Our Fully Built Turbo Sand Rail Is ALIVE!

The Ultimate Victory: Bringing Back to Life a Fresh Motor

It was a cold start that seemed to signal the beginning of a new era for our trusty buggy. The engine, fresh out of the box with brand new pistons, rods, and a head that had undergone significant modifications, was finally ready to take on the world. However, as we all know, getting it running smoothly wasn't going to be an easy feat. The motor seemed to be struggling to breathe, coughing up oil and smoke like there was no tomorrow.

Come on, come on, get some air! This is one hell of a cold start. We repeated this mantra over and over again, hoping that somehow, someway, the engine would magically spring to life. And then, like a mirage on the horizon, it happened – the motor began to purr. It was a slow process, with the engine still sputtering and coughing up oil. But we were determined to nurse it back to health.

We soon discovered that the motor had a few tricks up its sleeve. The little poppy on top of the intake manifold seemed to be taunting us, but eventually, we managed to get the motor to idle. It was a moment of triumph, one that we would cherish for years to come. We also realized that the oil pressure gauge was a good indicator of the motor's health – and it was reading full. A solid unit was finally within our grasp.

However, our celebration was short-lived. We soon discovered that the motor had developed some quirks of its own. It seemed to be running rich, which meant that we would need to fine-tune the fuel injection system. This wasn't a problem, as we were confident in our abilities. After all, we had spent countless hours rebuilding this engine from the ground up.

The Rebirth: A Fresh Start

It was a journey that had taken over a year to complete – from the moment it first hit us that December day until now. We had moved to Florida and left the motor to sit, but it had refused to give up. The engine seemed to be waiting patiently for its chance to shine once more.

As we worked on the motor, we couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over us. This was our baby, and we had fought tooth and nail to get it running again. We added new injectors, changed the fuel filter, and fine-tuned the tuning system. The dyno would provide the final verdict – would this baby be able to deliver?

The Dyno: A Final Check

We fired up the motor one last time, eager to see how she performed on the dyno. And then, it happened – the numbers began to roll in, and we couldn't believe our eyes. The power output was impressive, with no signs of struggle or hesitation. It was a solid unit, one that would take us back to the dunes and beyond.

But before we could celebrate, we realized that there were still a few loose ends to tie up. We needed to button up a couple of things and make sure that everything was running smoothly. A little TLC and some fine-tuning, and this baby would be ready to roll.

The Road Ahead

Tomorrow marked the beginning of a new chapter for our buggy. With its fresh motor humming along, we were eager to take it out for a spin and see what she could do. The tune had been tweaked, and we were confident that everything was in working order. We would hit the road, ready to take on whatever adventures came our way.

As we looked over the buggy, now gleaming in the sunlight, we couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. This was our baby, rebuilt from the ground up, and it had finally come alive. The controller for the lights and accessories would need to be replaced – a small price to pay for this beauty's return. But we wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

And so, with our trusty buggy ready to roll, we set off on the next leg of our journey. The adventures would continue, with this fresh motor leading the way.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: encome on baby come on baby she's gonna go she's gonna go oh all right guys we're getting close on the razzle dazzle here in the last video we got the built engine back into this thing and as you can see we have the intake manifold on the wiring harness is done we've been picking up the shifter cables we got the cv axles on we still got to get those greased up and now we are just installing the rest of our turbo kit for this thing so we're gonna go ahead and hang this guy on we still gotta get the intercooler on and all the boost pipes we still have to put oil in it and uh we're just double checking a few things here and there but she's getting really close to your voice it's about an hour away from firing up yeah about a solid hour away and this thing should be making some noise and i'm freaking getting real excited so hopefully it's not this noise yeah hopefully we don't hear any knocking you know we had to go to the machine shop we had to do all kinds of stuff we got a crank that we found laying on the ground didn't exactly check clearances yeah we just kind of sent it but yep it'll ride it'd be all right now she's coming together getting the terpsky back on there that's the final the final touch right there it's done fired up you're done ready to go looks great we're also going to pull this fitting out because that probably has a whole bunch of gunk in there and just make sure everything's clean we got the oil line all cleaned out too break cleaned it out don't want to have any gunk in your oil feed lines because we have been there before and your turbo says no more after that because it doesn't get enough oil because this place is kind of dusty and there was definitely some dirt in there we got those definitely ran it forever with a blown up engine yep so uh yeah keep on going get her all buttoned up here she'll be ready to fire up here soon all right guys everything's about ready to go got our boost pipes on turbo's hung up oil lines ran and we just got to get oil on this thing and we are ready for our first fire and we actually have the battery disconnected and for the first time in our history on this channel the battery has a charge and it might be enough to actually start without a jump box but we'll get back to you on that but there's a good possibility we powered it on uh prime the fuel system no leaks the fans come on the light bar still works so looking promising boys get this oil in there and give her a test crank and then if everything sounds good let it rip fire up all right boys she's all oiled up ready to go you want to give her a test crank with no ignition on no or you just want to go straight ignition and go all right i guess just send it ready come on yeah see if this battery has enough power oh no she tried what'd you put in the corner over there we knew it was too good to be true no i i hid it around the corner because i didn't want it to be a thing that's why i didn't work because you brought that jump box over i didn't show it to it we almost had enough boys but once again we have a dead battery it's not that loud yeah they don't sound very strong oh yeah maybe there's not a good ground to the well but i mean it's straight bolted to the the rail what's our voltage gauge say we only have 10 volts though this doesn't just say battery now though let's try it no she's still dead all right next in line jump box number two battery with that we just gotta hook that jump box to that jump box to the battery all right yep now we're at 12 volts a little over so all right guys we're just going to let her charge for a second we'll be back yeah it is snowing out we got the canoe the canoe the race week canoe that's true but it might take off oh yeah all your signatures worn off all right she has been charging for a while now we're gonna give it another shot here see if it has enough to fire on up go for it maybe some brake cleaner yeah got hmm i wonder if we've got pressure let's pull one of these coils out real quick just to make sure we got spark yeah we could pull one of the front ones out and yeah just double check real quick you can even double check compression to be sure if we had to yeah well guys all i can say is the razzle dazzle does not want to cooperate so every step of the way we turn the motor over we're getting ready for a first start and the starter motor sounded kind of weak like it was struggling we had no spark because it turns out the starter motor is pulling all the power trying to turn this thing over we put all our jump boxes on it and also that means our battery might have been fine our battery might have had enough charge because it took everything just to get this to turn over and it still wasn't turning over very fast it sounded just kind of weird and we put a ratchet onto the crank pulley and tried to turn it over by hand and this thing's like almost locked up it is very hard to turn over and we're like okay what the heck we turned it over when we got the tying belt and everything on and it turned over fine so we know it's not like the clearances with the bearings or anything like that we were thinking the only other thing we changed was the flywheel and clutch setup and we loosened the transmission just to make sure that like the input shaft wasn't pushing on a clutch disc like maybe something was wrong there with the transmission loose it was still really hard to turn over so we're like well now we gotta pull the trans and just take a look at everything so it turns out the transmission does come out pretty easy but a couple hour delay here boys we got the transmission out of the dazzle and we found our issue so the new flywheel that we got it actually hits right there so you can see that line where it was turning over and that was rubbing right on this inside hole right here that taper comes out a little too much and it does rub and what we're gonna do is we're just gonna drill a whole bunch of little holes on this outside ring right here and smack that out of there clean it up and just open up this hole put it all back together and then it should work because now the engine turns over fine with the flywheel off we're hoping that it didn't do any damage to the thrust washer because when we tighten that flywheel down that's going to try to suck the crank over this way since you know it wasn't sitting flush against that surface there so hopefully while we were turning it over it wasn't putting way too much pressure on the thrust there but uh that's where we're at boys so we're going to go ahead get that clearanced out we'll get everything back together and keep on trying man the reason also i don't know if you put in the video we had no spark why it wouldn't start is because that starter was drawn so much yeah that's what it actually shuts off the ecu yeah and like the ec will go back to ground yeah the starter was working very hard so nothing else had power because the amps it was pulling were just insane and the starter was getting very hot so yep we'll get it freaking clearanced out and one day the razzle dazzle will fire up but she has been a pain in our butts the pistons were wrong the rods were wrong we had to switch the crank and now the flywheel has to be clearance this thing has fought us every step of the way that is for sure yep it will run tonight we're making it happen whether you like it or not dazzle you are going back together we're making you work so let's get it done well that'll do that'll do cut out here's our section just drilled a whole bunch of holes and knocked it out of there and that is uh it works not the prettiest but it'll work it'll ride get the flywheel back on it's not going to hit rub anymore yep freaking send it dude got the flywheel on there with a couple bolts turning it over making sure nothing hits it looks like we are good so we definitely should have checked that before we stuck it all in there but we found that out the hard way considering i could lean on that thing and it barely wanted to spin yeah it was basically locked up guys it was not good we're good and now it's spinning over freely so we can go ahead and put it all back together so all right razzle dazzle please cooperate we got it back together transmission's on we're tired of this thing dude come on so we got all the coils unplugged we got one spark plug out we're gonna check for spark real quick yeah nice i saw spark and it sounds normal now it's actually turning over you're not just sick all right get that plug back on fire up now she gonna run we're getting there boys we ain't quitters all right boys here we go she's all back together give her hell oh come on baby come on baby she's gonna she's gonna go oh come on come on come on come on come on come on this is one hell of a cold start come on come on get some air oh so close so close second so just mirrors that's like backfiring all weird it'll come around come around i think it will no it's starting to go yeah there's still a lot of oil in there and let's go there it is see the little poppy hey it's idling okay hey she's running she just has to bro she just has to clear out a little bit we got good oil pressure come on you just baby let it clear itself out a little bit a little oil the manifold is burning off there we go you sounding better she might need to let her break in a little bit and clear out we still need to get cooling in it i'm sure there's a ton of oil in the intake and everything it's burning out it's going to take a while to burn all that oil out of it it's a fresh motor so get all that smoke cleared out get some miles on her but she runs boys finally figured it out every step of the way dude this freaking razzle dazzle man but it runs it sounds decent it's got great oil pressure yeah sounds great oil pressure is good turbo's spinning perfect oh yeah ready to rip it tomorrow yeah yeah the only thing we got to put back on now is the cv axles back to the trans we just left those off in case the trans had to come off for the 18th time but it's all together good to go and yeah this backing port was open oh yeah we didn't get the blow off fell off oh yeah that's what i would say all right i'll fire it again uh yeah she's running a little rich so it should clear up nothing the dyno can't fix yeah when we had it in the dunes the injectors were plugged and the filter was plugged so i'm sure just added a ton of fuel to try and get it to come back into spec it's crazy it's been down for almost a year yeah carbon monoxide i like lung cancer and lost brain cells yeah now she's complete yes sir dude this thing's ready to rip ready to go back to the dunes baby i'm real sad we lost the controller for those so it looks like they're staying blue we got a little remote to change the colors and it's gone yep i missed the strobing effect but whatever it might be somewhere over there i'll look for it tonight yeah but there she is guys she is running we just gotta button up a couple things and then tomorrow we're gonna try to hopefully drive this thing around yeah the tune should be pretty close so it
