**NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Review: A Mid-Tier Graphics Card**

I recently had the opportunity to review the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti, a mid-tier graphics card that has been gaining popularity among gamers and enthusiasts alike. In this review, I'll share my experience with the card's performance, overclocking capabilities, and value for money.

**Performance at 1080p Medium Settings**

When playing games at 1080p medium settings, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the GTX 780 Ti handled most games with ease. In Battlefield 5, a high preset at DirectX 11 resulted in approximately 60 frames per second, making it a smooth gaming experience. However, when looking at footage recorded at lower settings, I noticed that the frame rate dropped to around 50 FPS, which is still playable but not ideal.

In Escape from Tarkov, I was impressed by how well the card handled the game at medium settings. Although it occasionally dipped below 50 FPS, it remained stable and playable. This experience showed that the GTX 780 Ti can handle demanding games at lower settings without too much struggle.

**Shadow of the Tomb Raider: A Surprising Performance**

When playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I was surprised to find that the card handled the game better than I expected. Using the same settings as before, I achieved around 50 frames per second in this beautiful and demanding game. This showed that the GTX 780 Ti is capable of handling high-performance games with ease.

**Metro Exodus: A Struggle**

However, when playing Metro Exodus, the GTX 780 Ti struggled the most. Even at normal settings, which are considered the lowest performance level, the card had trouble keeping up with the game's demands. This led me to believe that the GTX 780 Ti may not be the best choice for fans of this game.

**Overclocking: A Limitation**

When it comes to overclocking, I found that the GTX 780 Ti has some limitations. Even with aggressive overclocking, I was only able to achieve a stable +45°C boost on the core and +400MHz increase in memory. This resulted in an extra 2 FPS in Battlefield 5 but also caused the card to crash in Escape from Tarkov.

**Cooler Issues: A Bottleneck**

I believe that the cooler is a major bottleneck for overclocking the GTX 780 Ti. The air cooler, while stylish and attention-grabbing, failed to keep up with the card's increased temperatures during extreme overclocking. This led me to wonder if an aftermarket liquid cooling solution would be more effective in unlocking the card's full potential.

**Value for Money**

Considering its performance and features, I think the GTX 780 Ti is overpriced at around $700-$800 USD. For that price, you can get a much better GPU like the RX 580 or RX 480, which use less power and offer more VRAM. If you're looking to build a budget gaming rig, I'd recommend opting for one of these alternatives.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, I really enjoy the GTX 780 Ti's design and attention to detail. However, its performance is not without its limitations, particularly when it comes to overclocking and cooling. While it handles most games well at lower settings, it may struggle with demanding titles like Metro Exodus. Overall, I think this card offers good value for those who want a reliable mid-tier GPU, but it's essential to weigh the pros and cons before making a purchase decision.

**Recommendations**

* If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, consider the RX 580 or RX 480 instead.

* For enthusiasts who want to overclock their GPU, consider using an aftermarket liquid cooling solution.

* If you're building a gaming rig and can't decide on a GPU, I recommend researching the GTX 1080 Ti or RTX 2070 for better performance.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the Asus GTX 780 Ti matrix platinum the only thing more ridiculous than its name is the card itself so let's talk about a graphics card so hardcore it pierced its own nibbles I'm gonna be honest with you here I was a little bit aroused when I saw one of these for sale on Craigslist in my local area in pristine condition this is a graphics card that Asus designed from the ground up to break overclocking world records the thing is though the highest core clock ever achieved on a GTX 780 Ti was actually not on one of these beasts but on an EVGA kingpin variant which is a little bit embarrassing for asus but it's still a badass card it's got matrix in the name so it has to be good physically this graphics card is a thing of beauty as far as the cooler goes it's got this fan with a pretty interesting design in the center which is supposed to direct air flow in different directions and do better cooling the heatsink is actually painted black which is not only the coolest color but I've actually never seen that on a graphics card heatsink before and I think it's a really nice touch it looks very good on the back it's got a metal backplate which actually prevents GPU sag amazingly considering the size of this card one thing that I love about this graphics cards design is that it is very modular and it's easy to get access to everything you only need to remove four screws to remove the heatsink you can remove two extra screws to take off the plastic shroud around the heatsink and then both of the fans are also very easily removable so that you can clean them easily or replace them if they die somewhere down the line which is really cool when you have a closer look at the PCB this is clearly a big PP graphics card just look at that vrm it is a fourteen phase vrm asus seems to be using an eight phase-- controller here which they're using in a six plus two phase configuration with double errs on the six GPU phases as far as capacitors goes they use super alloy powers 12 K Japanese black metallic capacitors which sound pretty impressive it's also got concrete core chokes and a bunch of other very high quality components to have the maximum overclocking capability when moving over to the front of the graphics card there's also quite a lot going on here you have a molex power connector which could provide supplemental power if the to eight pins isn't enough or it may also be for the memory defroster that's built in which pretty much eliminates cold bugs and is really good for ln2 overclocking there's a safe mode button which is essentially like a hard button for a V bios reset which again is useful for overclocking and then it also has some voltage read points suppose the Asus also hand-picked the GPUs for these cars just for maximum overclocking Headroom if none of this means anything to you basically shit's dope after tearing the graphics card down I did give it a good clean I did reap aced it and put new thermal pads under the vrm cooling all of this was so easy to do it's like the opposite of a founders edition graphics card after having a look at the build quality of this graphics card it's clear that it's a big middle finger to compromise the thing is though Nvidia did kind of sneak in their tendrils of compromise with this graphics card it only has three gigs of DDR 5 video memory which by today's standards is very little and even when it was launched wasn't that much and it's all a bit suspicious considering the fact that there was actually a six gig version of the GTX 780 now it could have been argued that Nvidia didn't release a six gig version of the 780 Ti because that could potentially have cannibalized their Titan in sales so even though asus tried their little hearts out there's still a bit of compromise now that we've finished looking at the graphics card going let's see how it performs in modern titles now I'm gonna do my standard test suite of games but I have dropped in a couple of more demanding modern titles to see how this card handles for a lot of these games this graphics card performs very well I was actually surprised at its pop G performance at 1080p high settings that's pretty good that's very playable I mean when did pop G become reasonably well optimized that this this is news to me when moving over to battlefield 5 at 1080p a high preset at DirectX 11 you're getting just about 60 frames per second however the footage that you're looking at now was actually recorded at medium settings and here you're getting a reasonably high frame rate and it's still very playable when it comes to escape from tarkov I didn't put it in the benchmarks because it's very difficult to get repeatable results on the game but at 1080 P medium settings it was running very well I'm actually surprised at how while it handles the game it did occasionally dip below about 50 fps but still a 1080p gaming this thing is holding up well when it comes to shadow of the Tomb Raider it actually handled it a lot better than I thought it was going to I wasn't even being nice to it I used the same settings that I use for all modern graphics cards when I test that game and you're getting about 50 frames per second in a very beautiful game Metro Exodus is the game that the GTX 780 Ti struggled with the most although it is a metro game and they are known to be destroyer of worlds even when dropping it down to normal settings which is the lowest settings I'd recommend using in the game a lot of the parts were still very unplayable so yes if you're a metro fan it didn't hold up that well all in all I'd say it held up decently although it's not a massive surprise considering that this was a $700 flagship graphics card not that long ago now that we've had a look at the stock out of the box gaming performance you get from this card in 2020 let's see how much we can overclock it by considering that that is literally the entire reason it exists it's not looking great here though it's already fairly aggressively overclocked out of the box and it means that there wasn't much I could do the max I could get stable even briefly was plus 45 on the poor and plus 400 on the memory and that gave us an extra 2 average FPS in battlefield 5 which yeah that's not looking great and when playing escape from tarkov it would just crash it couldn't handle it yeah so this testament to overclocking behemoths 3 can't really overclock that well but I think that has a lot to do with the cooler and thermal issues if you put an Ellen to pot on here you could get a pretty substantial overclock let me know if you want me to do a follow-up video where I attach like an i schooled a io to this bad boy and see how much extra Headroom we can get out of it because I mean yeah the air cooler I think is the big limiting factor here at the moment when it comes to value for money just for gtx 780 Ti is in general let me know what you think in the comment section below I paid 150 Canadian dollars for this card which is about a hundred and ten USD I was looking on Craigslist and the lower end of Buy It Now prices for 780ti s was it about two hundred Canadian dollars which translates to around 150 USD for that amount I wouldn't recommend it for people that are trying to get like a budget gaming rig together I'd rather aim for something like an rx 580 or 480 it would use a lot less power meaning you don't have to worry too much about what power supply you pair it with and you have more vram and stuff like that but again let me know what you think in the comments below in conclusion I really like this graphics card I think it is beautifully made I love the attention to detail on the PCB and the cooler and all of that and yeah I would actually really like to check out like a modern Asus matrix Platinum card there is a 20 atti version of this but I'd be more interested in the next generation matrix Platinum maybe one day I can get my hands on one of those 10 years down the line again for a hundred and ten US dollars but yeah awesome graphics card thank you very much for watching if you enjoyed this video like and subscribe to
