**A Book Haul and Review: January's Crate Delights**
Oh, it's a pillowcase which I don't like it's a path oh it's a pillowcase, which I don't think they've ever done before. Once upon a dream pillowcase but all like dark and spooky that is lovely. The shop for that is apparently Stella's bookish art and so we have this spooky print that's all like a big bad wolf Little Red Riding Hood thing just wonderful. The thing I thought was a choker is actually a bracelet and once you have a very small neck, that print is from an LAMBO LET which is just again I like it, it's spooky.
This almost reminds me of um what's that video game where you're in the woods and you're, it's like almost Tim Burton II looking. Don't starve that's what they kind of the wolf reminds me man the book oh thank god oh crate has just saved my damn life. The book this month is "The Cruel Prince" by Holly Black and this is an autocrat exclusive cover because I happen to know what the cruel prince cover looks like since I've seen it everywhere so I'm excited about this.
Okay, so if you haven't been all over book Twitter Goodreads anything you haven't seen the onslaught that has been the release of this book. Everyone reading it this was not my most anticipated reads like I haven't read in Holly Black I decided to have any thoughts and then people started talking about it positively and I was like oh, I could try that this is getting some really good buzz like maybe I'll like it and then everyone started talking about it and I was like fear because then something gets too hyped then I never read it especially if I don't own it. Because I didn't own it so I was like no, I know I can't read it because now the hype is so much.
So many books this has happened to me that I haven't liked it and it's just I don't like it. I want I want to like it but now it's gotten so hyped out of this world that I don't know. And I actually don't know anything about it which is what I'm not going to read you the synopsis this is a very hyped book so I'm not going to tell you what it is because I still don't know what it is besides it being a fey book and like political intrigue to get all of that and Dark Fae. And that's all I need to know because I need to read this as soon as possible because the hype is too real, it's too much.
And everyone that I know is ready basically and I need to read it now so wish me luck and send me blessings. This will also be a good book for February which is a read-a-thon that Sarah Jane is doing for The Book Life which I just thought about when I was doing my makeup before I was filming this because I watched her video so I will link her video down below. But it's about reading Fey books, I'm already reading one fake book for sure in February and this is my second one. It's perfect timing the planets have aligned for your girl.
I'm very nervous thank God there was a couple of options that it could have been and I've been happy with a lot of them but I was really hoping to get that one because I didn't want to buy it because I have too many books myself already bloated. Ah, that was like an L creat sends it to me then that's a sign and it's a sign.
And as with every month without crate you get a letter personalized from the author and this one actually comes signed it's gonna be a good 2018 with L crate let me tell you have this little newsletter thing that they've been doing so they have like games in here and interviews with people who contribute to the Box like store owners and stuff like that. And little like games and stuff.
And just like comparisons between the different covers and everything so it's a fun little thing that they do in it's very like community building and I really like it and they theme for next month's box is going to be hidden worlds. I really like the look of that, that art always I like their little announcement pieces I just think they're so beautiful.

**A Special Thank You to Crate**
A huge thank you to Crate for sending me this amazing box in January. It was a surprise and I loved every book that came with it. The exclusive item from Ever After Press is also something special that I'm really excited about.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys it's Sam and this is my January book haul this book haul includes some things that I got from my family for Christmas and then some boxes and some things I got from publishers it's just kind of a mishmash of everything so starting with Christmas the first thing I got was Morningstar by Pierce brown I am hype I am excited this is the third book in the original red rising trilogy this month actually the next book in this series came out but I'm not sure if it's a continuation the series our companion or how it technically Falls but I need to finish this still and a lot of you been asking me what I'm gonna finish it and I didn't own it yet until now so she'll I'm going to attempt to get to this as soon as possible I say that with so many things but I really want to because the last book with a cliffhanger and I I'm nervous so I want to get to this soon then I got monstrous vol 2 which monstrous is one of my favorite graphic novel series and I hadn't read the second volume which is a crime but I actually read the first volume over Christmas last year so this was just kind of poetic that I happen to get for Christmas this year and this may be a nominee for the booktube SFF awards definitely in the running because this is one of the only graphic novel series that anybody talked about in booktube so I it's time and I'm ready and it's so beautiful speaking of beautiful because I know you guys can see them out look at my nails I know I keep staring at them oh there are these not the most beautiful things you've ever seen and the most like me my nail some ovals ever been like if they could just grow my fingers like this that would be my preference anyway this is a beautiful graphic novel series and there's just so many great things about it there's Japanese folklore mythology and old gods and dark magic and the main character is an amputee and it's very female dominated and it's a lot it's very violent very graphic but it's so beautiful and the last book that I got for Christmas is actually a giant tome of a nonfiction book and that is the emperor of all maladies by Siddhartha moosari now this is one of the only non-fiction books I have ever been interested in because this is the story of cancer so apparently this is told in a way that is following people that were involved with either cancer research or were dying there were physicians treating cancer throughout the history of cancer knowing what cancer is and no other non fiction has quite wrapped me in and made me interested the way that a book like this is as many of you know and some of you may not I had cancer in 2015 and 2016 and I am always searching for books that represent that well and now I'm kind of dipping my toes into nonfiction because I just am not finding it in fiction but I've heard nothing but amazing things about this this also was the Pulitzer Prize winner and it's apparently just breathtaking because it's told in a way that makes it feel more like a novel because it's about people and not just about this science and everything so this is fascinating to me the whole world of oncology is fascinating to me and I'm so excited to read it it is huge but a lot of it is citations and notes as well so it's not as intimidating as it could be but I've heard that it's really gripping and amazing and wonderful and I am very very excited to read this next we have a couple books I was sent by publishers so the first book I was sent by source books and that is fury borne by Clara Legrand now I actually recently read winter spell which is another book by Clara Legrand and end up really enjoying a lot of it and this is obviously a book that's been written more recently so I'm excited to see how her writing has improved and everything but this sounds super interesting this follows two different protagonists in two different timelines thousands of years apart first girl is Ryle and she ends up saving her friend who's the crown prince but by doing that she reveals that she possesses all seven kinds of elemental magic which just feels very avatar to me and the only people who are supposedly allowed to do these seven kinds of magic are either the Sun Queen or the queen of darkness whose name isn't mentioned in the blurb but some queen of the bad queen basically so she has to take the test to prove that she is the Sun queen then a thousand years later her story is actually a fairy tale kind of story - the other main character and that is eliana who is a bounty hunter and her mother actually goes missing and she has to team up and go on a quest to find her mother she always has a team up with a rebel captain which you kind of know how that goes but she lives in a very dangerous evil empire and she ends up finding out exactly how bad the world that she lives in is the blurb describes it as these two characters fighting a cause mcward at spans millenia in her sex and it just sounds so good I've already been hearing some little rumblings about this being really good so I'm excited about this one this comes out May 22nd then tour was lovely and they sent me a copy of sight which by susan dennard this is actually a novella or maybe slightly longer than a novella but it is in the which Lance series which is truth which and wind which and all those that my favorite ongoing series right now and this fella is a pretty prominent side character in that series who is a sight which and she's like a pirate and stuff so I am so excited to like hear more about her story because I love her and I'll tide me over until the third book like the third official book comes out in the series from tour I also received echoes of understory by Thurid Eyre now this is the second book in the titans forest i think it's a serious trilogy not really sure how many books is going to be but the first book is crossroads of canopy and it's one i've been meaning to read for so long it keeps like jumping out at me and it keeps being like read me like i keep thinking about it it's like that should be my next book but now i've hyped it in my own head because i haven't really heard anybody else talk about it so i've hyped it in my own head now i keep putting it off but this is a fantasy story that takes place in this like giant forest that this giant eldritch seeming forest because of there's these huge trees and the cities are the trees and all this stuff and I love me some tree cities like in the Elder Scrolls MMO which I've played a lot of that you have like the elves living in these like big giant tree cities and like just anything with like these giant forests I just really like it I'm just really into forests of any kind but these like huge prehistoric forests just I really enjoy so I don't know what talk about this series overall but it's what I've been really excited about and hoping is one of those like underrated reads that I can really get into then we have December's nerdy postbox and yes I did say December because I get nerdy post boxes really late I think it's just my postal service around here I just get things late in general but I usually get this at the very very end of the month and I'm usually not able to film necessarily for that month depending on how long I have to wait and stuff because I have to pre film a lot my videos so this didn't come before I left for the holidays by any means so that's why I'm doing this now but I am a nerdy post affiliate so I'll leave my coupon code down below that code does not benefit anyway it just gives you some money off and it does not give me any money or anything like that that's just there for you if you are interested and as per usual I'm forgetting the theme so this month's theme is Narnia which fits because you know snow boiler card is this little print that says laugh and fear not these are obviously all gonna be Narnia quotes I'm not going to tell you like each time this is a very good quote because you're gonna know the first thing is a little necklace and it's a little lamppost which I feel like is like the iconic Narnia lamppost I only ever read the first book and I think I saw the first movie so I'm not like a Narnia expert by any means but you know I know things it's a cultural thing then we have this pin that says be of Good Hope if this little looks like a coaster it's like a cloth coaster and it has Aslan on it who is obviously the lion also a metaphor for Jesus that those of you don't know that seus Lewis real religious and we have this little cute sticker with this little mouse and it says here is as great an adventure as ever I heard of then we have the little nerdy post car that you get every month and you can color it in and stuff it's one of the little things that they always do and this has mr. Tumnus on it in the nerdy post and I was actually talking about mr. Tumnus the other day because someone mentioned James McAvoy and I was like who was mr. Tumnus and they were like what and I was like you guys didn't all have a crush on mr. Tumnus like everyone I know did and we have one of their beautiful bookmarks I love their bookmark so they're like that wonderful buttery feeling this mode like book covers are so this says the made-up things seem a good deal more important than the real ones which is really pretty like that color scheme and then a very long quote that I'm not going to read you because I'm lazy and it's in its flowery print but it's beautiful I like this I like this side I like that color scheme or and I like the font then we have this really pretty smaller print of the Wardrobe that is just stunning and one that isn't obvious that it's not ready unless you really know so I feel like anybody could hey Miss Emily so pretty it's so oh it's so nice and winter I love it and then we have some larger prints as well so they're always come the nerdy posts always come with like larger print they have like the bookmarks and the different little things always and then they have like at least one larger print sometimes - and this is pretty because it has like a Pegasus a unicorn a dragon and it says even I never dreamt of magic like this which is so pretty and so cute I love that I love me some mythical creatures man and January theme is Disney Villains so we'll see what happens with the Disney Villains cuz everybody loves the Disney Villains and last but not least we have this month I will crate box as you guys know I am an elk RIT affiliate just like with nerdy post so I have a coupon code down below for 10% off your purchase if you are interested in getting a box again this is not financially benefit me at all it's not sponsor or anything it's just for you guys now this one I've been really excited about so I hope we're not disappointed but I've been really excited because I remembered that the theme is dark fairy tales and I'm very interested to see what book is in here because there's a couple dark fairy tale books that I really want so I've been hyped to get to this box let me tell you so first we have their card with the art on it huh I'm so excited you guys don't even know you guys don't even know so this is okay apparently it's more like a little I don't want to show you these are obviously all credits elusive like basically everything they have in their box now is an exclusive promo crate which is just marvelous oh my god this is a little owl crate exclusive wax burner so you put the little tea light in here and then you have a little wax star up here but like yeah and how much this it looks like almost like smoky it's like a marble II kind of thing but it almost looks smoky this is so beautiful and so that is so witchy then I figured they would also give some little wax stars so this is again an ultra exclusive and this is from fireside candles which is in Charleston South Carolina and it's the Hansel and Gretel scent which let's see what it's technically oh my it's sweet obviously it's like very like gingerbread II very sweet and we have a little matching pin that comes with every owl crate box that matches the art for that month and then we have this little choker and it's a little Rapunzel little choker I'd only get spoiled for the book to students so I keep like reaching my hand and being like path oh it's a pillowcase which I don't they've ever done before once upon a dream pillowcase but all like dark and spooky that is lovely the shop for that is apparently Stella's bookish art and so we have this spooky print that's all like a big bad wolf Little Red Riding Hood thing just wonderful the thing I thought was a choker the cruel prince by Holly black and this is an autocrat exclusive cover because I happen to know what the cruel prince cover looks like since I've seen it everywhere so I'm excited about this okay so if you haven't been all over book Twitter Goodreads anything you haven't seen the onslaught that has been the release of this book and everyone reading it this was not my most anticipated reads like I to be hidden worlds I really like the look of that that art I always I like their little announcement pieces I just think they're so beautiful so for a February box everyone is going to receive an extra large and exclusive item from evey book issues a really popular shop at is Booker stuff and this is a special item we've never included before so just finishing this whole haul with the bang that is it for all the books that I got in January so comment below let me know if you read any of these things what you thought of them I know a lot of people have read cruel prints don't I probably have already yet don't say anything I'm nervous don't say anything but all of the other books talk to me about this line so thank you all for watching and I'll soonhey guys it's Sam and this is my January book haul this book haul includes some things that I got from my family for Christmas and then some boxes and some things I got from publishers it's just kind of a mishmash of everything so starting with Christmas the first thing I got was Morningstar by Pierce brown I am hype I am excited this is the third book in the original red rising trilogy this month actually the next book in this series came out but I'm not sure if it's a continuation the series our companion or how it technically Falls but I need to finish this still and a lot of you been asking me what I'm gonna finish it and I didn't own it yet until now so she'll I'm going to attempt to get to this as soon as possible I say that with so many things but I really want to because the last book with a cliffhanger and I I'm nervous so I want to get to this soon then I got monstrous vol 2 which monstrous is one of my favorite graphic novel series and I hadn't read the second volume which is a crime but I actually read the first volume over Christmas last year so this was just kind of poetic that I happen to get for Christmas this year and this may be a nominee for the booktube SFF awards definitely in the running because this is one of the only graphic novel series that anybody talked about in booktube so I it's time and I'm ready and it's so beautiful speaking of beautiful because I know you guys can see them out look at my nails I know I keep staring at them oh there are these not the most beautiful things you've ever seen and the most like me my nail some ovals ever been like if they could just grow my fingers like this that would be my preference anyway this is a beautiful graphic novel series and there's just so many great things about it there's Japanese folklore mythology and old gods and dark magic and the main character is an amputee and it's very female dominated and it's a lot it's very violent very graphic but it's so beautiful and the last book that I got for Christmas is actually a giant tome of a nonfiction book and that is the emperor of all maladies by Siddhartha moosari now this is one of the only non-fiction books I have ever been interested in because this is the story of cancer so apparently this is told in a way that is following people that were involved with either cancer research or were dying there were physicians treating cancer throughout the history of cancer knowing what cancer is and no other non fiction has quite wrapped me in and made me interested the way that a book like this is as many of you know and some of you may not I had cancer in 2015 and 2016 and I am always searching for books that represent that well and now I'm kind of dipping my toes into nonfiction because I just am not finding it in fiction but I've heard nothing but amazing things about this this also was the Pulitzer Prize winner and it's apparently just breathtaking because it's told in a way that makes it feel more like a novel because it's about people and not just about this science and everything so this is fascinating to me the whole world of oncology is fascinating to me and I'm so excited to read it it is huge but a lot of it is citations and notes as well so it's not as intimidating as it could be but I've heard that it's really gripping and amazing and wonderful and I am very very excited to read this next we have a couple books I was sent by publishers so the first book I was sent by source books and that is fury borne by Clara Legrand now I actually recently read winter spell which is another book by Clara Legrand and end up really enjoying a lot of it and this is obviously a book that's been written more recently so I'm excited to see how her writing has improved and everything but this sounds super interesting this follows two different protagonists in two different timelines thousands of years apart first girl is Ryle and she ends up saving her friend who's the crown prince but by doing that she reveals that she possesses all seven kinds of elemental magic which just feels very avatar to me and the only people who are supposedly allowed to do these seven kinds of magic are either the Sun Queen or the queen of darkness whose name isn't mentioned in the blurb but some queen of the bad queen basically so she has to take the test to prove that she is the Sun queen then a thousand years later her story is actually a fairy tale kind of story - the other main character and that is eliana who is a bounty hunter and her mother actually goes missing and she has to team up and go on a quest to find her mother she always has a team up with a rebel captain which you kind of know how that goes but she lives in a very dangerous evil empire and she ends up finding out exactly how bad the world that she lives in is the blurb describes it as these two characters fighting a cause mcward at spans millenia in her sex and it just sounds so good I've already been hearing some little rumblings about this being really good so I'm excited about this one this comes out May 22nd then tour was lovely and they sent me a copy of sight which by susan dennard this is actually a novella or maybe slightly longer than a novella but it is in the which Lance series which is truth which and wind which and all those that my favorite ongoing series right now and this fella is a pretty prominent side character in that series who is a sight which and she's like a pirate and stuff so I am so excited to like hear more about her story because I love her and I'll tide me over until the third book like the third official book comes out in the series from tour I also received echoes of understory by Thurid Eyre now this is the second book in the titans forest i think it's a serious trilogy not really sure how many books is going to be but the first book is crossroads of canopy and it's one i've been meaning to read for so long it keeps like jumping out at me and it keeps being like read me like i keep thinking about it it's like that should be my next book but now i've hyped it in my own head because i haven't really heard anybody else talk about it so i've hyped it in my own head now i keep putting it off but this is a fantasy story that takes place in this like giant forest that this giant eldritch seeming forest because of there's these huge trees and the cities are the trees and all this stuff and I love me some tree cities like in the Elder Scrolls MMO which I've played a lot of that you have like the elves living in these like big giant tree cities and like just anything with like these giant forests I just really like it I'm just really into forests of any kind but these like huge prehistoric forests just I really enjoy so I don't know what talk about this series overall but it's what I've been really excited about and hoping is one of those like underrated reads that I can really get into then we have December's nerdy postbox and yes I did say December because I get nerdy post boxes really late I think it's just my postal service around here I just get things late in general but I usually get this at the very very end of the month and I'm usually not able to film necessarily for that month depending on how long I have to wait and stuff because I have to pre film a lot my videos so this didn't come before I left for the holidays by any means so that's why I'm doing this now but I am a nerdy post affiliate so I'll leave my coupon code down below that code does not benefit anyway it just gives you some money off and it does not give me any money or anything like that that's just there for you if you are interested and as per usual I'm forgetting the theme so this month's theme is Narnia which fits because you know snow boiler card is this little print that says laugh and fear not these are obviously all gonna be Narnia quotes I'm not going to tell you like each time this is a very good quote because you're gonna know the first thing is a little necklace and it's a little lamppost which I feel like is like the iconic Narnia lamppost I only ever read the first book and I think I saw the first movie so I'm not like a Narnia expert by any means but you know I know things it's a cultural thing then we have this pin that says be of Good Hope if this little looks like a coaster it's like a cloth coaster and it has Aslan on it who is obviously the lion also a metaphor for Jesus that those of you don't know that seus Lewis real religious and we have this little cute sticker with this little mouse and it says here is as great an adventure as ever I heard of then we have the little nerdy post car that you get every month and you can color it in and stuff it's one of the little things that they always do and this has mr. Tumnus on it in the nerdy post and I was actually talking about mr. Tumnus the other day because someone mentioned James McAvoy and I was like who was mr. Tumnus and they were like what and I was like you guys didn't all have a crush on mr. Tumnus like everyone I know did and we have one of their beautiful bookmarks I love their bookmark so they're like that wonderful buttery feeling this mode like book covers are so this says the made-up things seem a good deal more important than the real ones which is really pretty like that color scheme and then a very long quote that I'm not going to read you because I'm lazy and it's in its flowery print but it's beautiful I like this I like this side I like that color scheme or and I like the font then we have this really pretty smaller print of the Wardrobe that is just stunning and one that isn't obvious that it's not ready unless you really know so I feel like anybody could hey Miss Emily so pretty it's so oh it's so nice and winter I love it and then we have some larger the cruel prince by Holly black and this is an autocrat exclusive cover because I happen to know what the cruel prince cover looks like since I've seen it everywhere so I'm excited about this okay so if you haven't been all over book Twitter Goodreads anything you haven't seen the onslaught that has been the release of this book and everyone reading it this was not my most anticipated reads like I out of this world that I don't know and I actually don't know anything about it which is what I'm not going to read you the synopsis this is a very hyped book so I'm not going to tell you what it is because I still don't know what it is besides it being a fey book and like political intrigue to get all of that and Dark Fae and that's all I need to know because I need to read this as soon as possible because the hype is too real it's too much and everyone that I know is ready basically and I need to read it now so wish me luck and send me blessings this will also be a good book for Febuary which is a read-a-thon that Sarah Jane is doing for the book life which I just thought about when I was doing my makeup before I was filming this because I watched her video so I will link her video down below but it's about reading Fay books I'm already reading one fake book for sure in February and this is my second one it's perfect timing the planets have aligned for your girl I'm very nervous thank God there was a couple of options that it could have been and I've been happy with a lot of them but I was really hoping to get that one because I didn't want to buy it because I have too many books myself already bloated ah that was like an L creat sends it to me then that's a sign and it's a sign and as with every month without crate you get a letter personalized from the author and this one actually comes sign usually it's a sign of a plate a row of atomic rate but this is actually signed it's gonna be a good 2018 with L crate let me tell you have this little newsletter thing that they've been doing so they have like games in here and interviews with people who contribute to the Box like store owners and stuff like that and little like games and stuff and just like comparisons between the different covers and everything so it's a fun little thing that they do in it's very like community building and I really like it and they theme for next month's box is going to be hidden worlds I really like the look of that that art I always I like their little announcement pieces I just think they're so beautiful so for a February box everyone is going to receive an extra large and exclusive item from evey book issues a really popular shop at is Booker stuff and this is a special item we've never included before so just finishing this whole haul with the bang that is it for all the books that I got in January so comment below let me know if you read any of these things what you thought of them I know a lot of people have read cruel prints don't I probably have already yet don't say anything I'm nervous don't say anything but all of the other books talk to me about this line so thank you all for watching and I'll soon\n"
