Complete OBS Tutorial For New Streamers (2022)

The Ultimate Guide to Setting Up OBS for Streaming: A Step-by-Step Tutorial

Are you new to streaming and looking for a comprehensive guide on setting up OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) for your online broadcasts? Look no further! In this tutorial, we will take you through the process of setting up OBS from scratch, including the audio and video settings.

Firstly, let's talk about the importance of having good audio quality during your streams. The audio part of your stream is just as crucial as the video, and making sure that all audio sources are properly set up can make or break an otherwise great broadcast. So, in this tutorial, we'll be covering how to add multiple audio sources, including microphones, webcam audio, and other external devices.

**Adding Audio Sources**

To start with, you need to access the settings menu in OBS by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. From there, navigate to the "Sources" tab and click on the "+" button to add a new source. There are several types of audio sources you can add to OBS, including:

* Microphone: This allows you to connect your external microphone to your computer.

* Webcam Audio: This enables you to capture audio from your webcam.

* External Audio Device: This allows you to capture audio from an external device such as a soundboard or mixer.

Once you've added the desired audio source, you can adjust its levels and settings to suit your needs. For example, if you're using multiple microphones, you may need to balance their levels to ensure that each one is heard clearly during your stream.

**The Mixer**

Next, we have the mixer, which allows you to control the output of all audio sources. In OBS, the mixer is accessed by clicking on the "Mixer" tab in the settings menu. Here, you can adjust the levels and panning of each audio source to create a balanced mix that sounds great on your stream.

One important setting to note here is the "Mono" option, which allows you to switch between stereo and mono playback for individual sources. This can be useful if you're using multiple microphones or want to ensure that certain areas of your stream are heard clearly.

**Advanced Audio Properties**

The advanced audio properties section offers a range of options for fine-tuning your audio settings. Here, you can adjust the sync offset for each source, which allows you to align the audio with your video feed and create a seamless viewing experience.

You can also use this section to boost or attenuate specific frequencies to reduce background noise or enhance your overall sound quality.

**Filters**

In addition to adjusting levels and panning, OBS offers a range of filters that can help improve the overall quality of your stream. These include:

* De-noise: This filter reduces background noise and hum.

* De-shaker: This filter helps to remove camera shake and vibrations.

* Equalizer: This filter allows you to adjust the tone of your audio.

These filters are a great way to enhance your sound quality without having to invest in expensive equipment.

**Stream Settings**

Finally, we have the stream settings section, which determines how OBS will render your stream. Here, you can adjust settings such as:

* Resolution: Choose from a range of resolutions, including 1080p and 720p.

* Frame rate: Adjust the frame rate to optimize performance for your stream.

* Bitrate: Set the bitrate to balance quality with file size.

The auto-configuration wizard is also available here, which can help you set up your stream settings based on your internet speed and hardware configuration.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, setting up OBS for streaming requires a combination of technical knowledge and creativity. By following this tutorial, you'll be able to create a high-quality stream that showcases your audio and video to the world. Remember to experiment with different settings and filters to find what works best for your specific needs. Happy streaming!

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey since you're new to obs you probably want a free graphic spec i'll just start with that there's a free graphic spec on my discord the link to the discord is in the description on the left you will see free stuff neon overlay pack and then if you scroll to the bottom you can download it with this link here i want to say this first this video here is a basic version of my obs skillshare course that i just launched this video is great to get you started i made a bunch of them the previous years but i know many people like a very in-depth step-by-step explanation and that's really hard to do in youtube videos so if that's what you're looking for you can definitely check out this skillshare course here in total there are 11 in-depth lessons on a lot of stuff and this is just way more specific and in-depth than what this video is going to be which is normal because this is a youtube video i'm really excited about this course as i said i just launched it it's completely free to watch i worked on it for a long time in my description there will be a link that gives you 30 days for free so yeah you can check it out if you want now if you launch obs it can be very confusing right basically you have the usual settings bar on the top then you have your overlay and graphic settings and transition on the bottom and then next to that you can start streaming stop streaming and then go to your settings now for now there are only two things that are important right here on the top if you ever mess up your whole interface you can go to docs reset ui click ok and then it will completely reset everything and with resetting i mean the layout so as you can see you can grab any dock here and then just reposition it you can dock it somewhere else if you want and then resetting your ui just fixes that now the second important thing is the profile and the scene collection and these are basically presets for your ui and your settings so for example here under scene collection i can go to chroma 2 which is another collection and then i will have a whole graphics interface now these collections here also change some things in the settings here but it's pretty confusing which things in the settings are being changed by the scene collections and then which by the profiles so for that reason it's the easiest to just make a profile for example obs tutorial 2022 and then make a scene collection with the same name so that way for any purpose that you want to use obs for for example streaming recording low quality high quality you just make a profile and the scene collection then on the right you already saw me using it but you can access the settings here you have the general settings and the advanced which is the usual stuff then hot keys which is also pretty clear then you can also change your audio here and then the stream video and output tab or your stream settings i wanna focus on the graphics of your stream first so the scenes and the sources and then also adding a stinger transition which is part of my free overlay pack however before doing that i need to thank the sponsor of today's video which is owned pro owned pro is a free plugin for obs studio that will give your stream a professional look with a single click you can install one of the five fully animated and completely free overlay packs with a bunch of scenes already set up they also let you easily import your twitch alerts your stream's chat and your labels there's also a chatbot to set up with basic commands moderation timers and giveaways there's a countdown timer and there's 30 minutes of free epidemic sound music to test it out with a premium account you get access to their whole library of over 400 fully animated graphic packs in any theme imaginable and if you decide to upgrade with my code tvn you can slice 50 of the price the longer you subscribe for the cheaper it gets and together with my code that's three months of having all these graphics for only five dollars per month the link will be on the screen and in my description so these scenes here is where you will make your different stream scenes so an example of this could be in game you just click on ok and then now we have two scenes on the left in-game and then a scene called scene which is a default one so you just right click it rename and then you could make this into a talking scene for example so basically these two scenes on the left here are folders that hold the sources that you see next to it and then in the sources you can click on the plus icon here and this is all the stuff that you can add to your stream so you have the video capture device which is your webcam you can add text on the screen then you can also add images which is going to be all your overlays and then here we see game capture and this is to add your game so when you click on it you can choose to rename it or you can leave it the same and click on ok and then by default this will just capture any full screen application however on stream it's always safe to change this to capture specific window and then change your window to your specific game and using specific window make sure that you never show something on stream that you don't want to we're going to do the same by the way for the window capture for example so i'll just show you when you choose window capture here you just click on ok and as you see it immediately attaches to my google chrome here so window capture is used to capture any window or any application on your pc i could also change this to adobe audition for example this is what i'm using to record my audio and the really great for privacy that i see no one explaining is when you want to show your internet browser on the stream i would always advise to use another browser than your default one so i'm using google chrome all the time however on stream i would use microsoft edge and the reason for this is what i just explained i can add a window capture now for microsoft edge i can reposition it and use it like this on the stream and then people will never see my google chrome window so as you can see i can rescale this and then it just captures exactly this window here if i close it it will just go black now i'm quickly gonna launch minecraft so i can show you game capture so the game is loaded now let me all tap out of it i'm gonna delete this window capture source here and then the game capture automatically link to minecraft because as you can see capture any full screen application i'm gonna change this to capture specific and then change the specific window to minecraft click on ok and now when i open minecraft it will lock to the game i'm going to alt tab out of it and if your game doesn't fit your window you can right click it then go to transform and then fit the screen and it doesn't fit because my monitor isn't ultra white so for the sake of this video let's just make it a bit bigger i would have to change a bunch of settings to make this fit so we're just going to do it like this now and now if i wanted to add my webcam for example i can just add a video capture device click on ok and i have my camera linked to the pc with a cam link so i could choose that click on ok and then here is my webcam i can just make it a bit smaller like this position it right here and then we could add a border to it but a few important things to know here is that when you hold alt on your keyboard you can cut off one of the sides so some people like a webcam that looks like this on stream and done on the side you could just do it by holding alt and then when you hold shift on your keyboard then you're actually changing the aspect ratio you can also press ctrl z or ctrl shift z to undo and redo let's move it to the side here make it a bit smaller and now if you would want to add a border to this you can click on the plus icon go to image call it webcam border click on ok then you can click on browse here and then this here is the neon pack from my discord that you can download and if you unzip it it will look like this it's a folder and then inside you have a bunch of stuff now we are doing the webcam so let's go to webcam borders then you have a border with your name it's a blank space you can add text or a border without name now i'm gonna choose width so then i can show you the text let's click on ok i'm also going to make my webcam wide now because then it will fit the border so the easiest way to do this is making your webcam bigger than selecting the border by the way if you look at the sources here these work like layers so now the webcam border is on top of my webcam if i drag it to the middle here you will see that it's hidden behind my webcam here so make sure these layers are positioned correctly and now we can just make this bigger and then try to fit it around the corners here now the last thing is to add our text to a plus icon text click on ok as the name i'll type the video nerd you can click select font here and then change a bunch of settings i'll just make it bold for now click on ok click on ok then you've got the text here now you can rescale it position it right here on the name field make it a bit smaller fit it like this and now when you're done with customizing it you can select the text here hold ctrl select the webcam border plus the webcam you right click it and you say group selected items and then you call it webcam group for example so now you can just select the folder here the webcam group and then you can rescale it reposition it and that way it will look perfect if your webcam doesn't look that good you can right click it go to filters and then on the left you can add effect filters you can just click on the plus icon choose color correction click on ok and now you've got a bunch of sliders that will change how it looks with the gamma and the brightness you can control how bright it is like this then with contrast you can either remove it and an important one the saturation if your image looks pretty dull like this you can move it to the right to add more saturation however if you add too much it will look like this which is very bad so let's set it at something like this here make my image a bit more bright click on close and then that will be my webcam now before we do the alerts it's really important to know that game capture will not always work so right now i used it to capture minecraft however if you're playing for example csgo that won't be able to be captured with game capture so in general there are three ways to capture your game you have the very obvious game capture now if that doesn't work for your game you can try window capture which is a second way and if that doesn't work as a last resort you can choose display capture and this will simply capture your whole screen so as you see you just select your display here you click on ok and then you've just got a capture of your whole screen here now this will always work this will not give you a black screen however it is very intensive for your pc to do this so if you have the possibility to choose game capture definitely do it if that doesn't work for example for cs go choose window capture that will capture a bunch of stuff and if those two don't work then you can choose display capture here and by the way this is also used to make simple screen recordings then the last important thing i need to mention you've got the images here we use it for the webcam border and sometimes people are pretty confused but this is just to add any graphics on your stream so in my neon pack for example under screens and an intermission screen and without socials i have a screen for your webcam your game and your chat you can also just open this with an image source so if you were using this you could just reposition everything you could put your game right here on the right you could on the bottom here disable the text disable the border and then just reposition your webcam like this to make it fit and then you could add your chat on the right which is something i will show in a bit so using everything i just showed you can just set up everything on your stream and then on the left you have your scenes and you can just switch between them by clicking here oh right if you have an animated overlay then instead of using images here you just add video sources with this here and the whole process is exactly the same now if you want to add your alerts to the stream or your labels like recent follower or as you can see here there's an area for the chat if you want to add stuff like that you will need to pull it from online and then import in obs because natively in obs you cannot add that kind of stuff because that's always linked to an account of you so when we add a new source here you will see browser source and this is used for exactly that and i click on the plus icon you will see that there's a url here there's a page preview and as an example i could add twitch.tv here and then it will just load twitch now this window here is not interactive you cannot click on things however it does show the webpage that you're adding right here in the settings so i'm gonna split my screen in two parts and let's go to stream elements so this is a service that we're gonna use to pull all those things like alerts labels your chat donation goal all that stuff on the home page you can click on login on the top right and then you just log in with your streaming service i'm gonna choose twitch for the tutorial because a lot of people stream on twitch and i'm gonna log in with a dummy account of me now once you're logged in on the left you will see streaming tools and i will see my overlays and this is what we need so you just click on new overlay on the top right then you choose your resolution i'm just going to take 1080p for now i think a lot of people are going to want to stream in this quality and then you just click on start so now we got a work area here on the right and that's the same thing as here on the left in obs studio so when i go to the talking scene the black box here is the same as this box on the right now what you do here in stream elements is just clicking on the plus icon and then just adding whatever you want and then we're gonna import this here in obs studio on the left as an example i'm gonna click on the plus icon go to alerts and then click on alert box and this is just a basic alert box that's already pre-configured with basic standard alerts and you can test them on the bottom by clicking on emulate for example follower event or subscriber one and then you see this is a basic alert so now since i logged in with my twitch account on stream elements here every time someone follows me on twitch the alert will trigger in the stream elements tool and since we added an alert box here it will actually show the alert once someone follows me however now we need to import this in obs studio and as i said the way you do this is with a browser source so now on the top right we can click on save you can give it a name let's call it tutorial 2022 and then now we can copy this overlay url here you just click on this icon as you see on the bottom right copy to clipboard and now in obs we just imported by clicking on the plus icon going to browser that's also called a tutorial 2022 that way it's easy to keep track of if the name on stream elements is the same as here in obs click on ok and then now we replace this url here with the one we copied let's just paste it and then we can also make the resolution match so if you remember we chose 1920 by 1080 we replaced the url here let's click on okay and then now it will fit the screen because it's 1080p but if i make it smaller this will make it very clear this box that we just imported is the same as here on the right so not this alert box in the middle but the whole screen so if i go to emulate now to follower event and i click on it you will see that the follower triggers here and then right here in this box we can right click it we can go to transform fit to screen and this way you can just add a bunch of stuff now if i move these alerts to the left here and then i save it on the top you will see that if i trigger a new follower event it will now trigger right here on the top left and you will see that if you click on the alerts there's a bunch of settings here on the left you can change a bunch of stuff for example you can click on set image here then you can upload an alert from my free graphics pack you will get it right here you can click on submit and then now the alert graphic will be replaced so if i go to follower now you will see there is the graphic with the text but it doesn't look good we need to make it fit the text is not on top of it there's a bunch of stuff that you can change in all these alert settings here now as i said there's just not enough time in this video or it would be more than an hour long if you want an in-depth explanation on all that stuff you can watch my skillshare course i already showed it in the intro all the in-depth stuff is in here and i want to be completely transparent even though it's free to watch for you i definitely earn with skillshare everyone knows that however the reason i did make a skillshare course is that it allowed me to make 11 or 12 complete lessons filled with in-depth information that's really important and really interesting i just have one class that people who are serious about streaming can go through and that will explain them everything so that being said the basic alerts are done you don't need to do anything else about this the alerts will work for everything you will have them for followers subscribers all that stuff however i can't go over the customization now now let's return to the split screen here and now you have an important choice to make so let's go back for a second here you will see an overview of all the overlays you made so we made tutorial 2022. this here contains our alerts now and what you could do is making a new overlay by the way you could change the aspect ratio for example 1080 high and then 500 white click on start then you will get something like this you could add your chat plus icon stream tools your streams chat you can make it fit now and then boom let's click on save call it chat click on save go back and then now we have our chat as an overlay that we can import in obs we have our alerts as a separate overlay and then you could for example here for the chat we could click on edit then copy the overlay url then in obs we could click on the plus icon browser source call it chat replace the url we made it 500 wide 1080 high click on ok and boom now you have an overlay from stream elements for your chat you can rescale this reposition it do what you want you have a separate one for your alerts and this is actually the way i prefer it however there is another way and that's that you can add everything in stream elements obviously not your webcam or your game but you could add an overlay then add your labels on top of that add your chat to it and that way you could build the whole overlay on stream elements and then import everything in obs so i can quickly show it we're gonna have to go pretty fast so if you would build your whole overlay on stream elements you could just make a new one here 1080p and then you could click on the plus icon go to static and then to image to add a new image you could click set image then upload the intermission screen from the pack on the top right you can click on upload and it appears here you click on submit the position here you can make it full screen we can center the widget and then now you have your overlay here and you can add a bunch of stuff to this so let's save it first let's call it intermission gonna copy the url here add the new browser source call it intermission now replace the url make it by 1080. by the way with these eyes here you can hide sources so now we have one source with this image here and then you can add everything right here so we can click plus alerts alert box boom position them over here then plus icon labels follower for example latest follower now this is a dummy account so there is no latest follower but you could position it right here and then your latest follower will appear here next to it you could do the same thing for subscriber count position it over there and then something very useful stream tools your chat position it here now to make it transparent you want to change the theme on the left to custom then you just want to make it fit like this click save and boom now you have everything on the left here you could even add the text here for twitter and youtube in stream elements and now if you click on emulate follower event you will see that it just appears right here however if you want to change the position of this alert here you cannot drag it because everything is one scene that we imported if you want to change that you would have to change it in stream elements here click on save and then now it will be repositioned as you can see it appears here now so i think i went over pretty much any scenario you could run in when setting up your graphics i show both ways of doing it i would prefer making separate overlays for everything that you want to add then importing them all in obs however you could build your whole overlay online this is extremely useful if you have different streaming pcs and you want to sync everything because you're just changing your layout in the cloud and it changes on the stream so let's go back to obs studio if you want to change between your in-game scene and your talking scene and you want one of these cool stinger transitions that close then transition and then open again doing it is very easy on the right you see scene transition you can just click on the drop down and then choose stinger click on ok and then now we need to upload a file now my free graphics pack does include a stinger transition in the main folder you see a folder stinger and then now you see a stinger transition file i'm just gonna play it so you can preview it as you can see it just closes and then opens again and then it just replace now the next folder is a neon stinger project and in here you can't see it right now i'll show you in the normal finder so in that folder in here we have a photoshop file to change the color of the stinger then an after effects file that you can use to re-render the stinger into a video file that you can use on your stream and then the third file is just a notepad with instructions on how to change the whole color so how to change it in photoshop how to export it in after effects and i think these instructions will be enough to be able to change the color if you want now if you really want to change the color but you need video instructions then i'm terribly sorry for mentioning skillshare again but there is a 15 minute lesson in the course where i go step by step over changing the color and then exporting it and actually don't know why i feel bad mentioning skillshare because it's free to watch you can go through my link get a month for free watch what you want cancel and you won't have paid anything now let's open the neon stinger here we imported our stinger transition here i'm gonna make this a bit bigger and now i can click on preview transition on the bottom and as you will see it immediately transitions to the b screen and so the transition happens before the stinger is completely closed so to do that we need to change the transition point if you make this for example 1000 this is 1000 milliseconds it is one second then it will transition after one second so if you click on preview transition you will see that it opens and it transitions too late so i think for this spec 800 was a sweet spot let's check click on preview transition and as you saw the transition was perfect we can click on ok now and then so now we are in the talking scene when i go to in-game the transition will close then the scene will switch and then it will open again and it's very smooth something extremely useful you can do is going to the settings here to hotkeys and then now we can the whole key to transitioning to a specific scene so now on the left here you can see talking you can also see in game and these are the same as the scenes on the left here talking and in game so here at in-game for example you see switch to scene and that means setting a hotkey to switch to this specific scene so i'll just press a hotkey then for the talking here switch to scene i press another one i click on ok and then now when i press this button on my keyboard it will switch to that scene so what we're left with now is the audio and then the stream settings for the audio there is three things you should keep in mind the first one and the most basic one is that in the settings you can go to audio and then here you could add your pc sound which is probably default or you could just select your headset so then everything you hear in your headset which is your normal pc sound will also go to the stream and then for example you could link your microphone you just click here and then for example for me mic in elgato wave and then you click on the plus icon you will see those devices showing up right here in the audio mixer that's the second thing so you add your audio in the settings and then it shows up in the mixer or you can do a bunch of stuff to it you can control the volume you can go to the advanced settings you can add filters but basically this is a slider for your pc sound or your game or your browser and then this is a slider for your microphone volume now these are the basics and that's pretty simple however there is one extra thing in the sources here on the left you will see that if i add a video capture device for example which is my webcam by the way this is also important if you want to add your webcam a second time instead of creating a new source which doesn't work you need to add an existing one because we already added a video capture device and then just add that one so now that's the same thing as in the endgame scene here we have the same webcam imported you can not import it through separate times so now that i imported my webcam here you will see that in the audio mixer we have an extra source from the video capture device my camera has a microphone in it it's recording my voice and it's also going through the hdmi to my pc and now here's the tricky thing i'm gonna go to my in-game scene here the audio mixer looks the same right here however if i choose to disable my webcam here you will see that the audio source of the webcam also disappears in the mixer and when i switch to the talking see now where the webcam is present you will see that it now appears again in the audio mixer and that's because all the normal sources so these right here where we had a bunch of stuff here every source that has audio linked to it will make it show up here in the mixer and then when you switch to a scene where the source isn't present anymore the audio part of it will also disappear in the mixer so in conclusion all the audio that you add right here in the settings will be visible present hearable in all scenes it's only the audio that appears in the mixer from adding a video source here all that audio will only be present in the audio mixer and as a result will be hearable on stream while you are in the specific scene that has that audio in the sources and that's why when i go to the talking where there's a webcam the webcam audio source appears again now when you add a microphone here to the stream i highly advise you to go to the filters and set up all of these filters it will make the audio that your viewers are hearing from your microphone way more enjoyable it will make sure that when you shout your audio volume isn't going through the roof and it will also make sure that when you thought quiet that your audio will be boosted so you will always be the same volume on stream you will not have background noise when you slam on your dust the audio also won't speak there's a bunch of stuff and you can all do that with these filters here and don't worry i'm not going to point you to my skillshare course this time i'm gonna point you to the cards because i have a separate video that explains all these filters step by step however it is also available in the skillshare course now the last thing for the mixer is the advanced audio properties let's quickly go over this if your viewers only hear your mic in the left ear or the right you can turn it mono right here then they will hear both if any source isn't in sync with something else for example your mic isn't in sync with your mouse you can add the sync offset right here and then fix it that way if you want to hear what your mic sounds like you can choose one of these two and you will hear it and then the tracks that's way doing that for now just make sure that track one is enabled for what you wanna hear on stream now the last thing is the stream settings which is the output tab and the video tab now setting up these advanced settings is way too in-depth for this tutorial however there's a very useful tool in obs which is the auto configuration wizard you can select optimize for streaming recording is secondary click next then you can choose your base resolution so 1080p 720p if you have a really weak pc or a really weak internet speed you might want to choose 720p instead of 1080 i'm gonna choose 1080 for now but you can change this and as your fps this is great 60 or 30 but prefer 60 click next then you need to connect your account here i'm gonna choose twitch and i'm gonna connect the account then you should definitely enable prefer hardware encoding and then estimate bitrate with a bandwidth test this will test your internet speed and then select a great bit rate for you so i'm gonna click on next now and then it will just be testing my internet speed check my pc parts and then suggest certain settings so then these are my suggested settings they are exactly what i would have chosen manually so this wizard definitely works you just click on apply settings so now my settings have been set up here which is the output settings as you can see the bitrate here the hardware and vienk and then in the video settings it changed to 1080p and then 60 fps now the last thing you should do before pressing start streaming on the bottom right is going to the stream tab and i'm making sure that you're logged in right here now for twitch going live is very easy however on facebook and youtube it's pretty complicated i have two separate videos on going live on facebook and youtube i will link them in the description those videos are perfect to watch after this one and you're ready to go live now i will link any extra useful videos in the description i will make a list of things you could set up right now for example making your mic better going live on facebook or youtube i'm sure i will find some other videos of me that would be useful so yeah linked in the description like this video if it helped you out subscribe if you want to see more and i'll see you in the next video have a nice dayhey since you're new to obs you probably want a free graphic spec i'll just start with that there's a free graphic spec on my discord the link to the discord is in the description on the left you will see free stuff neon overlay pack and then if you scroll to the bottom you can download it with this link here i want to say this first this video here is a basic version of my obs skillshare course that i just launched this video is great to get you started i made a bunch of them the previous years but i know many people like a very in-depth step-by-step explanation and that's really hard to do in youtube videos so if that's what you're looking for you can definitely check out this skillshare course here in total there are 11 in-depth lessons on a lot of stuff and this is just way more specific and in-depth than what this video is going to be which is normal because this is a youtube video i'm really excited about this course as i said i just launched it it's completely free to watch i worked on it for a long time in my description there will be a link that gives you 30 days for free so yeah you can check it out if you want now if you launch obs it can be very confusing right basically you have the usual settings bar on the top then you have your overlay and graphic settings and transition on the bottom and then next to that you can start streaming stop streaming and then go to your settings now for now there are only two things that are important right here on the top if you ever mess up your whole interface you can go to docs reset ui click ok and then it will completely reset everything and with resetting i mean the layout so as you can see you can grab any dock here and then just reposition it you can dock it somewhere else if you want and then resetting your ui just fixes that now the second important thing is the profile and the scene collection and these are basically presets for your ui and your settings so for example here under scene collection i can go to chroma 2 which is another collection and then i will have a whole graphics interface now these collections here also change some things in the settings here but it's pretty confusing which things in the settings are being changed by the scene collections and then which by the profiles so for that reason it's the easiest to just make a profile for example obs tutorial 2022 and then make a scene collection with the same name so that way for any purpose that you want to use obs for for example streaming recording low quality high quality you just make a profile and the scene collection then on the right you already saw me using it but you can access the settings here you have the general settings and the advanced which is the usual stuff then hot keys which is also pretty clear then you can also change your audio here and then the stream video and output tab or your stream settings i wanna focus on the graphics of your stream first so the scenes and the sources and then also adding a stinger transition which is part of my free overlay pack however before doing that i need to thank the sponsor of today's video which is owned pro owned pro is a free plugin for obs studio that will give your stream a professional look with a single click you can install one of the five fully animated and completely free overlay packs with a bunch of scenes already set up they also let you easily import your twitch alerts your stream's chat and your labels there's also a chatbot to set up with basic commands moderation timers and giveaways there's a countdown timer and there's 30 minutes of free epidemic sound music to test it out with a premium account you get access to their whole library of over 400 fully animated graphic packs in any theme imaginable and if you decide to upgrade with my code tvn you can slice 50 of the price the longer you subscribe for the cheaper it gets and together with my code that's three months of having all these graphics for only five dollars per month the link will be on the screen and in my description so these scenes here is where you will make your different stream scenes so an example of this could be in game you just click on ok and then now we have two scenes on the left in-game and then a scene called scene which is a default one so you just right click it rename and then you could make this into a talking scene for example so basically these two scenes on the left here are folders that hold the sources that you see next to it and then in the sources you can click on the plus icon here and this is all the stuff that you can add to your stream so you have the video capture device which is your webcam you can add text on the screen then you can also add images which is going to be all your overlays and then here we see game capture and this is to add your game so when you click on it you can choose to rename it or you can leave it the same and click on ok and then by default this will just capture any full screen application however on stream it's always safe to change this to capture specific window and then change your window to your specific game and using specific window make sure that you never show something on stream that you don't want to we're going to do the same by the way for the window capture for example so i'll just show you when you choose window capture here you just click on ok and as you see it immediately attaches to my google chrome here so window capture is used to capture any window or any application on your pc i could also change this to adobe audition for example this is what i'm using to record my audio and the really great for privacy that i see no one explaining is when you want to show your internet browser on the stream i would always advise to use another browser than your default one so i'm using google chrome all the time however on stream i would use microsoft edge and the reason for this is what i just explained i can add a window capture now for microsoft edge i can reposition it and use it like this on the stream and then people will never see my google chrome window so as you can see i can rescale this and then it just captures exactly this window here if i close it it will just go black now i'm quickly gonna launch minecraft so i can show you game capture so the game is loaded now let me all tap out of it i'm gonna delete this window capture source here and then the game capture automatically link to minecraft because as you can see capture any full screen application i'm gonna change this to capture specific and then change the specific window to minecraft click on ok and now when i open minecraft it will lock to the game i'm going to alt tab out of it and if your game doesn't fit your window you can right click it then go to transform and then fit the screen and it doesn't fit because my monitor isn't ultra white so for the sake of this video let's just make it a bit bigger i would have to change a bunch of settings to make this fit so we're just going to do it like this now and now if i wanted to add my webcam for example i can just add a video capture device click on ok and i have my camera linked to the pc with a cam link so i could choose that click on ok and then here is my webcam i can just make it a bit smaller like this position it right here and then we could add a border to it but a few important things to know here is that when you hold alt on your keyboard you can cut off one of the sides so some people like a webcam that looks like this on stream and done on the side you could just do it by holding alt and then when you hold shift on your keyboard then you're actually changing the aspect ratio you can also press ctrl z or ctrl shift z to undo and redo let's move it to the side here make it a bit smaller and now if you would want to add a border to this you can click on the plus icon go to image call it webcam border click on ok then you can click on browse here and then this here is the neon pack from my discord that you can download and if you unzip it it will look like this it's a folder and then inside you have a bunch of stuff now we are doing the webcam so let's go to webcam borders then you have a border with your name it's a blank space you can add text or a border without name now i'm gonna choose width so then i can show you the text let's click on ok i'm also going to make my webcam wide now because then it will fit the border so the easiest way to do this is making your webcam bigger than selecting the border by the way if you look at the sources here these work like layers so now the webcam border is on top of my webcam if i drag it to the middle here you will see that it's hidden behind my webcam here so make sure these layers are positioned correctly and now we can just make this bigger and then try to fit it around the corners here now the last thing is to add our text to a plus icon text click on ok as the name i'll type the video nerd you can click select font here and then change a bunch of settings i'll just make it bold for now click on ok click on ok then you've got the text here now you can rescale it position it right here on the name field make it a bit smaller fit it like this and now when you're done with customizing it you can select the text here hold ctrl select the webcam border plus the webcam you right click it and you say group selected items and then you call it webcam group for example so now you can just select the folder here the webcam group and then you can rescale it reposition it and that way it will look perfect if your webcam doesn't look that good you can right click it go to filters and then on the left you can add effect filters you can just click on the plus icon choose color correction click on ok and now you've got a bunch of sliders that will change how it looks with the gamma and the brightness you can control how bright it is like this then with contrast you can either remove it and an important one the saturation if your image looks pretty dull like this you can move it to the right to add more saturation however if you add too much it will look like this which is very bad so let's set it at something like this here make my image a bit more bright click on close and then that will be my webcam now before we do the alerts it's really important to know that game capture will not always work so right now i used it to capture minecraft however if you're playing for example csgo that won't be able to be captured with game capture so in general there are three ways to capture your game you have the very obvious game capture now if that doesn't work for your game you can try window capture which is a second way and if that doesn't work as a last resort you can choose display capture and this will simply capture your whole screen so as you see you just select your display here you click on ok and then you've just got a capture of your whole screen here now this will always work this will not give you a black screen however it is very intensive for your pc to do this so if you have the possibility to choose game capture definitely do it if that doesn't work for example for cs go choose window capture that will capture a bunch of stuff and if those two don't work then you can choose display capture here and by the way this is also used to make simple screen recordings then the last important thing i need to mention you've got the images here we use it for the webcam border and sometimes people are pretty confused but this is just to add any graphics on your stream so in my neon pack for example under screens and an intermission screen and without socials i have a screen for your webcam your game and your chat you can also just open this with an image source so if you were using this you could just reposition everything you could put your game right here on the right you could on the bottom here disable the text disable the border and then just reposition your webcam like this to make it fit and then you could add your chat on the right which is something i will show in a bit so using everything i just showed you can just set up everything on your stream and then on the left you have your scenes and you can just switch between them by clicking here oh right if you have an animated overlay then instead of using images here you just add video sources with this here and the whole process is exactly the same now if you want to add your alerts to the stream or your labels like recent follower or as you can see here there's an area for the chat if you want to add stuff like that you will need to pull it from online and then import in obs because natively in obs you cannot add that kind of stuff because that's always linked to an account of you so when we add a new source here you will see browser source and this is used for exactly that and i click on the plus icon you will see that there's a url here there's a page preview and as an example i could add twitch.tv here and then it will just load twitch now this window here is not interactive you cannot click on things however it does show the webpage that you're adding right here in the settings so i'm gonna split my screen in two parts and let's go to stream elements so this is a service that we're gonna use to pull all those things like alerts labels your chat donation goal all that stuff on the home page you can click on login on the top right and then you just log in with your streaming service i'm gonna choose twitch for the tutorial because a lot of people stream on twitch and i'm gonna log in with a dummy account of me now once you're logged in on the left you will see streaming tools and i will see my overlays and this is what we need so you just click on new overlay on the top right then you choose your resolution i'm just going to take 1080p for now i think a lot of people are going to want to stream in this quality and then you just click on start so now we got a work area here on the right and that's the same thing as here on the left in obs studio so when i go to the talking scene the black box here is the same as this box on the right now what you do here in stream elements is just clicking on the plus icon and then just adding whatever you want and then we're gonna import this here in obs studio on the left as an example i'm gonna click on the plus icon go to alerts and then click on alert box and this is just a basic alert box that's already pre-configured with basic standard alerts and you can test them on the bottom by clicking on emulate for example follower event or subscriber one and then you see this is a basic alert so now since i logged in with my twitch account on stream elements here every time someone follows me on twitch the alert will trigger in the stream elements tool and since we added an alert box here it will actually show the alert once someone follows me however now we need to import this in obs studio and as i said the way you do this is with a browser source so now on the top right we can click on save you can give it a name let's call it tutorial 2022 and then now we can copy this overlay url here you just click on this icon as you see on the bottom right copy to clipboard and now in obs we just imported by clicking on the plus icon going to browser that's also called a tutorial 2022 that way it's easy to keep track of if the name on stream elements is the same as here in obs click on ok and then now we replace this url here with the one we copied let's just paste it and then we can also make the resolution match so if you remember we chose 1920 by 1080 we replaced the url here let's click on okay and then now it will fit the screen because it's 1080p but if i make it smaller this will make it very clear this box that we just imported is the same as here on the right so not this alert box in the middle but the whole screen so if i go to emulate now to follower event and i click on it you will see that the follower triggers here and then right here in this box we can right click it we can go to transform fit to screen and this way you can just add a bunch of stuff now if i move these alerts to the left here and then i save it on the top you will see that if i trigger a new follower event it will now trigger right here on the top left and you will see that if you click on the alerts there's a bunch of settings here on the left you can change a bunch of stuff for example you can click on set image here then you can upload an alert from my free graphics pack you will get it right here you can click on submit and then now the alert graphic will be replaced so if i go to follower now you will see there is the graphic with the text but it doesn't look good we need to make it fit the text is not on top of it there's a bunch of stuff that you can change in all these alert settings here now as i said there's just not enough time in this video or it would be more than an hour long if you want an in-depth explanation on all that stuff you can watch my skillshare course i already showed it in the intro all the in-depth stuff is in here and i want to be completely transparent even though it's free to watch for you i definitely earn with skillshare everyone knows that however the reason i did make a skillshare course is that it allowed me to make 11 or 12 complete lessons filled with in-depth information that's really important and really interesting i just have one class that people who are serious about streaming can go through and that will explain them everything so that being said the basic alerts are done you don't need to do anything else about this the alerts will work for everything you will have them for followers subscribers all that stuff however i can't go over the customization now now let's return to the split screen here and now you have an important choice to make so let's go back for a second here you will see an overview of all the overlays you made so we made tutorial 2022. this here contains our alerts now and what you could do is making a new overlay by the way you could change the aspect ratio for example 1080 high and then 500 white click on start then you will get something like this you could add your chat plus icon stream tools your streams chat you can make it fit now and then boom let's click on save call it chat click on save go back and then now we have our chat as an overlay that we can import in obs we have our alerts as a separate overlay and then you could for example here for the chat we could click on edit then copy the overlay url then in obs we could click on the plus icon browser source call it chat replace the url we made it 500 wide 1080 high click on ok and boom now you have an overlay from stream elements for your chat you can rescale this reposition it do what you want you have a separate one for your alerts and this is actually the way i prefer it however there is another way and that's that you can add everything in stream elements obviously not your webcam or your game but you could add an overlay then add your labels on top of that add your chat to it and that way you could build the whole overlay on stream elements and then import everything in obs so i can quickly show it we're gonna have to go pretty fast so if you would build your whole overlay on stream elements you could just make a new one here 1080p and then you could click on the plus icon go to static and then to image to add a new image you could click set image then upload the intermission screen from the pack on the top right you can click on upload and it appears here you click on submit the position here you can make it full screen we can center the widget and then now you have your overlay here and you can add a bunch of stuff to this so let's save it first let's call it intermission gonna copy the url here add the new browser source call it intermission now replace the url make it by 1080. by the way with these eyes here you can hide sources so now we have one source with this image here and then you can add everything right here so we can click plus alerts alert box boom position them over here then plus icon labels follower for example latest follower now this is a dummy account so there is no latest follower but you could position it right here and then your latest follower will appear here next to it you could do the same thing for subscriber count position it over there and then something very useful stream tools your chat position it here now to make it transparent you want to change the theme on the left to custom then you just want to make it fit like this click save and boom now you have everything on the left here you could even add the text here for twitter and youtube in stream elements and now if you click on emulate follower event you will see that it just appears right here however if you want to change the position of this alert here you cannot drag it because everything is one scene that we imported if you want to change that you would have to change it in stream elements here click on save and then now it will be repositioned as you can see it appears here now so i think i went over pretty much any scenario you could run in when setting up your graphics i show both ways of doing it i would prefer making separate overlays for everything that you want to add then importing them all in obs however you could build your whole overlay online this is extremely useful if you have different streaming pcs and you want to sync everything because you're just changing your layout in the cloud and it changes on the stream so let's go back to obs studio if you want to change between your in-game scene and your talking scene and you want one of these cool stinger transitions that close then transition and then open again doing it is very easy on the right you see scene transition you can just click on the drop down and then choose stinger click on ok and then now we need to upload a file now my free graphics pack does include a stinger transition in the main folder you see a folder stinger and then now you see a stinger transition file i'm just gonna play it so you can preview it as you can see it just closes and then opens again and then it just replace now the next folder is a neon stinger project and in here you can't see it right now i'll show you in the normal finder so in that folder in here we have a photoshop file to change the color of the stinger then an after effects file that you can use to re-render the stinger into a video file that you can use on your stream and then the third file is just a notepad with instructions on how to change the whole color so how to change it in photoshop how to export it in after effects and i think these instructions will be enough to be able to change the color if you want now if you really want to change the color but you need video instructions then i'm terribly sorry for mentioning skillshare again but there is a 15 minute lesson in the course where i go step by step over changing the color and then exporting it and actually don't know why i feel bad mentioning skillshare because it's free to watch you can go through my link get a month for free watch what you want cancel and you won't have paid anything now let's open the neon stinger here we imported our stinger transition here i'm gonna make this a bit bigger and now i can click on preview transition on the bottom and as you will see it immediately transitions to the b screen and so the transition happens before the stinger is completely closed so to do that we need to change the transition point if you make this for example 1000 this is 1000 milliseconds it is one second then it will transition after one second so if you click on preview transition you will see that it opens and it transitions too late so i think for this spec 800 was a sweet spot let's check click on preview transition and as you saw the transition was perfect we can click on ok now and then so now we are in the talking scene when i go to in-game the transition will close then the scene will switch and then it will open again and it's very smooth something extremely useful you can do is going to the settings here to hotkeys and then now we can the whole key to transitioning to a specific scene so now on the left here you can see talking you can also see in game and these are the same as the scenes on the left here talking and in game so here at in-game for example you see switch to scene and that means setting a hotkey to switch to this specific scene so i'll just press a hotkey then for the talking here switch to scene i press another one i click on ok and then now when i press this button on my keyboard it will switch to that scene so what we're left with now is the audio and then the stream settings for the audio there is three things you should keep in mind the first one and the most basic one is that in the settings you can go to audio and then here you could add your pc sound which is probably default or you could just select your headset so then everything you hear in your headset which is your normal pc sound will also go to the stream and then for example you could link your microphone you just click here and then for example for me mic in elgato wave and then you click on the plus icon you will see those devices showing up right here in the audio mixer that's the second thing so you add your audio in the settings and then it shows up in the mixer or you can do a bunch of stuff to it you can control the volume you can go to the advanced settings you can add filters but basically this is a slider for your pc sound or your game or your browser and then this is a slider for your microphone volume now these are the basics and that's pretty simple however there is one extra thing in the sources here on the left you will see that if i add a video capture device for example which is my webcam by the way this is also important if you want to add your webcam a second time instead of creating a new source which doesn't work you need to add an existing one because we already added a video capture device and then just add that one so now that's the same thing as in the endgame scene here we have the same webcam imported you can not import it through separate times so now that i imported my webcam here you will see that in the audio mixer we have an extra source from the video capture device my camera has a microphone in it it's recording my voice and it's also going through the hdmi to my pc and now here's the tricky thing i'm gonna go to my in-game scene here the audio mixer looks the same right here however if i choose to disable my webcam here you will see that the audio source of the webcam also disappears in the mixer and when i switch to the talking see now where the webcam is present you will see that it now appears again in the audio mixer and that's because all the normal sources so these right here where we had a bunch of stuff here every source that has audio linked to it will make it show up here in the mixer and then when you switch to a scene where the source isn't present anymore the audio part of it will also disappear in the mixer so in conclusion all the audio that you add right here in the settings will be visible present hearable in all scenes it's only the audio that appears in the mixer from adding a video source here all that audio will only be present in the audio mixer and as a result will be hearable on stream while you are in the specific scene that has that audio in the sources and that's why when i go to the talking where there's a webcam the webcam audio source appears again now when you add a microphone here to the stream i highly advise you to go to the filters and set up all of these filters it will make the audio that your viewers are hearing from your microphone way more enjoyable it will make sure that when you shout your audio volume isn't going through the roof and it will also make sure that when you thought quiet that your audio will be boosted so you will always be the same volume on stream you will not have background noise when you slam on your dust the audio also won't speak there's a bunch of stuff and you can all do that with these filters here and don't worry i'm not going to point you to my skillshare course this time i'm gonna point you to the cards because i have a separate video that explains all these filters step by step however it is also available in the skillshare course now the last thing for the mixer is the advanced audio properties let's quickly go over this if your viewers only hear your mic in the left ear or the right you can turn it mono right here then they will hear both if any source isn't in sync with something else for example your mic isn't in sync with your mouse you can add the sync offset right here and then fix it that way if you want to hear what your mic sounds like you can choose one of these two and you will hear it and then the tracks that's way doing that for now just make sure that track one is enabled for what you wanna hear on stream now the last thing is the stream settings which is the output tab and the video tab now setting up these advanced settings is way too in-depth for this tutorial however there's a very useful tool in obs which is the auto configuration wizard you can select optimize for streaming recording is secondary click next then you can choose your base resolution so 1080p 720p if you have a really weak pc or a really weak internet speed you might want to choose 720p instead of 1080 i'm gonna choose 1080 for now but you can change this and as your fps this is great 60 or 30 but prefer 60 click next then you need to connect your account here i'm gonna choose twitch and i'm gonna connect the account then you should definitely enable prefer hardware encoding and then estimate bitrate with a bandwidth test this will test your internet speed and then select a great bit rate for you so i'm gonna click on next now and then it will just be testing my internet speed check my pc parts and then suggest certain settings so then these are my suggested settings they are exactly what i would have chosen manually so this wizard definitely works you just click on apply settings so now my settings have been set up here which is the output settings as you can see the bitrate here the hardware and vienk and then in the video settings it changed to 1080p and then 60 fps now the last thing you should do before pressing start streaming on the bottom right is going to the stream tab and i'm making sure that you're logged in right here now for twitch going live is very easy however on facebook and youtube it's pretty complicated i have two separate videos on going live on facebook and youtube i will link them in the description those videos are perfect to watch after this one and you're ready to go live now i will link any extra useful videos in the description i will make a list of things you could set up right now for example making your mic better going live on facebook or youtube i'm sure i will find some other videos of me that would be useful so yeah linked in the description like this video if it helped you out subscribe if you want to see more and i'll see you in the next video have a nice day
