Recalbox 4.1 Is Out For The Raspberry Pi Odroid XU4 And C2 Plus PC!

My Good Buddy Slappy McPhee Just Informed Me That Recall Box 4.1 Was Officially Released Like Seven Days Ago

I recently found out from my good buddy Slappy McPhee that recall box 4.1 was officially released like seven days ago, and I haven't been keeping up with recall box because I mainly use retro pie. However, this update does look promising for recall box, as it's used by a lot of people, and I used to use it a lot before switching over to retro pie due to its video snaps and other features.

One of the first things that caught my attention in recall box 4.1 is the overclock feature, which allows users to overclock their Raspberry Pi 3 to 1375 MHz or 1.375 GHz, taking advantage of sufficient cooling. After setting the clock, it asks for a reboot. The scraper has also been greatly improved in this update, with better support for image scraping and pulling nice artwork. I was able to scrape all of my images, and they look great.

Before anybody gets too excited, I wanted to test out some systems that really lag on the Raspberry Pi 3 running retropie. First up, I tried an N64 with Double-O-Seven, starting the game with the Game Capture feature. Unfortunately, my Game Capture won't capture the screen when using N64 in recall box, but it runs smoothly at 640x480 resolution. However, my Elgato just won't capture it, so I had to use the camera instead. The game performs well, and I turned up my TV volume so you can hear how it sounds.

Recall box has always done pretty decent with N64 emulation, but this update seems to have improved it a bit more than previous versions. In my opinion, it runs better than it does on retropie, although it's not perfect by any means. Next up, I tried the PSP emulator with Burnout Legends, which is one of the games that really struggles on the Raspberry Pi 3 using the retro pie emulator. Although I was initially excited to see how recall box would perform, unfortunately, it didn't surprise me much in terms of performance.

The only game that I've ever been able to get running well on the PSP emulator using the Raspberry Pi 3 is LittleBigPlanet, which runs perfectly. It's possible that some other games may run fine as well, but those aren't really the games that I'm looking for when testing out recall box. Finally, I tried the Dreamcast emulator with Marvel vs. Capcom 2, a game that I play a lot even though it's not listed as being able to run at full speed in recall box. However, this is not bad at all; it runs smoothly and should be playable.

I'm very surprised that the recast emulator is working well now, especially considering that there are many games that recast isn't going to run well on. The Dreamcast version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, my go-to game for Dreamcast, was able to run without any significant lag or issues, and this is a big surprise.

Overall, I'm really liking recall box 4.1 so far, with the new scraper being a major improvement over previous versions. The overclock feature seems to be working well in 64-bit systems, which runs slightly better than it does on retropie. While not perfect, the Dreamcast emulator is also doing better than expected, and I appreciate the effort that went into making recall box a more viable option for emulation.

If you're interested in trying out recall box 4.1, be sure to check out the link to the changelog in the description below, as well as the link to the recall box website where you can download it and flash it just like you would with retropie. It's worth a shot, especially considering all of the improvements that have been made to this update.
