Why the Nintendo 2DS is a Good Idea

**The Nintendo 2DS: A New Direction for Nintendo's Handheld Gaming**

I recently had the opportunity to share my thoughts on the Nintendo 3DS, specifically its relationship with the 2DS. As I delved deeper into the topic, I realized that there were a few key points worth exploring.

Firstly, the price point of $0 for this Holiday season is not bad at all. It's a great way for Nintendo to get their foot in the door and make their new handheld console more accessible to a wider audience. By offering it at no cost, they're essentially making it a loss leader, which can help drive sales of more expensive models.

Secondly, I think Nintendo is targeting this device towards younger gamers. They're not targeting the 2D S towards people like myself who are really really into technology and need the hottest and best thing nowadays. Instead, this is for kids aged 5-12 who are just starting to get into gaming. This makes sense, as Nintendo wants to create a starter DS that can translate these young gamers over time into something more mature and an experience.

This brings me to my third point: I think the 2DS is actually a good idea. Nintendo has been successful with their handheld consoles in the past, and it's hard to argue with that success. They understand the handheld gaming market better than anyone else, and this is just another attempt at innovation. By trying something new, they're showing that they're willing to take risks and adapt to changing times.

One thing that does strike me as a bit weird is the form factor of the 2DS. The non-clamshell design can be a bit awkward, but I think it's worth it for the sake of innovation. Despite this demographic shift, Nintendo PRS is doing something new and that should be commended.

Ultimately, we'll have to wait until January or February to see how the sales of the 2DS go. Will they be successful? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Nintendo is trying something new, and that's always worth watching.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat is up everybody David DeFranco here from D franco.com ask yep there it is that is your open form for sub many questions for future videos such as this one and today's question comes from John Krug I hope I'm saying that right and John says actually John has a website he attached to this question actually it's his Twitter twitter.com regularshow 99 I will link him right below all right so John has asked a very simple question Nintendo just announced the new $130 Nintendo 2DS what are your thoughts okay this is very interesting this is something we definitely did not expect first of all I just want to tackle something Nintendo did drop the Wii U price tag from 350 to 300 which that alone is awesome news for Nintendo and hopefully that'll push some sales this fall especially since it means we'll finally be getting some good games thank you okay so with that aside let's discussed John's question what are my opinions on the 2DS now I got to say nobody saw this coming I mean nobody unless you work at Nintendo obviously I mean when I opened up polygon.com actually I saw it on Twitter first when I got on my Mac yesterday morning and I was like 2DS what the hell why would Nintendo take a product that they've pushed so strongly with the 3D support and strip that feature and call something the 2DS I'm like what I mean I was honestly thinking to myself is this a freaking joke what is Nintendo doing I mean now I know Nintendo is famous for taking one handheld and then literally releasing like five or six versions of that handheld throughout the next I don't know three five seven years I mean look at the DS Light the dsxl all that stuff I mean it gets pretty insane but then again you really can't blame Nintendo because people buy this stuff they really do whether it's the gameplay micro I think think it's what it's called I never bought one of those but those tiny little gam boay micros I actually think that little thing is fascinating I don't need one so I never bought it but I think it looks pretty cool and then of course we have the Nintendo DS a 3DS a 3DS um XL which is pretty nice I still have the original 3DS and I love it the black model and now of course we have the 2DS now for those not aware it's exactly the 3DS but without the 2D functionality but also with a weird form factor it's doesn't close it's not a clam shell form factor why now some people are saying this is Nintendo's way of going after the cheap tablet market and we all know the Nintendo 2DS or 3DS for that matter is not a tablet I mean it has that touchcreen functionality and kind of a web browsing experience that's not really that great in my opinion but still it's not a tablet it does offer apps so maybe that's what Nintendo's going for I mean the fact that it has apps Maybe that means it's a tablet but I don't look at it as a tablet do you but with that aside I do want to explain in this video why I think the 2DS is actually a good idea despite my putting it down in this video and despite the negative press it's getting from all over the place I mean people are tearing this thing up now first of all I got to say the price tag I believe it sells for $130 and guys with the upcoming holiday season and parents looking for things to buy their kids there you go CH Ching for Nintendo $130 that's not a lot of money at all for a video game handheld especially with I mean it plays all your 3DS games and I believe DS games which is over 2,000 titles as of this day so that alone is a huge deal and that could be the biggest selling factor for the 2DS and reason number two it's for kids I think Nintendo is targeting this towards kids they are not targeting the 2D s towards people like myself who are really really into technology and they need the hottest and best thing nowadays now this is for maybe the 5-year-olds 8-year-olds maybe even 10 or 12y olds getting up there and look at this as kind of like a starter DS I mean this will kind of translate those young Gamers over time into something more mature and something more of an experience just a better experience overall and that's the 3DS think of it along the lines of the iPod Touch into the iPhone I mean people start out with the iPod touch right it's exactly like the iPhone 5 nowadays but obviously without the phone functionality to certain regard but when they eventually get old enough and they have a job and they're getting you know money to pay those bills maybe they'll say oh wait I don't need the iPod Touch anymore so I'll buy myself an iPhone because I can afford the bill so that's kind of what Nintendo's going for I think uh so again my two reasons number one3 $0 especially this Halliday season that's not bad at all and number two they're marketing this thing towards younger Gamers and honestly I see no problem with that but again I do have to say that form factor and non clamshell closing thing that got going on it is kind of weird despite their demographic they're going after but still you got to give Nintendo PRS for trying something new in recent memory I can't really remember uh Nintendo failing with a handheld I mean they understand and the handheld gaming Market better than anyone else in this industry and that's a fact so I guess we'll see I mean we'll wait until January February once all the holidays are done we'll see how those sales did uh between November and December and we'll see whether or not the 2DS is a success so those are my thoughts on the 2DS again I give Nintendo props to trying something new is it for me no but is it for many other Gamers out there definitely so thank you very much again John for the great question I love talking about this stuff and now since today
