Google I_O 2019 Highlights
**Introducing Android 11: A New Era of Security and Control**
Android 11 is here, and it's packed with features that prioritize security and privacy. This new operating system builds upon the best of what came before, but takes things to a whole new level. With Android 11, you'll find almost 50 new features focused on security and privacy, all designed to give you more protection, transparency, and control over your device.
**Privacy at Your Fingertips**
One of the most significant changes in Android 11 is the reorganization of settings. Privacy has taken center stage, and now it's easier than ever to access and manage your personal data. In the new Settings app, you'll find a range of important controls all in one place. This includes activity data, location history, and more. You can decide what's on or off with ease, knowing that you're always in control.
**Location Sharing Made Easy**
If you've ever wondered which apps are accessing your location when you're not actively using them, Android 11 has got you covered. The device will now give you helpful reminders whenever an app accesses location when you're not actively using it. You can review and decide whether or not to continue sharing your location. And with Q, your device will also give you more control over how you share location data with apps. For example, if you want to get pizza delivered, you can choose to share your location only while the app is in use.
**Faster Security Updates**
Android 11 also includes a set of OS modules that are updatable directly over the air. This means that these modules can be updated individually as soon as they're available, without the need for a reboot of the device. This is a major improvement over traditional security updates, which often require a restart.
**Introducing Nest Hub Max**
In addition to its focus on security and privacy, Android 11 also introduces Nest Hub Max, a new product that brings together your connected devices into a home view dashboard. The Hub Max has a camera in a larger 10-inch display, perfect for the center of your helpful home hub. This device pulls together your Nest cams, lights, music, and thermostat, giving you a comprehensive overview of your home.
**Easy Video Calling with Google Duo**
The camera on the Hub Max is designed to be incredibly helpful, allowing you to see what's going on in your home from anywhere. You can use it like a Nest cam, turning it on when you're away from home and checking on things right from the Nest app in your phone. The camera also has a wide-angle lens and automatically adjusts to keep you centered in the frame. Video calling is easy too with Google Duo, which allows you to chat with any iOS or Android device or a PC with a Chrome browser.
**Camera Controls at Your Fingertips**
One of the standout features of the Hub Max is its camera controls. You'll always know when the camera is on, thanks to a green indicator light, and you can see all your controls clearly on the display. The camera also has multiple controls to disable features, including an electrically disconnectable switch on the back.
**The Pixel 3a: A Camera-Packed Device**
And finally, we have the Pixel 3a, which comes in three colors: black, clearly white, and a new color called purple-ish. But what the Pixel 3a is really known for is its incredible camera. With software optimizations, Android 11 has brought exclusive camera features to the Pixel 3a, including Night Sight, Portrait mode on both front and rear cameras, and Super Resumes.
**AI-Powered Battery Life**
The Pixel 3a also features adaptive battery, which uses machine learning to optimize based on how you use your phone. This means that you can get up to thirty hours of battery life on a single charge, and with the included 18-watt charger, you'll get up to seven hours of battery life in just 15 minutes.
**A Complete Pixel Experience**
The Pixel 3a offers the complete Pixel experience, and we're proud to make it available and affordable to more people around the world. For the first time, our US carrier partnerships are expanding, meaning that the entire Pixel family is now available for sale at T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular.
