Building a High-Performance Gaming PC with Fractal Design and NVIDIA's RTX 3070
If you're looking to build a powerful gaming PC that can handle even the most demanding games at high resolutions, then this setup is definitely worth considering. We'll be building a system around the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, which is one of the top-tier options available right now.
We've chosen a Fractal Design case as our chassis for this build, and we're pleased with how it's turned out. One thing to note is that the side panel on the case can be adjusted to expose more of the components, making it easier to access and upgrade individual parts in the future. This feature is especially useful when building a system like ours, which features a number of components that are tightly packed together.
To start, we'll begin with the CPU cooler. As our CPU cooler is extremely quiet, there's no need for excessive noise reduction, so let's just focus on getting the best possible performance out of it. We've chosen a case with plenty of mesh and airflow on the front to help dissipate heat away from the graphics card.
When building this system around 150-170 FPS at 1080p, we find that there's nothing to frown about. We'll move on to some other titles now and see how our Fractal Pop build performs with a different game. In Apex Legends, for example, we're able to get around 74 FPS at 4K max settings - this is definitely not a problem for most people.
However, as we switch to playing the same game at 1440p, our frame rate increases significantly, and we find ourselves getting around 160 FPS. This is truly impressive, especially when compared to some of the other high-end systems on the market. It's worth noting that we've turned down the visual quality slightly in order to achieve this level of performance.
The Fractal Design case is a great example of how to build a system that not only looks good but also performs well under heavy load. The side panel on the case can be adjusted to expose more of the components, making it easier to access and upgrade individual parts in the future. This feature is especially useful when building a system like ours, which features a number of components that are tightly packed together.
In terms of thermals, we find that our Fractal Pop build handles them well. The GPU utilization never gets too high, and we only see temperatures around 74 degrees on the GPU - this is perfectly manageable for most users. In contrast, our CPU sees temperatures around 55 degrees Celsius, which is also well within acceptable limits.
One of the standout features of this build is its ability to handle multiple resolutions without breaking a sweat. When playing Cyberpunk 2077 at Ray Tracing Ultra at 4K, we find that it's struggling to maintain frame rates above 30 FPS - however, when we switch to 1440p with DLSS enabled, our frame rate shoots back up to around 75-80 FPS.
We also like the fact that this build can be customized to suit individual preferences. For example, if you prefer a more streamlined look, you could consider removing the radiator from the top of the case - however, we found that it was still a good idea to have airflow in this area, even without the radiator.
In terms of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, this build delivers exactly what you'd expect from one of the top-tier options available right now. With its impressive performance and features like DLSS and ray tracing, this is definitely going to be a popular choice among gamers.
If you're looking for a high-performance gaming PC that can handle even the most demanding games at high resolutions, then this Fractal Design build with an RTX 3070 is definitely worth considering. We've put it through its paces in several different titles and found that it delivers impressive performance without breaking a sweat.
