French Toast and Bacon Soft Pretzels

Today on The Stay At Home Chef, we're showing you how to make French toast and bacon soft pretzels, a fun twist on the classic soft pretzel turning this traditional twisted bread into a breakfast delight. You'll need to cook up some bacon for this, and I've already done that and reserved two tablespoons of the bacon drippings.

To make our dough, we're going to pour one-and-a-half cups of warm water into a stand mixer. Then, we'll add in a tablespoon of yeast, a quarter cup of brown sugar, that reserved two tablespoons of bacon drippings, and for strips of cooked and crumbled bacon. Last, we'll add in about three and a half cups of all-purpose flour. Kinda have to eyeball that I always start out with three and a half cups and then if I need more, I'll add more in.

Once the dough is mixed together until it's just combined, once the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowls you can kick it off and cover it with a clean dish towel. Let it rise for 20 minutes while we're waiting for it to rise, we can preheat the oven to 500 degrees and put together our little French toast batter to dip our pretzels into. You'll need one cup of milk, three eggs, a tablespoon of brown sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla, and half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

Just whisk this all together until it's just combined so that there are no lumps left. Set this aside once your dough has finished rising, you'll divide it into eight balls. I just break it in half, break it in half again, break those pieces in half again and that's how you get eight balls.

Then we're gonna take each of these balls and roll it out into a lunges maker rope about 12 inches long, and then twist it into a pretzel shape pinch it together so it stays. Repeat this process with all of your remaining dough, transfer each of these into a shallow baking dish. Take your egg mixture and pour it right over the top of these pretzels, we're gonna let them soak in the mixture for about five minutes and then flip it over and smoke them for five minutes more while those are soaking.

Prepare a baking sheet by either spraying it with nonstick spray or lining it with parchment paper, transfer the soaked pretzels over to your baking sheet. Then bake these in the 500-degree oven for seven to ten minutes until the tops are golden brown. Once they're done, brushed the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with brown sugar.
