**A Time of Gratitude and Remembrance**

We come before you today to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for all that You have done in our lives. We acknowledge that we are not worthy, but we thank You anyway because You are good and loving towards us. Thank You that You brought us to a place where we can cross safely without any harm or danger. Thank You that You restrained our enemies and caused us to prosper.

We thank You that You are the Lifegiver and the bringer of hope. We thank You that You are the Restorer, who brings healing to our souls and our bodies. We thank You that when we have wrestled with you till Daybreak, You caused the Son to rise on us again. Thank You, Father, for being our God of Peace.

**Reminders of Upcoming Events**

We want to remind you all about a few very important events happening this week and next month. Our Men's Ministry is being held here at the Lighthouse tomorrow at 7 p.m., as part of Black History Month celebrations. We will be hosting a special service with the Leicester Police Department, and we invite everyone to join us.

Additionally, our district ladies conference, Walk of Faith, will take place from November 1st to 3rd, with services held here at the Lighthouse every night at 7 p.m., starting on Friday. Our guest speaker, Dr. Rema, an international speaker, will be with us for a few days, sharing his message on "Jesus is Jesus, the Son of God or a Prophet". His talks will take place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

**Upcoming Services**

On November 6th, Dr. Rema will speak in the evening service, followed by an outreach event in the city center on Saturday, November 9th, where we will be doing praise and worship, sharing the word of God, and speaking to people about the love of Jesus. We invite everyone to join us for this event, which will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

**The Christmas Box Appeal**

We also want to remind you all about the Christmas Box appeal, part of the Samaritan's Purse project. If you would like to participate in this project, please speak with Reverend Burke or a member of our team, and we will help you with it.

**The Shoe Box Administrative Costs**

For those who are participating in the shoe box project, please remember that there is an administrative cost associated with shipping the boxes. We need your support to cover these costs so that we can continue to distribute the boxes to those in need.

**Being Hosts and Present**

Finally, on Thursday, we will be hosting a very important event at the Lighthouse, which will be the largest Civic Black History Event in the city this year. As hosts, we need to be present to share our message of hope and love with others. We want to make sure that we are all there to represent God's church well.

Let us close our prayer by saying a word of thank You for being a God of Peace. Thank You for bringing Jesus, the Son of God, from the dead. people I understand they're having a great time uh down there and I'm hoping they come back with the fire uh when they return but God is good uh we're in a season and we need the covering of God and there are so many challenges uh that we're facing what we do know is that our God is bigger than any situation uh we know that he is more more more than able he is enough he is enough for your sickness he's enough for your grief is enough for every single child challenge that you could face he is enough and that's why we invite him into our situation because he is enough we're going to be you Father that in the midst of renal failure you are Lord so I thank you for every kidney restored to its rightful function and for the peace that your children will have in the name of Jesus we give you glory thank you Lord thank you thank you Father I thank you right now for diabetes that is about to be changed and for your children who are about to declare that they have been healed because you're in the businesses we give you glory we give you glory and so father we step in and we step into the midst of schizophrenia we step into the midst of anxiety and depression and we step into them knowing that even in these situations you are Lord and so we declare your lordship in the midst of mental ill health we declare your lordship Jes and we declare that they are subject to you and to your Authority so I thank you for lucid and clear thoughts that will return I thank you that the spirit of suicide has been bound up and your children in the name of Jesus in the name of Jesus thank often look and Jacob is one of the biggest conmen going from he was in the womb Jacob was a shady character from In the Womb in fact his name means heel Grabber supplanter because as his as his brother went to come out scripture says that he pulled pulled his foot so that was from the beginning and and to to to those of your parents uh when you're giving your children names be careful with what name you give your children sorry don't let me not get into anybody's business but names are powerful they speak to your future to your destiny they speak to your purpose so Jacob and I'm not going to run through the highlights of the story real quick we all know the story that Jacob robbed his brother Esau of his inheritance his Birthright and he did it with a little bit trickery because that's what Jacob was good at and then because of what he' done he fled and he fled to his uncle who was just as big a con artist as he was now there's an old Jamaican saying it says when two jins meet all headwork stops so he met his m I don't know if his uncle met his match in him and Jacob Jacob had to work twice as hard to get the wife that he wanted there's a message there for somebody okay he had to work twice as hard to get the wife that he wanted I'll leave that way just in the spot he gets his wife and he decides and God says to him it's time to go back you've been out here too long you're where you are right now is not where I intended you to be so it's time to go back so Jacob gets to this place and he knows he has to go back and he wants to go back to the place where God met him and blessed him and listen to this and God promised and made promises to him some of us are struggling because we are so far from the place that God made the promise to us and when God promises the thing I love about God he's not like us Mortals God keeps his word he keeps his promises so Jacob is going back and he says to his family's children PA of your Str strange Gods cuz you're going to a place that I know is Holy so I need you to put off the things that don't belong in a holy place okay I want to pull off the things that don't belong in a holy life okay pastor what you're talking about he said your Idols I need to get rid of them the things that you have picked up from the cultures around you and need you to get rid of them because where you're going they don't have a place in your future okay somebody say work in progress okay so I want to say to somebody the fortune teller leave them where they are stop spending your money on people to Divine for you leave them where they are okay you can't say that Pastor work in progress somebody who is digging in can I can I can I can I use this word I don't care what name they want to give it because they give it all kinds of strange names now but if somebody says you need to pay them for them to sort out what's going on in your life it's obia it's witchcraft whatever n want to give it it's OB it's witchcraft leave it alone it has no place in your future sorry you can't say that Pastor cuz nobody does that there are some things that you are engaging in and you think it's going to bring you relief and ease and peace it won't work if God is not in it all you're doing is paying for your misery and it will leave you miserable and broke so when say work in progress there are things that we have made our idols and we put them in front of God and it can be something like your job I don't want to trouble anybody but let me trouble somebody you prayed and ask God for a job so God in his goodness grants you you a job but now you can't come to church because the job says that you need to I'm sorry you ask God for the job he gives you the job and now God the job is the reason why you can't serve God okay make it make sense okay I'm not troubling anybody cuz I'm on good behavior just somebody say work in progress some of us are trying to outrun our past and there are some things that were way back and out of nowhere they pop up and they're very much in your present and you're trying to pretend they're not there I want challenge you give it to Jesus it's got messy because you tried to do it yourself now give it to Jesus so Jacob knows he's got to meet Esau and he knows that Esau wants to kill him not but Esau wants to kill him but Jacob knows he can't get to where he's supposed to be unless he meets Esau so Jacob says you know what I don't know what destruction Esau is going to wreak on me but I'm going to split my family into two one will go this way one will go that way that if Esau meets with one I've got somebody who will survive and Jacob is left alone I want you to go to verse 10 for me please go back to verse 10 so verse n then Jacob prayed oh god of My Father Abraham God of my father Isaac Lord you who said to me go back to your country and relatives and I will make you prosper hold a minute Jacob is saying God I want to remind you of what you told me I'm not coming with anything else other than what you told me I want you to remind me that I was quite happy to stay over here away from my brother but you said that I need to go back and I'm reminding you that you said if I went back you would cause me to prosper if you let them kill me how can I Prosper I want to I want someone to listen what care for this prayer because there a new fad that I'm not getting okay Jacob said in verse 10 I am on worthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown to your servant is God has been faithful and Jacob is saying I know that you've been good to me I want somebody right now just to lift your hands up and tell God for yourself I know that you've been good to me look how Jacob says and you see too many times we forget just how good God has been listen to this what he says in the next line when I left out of here all I had was a staff was a stick that's all I had when I crossed this Jordan the first time that was all I had but now I have been so blessed that I can split my family into two camps I want somebody to understand you're going through something right now and it seems tough but I want you to recall where you were when God found you how messed up how broken you were he put you back together again and instead of I know I say it before but let me say it again for some of you who came here in the 50s and 60s you came with one grip one grip sorry let me phrase it again you came with one B one small suitcase and all your worldly possessions were in that one suitcase you didn't even have a room oh let me just talk to somebody because I wanted to remind you of the goodness of God I'm told that at times you were hot beding it there were three of you in a room and depending what shift you were working on determine who slept in the bed at that hour you shared about bathroom with how many people in a house somebody a work in progress but God blessed you that now you have a house now you have bathrooms when you're going on your holiday your suitcas is overweight and you don't know what oh come on somebody I want to talk to somebody your wardrobe is bursting out and when you give clothes to charity your wardrobe is still bursting out because God has blessed you you came and you were doing some hard jobs some dirty jobs but your children are now sitting down in clean offices in executive places oh come on somebody no wonder the songwriter cried out when I think of the goodness of Jesus and what he has done for me my soul Cries Out Hallelujah thank God for saving me oh come on I wonder if you remember we weren't all that put together when we weren't all that but when we were at all that God came and found you in your mess and said I have purpose for you you were messed up broken up some of us were people of reputation and it wasn't a good one but God said I have purpose for you so Jacob is coming back rich and I mean rich he's got flocks and herds he has children he had 11 at the time according to the text he's got children he's got flocks Jacob is a rich man but I want you to hear this back in 31 his uncle lean pursues after him and lean is chasing him and God met lean in a dream and God said you're chasing after Jacob but see to it you don't touch him okay can I talk to somebody there are some people who' been pursuing you but God has told them to touch some of you are pursuing some people and God is telling you don't tou there's some messed up things going on and God is saying I've got it in control don't touch let me just behave myself so Jacob now has gone down and let me go back you go back to verses 9 and 10 for me please let me tell you what is really upsetting me at the moment I heard some prayers take place last week not here and somebody said I command you God and there's a trend if you look around where people are commanding and ordering God to do things how can we creatures of dust and dirt command the almighty to do anything and some of us have dropped it into a vocabulary I order I command it doesn't work like that look at Jacob's approach Jacob said I am unworthy I am Unworthy of what you've done for me I'm not worthy of it so I'm coming to you in all humbleness and I'm making a request I'm making a request I'm not giving you an order I'm going to remind you of what you said to me but in reminding you I'm still going to make a request of you I want to challenge you the next time you hear somebody saying they're about to command God shut them down it doesn't work oh but I just love this Paul said but God who is rich in Mercy and love while we were still sinners Christ died for us look at your neighbor said God loves you and if you weren't sure I'm telling you God loves you you know why when we were foolish and ignorant God winked at our ignorance he winked at our foolishness he winked at it he said you know what I know you don't understand so I'm going to have mercy on you okay let me let me come I need to get you to Jabbok so in verse 12 22 and he arose that night and took his two female servants and his 11 took his two wives his two servants and his 11 sons and crossed over the Ford of Jabbok he took them sent them over the brook and sent over what he had I want you to understand something this is key he sent over what he had he sent over his children and his family it is just him without his wealth without his trappings it's just him at a place called Jabbok say to your neighbor everybody's got to get to Jabbok Jabbok is a place of total surrender Jabbok means to empty yourself it meant it emptied itself and because it emptied itself it became a place of Crossing in order to get to where God wants you to be you've got to surrender everything you think that makes you you everything that youve put on your trappings your wealth your hes your Graces everything you've got to surrender and that is jabak and at Jabbok you see there are many Crossings in scripture and I want to I want to run with you real quick I don't want to labor you you see when they crossed the Red Sea they crossed as a multitude right so when you cross your Red Sea you're going with a mighty host Redemption when they crossed Jordan it was a victorious Army but when you're Crossing Jabbok it's just you when you get to the place of surrender it doesn't matter who hasn't surrendered because for you to cross you have to surrender and Jacob got to Jabbok am I pronouncing it right Professor somebody says yabok yab thank you off I'll read what verse 24 said so Jacob was left alone oh somebody can I talk to the person who's there John was left alone I want you to call your name out I was left alone and the man wrestled with him notice he had to get to that place to be in a place that he was wrestling and we know what scripture says he wrestled all night that means for where you are the thing that you're fighting with it might be your night it might be the deepest darkest place that you've ever been before but wrestle he wrestled and he wrestled and the thing I love about this passage of scripture is about the persistence that Jacob had and said when the man saw that he could not overpower him he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man some of you are going to have to go through some serious discomfort to get to the place where God has dealt with you and your situation the comfortableness the ease with which you have tried to live your life isn't working because you're still bound you're still in a place of mess but God says I need you to wrestle and as Jacob began to wrestle I wonder if you're getting ready to come with me into the verse that you all know the man said let me go for it's Daybreak but Jacob replied I want you to read it for me I want you to read it out loud for me Jacob replied I need somebody who is in that place I will not let you go unless you bless me oh come on somebody you've been fighting too long it's time to clear if you're old mou I will not let you go until you bless me I'm not about to give up yes I might be in pain yes I've been through some rough times yes I've been through some hard places but I'm not about to let you go job put it another way job said V he slay me yet will I trust him Hallelujah that means even if it kills me I'm not going to let you go everybody else has gone but I'm not about to let you go my wealth has gone cuz it's on the other side I'm not about to let you go but my wealth means nothing unless I cross this with you let me get controversial my family means nothing unless I cross this with you somebody say work in progress you see Jacob without God is useless to his family oh Pastor you getting Troublesome now I want to tell someone Us in here today without God you have no effect to your family because you're broken you're messed up you're lost without God oh let me calm myself down I want to talk to somebody who went to fth Back in the Day family training hour family challenge Philippians 4:13 Paul says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me you want your family to be better through Christ you want your job to be better through Christ you want your finances asked him what is your name and Jacob had to answer with his name Jacob had to answer and tell the man I'm a con man I'm a trickster I'm a supplanter I'm a usurper that is who I am when you get to God you cannot hide from God who you are he knows absolutely everything there is to know about you but what he wonders is if you will be honest enough to say God this is where I'm at God I'm messed up God I'm broken God I'm hopeless God I'm lost that's who I am I recognize who I am and look what happens that is no longer your name oh come on somebody that is no longer your name I want somebody who understands that you used to be in a place where they thought of you as less than what you are and God says that's not your name somebody who your family might not have been all that good God said that is not your name some of us we used to F steal cheat God said that is not your name some of us we used to backbite and under mind God said that is not your name some of us were just bitter God said that's not your name some of us were full of envy and Malice and greed God said that is not your name look at your neighbor and say I got a new name he said your name long be called Jacob but Israel and that means Prince of God oh somebody somebody I want you to look at yourself I don't know how you're going to do it and look at yourself can talk to yourself and tell yourself I got a new name I want to hold your hand in your face and talk to the hand cu the face doesn't want to know talk to the hand talk to the hand I've got a new name I'm a Child of God I'm an heir and a joint air with Jesus Christ I used to be a child of Wrath but now I'm a child of the king oh am I tell you to talk to the hand you see this hand we have used it for so many things that were not of God this hand has been quick to do so many things that didn't belong to God we now need to talk to the hand and tell the hand now oh somebody you know hearing me talk to the hand and say now you will do you will do the things of God the things of God now now you will act you will in line with God God I've got a new name in the name of Jesus in the name of Jesus and Jacob wrestled and he held on he held on and he called the place pel because I've seen the face of God lived I wonder I want somebody I just want to take this I'm going to close out I've seen the face of God and lived what does that mean when I got into God's presence he didn't kill me I got into his presence and I didn't die oh one of you hearing me some of you have been fighting getting into presence of God so been fighting into God's will because you think that you're going to end up in a place that is worse than where you are at Jacob said when he got into the presence of God he lived Jacob became Israel he became a prince prince God says I want to make you royalty that's what I'm trying to do to you I'm trying to make you blessed I'm trying to make you into a place that all the things you tried to do by yourself when I am with you if you thought you were Rich before I will make you richer if you were poor before I will make you rich but when God takes anything he makes it better oh I just want to go back to school for some of you just one more time one more time good better best never let it rest until your good has become better and your better the only way your good can become better and your better become best is when you're in in Jesus Christ because he is the author and the finisher of your faith he is the one who turns you around he is the one who makes you better and so what we covered from Genesis if you're looking for forgiveness it only comes by the mercy of God God bless his perseverance don't give up our identity is not in us it's not what everybody has given to us our identity is in Christ God desires for us to know him intimately in other words you got to know him for yourself if you really want to get close to God humble yourself and when you get into his presence and you've encountered God you will be blessed your name your situation will be changed it says he was made lame you know what that means when you get into his presence you can't run from him again you can't run from him again why because you don't need to run from him again because in his presence there is fullness of joy and at his right hand there are Pleasures forever more will you stand with me please I just want you to Bow your heads I want to speak to somebody who is at Jabbok you're at the place of surrender surrender you need Jesus not for anybody else but for yourself you need to be in a place where you have surrendered everything to him and he will restore I want to invite you this morning if there's somebody who's saying I need Jesus for myself everybody bow your heads and if that's you international speaker and he will be here for a few days the theme is Jesus is Jesus the son of God or a prophet so that's Wednesday the 6th of November at 700 p.m. Thursday the 7th of November at 700 p.m. and Sunday the 10th of November at 11: as well 11:00 a.m. we have a baptismal service on the 17th of November and that's Sunday also in November we have a financial conference and it's taking place on Wednesday the 27th of November at 7 p.m. at the light house and lastly if you wish to participate in the Christmas Box appeal that's part of the Samaritans purse please do see reverent Burke
