driving over a thousand project cars that some people just don't seem to get if you are on a budget especially people sometimes make their life much harder to get the performance they desire out of their car so today I'm gonna go down the list of priority for the project car of your dreams so let's start with what's honestly the least important thing when it comes to building a project car wait you're telling me horsepower is the last thing look it's not what any of us want to hear power is the equivalent of likes on social media the bigger the better the car is always cooler if it can haul faster than its opponent on the street or around a track years ago there was a video called the super from Hell which showed this drag Supra doing a test hit on the street when I saw this so long ago I didn't even know cars could do such a thing the internet has made us incredibly numb to horsepower and look I'm 100 guilty of this so this might seem a little hypocritical nearly all of my project cars in my fleet except two push over 500 horsepower which is completely unnecessary my daily driver for example makes 750 horsepower to the wheels on a stock motor if I told myself that 10 years ago I would think future me is the coolest car guy around but no I'm still just a freaking nerd power is awesome but it has bitter consequences with most platforms adding more power takes away some long-term reliability I once talked to an Evo 10 owner with a built motor making 800 plus horsepower and him telling me this quote Yeah I'm really hoping that this one makes it to 10 000 miles this time around and we laughed but he was absolutely serious adding horsepower to your car is usually something you'll be absolutely mind blown by or ecstatic about for a little bit but then you realize you'll hardly be able to use it on the street well ever plus with more power you have to upgrade literally the rest of the car you go down a rabbit hole cooling braking tires you name it you try and drive a car with too much horsepower for the chassis with no experience and it's a one-way ticket into a tree so yeah horsepower is really cool but at the same time it is the biggest pain in the butt out of everything when you build a project car next is kind of a bonus round but hear me out Cosmetics okay look listen this isn't so much important when it comes to the importance of a project car's performance but more so about the enjoyment of car culture doing cosmetic changes to your car in a tasteful way for me anyways is an absolute pure joy none of the headaches and performance parts with a visual fulfilling change new bumpers color changes front lips things that most people can do on their own in their driveway I think is a perfect Gateway into car culture hey guys your suspension broken the way you look at your car represents your taste and who you are it's an extension of yourself so just enjoy making those changes on your project car and it will pay off does your car pass so they put in all this effort to just put worst suspension on their car than the millions of dollars of r d the car had from the factory my best advice is to start with the little things replace all the bad ball joints the control arms and things you would typically Overlook when restoring a car bushings as well can be tedious but an absolute Game Changer sway bars are easy to install and they're simple yet effective but the big one is a nice set of coilovers I personally go with Fortune Auto they have Quality Parts at every price point and are hand built right here in the USA it's what I use on all of my cars and they've never been a problem plus if they do age you can actually send them back to Fortunato and have them be rebuilt in-house this will change your car's character more than
