How To Design Your DREAM HOME _ Steal Her Stylist

Creating a Mood Board for a Bathroom Renovation Project

When it comes to designing a bathroom renovation project, one of the most important steps is to create a mood board. A mood board is a visual representation of your design ideas and can be a powerful tool in helping you decide on the look and feel of your new space. In this article, we'll explore how to create a mood board for a bathroom renovation project using software like Picasa.

Gathering Materials and Inspiration

The first step in creating a mood board is to start gathering materials and inspiration. This can include objects such as faucets, vanities, and flooring samples. You should also collect images of the different finishes that will be used in your space, such as paint colors, countertops, and lighting fixtures. It's also important to consider the overall aesthetic you want to achieve with your bathroom renovation project, including the style, color scheme, and materials.

Using a Mood Board Software

There are several software options available for creating mood boards, including Picasa, Canva, and PicMonkey. For this example, we'll be using Picasa. The process of creating a mood board in Picasa is relatively straightforward. Simply start by uploading your images and objects to the software, then begin arranging them on a virtual canvas. You can use the software's tools to resize, rotate, and manipulate the images as needed.

Play with Different Combinations

Once you have all of your materials and inspiration gathered, it's time to start playing with different combinations. This is where the magic happens, and you get to see how different elements work together in your space. Don't be afraid to experiment and try out new things – this is a judgment-free zone! You can use the software to swap out images, change colors, or add new objects to create different looks.

Presenting Your Design

Once you have a few design options that you like, it's time to present them to your client. This is where the real magic happens, and you get to see if your designs are something that they'll love in their own space. Be sure to bring along color samples, flooring samples, and any other materials that will help to bring the design to life.

Real-Life Applications

The mood board can be used in a variety of ways throughout the renovation process. For example, you may want to create a mood board specifically for your client's bathroom, or one for your own home. You can also use a mood board to plan out future projects, such as a new kitchen or living room.

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips and tricks for creating an effective mood board:

* Don't be afraid to think outside the box – this is a judgment-free zone!

* Use colors that you love – they'll help set the tone for your entire design.

* Bring along as many samples as possible – it's always better to have too many options than not enough.

Renovation Update: A Bathroom Renovation Project

As part of our renovation project for Cindy's home, we're currently working on designing her bathroom. We've been using the mood board software to create a visual representation of our design ideas, and we're excited to share some updates from the process.

Demo Day

Today was demo day, and we're making great progress. The old tile has been removed, and we're starting to install new plumbing fixtures. It's exciting to see the space come along – but it's also a lot of work!

Flooring Samples

We've also been gathering flooring samples, including this gorgeous hexagon pattern that will go down in the bottom of the shower. We're absolutely loving the way it looks – and we think you'll love it too.

Laundry Room Update

In addition to Cindy's bathroom, we're also working on her laundry room. The raw Chevron flooring is going to be a stunning feature – but we can already tell that it's not for everyone. That being said, we can't wait to share the finished product with you!

Designing Your Dream Space

As someone who has struggled to design your dream space in the past, I know how difficult it can be to get started. But don't worry – creating a mood board is a great way to start. By gathering materials and inspiration, using software like Picasa to create a visual representation of your design ideas, and playing with different combinations until you find something that works, you'll be well on your way to creating a space that truly reflects your style and vision.

Stay tuned for more updates from our renovation project – we can't wait to share the finished product with you!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwe're gonna head back to my office and let's talk about finishes and please lighting cuz oh my god no one over the age of 12 but shouldn't be seen in lighting so just pretend that those sprinkles aren't there or the we're lighting like yeah nobody looks good in this lighting so fluorescent lighting has to go we need to make this space amazing so it lon hi welcome to the house of Valentina I'm Valentina and today we are not working on my own project we are working on a client's project a lot of times I'm not getting to share all the background of how we've created a project and you guys are always asking for those tips so I thought you know what we are literally demoing this house why don't we backtrack for just a minute you guys so today whether you are working on your own project or you're working on a project for a client I think that these tips and tricks will be really helpful for creating a space that's all your own and actually choosing the right material our number one tip is to acknowledge whether you are working for yourself or you are working for a client acknowledging that there is some sort of issue whether it's been forced upon you because something has flooded or you've had a natural disaster or you've just realized that everything is corroded if it's falling apart or you just don't like the style there's that moment in which we must acknowledge that what is there is not working and sometimes if it can be the hardest part because a lot of times we just want to pretend like it's gonna be just fine we try to get by I know sometimes if it's a natural disaster a lot of you guys write me and you're saying you know you've had a fire or you had some sort of flood you're not really getting a choice so designs being forced upon you but what it's not being absolutely forced upon you making that decision to jump in and acknowledging that what is there is not working it's probably the hardest part of any project because we all try to get by they do it's it's an investment of our money and not very many of us just flip utley decide to spend you know thirty thousand dollars on a bathroom innovation we need some time we need to make sure that our dollars are gonna matter where we're putting them and so number one thing that we have to do is we have to acknowledge that we want something different and what we have is not working once we've acknowledged that we can move straight on to these other tips and really start diving into creating a design that is uniquely yours and same for if you're designing for your client you want to create something that is so them to pay invite you back to do more spaces because you have touched a place inside of themselves that they could not discover and you can do that for yourself as well if you're working on your phone project tip number two is to understand your client or yourself when you're creating a design it is so important to understand who it is that this project is being designed for you cannot just flippantly follow trends and go and see what the latest thing is and just plug it into your house because you or your client are just not necessarily gonna be happy when you create something that's so uniquely designed for yourself or for your client you tap into their inner psyche and I know that sounds so deep and you know oh but it is really important to really understand who it is that you're designing for so some of the things that I asked my clients are what kind of extracurricular activities do you like to do so if I was designing for someone who loves to do yoga and goes out into the woods all the time loves to hide creating a super sleek glossy overly shiny design there's gonna be some disconnect here unless there's some other factor here that dictate that this person likes that so we're gonna dive deep into who they are and really try to understand what really makes them tick sometimes asking what they do for a living is a really good clue sometimes it's not because sometimes people aren't doing a job that they really love and that's just part of life and so I'm always trying to find out it do you love your job do you love what you do what do you do work what do you like to eat kind of restaurants do you like to go to and all those little things are massive clues into what the person is going to really really like I also look at the exterior the home I also like to understand who the person is as far as their mood I clearly as you can tell from my office I love dark moody spaces I also love punches of light ethereal bright spaces as well so I am a juxtaposition I am hard to understand right and every person has that about them they may like some moodiness but then they're craving light and trying to understand the mood that they want to experience when they walk into that space is hugely important I like to try to figure out what colors they're drawn to some people love gray and other people hate it and some people are somewhere in the middle and they don't really care they don't crave that punch they don't crave that super super neutral and when we find this sort of asking these sort of questions really helps us to understand where they are on color mood and we just start drawing in all these little factors to be able to create a cohesive design for them my client first of all she owns a house that is set in a very wooded setting it looks like a like it's got that woody feel on the outside it's wood cedar it's got a really great everything about it it's so nature driven and outdoorsy she said that her boyfriend loves to go fishing and she loves to go on hikes she loves greens and really rich purples and she loves lots of wood so we're just trying to really tap into her style and really understand what makes her tick you know it's funny because she works in an IT job and she's on a computer a lot and so technology was something that was a factor for her but we definitely don't want to give her something that's too tech-driven so having maybe some gadgets and some fun things will definitely be something that we're going to include in this project but the atmosphere is all about escaping and being outdoors the next step that I do is to create a Pinterest board back in the day I really loved being able to tear out magazine sheets and put up fabrics and all those kinds of things but today nowadays Pinterest and it's such a it's such a great accessible way to create a mood board for somebody whether you're doing it for yourself or for a client it's just a really good way of being able to very quickly pull together from the entire world essentially and when I'm creating these Pinterest boards for my clients I always label them so first is labelled modern Lodge I always make those Pinterest boards public because I want you guys to be able to get on there and see what we are up to and I see that a lot of you will pin those items some of you will click through and purchase something for your own project it's a great tool and it's a great tool for you if you're thinking about your own project but it's also really good for a client because it's an easy way to present the mood the atmosphere the colors all the ideas that are kind of floating around in our heads we put them into one spot and I never when you're creating these Pinterest boards don't just pin back rooms that you like you can pin maybe a couple bathrooms that you see that you're like oh I like this element I like that element but draw from kitchens or bedrooms draw in images of for her because we're working on a modern lodge there's there's woods there's sayings about going hiking there's atmospheric things things that really capture the essence of what she wants to feel so it's warm fuzzy sweaters and it's hiking boots and it's all these kinds of things that create the atmosphere in the ambience of her pod it really is all-encompassing and this is a huge tool so once I presented this to my client she absolutely loved this board and what I was able to do while I showed her the board is we could go through and see what really jumped out to her what really excited her what she just literally glossed over and was irrelevant to her and I kept seeing these trends she was really drawn to green she really loved neutrals she really loved dark wood all these kinds of things that I kind of thought that in my head we're gonna work but this was just confirmation the next thing that we do is we create an actual mood board for the project so we are gathering actual things we've measured the space we've talked about what's possible within it and now we're actually gathering things that can actually be used within the space so this is a mood board that I create on a software called Picasa but you can use canva I think PicMonkey is another one you basically just want to start pulling objects objects for her at the bathroom so we're talking about the vanity we're talking about faucets we're talking about all the finishes that are gonna go into this space and we start gathering them all together and actually creating a collage of items it's really useful because you can see right away oh that vanity color doesn't go with that rug that I was thinking oh this brass doesn't work at all with this modern Lodge feel oh let's definitely do iron she really likes fire okay let's see how does that look with this vanity is that vanity even available yes that's that's what we start doing at this point we want to bring in things that we can actually present to the client and show her this is what your bathroom can actually look like we play the paint colors we start playing with flooring options we start with all those finishes and just mixing things up trying different combinations until we find something that it's just like oh this is so good so that is what I will then present to the client and when I presented this she loved it the next step is to start gathering the actual materials sometimes they're coming from very far away and sometimes they're right up the street so I'll show you what present I have a collection of of colors so we're not picking the exact color for her walls right now because she's not ready for that we need to be able to get in there we're putting a window into this space we're changing up all the lighting we're doing a lot of stuff so I'm not picking the actual color for the wall at this point but we're creating the mood so I get color samples I get flooring samples and see if I can show you these sorry it's so bright in here I pulled flooring samples this is a hexagon that's gonna go down in the bottom of the shower we're also working on a laundry room for her so I'll show you've got this insane raw Chevron flooring oh my gosh isn't this just gorgeous this is actually the same material that I put on my own bathroom floor and I love it because it feels so chalky and like limestone and it's just oh this feels so good underneath your feet I cannot wait to be able to share this entire renovation project with you oh it's gonna be so beautiful and it's not gonna take too long because my guys are there today and they are finishing up demo we're not only doing a bathroom for Cindy we're also doing a laundry room and a second guest powder room so we've got a lot to share there's a lot coming I thought this would be a really fun way to chat about how to get from I have no idea what I want - Wow I created the exact space dream space of my life and so I hope you guys will find it useful let me know in the comment section if you were excited about this type of video this is something that you're like finally why isn't she been doing these videos before or if you're like just get to the renovation woman I don't care how you did it be kind be nice but please do leave a comment and let me know if you are excited about any of these tips if you're already using some of them or if you have your own tip or trick that you use when creating a space that you really really love over and client as well so write that down in the comment let me know also be sure to visit look forward to hearing from you guys and oh my gosh don't forget hit subscribe give me a thumbs up yeah don't forget those yes okay all right any that's it we'll see you guys dude and bye-bye I'm so much less dramatic than using the sledgehammer much faster clean up though so you can't really blame them on that one but it's not looking better already stupid bleepwe're gonna head back to my office
