Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2018 SUV in-depth review _ carwow Reviews
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the mitsubishi outlander ph TV that is not often that people give you money for free but the government will actually give you 2,500 pounds towards his car because it's a plug-in hybrid that's that's just ten pounds I'm two thousand four hundred and ninety pounds short anyway that means that this car starts from 32,000 pounds now if you click up they get a car waco UK along with two million other people there you can build your ideal car and within twenty four hours five top dealers will come back to you with great offers on the car and you can compare prices without having to haggle now if you buy the diesel version of this car it actually starts from twenty five thousand pounds they like to like when you compare the specification to match them of their diesel is about five thousand pound less expensive than this hybrid now here on the inside the Outlander it's all right so this is one of the highest specification car so it's got quite a few extra bits and pieces on it such as the leather seats the entry-level car actually gets satellite navigation you get rid of parking sensors you get other words you get plumb control so it's fairly decent you do have a smaller infotainment screen this one has the upgraded Alpine system just turn it on come on moves up it's not the fastest but then it's not the slowest either now this system itself it does just feel a little bit aftermarket the stereo is good with the L point speakers but yeah using the sat-nav it ain't great actually if you click up there you see my full in-depth video review of this particular infotainment system terms of the rest of the interior I don't mind it the design it's alright and the materials the ones higher up in the car they're fine to the touch low down it does feel a bit cheap in places but I don't need to awful in terms of compensate is well look at this there's room for a big bottle under there it's good to do that the door bins are big as well and the glovebox that a decent size yeah so Ryan here and actually look at this particular car it has a Epic's fittings in the front passenger seat so if you wanted to you could put a child seat here now really into the back of course you have isofix fittings there as well this car does like to make lots of beeping sensor I must say there we go again yes I open the door thanks for reminding me I didn't know because the door was open I think when cause do that so here in the back so if I sit up straight there's decent room leg groans Gordon can slide your feet under the seat in front in terms of kind three well in this pH TV you have a fairly flat floor underneath it are the batteries but still that means there's only room for everyone's feet if you need to carry three abreast and here in the middle it's actually alright you know the only thing to watch out for is this the roof line there look if I move forward in my head put to this Ridge here and another thing I've just noticed in this they almost doesn't seem to fit inside there so it's not the comfiest on your back of him sitting in this middle seat you can also recline these feet a little bit there we go to make the boot bigger or make it a bit more comfortable to just sit back and relax here in the rear of the car so you can the boot let's move on to it so the first thing I want to show you is just how slow the electric tailgate is so I can walk around the outside of the entire car in the length of time it takes to the boot to fully open I mean look at how it's just absolutely ridiculous well it's also a bit ridiculous is a boot capacity itself so on SPH TV verse of the Outlander it is actually reduced in size over the diesel version that's because you've got an electric motor underneath the boot floor to drive the rear wheels as well as an electric motor mated to the the engine at the front which drives the front wheels it was always this lock you can't this much under the load cover saving grace is there look there's snow load look to lift stuff over actually did you see that look hopefully that load coverage it's ridiculous there there are some storage areas down the side here down the side here and under here there's a place where you can store your charging cable if this is the diesel car though you'll be able to get a third row of chairs which you can flip out and then turn this car into a seven-seater but not on the P HEV because like I said your motor it's under there now feeds carry lots of stuff you can fold down the rear seats thing is on this car you have to flip out the seat base first and then you can do it I'm gonna have to go over it it's not perfect there we go so once you've done that as you will be able to see now you do have a fairly flat load floor and the overall capacity then is pretty decent now if you click up there you can see just how much stuff you can cram into this cards booth how is it is to fit a child seat and just what it's like with three people in the back seats that's all the practical stuff dealt with now it's time to see what the Mitsubishi P ATV is like to drive this petrol electric hybrid version of the Outlander is really good to drive in time so impressive button down here lock it in evie mode and then you can do about 20 miles on a single charge and so if you can charge the car work or at home you can basically do your commute for very little money hassle and it's nice driving electric only mode because it's silent when you put your foot down the motors respond really quickly so you can daunt about through gaps in traffic and the suspension it's reasonably comfortable but it's pretty scissor pie and all-round visibility is good so you can see what you're doing maybe click a bacon see for yourself by joining me for 360 degree passenger ride video surprisingly this car can actually do just over 70 miles an hour on electric power alone though if you do that you're going to soon drain the battery and anyways you put your foot down what happens is the petrol motor kicks in it's not seeing noisy when it does that but if you're going high-speed and you've left a long time between charges you're going to be running this con petrol power load and then it's just not that economical now Mitsubishi claims this thing or the combined 156 miles per gallon but I'm actually averaging 69 miles per gallon and that number can soon drop the more mods you do and the less charging you do in fact if you're mainly on the motorway and don't have much time to charge a car bed yeah you're better off with the diesel the problem with the diesel is that it's rather than noise in a little bit rough and either way regardless of which outline do you go for they just think I have a bit more road noise and wind noises and like a Skoda Kodiak all versions of the Outlander come with four-wheel drive however if you want to do some serious offroading you're better off gain from the diesel than this hybrid where this car is weakest is definitely on a twisty road so this hybrid version is really quite heavy it feels quite ponderous in the corners but then so tuned as the diesel so I mean it's not like dangerous or anything it does grip the road as well as most people need it to but most normal costing like a hybrid version of the rav4 princess does just feel sharper to drive now then it's time for the car why five annoying things about the Mitsubishi Outlander P HEV some parts of the interior too really flimsy for instance this part broke by putting a bit of weight onto it while getting out the car I don't do that it was in the body on this thing is so bloomin heavy that really it should be sitting with gas struts to help you out and you definitely don't want to get your fingers caught in here ah it really bugs me how this armrest snags on the side bolsters of the seats that's kind of a lack of attention to detail if you ask me even though this particular car is pretty expensive there's still loads of blanked out switches for apparently mixing options also the layer of this bit is all haphazard and the key hold up can actually hold the key properly to all a bit to school project to definitely the only similarly if you can get with the Outlander is like those fitted to cars from the 1980s so you have to operate this line to manually and the actual opening itself is rather small thankfully it's not all bad here's 5 cool things about the P HEV you can get a mobile phone app for the CATV so you can want to the charging remotely you can also set the climate control so it's at the perfect temperature for when you get in it you can press that bin to charge the batteries using the petrol motor as a generator that button to maintain a certain level of charge that button for four wheel drive lock and then that button to run off-road in electric mode alone see that both of the badges I'm so thankful that you can actually turn off the electrical operation of the tailgate and because then like with other cars the mechanism isn't in the strut it's a separate one here it actually feels no heavier to use then and if it didn't have the auto tailgate you can charge these cards batteries to 80% full using a rapid charger in 25 minutes start buying one of those just use this one to fully charge the batteries using a three pin socket in five hours and what's all this warning in proper use of this charger can result in a fire property damage and serious injury or death how keep you safe if you're not wearing your seatbelt then the electronic parking brake won't automatically disengage oh yeah if the pH Ibiza rockin don't come a-knockin now if you click up there you can add a car loco dot uk' for more information on this call any car for that matter and to compare offers across a range of cars so my verdict on the Mitsubishi Outlander so do you avoid it really consider it should you short list it what should just go right ahead and buy it well if it was a diesel and I'd say avoid it right there's loads of our SUVs out there this P HEV though I reckon you should consider it because there's no other plug-in hybrid SUV at this price point if you enjoyed this video please like it share it and comment on it and if you click up there on our logo you can subscribe to our channel for more videos like this let's watch my 360 degree passenger ID video on this car down there to watch my detailed practicality video review of it and down there for my detailed entertainment and interior review now it's like the Easter Egg in this video well it was a picture of the Evo 6 with Tommi mäkinen in the cards glove boxthis is the mitsubishi outlander ph TV that is not often that people give you money for free but the government will actually give
