**How to Load a Custom Rom on Your Motorola Droid**

Before you begin, it's essential to have completed our "How to Root the Motorola Droid" procedure. If you haven't done it yet, click on the link provided and follow the steps to complete the root process.

Additionally, please be aware that this procedure will erase all of your data, including contacts, apps, and settings. You may also need to reactivate your Gmail account or download new apps to log in and access certain features. To ensure a smooth transition, make sure to sync all your contacts with Google before proceeding.

**Step 1: Flashing a Custom Recovery Image**

To begin the process of loading a custom rom on your Motorola Droid, we need to flash a custom recovery image. For this, we'll use an app from the market. Open your market and search for "Rom Manager" (the first result should be "Clockwork Mod"). Tap on the app and click "Install" to download it.

Once installed, tap on the app to open it, and then click "OK" to proceed. The first option you'll see is to flash the Clockwork Mod recovery. Click on that option and confirm your model as Motorola Droid CDMA. Wait for the process to complete, and once it's done, you should see an "SU Request" notification. Check the box and allow the permissions, and then click "OK" to continue.

**Step 2: Downloading and Installing the Rom**

Now that we have the custom recovery image flashed, we need to download a rom for our Motorola Droid. To do this, go to the Motorola Rom Section in the developers page and scroll down to see all the available roms. Select the first rom you see (ESE 81 version 11) and click on the "Download" link.

Once the download is complete, grab the zip file and copy it to the root of your sd card (not inside any folders). This will ensure that the rom is installed correctly.

**Step 3: Flashing the Rom**

Now that we have our rom downloaded and copied to the sd card, we can start flashing it. Plug in your phone using a USB cable, turn off the device, and then turn it back on by sliding out the keyboard. Hold down the "X" button and power button at the same time until you see the new recovery screen.

On this menu, use the d-pad to navigate and scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset". Scroll down to "Yes", delete all user data, and wait for it to finish wiping. Next, scroll down to "Wipe Cache Partition" and wait for that to complete as well.

Now, scroll down to "Apply sdcardupdate.zip" and confirm the action. Finally, scroll down to "Install zip from sd card" and choose the rom you want to flash (the ESE 81 version 11) from the list of available files. Go all the way down and wait for the process to complete.

Once it's done flashing, click "Install from sdcard Complete" and then push the power button to return to the main menu. Finally, push the reboot system button to restart your device and see that you're now on your new custom rom.

**Tips and Reminders**

If you ever want to load another rom, simply redo our steps in section 3 and put a new rom on the sd card. Make sure to wipe data before doing so, and you should be all set.
