PlayStation TV - $99 PlayStation!

Hey guys, this is Austin and I'm staying here at E3 2014 with Unbox Therapy, and we just tried out the PlayStation TV. So, what is a PlayStation TV? It's a little box that's going to fit under your television, sort of like an Apple TV, but it's actually even smaller.

The killer functionality of this thing is that it's going to be able to play PlayStation Vita games or stream PlayStation 4 games on your local network. We tried out Driveclub as a beta, so we could go easy on it and see how it works, and also because it's a super crowded space, who knows what's happening with the networking? Yeah, I noticed that I was a little bit laggy; it wasn't bad, though - I could still play it totally. It did dip below 30 frames tag, and every once in a while, I didn't notice it was a little choppy, but it's an alpha game running on a beta.

And you know what? You can't give it up the Vita - they just released a new Slim MM version that's $200, which is still cheaper than the original Vita. Now, if you want to get a PlayStation TV with the Vita bundle, I think it's going to be around $140. And guess what? You get a PlayStation 3 controller with it, and it works with PS3 and PS4 too - I think it'll work better on PS4 because you can use the touchpad like you would on Vita.

One thing, though - there's no internal storage, and not that much storage at all. I mean, I think the Vita MM has about a gig of storage, but you're going to have to spring for those PS Vita memory cards, which are kind of expensive and kind of lame. Oh, and I did see a USB port on the PlayStation TV - maybe they'll let you hook up an external hard drive? Yeah, probably not, though - they just want to charge controllers and stuff.

But seriously, this thing is something that's going to change the living room space for casual gamers - we all think it's going to expand in a big way. Apps took over our pockets and smartphones, and everybody's been wondering what Apple's gonna do about developing TV space. Right now, Apple TV is pretty straightforward - just a few things, but with an app store, I think it could do a lot more.

And you know what? Here we have a really mature gaming ecosystem with Vita titles and streaming functionality from other consoles. We've got traditional TV-type multimedia applications too, at gaming, so maybe this is the killer package. So, what do you guys think about PlayStation TV? Would you pick one up? Let us know in the comments below - definitely subscribe both here as well as over on Lu's channel, and check out the links in the description.

for the Vita I'm sorry the PlayStation TV you get a PlayStation 3 controller and it does work with ps3 and ps4 so if you have any of those controllers it'll work I actually I think it'll be better on ps4 since you actually can use the the touchpad just like you would be able to use the touchscreen on the Vita one thing though no internal storage not that much though I think the Vita mm has like a gig of storage that you can't really use like for anything more than save games so your are going to have to go and spring for those PS Vita memory cards which are kind of expensive and they're kind of lame I did see a USB port on the PlayStation TV though so maybe they let you hook up an external hard drive you're probably right though they'll just be for like charging the controllers and stuff but I mean $400 this is something that especially if they get all the media stuff like the YouTube and the Netflix and Hulu and a lot kind of stuff you look at something that's the same price as an Apple TV same prices like you know typical you know kind of streaming boxes and it actually can play real games not like oh it plays like a and a game from 2009 like it plays legit like they had minecraft they had obviously like ps4 stuff I think it'll be pretty cool now the release dates fall so we'll see exactly like when it comes out but I'm pretty pumped yeah I completely agree I think that the living room space for sort of casual gamers that's something that's we all think is going to expand in a big way apps took over our pockets you know and our smartphones etc and everybody has
