JBL Link View Smart Display Review

Now use multi-room audio with this device and your other Google Home or Smart Display devices play my office party playlist on the office group okay playing your Google Play Music playlist called Office Party on the office booth. The update also allows for the Nest Hello to display who is at the doorbell when it's rang on the Link View, and then you can send responses right from the screen. Just a second, we'll be right there. Hi there, you can just leave it thanks, hi there, no one can answer the door right now, we'll be notified you stopped by next.

Let's talk about the screen of the Link View so this has an 8-inch HD display, so the actual resolution is 1280 x 800, and it looks very crisp and clear. Videos looked amazing on this, and I like the size of it; it's kind of a mid-range between the Home Hub and the Lenovo Smart Display, so it will fit pretty much anywhere. I didn't have a problem with it sitting on a nightstand or just in a kitchen or wherever it looked really great.

But a few things that I didn't like about the display is the reflective cover that is on here; it's water-resistant, so if you get some water on it or I guess splash-resistant, you shouldn't have any problem there. But I found that the screen or the glass here was extra reflective, just whenever I was looking at it sometimes I couldn't quite see what was on the screen because it was being reflective or the room was too bright or whatever.

Also, I noticed that sometimes if it was tilted too far or I was too far away from it I couldn't see what was on the screen because it just wasn't as bright in the daylight. At night, I had no problem; when it was a little darker, but those are the only complaints that I have.

One thing I did notice of course is if any video or anything was playing on it my kids were always drawn to it as you can see so really no problem there they watched it without any hiccups.

Next let's talk about the best part of the Link View, on the sides here, you have two 2-inch full-range drivers, so they sounded really good; really brought the bass one of the best sounding Google Assistant speakers that I've heard as well as Smart Display can really push out the sound. So if you're looking for a device that has the best sound I'm going to say this is it; as it has really good bass and treble tones as well, I found that it's able to fill a complete room.

So here in my kitchen, the main room that we're in, it filled the room just fine and it sounded really good. So now a few other things that worked really well was when you do a Google Duo video chat so here I'm going to call Carrie real quick, and see what the quality looks like making a video call to Carrie, bristow, hey how's it going? Good what's up so this is video calling on the JBL Link View here, I can make myself full screen, and Carrie full screen, and now Carrie will tell us a funny joke.

You got this; why was the strawberry set? I don't know because it was stuck in a jam. Oh that's a good one. Hope you have a good night. Yeah, see you later. Yeah, okay, bye bro. That was a pretty good joke, Carrie make sure you guys go and subscribe to her channel as well if you want to learn about lash extensions.

Now unlike the Google Home Hub this does have a camera at the top; it's a 5-megapixel camera so when I made the phone call she was able to answer and see me no problem. I could see her on the screen sometimes you just need to make sure that people understand if they rotate their phone, you can see them a bit better.

If you are in the market for a Smart Display device the Link View is definitely one that I recommend. I really enjoy the sound that this can output; it's probably the best sounding Smart Display that you can get. I'm really happy that it does have the latest software even though it's slightly delayed from the Google product. I'm glad that it has the multi-room audio, the Home View all is there so that's really nice to be able to have that.

So that's really nice to be able to have that like I said the screen wasn't the best that I've seen but overall it does really good colors; it's going to play videos just fine and really shouldn't be a problem there. So if you have any more questions about this, I will leave a link in the description below. You can also ask me in the comments if this is your first time here, I would love to have you subscribe and to see more about what the Smart Display can do.

Make sure you select my videos over here on the side. Thanks so much for watching we'll see you next time.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: entoday i'm going to review the jbl link view and it's amazing sound let's get started hey everybody welcome to tech with brett where i help tech work for you if you own a google home or any google assistant supported device like the jbl link view make sure you hit subscribe below as my channel is all about helping you use these devices better first i want to give a thank you to jbl as they sent this product to me to check out for you guys so that i could do a full review so first let's check out what's inside the box the jbl link view retails at 249 dollars here you can see it has an 8 inch display and then at the top there is a 5 megapixel camera here on the back you do have a shutter for the camera the volume controls and then a mute switch to mute your google assistant so that it cannot hear you and then here we have this nice speaker back here and then here at the bottom you will see the power supply and this is just a simple power cord that powers that all the power supply is built into the actual device so now let's get this set up pretty simple to do all you need to do is download the google home application on your android or your ios device and then make sure you're connected to the network that you want to set up the jbl link view on now if this is your first time setting up a google assistant device make sure you just read through all the different features there's a bunch of things you can connect to your account so that it works really well as soon as you get set up now that you've set up the link view i want to make sure that you understand that your phone isn't directly connected to it anymore you just did the original connection process to connect the link view to your wi-fi now you can leave your house and anyone at home can still use the link view without having to have your phone nearby so this is really great because then they can ask it to play music or movies or things from youtube all by voice next let's talk about the software built into the link view so this runs what's called android things or essentially it's like a google home and a chromecast built into one device so you can use it to activate google assistant with the key wake up words which are and i'm not going to say them because it will activate it but then also it will be able to play music instantly and movies and all kinds of things right from one device now there are a few limitations right now netflix does not work you can't cast to it you can't cast to it by voice but you have the option to go to many of the cast supported applications in your phone like hulu pbs kids youtube anything that casts and casts it to here except for netflix i don't know why it doesn't do that but then you can also have it just play music from like pandora and spotify and youtube music and google play music so it does have access to all of those services now a few things that i want to talk about that this cannot do so on some of the other google home devices it has the option to change the equalizer so changing the base or the treble levels right now this cannot do that i haven't found it in the settings at all another thing that it can't do is it does not have continued conversations so that's when you start talking to the google assistant and you can just keep asking your questions without reactivating it this cannot do that none of the smart displays can either the last thing that the link view does not have that the google home hub has is the ability to connect to a separate bluetooth speaker so because this already has a great sound system i don't think you would need to but in the default speaker settings there is no option to pair to another bluetooth speaker you can still connect this to a default tv so if you always wanted the videos to play to your chromecast you can do that in the settings but there is no option for the bluetooth speaker you can add your phone to this as a bluetooth device so say you have something on your phone you want to play just over bluetooth this will connect with bluetooth you just need to ask it to pair and this does use bluetooth version 4.2 one thing i was waiting for to make this review was the new update that has come to the smart display devices so this now has access to your home control or your home view just by swiping down the top you can quickly change the temperature in the room turn off the lights on and off in one room so here i can just select off it will change the lights in here i can quickly turn them back on just by the top of a finger which is really nice you could also activate and control that room by voice just like you would on your google assistant but that's a new update that has come now with that another update that has come is you can now use multi-room audio with this device and your other google home or smart display devices play my office party playlist on office group okay playing your google play music playlist called office party on office booth the update also allows for the nest hello to display who is at the doorbell when it's rang on the link view and then you can send responses right from the screen just a
