Sony's 2022 TV Lineup - OLED, QD-OLED, 8K and Mini-LED, Oh My!

I'm going to show you this small one first then we're just going to go up and screen size from there let's check it out so one of the cool things about a 42-inch desktop monitor besides the fact that it just looks amazingly immersive from the cds of about two feet is that it's going to have better picture quality since it's an oled monitor so you get the benefits of oled perfect black levels great off angle that you don't get with some of the lcd-based type monitors now if you're a twitch gamer you might notice it's got 4k 120 input capability so you get that smooth frame rate you can get take advantage of some of the higher end gaming pcs out there so again a perfectly functional monitor that also happens to be a really cool oled television so when you're done gaming can fire up netflix or another uh streaming service and really enjoy it as a television itself so that's pretty cool this is the a 90k series from sony it's available in the 42 and the 48 inch size now let's step up a little bit in screen size so again i'm here with sony's 2022 televisions behind me is their 8k now this is a 75 inch pair of televisions sony just showed me a demo comparing the 2021 to the 2022 models these use mini led 8k resolution this is the z9k series all the bells and whistles this is available in the 75 and the 85 inch size so as you can see it looks really nice really detailed of course 8k content really isn't there yet this tv is going to be extremely expensive spoiler sony has not announced pricing on any of these televisions yet we'll get that a little bit later but just know that this is going to be a really high-end expensive television now if you want the 4k version of this this is actually pretty exciting so this is the x 95k sony has just for the first time this year announced that they're doing mini led this is a backlight technology that other manufacturers have done previously but sony's doing it again only on its flagship models including that ak and this x95k now don't expect the picture quality to be quite as good as oled but it is going to be brighter so one of the benefits of mini led is you get that really good brightness especially if you're in a more well-lit room and of course you get those poppy hdr highlights so sony sat me down we saw a demo of this television compared to some competitors and the last year's version the x95j which doesn't use mini led and the full array local dimming the mini led backlight technology really got really good black levels of course you got that pop from the extra brightness of mini led so again very impressive looking i'll catch this all by saying though these are sony's control demos this is their own environment not my material but it gave me a pretty good impression of these televisions just at first glance first time i've seen them they were announced at ces and again coming out a little bit later in the spring now if you walk with me over here past the mini leds i mentioned oled before right here we have a display showing sony's reference monitor that uses oled technology last year's a90j an excellent performing oled tv but this is the real star of the show is the a 95k that's qd oled sony's flagship master series television i think it's probably going to have maybe the best picture quality i've ever seen it improves on standard oled by using quantum dots which improves colors i could see that here just in this brief demo really excited to check that out in the lab a little bit later finally sony's got the standard oled tvs they're bringing out at the a80k so yes sony is making two different kinds of oled televisions they're the only manufacturers doing that this year the a80k compared to last year does have an improved cognitive processor it's going to perform very similarly to their flagship a non-cutie oled from last year so again that's going to be a pretty high bar and it's really interesting to see how those two types of oled displays are going to compare when i get them into the lab

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoh hi didn't see you there just playing a little bit of fortnite on a 42-inch sony oled television this is pretty cool this is a brand new screen size for oled and a brand new screen size for sony i'm here at sony's tv display for their new 2022 models i'm going to show you this small one first then we're just going to go up and screen size from there let's check it out so one of the cool things about a 42-inch desktop monitor besides the fact that it just looks amazingly immersive from the cds of about two feet is that it's going to have better picture quality since it's an oled monitor so you get the benefits of oled perfect black levels great off angle that you don't get with some of the lcd-based type monitors now if you're a twitch gamer you might notice it's got 4k 120 input capability so you get that smooth frame rate you can get take advantage of some of the higher end gaming pcs out there so again a perfectly functional monitor that also happens to be a really cool oled television so when you're done gaming can fire up netflix or another uh streaming service and really enjoy it as a television itself so that's pretty cool this is the a 90k series from sony it's available in the 42 and the 48 inch size now let's step up a little bit in screen size so again i'm here with sony's 2022 televisions behind me is their 8k now this is a 75 inch pair of televisions sony just showed me a demo comparing the 2021 to the 2022 models these use mini led 8k resolution this is the z9k series all the bells and whistles this is available in the 75 and the 85 inch size so as you can see it looks really nice really detailed of course 8k content really isn't there yet this tv is going to be extremely expensive spoiler sony has not announced pricing on any of these televisions yet we'll get that a little bit later but just know that this is going to be a really high-end expensive television now if you want the 4k version of this this is actually pretty exciting so this is the x 95k sony has just for the first time this year announced that they're doing mini led this is a backlight technology that other manufacturers have done previously but sony's doing it again only on its flagship models including that ak and this x95k now don't expect the picture quality to be quite as good as oled but it is going to be brighter so one of the benefits of mini led is you get that really good brightness especially if you're in a more well-lit room and of course you get those poppy hdr highlights so sony sat me down we saw a demo of this television compared to some competitors and the last year's version the x95j which doesn't use mini led and the full array local dimming the mini led backlight technology really got really good black levels of course you got that pop from the extra brightness of mini led so again very impressive looking i'll catch this all by saying though these are sony's control demos this is their own environment not my material but it gave me a pretty good impression of these televisions just at first glance first time i've seen them they were announced at ces and again coming out a little bit later in the spring now if you walk with me over here past the mini leds i mentioned oled before right here we have a display showing sony's reference monitor that uses oled technology last year's a90j an excellent performing oled tv but this is the real star of the show is the a 95k that's qd oled sony's flagship master series television i think it's probably going to have maybe the best picture quality i've ever seen it improves on standard oled by using quantum dots which improves colors i could see that here just in this brief demo really excited to check that out in the lab a little bit later finally sony's got the standard oled tvs they're bringing out at the a80k so yes sony is making two different kinds of oled televisions they're the only manufacturers doing that this year the a80k compared to last year does have an improved cognitive processor it's going to perform very similarly to their flagship a non-cutie oled from last year so again that's going to be a pretty high bar and it's really interesting to see how those two types of oled displays are going to compare when i get them into the lab that's a quick look at sony's lineup for 2022 of all of its new televisions or at least the high-end versions these are available in myriad screen sizes mostly starting to ship later this spring i'm david katzmeyer for cnetoh hi didn't see you there just
