"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello YouTube this is Detroit Borg and in this video I will be unboxing and demonstrating the Blue Yeti USB professional microphone first thing I want to do is take a look at the packaging Blue Yeti does have some interesting packaging designs on the front we see a picture of the Yeti mic it says ultimate USB microphone for professional recording on the side we see some of the Yeti cartoons that blue put on the packaging in addition to these Yeti caricatures we have this little definition Yeti a noun legendary apik creature who roams the Himalayas see abominal snowman number two an incredibly versatile USB microphone found worldwide cthx certified microphone synonyms amazing vocals music podcast voiceovers interviews conference calls field recording and much much more so we have a clever way of advertising or explaining the features of the microphones on the side we see a diagram of the features and I will show you that once I get the microphone on out of the box the side of the box also includes a photograph of the three condenser capsules the condenser capsules are arranged in a way that allows the user to control the way sound is received by the mic and if we look at the other side of the Box we can see exactly how this microphone works with those three capsules now on the side we see we have four settings and it tells you exactly what these settings are useful for so for stereo we see that it's useful for vocals Ensemble choirs or instruments cardioid which is a setting that allows you to only hear uh from one side of the microphone is good for podcasts voiceovers vocals or instrumentals omnidirectional allows you to record the entire room's Ambient sound so this is good for conference calls field recordings and events B directional allows the microphone to hear what's on either side of it but not what's around it in the room this is good for interviews instruments and vocal Duets now this microphone is compatible with Macintosh so we have Macintosh OS 10 10.4.1 or higher and 64 megab of ram minimum windows it's compatible with Windows 7 Vista XP Professional and XP Home Edition with 64 Megs of ram minimum we just have a little piece of tape to cut here so the mini USB cable goes into the microphone and this connects to the computer we have a little instruction booklet more caricatures has some further explanation of stuff we've seen on the box already so here's the mic it's all aluminum I can tell it's very heavy and solid so we can see it's all aluminum and then it folds down into this stand and it folds up this way and you can tighten the bolts on the side on the bottom we have a foam footing the knobs on the side are plastic as are these controllers so we have a nice stainless steel bezel on the side we have the volume control and the mute switch on the back we have the gain controller and pattern selector it's pretty stiff now on the pattern dial we see we have the four selections stereo omnidirectional cardioid and bidirectional on the bottom we have the line out input and then we have the USB input and of course we have the threaded mic stand which fits all standard mic mounts so if you want you can take this off the stand and thread it on your own mic Mount now I've gone ahead and connected my iMac to the mic using the USB cable now when you connect the mic you do get a little red light for the mute switch so when you press the mute switch it does start blinking press it again it's solid now you can use any audio aware app on your Mac there is no specific software that comes for the Blue Yeti mic as you can see the mic is quite big it's about a foot tall so it actually looks even huge next to my 27in iMac so that might be a turnoff for some people and primarily I'm going to be using this with iMovie to record voice overs for my videos on YouTube once again this is Detroit Borg with an unboxing and demo of the Blue Yeti USB microphone thanks for
