place and i can't get my words out but my only problem is i've been battling but that is the same as if i was just filming one after the other i just always babble i talk a lot i'm sorry but thank you guys so much for watching today's video i hope you guys enjoyed it and thank you for being patient with me while i've been away i'm hoping that i'll be able to get back to a schedule with some ease but we shall see i kind of need to like take out my planner and write some stuff down and figure out what i want to upload but if there are any videos in particular that you would like to see please let me know comment them down below and i will see what i can film for you guys but i hope you guys enjoyed this video once again i already said that but yeah i will see you in the next one bye of course i do fine with filming but like actually
