Top 5 Free Windows Programs

**Top Five Free Windows Applications**

In this article, we will discuss five free Windows applications that every user should have on their computer. These applications are essential for keeping your computer running smoothly and securely.

**CCleaner: A Comprehensive Cleaning Tool**

One of my favorite features of CCleaner is its ability to easily choose what programs you want to run when you first turn on your computer. This is a big deal, as many computers get slow due to installing too many programs that automatically load in the background. With CCleaner, you can simply open it up and pick out which programs you want to automatically start when you boot up your computer. Additionally, CCleaner will take care of getting rid of temporary files and other junk that can slow down your computer.

CCleaner also includes a Registry Cleaner, although I generally do not recommend using these features unless absolutely necessary. However, for those who need them, CCleaner's registry cleaner is certainly an option. The software also allows you to easily choose what programs you want to run when you first turn on your computer, making it a valuable tool for keeping your computer running smoothly.

**VLC Media Player: A Versatile Audio and Video Player**

One of the first programs I always install when I first boot up Windows is VLC media player. This software allows you to play pretty much any audio or video file you can find. Whether you need to watch a YouTube video, play an MP4 file, or convert one to another format, VLC has got you covered. The program also runs with hardware acceleration and has many other nice features as far as playback is concerned.

I have found that VLC is particularly useful when it comes to playing back videos quickly. Unlike some other media players, which can take a long time to load up or buffer, VLC is able to play back most video files without any issues. The program also allows you to convert your video files from one format to another, making it a valuable tool for anyone who needs to work with different types of video content.

**Microsoft Security Essentials: Free Antivirus Software**

When it comes to antivirus software, there's no reason to pay a lot of money for some supposedly great program when you can have Microsoft Security Essentials, which is completely free. This antivirus software does an excellent job of keeping your computer clean and secure, automatically updating itself in the background so you don't have to worry about it.

One of the best things about Microsoft Security Essentials is that it's not a big drain on system resources, unlike some other antivirus programs I've seen. It also has advanced security features that are hard to find in more expensive programs. Whether you're looking for antivirus software or just want to try out a new program, I highly recommend taking a look at Microsoft Security Essentials.

**TrueCrypt: Advanced File Encryption**

If you're looking for something to keep your files secure and safe, I highly recommend using TrueCrypt. This software allows you to encrypt all of your files, including your entire system disk or specific folders that you want to protect. The encryption is very advanced and makes it extremely difficult for anyone without the password to access your files.

While TrueCrypt can be a bit confusing to use, especially when it comes to mounting and selecting your files, the end result is well worth the effort. If you're looking for a way to keep your files secure and private, TrueCrypt is definitely worth considering.

**Superar Monitor: A Small but Useful Utility**

One final application that I want to mention is Superar Monitor, which can be found on the bottom left of the taskbar in Windows 7. This small utility allows you to see what's going on with your CPU load without having to pull up a widget or open Task Manager. While it may not seem like a big deal at first, I've found that this little application has been incredibly useful for me.

Unfortunately, Superar Monitor is only available in Windows 7, so if you're using a different version of Windows, you won't be able to use this utility. However, if you do have Windows 7 and are looking for a way to monitor your CPU load without having to pull up additional windows or widgets, I highly recommend checking out Superar Monitor.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, these five free Windows applications are essential tools that every user should have on their computer. Whether it's CCleaner for cleaning up temporary files and registry cleaners, VLC media player for playing back audio and video files, Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus software, TrueCrypt for advanced file encryption, or Superar Monitor for monitoring CPU load, these programs can help keep your computer running smoothly and securely.
