iOS 13 Makes AirPods Better Than Ever
Hey friends, it's Andrew here from Apple Insider, and I don't know if you know this already but we love our AirPods. We talk about them all the time and have done a bunch of different videos on them including this one. With iOS 13, there's a lot of ways that AirPods get even better, whether you got the new ones or one of the old models.
So let's go through everything that's new with AirPods and how much better they are with iOS 13. First off, there are new glyphs throughout the OS updated for the new version of AirPods and it brings many new places such as the volume sliders. So whether in Control Center or rocking it down the side, you can actually see that you're connected to headphones and it shows that little glyph to let you know which one you're adjusting - it's your phone or your external headphones like AirPods.
Now if you have a Health app, you can monitor the headphone audio levels. So if you listen to your headphones a lot and you're wondering if you're listening to your music too loud, the Health app can now let you know. It's a great way to keep an eye on your hearing health. Goes along with the trend we've seen this year from Apple - they even had the new Noise app over on Apple Watch that allows you to monitor your audio levels around you and keep track of the environments that you're in.
So your Apple Watch can keep track of the environment you're in, and then the Health app can keep track of the audio levels for headphones you attach like AirPods. One of my favorite new features is announcing messages with Siri. This was missing from the initial iOS 13 release which is where we held off on this video for a little while but now that it's here in our next feature we want to talk about it.
Announcing messages into Siri works really well. Take your AirPods and put them in your ears even if you're not listening to anything but you have your AirPods in, whatever message will come in, Siri will read it to you. It's really handy. So if you're walking around, or being busy in your office while walking down the street, you don't have to pull out your iPhone; you don't have to text on your Apple Watch, Siri will read those messages to you.
It starts off with just "Zack says" or whoever is messaging you and then it will read the message, and immediately you can just ignore it, and things go back to normal. Or you can say reply, and give back your message dictated. It'll even go ahead and send without having to confirm it with you if you'd like it's extremely easy. And if they send another message in a series of messages than the first one so you will just continue the conversation also from Zack and then read more information of what they said.
It is very useful for people who are productivity monitors at the gym or smaller, just not opportune to be able to put your phone, or try to type on your Apple Watch. The feature we are most excited about and likely you guys do is audio sharing finally you can share audio wirelessly with another person. It works extremely easily, apples have done a great job implementing it.
It'll work with any of the known Apple headphones or their Beats EarPods Pro Powerbeats Pro Beats Solo Pro the second-generation AirPods, any of those will work with this feature but basically you connect your AirPods or your Beats whatever to your phone and then you have someone else bring theirs near go into Control Center and your AirPlay menu hit share audio. Then it'll just pop up they don't see their devices near and it'll temporarily allow you to share audio with that person.
So whether you're watching movies, listening to music, or playing a game, you can now do it with someone else, and not be sequestered to your own headphones so those are all the ways that AirPods are getting even more powerful with iOS 13. I was excited about all these recent iOS updates. It's been amazing how AirPops are just getting better as Apple continues to update their operating systems.
I'd love to hear what you guys think, what is your favorite new feature and other features do you want to see that Apple hasn't done yet? Let me know on Twitter at Andrew underscore OSU.
