Skoda Superb iV Estate Team Test _ Fifth Gear

First Look and First Drive: The Skoda Superb IV Estate

It's time to get a first look and first drive of the brand new Skoda Superb IV Estate, and we're excited to share our experience with you. The team tested the top-of-the-line version, which starts at £38,000. You get almost 40 miles on electric power only, followed by a 1.4-liter petrol turbo that kicks in. We think this is great value for money.

The Skoda Superb has been called a poster car, but it's not even an SUV – it's quite untrendy and practical, loved by families for its space and functionality. But will it still appeal with plug-in hybrid power? Is it the pinnacle of value or just a bit of a yawn?

We've got to give credit where credit is due – the Skoda Superb has been superb over the last few years. The company must be brave to call their car "superb" and live up to it. We're not saying it's not nice-looking, but we think it's an age thing. We like a sporty car now that I've gone 10 years old.

Let's take a closer look at the car itself. The badge on the side looks like a bird has had an accident – isn't that squiggly signature just nasty? It doesn't feel right for a car, and it should be on some sort of violin or oboe instead. This represents the two people who started the car and motorcycle company before Skoda took over.

The Skoda Superb is a stylish bit of kit, but we're not sure what we think about that. We just know we like our cars to be sporty now, and this one doesn't quite fit that bill. But it does have plenty of space for bikes and kids' stuff – which is perfect for families.

We took the Skoda Superb on a test drive, and the back seat legroom was absolutely incredible. It's like a limo in here! We could almost lie down comfortably with our heads against the headrests. The package inside the car started to look way more impressive than what we expected from its exterior.

Now, about the price – we got the top-of-the-line version, which cost £8,000 more than the entry-level option and came with standard film. We're not sure if it was worth the extra cash, but we did like the steering and had nice feedback while driving. The car felt connected to us, and we liked its good grip on the road.

Overall, we think the Skoda Superb IV Estate is one of the best value-for-money Estates out there. We're going to give it a score of 8 out of 10 – absolutely loved by us! The styling just didn't quite fit our taste, but everything else was superb. This gives the Skoda Superb an excellent score of 31 out of 40.
