How to Cook the Best Green Beans Ever _ The Stay At Home Chef

Today on The Stay at Home Chef, I'm showing you how to make the best green beans ever. Whenever I make these for guests, they always say the same thing: "Oh my gosh, how did you make these? These are the best green beans ever." And that's exactly what I want to share with you today - all of my secrets for making the most delicious, restaurant-quality green beans at home.

To start, you'll need about 1.5 to 2 pounds of fresh green beans. Rinse them off thoroughly, and then snap off each end. You can use either fresh or frozen green beans for this recipe, but I prefer using fresh because they have a brighter flavor and texture. Once your green beans are prepared, place them into a pot for steaming. There are several different ways to steam green beans, and I'll give you more ideas in the written recipe, but today I'm going to use a steamer.

I have a pot where I'll place water in the bottom, and it's topped with a little steamer basket that has holes in the bottom to allow the steam from the boiling water to come through. Just sit right in there, and then it has a lid that goes on top to trap the steam inside. If you don't have a steamer basket, don't worry - just check out the other options in the written recipe for now.

Let's head on over to the stove and bring this water to a boil. We'll just crank up the heat to high and get those green beans steaming. Let them steam until they're tender, which will take about 15 minutes. Once they're done, we'll bust out a skillet and melt four tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, we can add in our steamed green beans.

Dump those in there, and then we're gonna season that with salt and pepper. Start sautéing them, you want to sauté the green beans in the butter over medium-high heat for about three to five minutes. They get just a little hint of browning on them - and that's what makes these green beans truly special. My family will gobble this up, in fact, I have to make about half a pound of green beans per person they like it so much, and that includes the kids.
