Creating a Wireless Charging Stand: A Step-by-Step Guide
One of the most convenient features to have in a home is a wireless charging stand that can hold your phone while it charges wirelessly. In this article, we will show you how to create one using basic DIY tools and materials.
The First Step: Measuring and Cutting Out the Base
To start creating our wireless charging stand, we need to measure out the size of the base. We want to make sure that it's large enough to hold our phone comfortably, but not so big that it takes up too much space on our table or desk. To achieve this, we can use a piece of plywood and measure out a square that is slightly larger than the charging dock.
We will use a jigsaw to cut out a hole in the center of the plywood, creating a square shape with a circular hole in the middle. This will give us enough room for our charging dock to sit under comfortably. We also want to make sure that the base is large enough to fit over our table or desk, so we can use a jigsaw and drill to create four holes around the edge of the plywood.
The Hole Cutting Process
To cut out the hole in the center of the plywood, we will use a combination of a jigsaw and a drill. First, we will drill a hole that is the size of our jigsaw blade, which will serve as a guide for cutting out the square shape. We will then connect the holes using the jigsaw, creating a smooth edge around the circular hole.
Once we have cut out the square shape, we can use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges and make sure everything is even. This is an important step, as we want our wireless charging stand to be safe and functional.
Adding the Charging Dock
After cutting out the square shape, we will mark out a circle on the plywood using a pencil or marker. The size of the circle will depend on the size of our charging dock, but it should be slightly larger than the actual size of the dock. We can use a circular saw or handsaw to cut out the circle.
Next, we will attach a piece of quarter-inch plywood to the top of the square shape using wood glue and short screws. This will provide a solid surface for our wireless charging pad to sit on.
Creating the Wireless Charging Pad
To create the wireless charging pad, we will need to attach a metal plate to the bottom of the plywood base. We can use a jigsaw to cut out four small squares at each corner of the plywood base, which will serve as anchors for the metal plates. We will then screw the metal plates into place using short screws.
Adding a Bottom Plate
To complete the wireless charging pad, we will need to add a bottom plate that will hold our phone in place while it charges wirelessly. This can be done by cutting out a small square of plywood and attaching it to the bottom of the base using wood glue and short screws.
Assembling the Stand
Once we have created all the components of our wireless charging stand, we can assemble them together. We will attach the charging dock to the top of the base using short screws, making sure that it is securely attached.
Finally, we will add a clear coat of stain or paint to protect the wood and give it a nice finish. This will make our wireless charging stand look professional and stylish, and ensure that it lasts for years to come.
Adding Markers for Placement
To prevent accidental placement of our phone on different parts of the stand, we can add small markers around the edges of the plywood base. These markers should be subtle but still noticeable, so that we can easily place our phone in the correct position every time.
Finishing Touches
The final step is to reattach the backing plate and metal plates to complete our wireless charging stand. We can then test it out by placing our phone on the stand and watching as it charges wirelessly.
Conclusion
Creating a wireless charging stand using basic DIY tools and materials is easier than you might think. With these simple steps, you can create a functional and stylish charging station that will make your life easier. Whether you're looking to charge your phone while working from home or just want to keep your desk organized, this project should be a great starting point.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey can I charge my phone sure it's not that one you have the newer one of that one I think it's a gray you have hey can I charge my phone yeah no problem Thanks reasons why you need a wireless phone charging table hi everyone my name is Kelsey I'm sorry hi everyone my name is Kelsey from the sorry girls and today we are going to make a wireless charging table if you guys don't know what these are they sell them in stores they sell them at IKEA I haven't really seen a really cute one so we're going to take a wireless charging pad actually hook me up with that wireless charging pod so we're gonna be taking one of these wireless charging pad that can get off Amazon for about 20 bucks and hide it in a table so that you'll have this seamless invisible wireless charging table so there are some phones I can natively use wireless charging but if your phone isn't one of those phones you can easily buy a little add-on accessory that will turn your phone into a wireless charging phone this is just gonna be amazing first up you have your wireless charging pad and we also picked up this table from Ikea for eighteen dollars us pretty good steel it's gonna be the base of our table for the super chic looking and inexpensive and something that we can upcycle into our wireless charging table so we assembled our table but we're actually not gonna use this top piece so guess what you just scored yourself a tray for somewhere else in your apartment or loft or home or workplace but we are gonna use this to trace out our wood so some materials that I picked up from the hardware store from this project we're a 1/2 inch piece of plywood and a quarter inch piece of plywood so this piece of plywood is actually going to be the base and then this is gonna go on top if you're looking at quality of plywood make sure that this one is like nice for the outside and this one can be a little bit rougher if you want to save some money there and the size of these only need to be as big as the circle top part of your table or whatever table you're building it just needs to be that size so the first thing I'm going to do is take my tray from the IKEA table and trace out this circle onto my plywood just like in a rough estimate of the size of my tabletop we should make store girls pencils okay so I have my circle drawn out on my half inch plywood so the next step is to actually to cut out a space or the charging dock to sit under and we're just gonna make sure that we're doing this the same size of the charging docks of the charging dock and fit nicely in there I want to do this kind of off to the side so that if you have other things on your table your phone can be off to the side charging just roughly mark this out since we're creating a hole in the middle of our plywood and not coming in from an edge we have to use a couple different tools so to do this we're going to use a jigsaw and a drill so we're going to drill a hole that is the size of our jigsaw blade so that we can get our jigsaw in there we're gonna drill four holes and then connect the holes using my jig saw so that we cut out a square Wow so I have my square cut out of my circle here and let's just surely just make sure this fits my charging dock oh yes it works looks great I'm just going to give everything a quick sand so there's no sharp edges everything's handed in before I put on my quarter inch ply I actually want to cut it out to size so that it's a similar size as my circle mark that out you can do this with a circular saw or a handsaw or you can actually get this done at the hardware store as well you just want to keep your scraps because we're going to be using it later and then I'm going to actually take some wood glue and my quarter inch plywood and put that on the top that I haven't marked out my circle on in addition to the wood glue I'm also going to use some short screws that can go through the base piece but not go through the top piece and hold everything together while this dries for about twenty-five minutes I'm going to cut out the bottom little square piece that's gonna hold in my wireless charging pod so I have this square that I cut out and I'm just going to trace it and then you can easily use a handsaw jigsaw or I think I'll use a circular saw create a little square that's gonna go in there and then we have some metal plates then I'm gonna hold it in position once the pieces are dry I'm just going to use a jigsaw and go slowly around in a circle and then give it a quick stand afterwards so my next step is put in the wireless charging pad so we have our wireless charging pad here I shall lay in upside down of course from the bottom and then I have my little square that I cut out you want to make sure that it's tight in there and like pressed up against the top so we have this little piece of foam and you can use any kind of like paper or foam this will be going on the bottom so it won't affect the amount of material that's going in between the charging pad on your phone but it will make sure that's pressed up really tight against the top so we're gonna throw that in there and then I just have some five-inch metal plates that I'm going to screw on on the corners to hold everything in place but if for some reason my charger like dies one day or I don't want the charger to be a part of it anymore I can unscrew these and take it apart so once that's complete we can flip it over and now we're going to take our wireless charging compatible device and you're just want to lay it over the area and find out the placement in which it charges you might take a little bit of rotating because it has to be like centered directly over it oh there we go okay and since we found that perfect position and every time we put it down we don't want to have to guess where we're putting it we're going to actually add little markers all right once I have that drawn out I'm just going to mark with a chisel two corners and then when we stain this whole thing they'll be nicely stained in and they'll be subtle but still noticeable and then the last step is just to add a nice clear coat to seal it all in and give it a little bit shine and then we just reassembled our backing and added on those metal plates put it on top of our stand again you don't need the tray the tray you can now use in other things which is amazing you just got yourself a table and a tray and then you can just put your phone in the marked out areas and it will charge wirelessly I hope you guys liked this DIY if you
