Hisrise to the top, where he stands now, wherehe stands at the end of the night we'll findout.Obviously, an awesome season. We're sitting in first place coming into thefinal round.Chris "The Force" Forsberg, grabs 3rd place!3rd place.Chris "The Force" Forsberg! So Chris Forsberg grabs 3rd place.2nd place.Grabs second place. And it's been a little bittersweet becausewe've been on the podium 6 times in a row,the last 6 events. And that was only to break our own recordthat we set in 2014 when we did 5 consecutivepodiums the last time we won a formula championship. But however, we have not gotten a win yetthis year. But for me, that's... you know... fine I guess to say.I'm okay with that because our goal is thechampionship. And so we're still here to win the championshipand as long as we still pull that off thisweekend... you know...I'll take 2nd or 3rd place or anyplace really as longaswe still get that prize at the end of the year.Becausethat's why we're here.We are seeing a very very solid battle for the championship and the way that the bracketis broken up something crazy will happen here tonight. And that would mark down 3 for myself, which would be the first time any driver has won 3 championships.Every aspect of the top 3 drivers... If they win... will be some part of history.Ah you know, I've been speaking to some people in the pits and the panic. I think Aasbo's a bit nervous,I think Chris Forsberg's a little settled, and Vaughn - his style - he's just kind of pounding his chest. To get to the point of controlling yourself mentally takes years for most peopleand some people can kind of develop it rather quickly, but for the most part it just takes a long amount ofyou know, dedication and just working at it. Being in that position in the past, you understand that stress andthe weight on your shoulders and everybody's watching. But you've been there in the past and you understandwhat the outcome was and how you got there. And being a professional driver isunderstanding the cause and effect. It's not just, "oh, I should've won that..." or"this should've happened," or "that should've happened."You have to look back at why it happened and know how to fix it.And that helps to ease the stress because now you have the answers and it's up to you to apply them. There's definitely 2 levels of drifting. There is the go out, build your car to be fun and fastand then there is professional drifting and that isIt's constant communication on 3 different aspects.Whereas, you know, you've got the car computer and the crew. You've got the spotter in the tower with the judges. And you've got the driver in the car.Well, you know, the key for Chris Forsberg has really been about consistency. He's always talked about trying to finish in the great 8 or better. That's what you need for a campaign to win a championship in formula drift. He was able to do that in pretty much every single round.6 podiums....It's hard to explain to someone how to be consistent, but the best way I can break it down for you is...Everybody has a threshold no matter what you're doing. Whether it's a job, mental capabilities, or memory. You have only so much that you can do.Trying to know exactly where that limit is for yourself as a person is what can allow you tojust run 95%, right below that number.Because when you just start pushing too hard and you're trying to put down that 100% run every single time. That's where you make mistakes. You don't give yourself any wiggle roomAs soon as you get past your threshold you start making mistakes, you start fumbling, andyou're not controlling the car. You're more along for the ride.Chris Forsberg will lead.Chris Forsberg just outside of that top 3 in order to get a fast pass to the top 16. Now, he's got to earn it.As you can see, Forsberg throwing it hard into the wall, showing his dominance not leaving it in the judges hands. And Faruque, unfortunately, now on the bank, and here comes Forsberg into that second rear clipping zoneFaruque bringing into that second rear way off of the rear clipping zoneNow tightening back up about that 3rd hash mark.Faruque will now lead.Chris Forsberg will give chase. So, again, strategy coming into play here for Forsberg. As Faruque initiates way down the bank Faruque straightensThere it is. It's unanimous.Chris Forsberg gets the victory and advances on to the top 16.This is where it gets interesting. The pressure mounting...Championship implication for Vaughn Gittin Junior, Pat MorDaunt....Just doing what he does best. Here we go.Vaughn Gittin Junior out in front.Initiating...Oh and...Vaughn Gittin Junior into the wall!Vaughn goes into the wall as Pat MorDaunt straightens out.You basically said it all. At this point, it's down to Forsberg and Aasbo. But Aasbo still needs to get into the top 16.Man, if you're Chris Forsberg and his team... you're all, "Come on dean!" You know? You're pulling for Dean at this instant in that Dodge Viper. As Aasbo will go up against DeanOn the line... How is this going to transpire? The "Norwegian Hammer." Is he going to advance?Or is "Carnage," Dean Kearney in that Oracle lighted gas monkey energy Dodge Viper applying the pressure! But Fredrick Aasbo holdsThat's his motto. That's his saying. And he... Oh!And he backed it in for the second red clipping zone. Spinning out!Aasbo continues through the course.Dean Kearney, Fredric Aasbo, slide them rightFredric Aasbo is still in it to win it.We're talking here at Irwindale and the Championship.GoodYeah?Yeah.Looks goodFeels good.Alright.Did you watch my top 30 D run?YeahThat was insane! That was something dude.I was like, "ah, stop! Quit it. Quit it."I banged it off the bank wall like 4 times.Off the big bank?Yeah!Oh shit! We were in the Scion booth. We just saw smoke and it looked pretty smooth. I couldn't really see.It was just like BOOM BOOM BOOM. Hit the wall like 4 times. It was out of control. In the lead run, yeah...Hurt has it because Hurt was at the end of the bank. He has the most insane shot.Is it at like 7:15? Is that when we have to be out there?I love you. Have fun!See you all.Do it dude! Do it, Forsberg! So again, we're about to see our top 16 drivers do battle. We'll kick it off here with head to head action.I am Jared DeAnda. Ryan Sage joining me now. We'll get our 3 judges ready to go...Final round. We're in the chase for the championship. It's stressful, for sure! The car's working is what we're responsible for. He's responsible for the driving and we have our own responsibilities so....It's a lot to worry about.Forsberg leads.MorDaunt chases.Forsberg initiates into that first red clipping zone. Some wavering there from Pat MorDaunt.Forsberg high on the bank. Now MorDaunt settle.Into that first red clip goes Forsberg. As does MordDaunt in toe.Into the second red clipping zone, Forsberg tapping the breaks, working it in.MorDaunt, keeping a consistent distance behind Forsberg, zeroes in on both of those clipping zones. Here we go, Pat MorDaunt out front.Pat Mordaunt Initiates. Forsberg, keeping a safe distance here, taking that mid to high lineas MorDaunt works it up. Here we go for that first red clip.MorDaunt and Forsberg right there...Oh and Forsberg goes into the second outer zone!Forsberg on the wall!As MorDaunt......an unbelievale turn of events!Aasbo gets second place.69 points is your gap.because you're 539.No, that's not true.Yeah, because he's at 32... That's how it is now.So, it's narrowing but he's still by... 5 points. He has to get second. He has to go 3 more than you.You have 1 more qualifying point. He's at 64 points if you're 3 through 4. So he has to go to second to get the extra bit.Matt Field. The Gears of War 4, Falcon Tires, S14. Fredric Aasbo championship implications on the line.Matt Field initiates, as I said, undefeated 5 and 0.It's Aasbo against Field. But the gloves are off and the ammunition and the momentum is on deck.Matt Field going into that second clipping zone. Wobbling into the second. Fredric Aasbo poisedRight there on the door. Look at Aasbo closing in!That's Aasbo!Oh man! We're seeing some contact firing off. What just happened as everybody is watching this battle and what's going down? Can Matt Field get into it again? He's seeing red.Matt Field, inching.... in that first red clipping zone.Matt Field, some wavering, not matching the angle that Fredric Aasbo has right now.Matt Field zeroing in.Aasbo, quick transition. Him in the second outer zone. Here comes Field working inback at an angle but gets back into that second red clipping zone.Dialing in, now on that last front clip.Aasbo and Field cross the finish line.Right now.If Fredric Aasbo loses here Chris Forsberg is your 2016 Formula Drift champion.Chris: holy shit... that was the worst. Why did I do that?3 time champ.Say it.I am 3 time champion. It's a good feeling.Congrats man.Thank you.I wouldn't say that I worry about my legacy as much as I think about it.As much as winning is important and championships are important. I feelthat a legacy revolves around more than that. It's not about just showing up with the biggest rig and winning all of the events and the most championships. For me it's about being the most involved.Trying to help more people in the pits andthe fans with exposure to the sport, than just yourself.I feel that I've done everything in my power to do that without sacrificing my own program. That puts me in a better space mentallyknowing that I did something to help someone else out.And it might put me in a better mood going into the competition soTo me it's not a distraction so to speak. That's what I've been doing since day one and I'm hoping to continue to do that.
