The Mille Miglia: A Celebration of Classic Cars in Siena
As I stepped into the beautiful city of Siena, Italy, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. This was day three of the Mille Miglia, one of my favorite events in Italy, and I was eager to explore the stunning landscapes and experience the thrill of classic cars cruising through the narrow streets. The event is known for its unique blend of history, passion, and beauty, and I was determined to soak up every moment.
As I made my way through the charming streets of Siena, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the sheer number of classic cars on display. The Mille Miglia is famous for its 1500cc class, and I was on the lookout for some of these iconic vehicles. As I walked through the crowds, I spotted several Ferrari 250 GTs, including one that belonged to Sir Stirling Moss, which added an extra layer of excitement to my day.
One of the most unique aspects of the Mille Miglia is the way the event is set up. The entire town is lined with restaurants and cafes, creating a festive atmosphere that's hard to match anywhere else in the world. I had settled into a beautiful pizzeria, where I could watch the cars cruise by while enjoying a cappuccino and potentially a glass of wine.
As I sipped my coffee, I couldn't help but notice the sheer number of classic cars on display. There were vintage Ferraris, Alfa Romanos, and even a few rare Porsche models. The owners and drivers of these vehicles were clearly passionate about their cars, and it was clear that this event was a labor of love for everyone involved.
As the day wore on, I began to think about my plan for the evening. I had decided to blast off from Siena and head to Parma, where the final stop for the day would be held. The goal was to capture the arrival of the classic cars as they made their way into town, which was always a thrilling experience.
As we arrived in Parma, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The whole town was out, and the streets were flooded with people eager to catch a glimpse of the passing cars. It was clear that this event was going to be an epic day, and I was determined to make the most of it.
Despite the chaos and excitement of the event, there were moments when things didn't quite go according to plan. For example, I had been warned about the potential for a "boss horse noises" sound effect to be used by some of the drivers, but it wasn't until later that I realized what they meant. It seemed that one of the drivers had decided to use a rather...unusual...sound effect to announce his presence, and it left me in stitches.
As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Despite the fact that we didn't see James and Tim at the final destination, which was part of our mission, I knew that I had experienced something truly special. The Mille Miglia is an event that's hard to forget, and I felt lucky to have been able to experience it.
As I packed up my camera gear and said goodbye to the beautiful city of Parma, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards everyone involved in the event. Thanks to Benson for helping me film and drive, Chris and Elliot for inviting me along, and Guy for being part of the adventure. And to all of you who have enjoyed this article, I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have.
