The iPad Pro: A Transitional Year for MacBook Pro Users?
As I sit here with my trusty iPad Pro by my side, I have to admit that 2019 has been a transitional year for me. As a long-time MacBook Pro user, I've grown accustomed to the power and portability of my laptop, but lately, I've found myself spending more and more time on my iPad Pro. With the introduction of iOS 13, Apple's latest operating system, the iPad Pro has become an even more formidable tool for productivity, creativity, and entertainment.
One of the things that's changed for me is how I work with multiple windows. On my MacBook Pro, I can easily switch between multiple apps using hot corners, but on the iPad Pro, I'm limited to only three apps at a time. However, I've discovered that this isn't a huge problem for me, and I've even found some benefits to working in this more streamlined way. Plus, with Looma Fusion, I can edit videos like never before on my iPad Pro.
Another area where the iPad Pro has won me over is in terms of portability. My MacBook Pro is great for getting work done, but it's not exactly easy to toss into a bag and go. The iPad Pro, on the other hand, is ultra-portable, with no cords or drives to worry about. It's literally grab-and-go, which is perfect for me. And while I still prefer to edit videos on my MacBook Pro, using Final Cut Pro and Photoshop, I think that could change soon.
In fact, Apple has recently announced that the full version of Photoshop will be coming to the iPad Pro very soon, which I'm really excited about. This means that I'll have all the tools I need to create stunning images and edit photos on my iPad Pro. And with Looma Fusion, I can take my video editing skills to the next level.
So, what's holding me back from switching solely to the iPad Pro? One thing is definitely the storage situation. While one terabyte of storage is a step up from nothing, it's still not ideal for someone like me who produces videos regularly. The price for this amount of storage on the iPad Pro is steep, and even with wireless drives, I can only expand my storage so much.
Another thing that comes to mind is how I miss certain features of my MacBook Pro. For example, I do miss the mouse interface sometimes, although I've gotten used to tapping on the screen instead of reaching for a mouse. And while I don't use an Apple pencil as much as I thought I would, it's still nice to have around.
At the end of the day, I think it's great that Apple users have an option between two awesome portable machines. If you prefer a more traditional laptop experience, then a MacBook Pro is the way to go. But if you're looking for something new and exciting, like me, then the iPad Pro might be just what you need.
That being said, I do have one accessory that's been a game-changer for me when using my iPad Pro: Paper-like. This amazing accessory makes it feel and sound like you're writing on real paper when you're using an Apple pencil. It reduces glare, fingerprints, and gives me more control over my writing and drawing. Plus, with free worldwide shipping and a 100% satisfaction guarantee, I highly recommend checking it out.
If you're considering buying either the MacBook Pro or iPad Pro, I would definitely recommend checking out my previous videos on these topics. There's a lot of valuable information and insights in those videos, from specs to usage scenarios, that will help you make an informed decision about which device is right for you.
And finally, I'd love to hear from you! Which one are you going to buy? Why did you choose the MacBook Pro or iPad Pro over the other? Let me know in the comments below. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram and Twitter at @dailyTek, and I'll catch you guys in the next video.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: entoday's video is brought to you by paper-like which makes writing or drawing on your iPad feel more like paper hey it's Chris and this is gonna be the 4th time now in the last few years that I've covered the iPad pro versus the MacBook Pro so why is this happening for a fourth time does it even need to well after owning both devices for the last few years and having the option to choose between either for any given task I feel like I'm clearly developing a bias towards using and choosing the iPad pro over the MacBook Pro and it felt like that was something that would be worth talking about there are definitely certain people out there who will almost get angry with you if you bring up the idea or even the possibility of the iPad pro replacing the MacBook Pro or a laptop like I was talking to this one guy and he was practically giving me a lecture on everything that was wrong with the new iPad pros according to him the multitasking and file management system is awful and he can't stand the lack of a mouse and he thinks it's dumb that hooking up an external monitor basically just makes things look bigger and even though he's not a professional musician himself he can't stand the fact that musicians don't have access to a built-in headphone jack and then there are plenty of other people who like to point out how pricey the new iPad pro is and that the old accessories don't work with the new version and that the new accessories are also privacy and that some important work related apps and websites are limited and even that the rear cameras are worse than the previous generation the new iPad pro isn't perfect and I'm not blind to that but there is something about it that keeps drawing me in in a major way few years back when I was getting really serious about making daily tech my full-time gig there was no question in my mind I knew I was gonna get a maxed out MacBook Pro to be my workhorse and I got it and I loved it and everything was great then came the iPad pro and my first iPad pro was the nine point seven inch and it never even occurred to me that I might want to replace my macbook pro with it it was just it's own separate device that had its own uses which basically amounted to consuming content and then came ten and a half inch in the twelve point nine inch iPad pros and I got both of those to review here on the channel and I loved both and to be honest that was the first year that I actually started thinking could one of these iPad pros actually replace a laptop or my macbook pro and the answer for me and I think for a lot of people was that it could replace most of my workflow most of it but not quite all of it so it wasn't quite a replacement yet and then I picked up the 2018 11 inch iPad pro and it was incredibly powerful and now it had USB C and Siri shortcut support provided the ability to create all kinds of not only shortcuts but also workarounds but it still ran on iOS 12 in terms of specs it could basically knock out the vast majority of laptops and thanks to ditching the lightning port it could also easily connect with all kinds of accessories but iOS 12 with iOS 12 Apple really concentrated on making it more stable which is great but also meant there was really not a whole lot that was new so all the old gripes that people had with iOS kind of stayed more or less the same personally I have felt very productive with the iPad pros current multitasking features and honestly I haven't felt like the file management system has made it impossible to do real work so do I think that multitasking on the iPad pro right now could be better well yeah like anything it could but has it made it impossible for me to actually do my work like a lot of people and their reviews seem to claim well no not even close actually and could the file management system be better and be improved and let you do more well yeah absolutely but same thing though it hasn't really stopped me dead in my tracks like I feel like so many people have put out there there's something really important that I've realized though since I've gotten my hands on this newest iPad pro and it's this I've realized that I really believe in the future of this platform and as excited as I am about it right now I'm even more excited about the future for starters I expect big things from iOS 13 I expect real improvements to the software features that people have been complaining about lately not only in the next update but in subsequent future updates as well so I think this current hardware with those future updates is gonna make a lot of people including myself really happy you have to keep in mind with iOS 12 Apple was patching things getting it in order with iOS 13 and Beyond they're back to swinging for the fences so I'm really excited about the future of the iPad pro but even here right now in the present here's something that I know for certain whenever I'm traveling or even when I'm just headed off to the coffee shop to get some work done and I see both the iPad pro and the MacBook Pro sitting there on my desk I always reach for the iPad pro to bring it with me it's just a gut reaction there's no debate in my head it's just I get the iPad pro and I take off every time and even when I'm working at my desk I still find myself gravitating towards the iPad pro even though my MacBook Pro has a bigger screen has a mouse can be hooked up to an external monitor and runs or loads absolutely all of the professional software on websites that I could ever want or need it's like mentally I just feel more focused on a specific task when I'm using the iPad pro because what some people call multitasking limitations I actually feel pretty comfortable with and kind of like so with the iPad pro I can't view 20 different windows at a glance with the hot corner shortcut I can only view and work with up to three different apps on the screen at once and that actually works alright for me and while the MacBook Pro obviously is portable the iPad pro is ultra portable and it doesn't have a bunch of cords sticking out of it at any given time that I have to take out before I can pack it up there's no drives that I have to eject before I can pack it up it's literally just grab and go now the business paid a lot for my MacBook Pro so I'm not ready to just cast it aside and truth be told I still prefer to edit videos on it in Final Cut Pro and the same goes for image editing in Photoshop so photo and video editing still mostly happen on my Mac for now for me personally but I think that's very likely to change in the very near future and honestly it really just happens as a force of habit right now looma fusion is genuinely awesome for editing video on the iPad pro and the full version of Photoshop is coming to the iPad pro very soon so basically as a longtime MacBook Pro user what I'm saying is I think that 2019 especially with the introduction of iOS 13 could end up being a transitional year for me from the MacBook Pro to a place where I really rely on the iPad pro as my go-to device and maybe the MacBook Pro either gets sold off or is just kind of there as a backup one thing that I feel is legitimately holding back the iPad pro right now is the storage situation the price for one terabyte of storage on the iPad pro is steep and even then just having one terabyte of storage isn't really ideal for somebody who produces videos like me on the iPad pro you can't yet connect wired hard drives to expand your storage using a USB C port and while you can use a wireless drive which i think is a must for a lot of different kinds of work and I'll link up two of the best solutions down in the description the storage situation is still less than ideal even so if you're determined to use the iPad pro professionally it is possible now the reality is if I do end up switching solely to the iPad pro as my main go to work and lifestyle computer there are things about the MacBook Pro that I would really miss and likewise if I was forced to just use the MacBook Pro there's plenty of things about the iPad pro that I would feel like I was missing out on and I haven't even touched on this yet but I can use my iPad pro in ways that the mat could only dream of like the iPad pro may not have a mouse but the MacBook Pro definitely doesn't have an Apple pencil I can write on a tablet that I have to plug in but that's not portable I can't write on the screen but I think it's interesting to point out that I never find myself reaching to the side of my iPad pro keyboard looking for a mouse just out of instinct but I do find myself trying to tap on the MacBook Pro screen from time to time and I think that actually says a lot about the iPad and its touch interface at the end of the day I think it's great that Apple users have an option between two awesome portable machines right now if you really prefer a mouse interface then you can have it and
