Greetings, my beautiful lovelies. It's Emmy, welcome back. Today I'm gonna be making a recipe that was inspired by the internet. Fancy that, something that I saw on the internet. I actually shared it on my social media. If you follow me at all, you might have seen it.
And if you didn't see it, it was a video that showed a series of cakes, birthday cakes and wedding cakes, that were made out of instant noodles. More specifically, Indomie's Mi Goreng, which is an instant noodle that comes with three little flavor packet sachets. Absolutely delicious, you eat the noodles rather than having 'em be soupy noodles. They're kind of drier and you add your little sauce packets and it is absolutely delicious.
This box of Mi Goreng that I just purchased from the Asian market. I've never bought a box of Mi Goreng before. This contains 30 noodles, which I think should be enough to make my cake. But I am going to be attempting to make a triple layer cake using instant ramen noodles. It sounds kind of outlandish, but then when you think about it, I'm totally a savory person.
In the morning, I always want a savory breakfast. I'll eat pancakes and waffles and I do like them once I start eating them, but when I wake up I usually am thinking savory. So, a savory cake, why not? It's just a shape after all. This idea of making instant noodles cakes seems to have originated from lunchboxes that kids would take to school. Sometimes moms would make them instant noodles, pack 'em into their lunchbox, and when they got their lunch box, you could invert their lunchbox and it would be perfectly molded into the shape of the box.
Some brilliant person said, "Why not use this idea for a cake?" And so, here I am, about to attempt to make an instant noodles cake. I'm excited to see how it turns out and if it's as delicious as my Mi Goreng noodle snack is. I'll be sure to share the results with you all in future videos.

Indonesian ramen cake. But from what I've gathered,it was apparently inspired by lunchboxesthat kids would take to school.Sometimes moms would makethem instant noodles, pack 'em into their lunchbox, and when they got their lunch box,you could invert their lunch boxand it would be perfectly moldedinto the shape of the box.(children cheering)So, some brilliant person said,\"Hey, that looks just like a cake.\"Why don't we make a weddingcake out of instant noodles?\"I mean, why not, right? So I'm gonna attempt it.I also got some more informationfrom a video that I found on YouTube. And the channel is calledKentung the Belly Drummer. And again, I will put the link down belowif you'd like to watch that.So Kentung goes behind the scenesat a bakery called TotAw in Jakarta, Indonesiawhere this cake was inventedto see how this cake was made.So I wasn't able to pick upwhat was being exchanged in the videobecause they were speaking Indonesian, but I could see some of the techniques. So I'm gonna try today to doone of the tiers of the cakeand if this turns out well,I'll continue with the others. So this bakery also makes ramnutswhich are ramen noodle donuts.- What?- I don't know where I was for this trend, but their sonuts look absolutely amazingbecause when you look at them they lookexactly like a kind of breaded donut. No glimpse of any ramenshowing whatsoever.I think they're batteredand then dipped in some kind of breadingbefore being fried.Anyways, if you're interestedin seeing that video, please chime in, in the comments belowand I will see if I can make it happen. But first today we're making cake.Oh man, look at this.(squealing)A layer of 15 instant noodles.(humming)Mi Goreng. All right, so I'm gonna grab four.I'm going to separatemy packets of noodles.Pretty similar to instantnoodles that you canfind here in the States likea Top Ramen or a Maruchan.Maybe not as tightlysquiggled as a Maruchan, but pretty similar.Deep-fried has that same kind of fried, dried noodle smell to it.Here are the flavor packets.Oh, I said there were three'cause I was remembering this. There are actually five. There are three kind of wet ones. You've got this kind of sweet soy sauce. You've got this chiliand then you've got this. This is my favorite, this is the seasoning oiland then you've got this packetwhich includes fried onionsand more seasoning flavor stuff. My water's come up to a boil.Along with the little scraps. And just boil these up forabout three to five minutes. Now instant noodles don'ttake any time to cook. That's why they're called instant. So, while that's happeningI'm gonna put allof the seasoning packetsinto this large bowl.As a kid I always felt thatwhen instant noodles had morethan one packet of seasoning,it was gonna be a reallygood thing and I have to saythat's generally true I feel. It's just better than just the powder. As kids my mom would alwaystell my brother and I,\"Don't use the entire seasoning packet\"when you make mushy mimi.\"And we didn't, but wealways felt kind of likewe were breaking the rulesif we did it 'cause it made it more tasty. So, today I'm gonna bemaking noodles in that veinand I'm just putting it all in.Sorry, Mom.So, I'm gonna cook thesejust a little bit moreon the softer side justto ensure that everythingis hydrated enough so that they canstick together once I tossthem with the seasoning.Kind of mix all of thisyumminess together.Oh, it smells great. It smells like soy sauce.A little bit of tanginess. It smells like a little bitof vinegar, soup base, onion.Yum!I think we're there.Hot noodles freshly boiled rightinto the seasoning and thentoss everything together.Oh, that smells amazing.I'm like getting a Mi Goreng facial.Lovely, I'm sure it'sreally great for my pores.Yeah.Okay, cool.Yum, yum, yummy sample. So, put this in here.Press everything down and wewanna make sure this is levelbecause we're gonna be stacking theseon top of each other.I'm gonna need some aluminum foil.Press this all the way around. And now we're gonna let it coolcompletely before we attempt to unmold it,and if it unmolds properly,we will continue with the other tiersand make this into a fishMi Goreng instant noodle wedding cake.(squealing)All right, stay tuned. All righty my lovelies, I am back. It's been a full 24 hours since I startedmy ramen cake projectand so far everythinglooks pretty good. Now, yesterday I made mymiddle tier of my ramen cakeand last night I testedit out and when I sawthat the whole cake came out cleanlyI went ahead and did the other layers. Here is the base layer.I did the same exact thingI did with the middle tier.I cooked seven packets of Mi Goreng. And then for the top layerI didn't have an appropriate-sized pan,so I used this measuring cupwhich I think will work just fine. So, I didn't want the caketo be the full thicknessof this container. The proportions wouldbe wrong in that way,so what I did was I made a littleplunger just out of some cardstock.Cut it out, wrapped it in foil.I used that to press the noodles down. So, the cakes are ready now. We're just gonna do the fun part, assembling and decorating the cake.(laughs)So, I'm gonna do this. And that.Slide it into the middle, shake. And bang and unmolding is alwaysmy favorite part of this game, isn't it?(laughing)It always is interesting. So, I don't wanna runa knife around the edge'cause I don't wanna mar the finish.Maybe I'm gonna run alittle hot towel over this.Warm things up, get that oil kind ofloosened up maybe, warmed up.So, I think what I'm gonna dois tap this on the counter a bit.Yeah, like that.(laughing)I'm sure the people at Tot Awhave a much bettermethod, but that worked.Yeah, there it is, the firstlayer of the noodle cake.Looking good.Next layer. So, we're gonna do somepreliminary banging. Not that kind. And then when I feel it, oh, giving way, just place it right on top.(laughing excitedly)This is looking really great.(laughs)So far we have a total of 11packets of instant noodles.(laughing)All right, finally, the top layer.Again.Just a little bit of knocking.(knocking)Okay, here we go.There.All right, here it is.Boom(laughing)Grab my bouquet of flowers.I just went to the floraldepartment at the grocery storeand picked up somegorgeous, lovely flowers.Aren't they great? So, I've got some hydrangeas here.Set those right on top.A rose would look really pretty. And with all flowerarrangements it's importantto have greenery.Essential, actually. So, we'll add some of thatand some baby's breath.Oh my gosh, this is looking awesome.Awesome, awesome, awesome. So, every time I life my arm up,you can see that I have ahole right in the armpit. This shirt I've had for many, many yearswas originally a men's shirt actually, but then I cut it down and re-sewed itand that's why it has this hole thereand I've just never fixed it.It's in my armpit, you onlysee when I go like thisit's good for ventilation too I figure.it's all about texture, right?Having a variety of textures.I've never made a wedding cake before,so I think it's appropriatethat my first wedding cakebe a instant noodle cake.I think that's so funny.Okay, so I'm gonna make thislittle cascade of flowers coming downthe side of my cake and then we willtaste this lovely creation.Oh my gosh, this is so funny.(laughing)(light music)(laughing happily)So here it is, the finished cake, and doesn't it look marvelous?I am so pleased with how this turned out.I mean, you've got a veryhumble instant noodle cake, and then you add some flowersand you've got instant elegance.(laughing)Love it, love it, love it, love it,and I'm so, so pleased. So, I just found out that todayis Johnny Cash's birthday,at least the day that I'm filming this,so this goes out to you Mr. Cashfor all the beautiful things you made.I give you a beautifulinstant noodle cake.(laughing)I'm not sure that he would approve, but the sentiment is there for sure.Alrighty, so I am very reluctant to cutinto this thing but I must taste thisand I'm just gonna cut this little wedgeright in the back so we'll still havethis beautiful front here.(light music)(chuckling)And there we have it,the instant noodle ramen cake.(light music)Alrighty so, let's givethis beautiful cake a taste. Here we are.And here we go, itadakimasu. You know what, it'ssurprisingly delicious.I thought for sure cold noodles, those aren't gonna taste good. It's delicious.Absolutely delicious. You've got all the flavors of Mi Gorengthat's still concentrated. The noodles have absorbed all the flavor. It's garlicky, it's slightly sweet,it's got soy sauce in it,got some onion flavor. It's very, very well-seasoned.And since we've pressedthis, you don't really haveso much of the noodle effect. There's no slurping, there's no kind of swivelinginside of your mouth. It's dense and it's gota nice bounce to it.I really, really likeit, it's cold though.I thought the cold partwould be unpleasant, but it's not, I like it, I really do.I do think I could use alittle bit of hot sauce, but I like hot sauce on everything.(laughing)So there you have it, thebeautiful and very elegantinstant noodle cake that was inspiredby the one found at TotAw in Jakarta, Indonesia. If you
