Lexus RX SUV 2018 review _ Mat Watson Reviews

**The Lexus RX: A Luxurious SUV with Some Quirks**

For those who value comfort and practicality over performance, the Lexus RX is an excellent choice. Its suspension is designed to provide a smooth ride, making it perfect for daily driving on congested city roads or motorways. The seats are also a highlight, offering unparalleled luxury and support.

However, for those who crave a more sporty driving experience, the Lexus RX may not be the best fit. While it's certainly a capable SUV, its underwhelming performance capabilities make it less appealing to enthusiasts.

One of the most significant advantages of the Lexus RX is its spacious interior. The parcel shelf can accommodate large items, and the cabin offers ample legroom for passengers. However, when folding down the seats, there are some limitations - they don't lie completely flat, making it slightly more difficult to load heavy objects into the back.

**Practicality in Depth**

To truly understand the practicality of the Lexus RX, a deep dive is necessary. The RX has a unique feature set that makes it an excellent choice for many drivers. One notable aspect is its infotainment system, which offers a range of features and connectivity options. However, some users may find the interface to be awkward and frustrating to use.

Fortunately, there are ways to improve the user experience. For instance, the Lexus RX has one of the fastest and quietest electric windows in the industry, making it a joy to drive. Additionally, the interior features luxurious materials, including wood trim made by Yamaha's piano division, which boasts special software that enhances compressed music.

**Fuel Efficiency and Performance**

When it comes to fuel efficiency, the Lexus RX is certainly an attractive option. With its hybrid powertrain, it can achieve impressive economies, particularly for drivers who spend a significant amount of time on the motorway at high speeds. According to Lexus, this car should be able to achieve up to 51 miles per gallon.

In practice, we found that our test vehicle achieved approximately 44 miles per gallon, which is still an excellent performance. However, it's worth noting that this may not be as impressive for drivers who prioritize fuel efficiency over performance.

**Handling and Technology**

When it comes to handling, the Lexus RX has some quirks that may detract from its overall experience. One notable issue is the gearbox, which can hold the engine's revs at a constant rate when accelerating. This results in a slightly droning sound when slowing down in town.

However, when cruising on the motorway, the RX's all-wheel-drive system and hybrid powertrain make it an excellent performer. The heads-up display is also one of the largest on any production car, offering features such as traffic information, fuel prices, and connected services like Google Streetview.

**The Verdict**

While the Lexus RX has some quirks and limitations, its overall package makes it an excellent choice for many drivers. Its luxurious interior, comfortable ride, and impressive fuel efficiency make it an attractive option for those who prioritize practicality over performance.

If you're in the market for a luxury SUV with a sporty edge, there are certainly other options available that may be more to your liking. However, for those who value comfort and practicality above all else, the Lexus RX is definitely worth considering.

**Additional Features and Details**

One notable feature of the Lexus RX is its lane departure warning system, which uses cameras to detect when you're drifting out of your lane and alerts you with a beep. While this may seem like an unnecessary feature at first glance, it's actually quite useful in preventing accidents.

Unfortunately, the car's electric windows can be a bit finicky - they require a physical touch to activate, rather than hands-free operation. Additionally, some users have reported issues with the heater controls, which can be confusing and difficult to use.

Despite these quibbles, the Lexus RX is undoubtedly a well-designed and luxurious vehicle. Its attention to detail, comfortable ride, and impressive features make it an excellent choice for many drivers.

brand-new car this car stands out certainly more distinctive than the main touring German SUVs and it's the same story here on the inside this interior is just lovely it just makes this car feel more unique in this segment and then there's a seats or they're covered in some the softest leather known to man and Lex oh she hasn't scrimped on practicality mean this is a luxurious car but if they thought about cutting spaces so there's a big storage into there there's a decent glovebox and I like the way the door pockets actually extend that just feels really premium now one of the good things about this car is there's not much you have to spin on options now granted this RX 450h premiere model is 58 grand which is a lot of money but you get everything you really need with it so it's got wireless charging for your mobile phone you get heated and ventilated seats as standard there's heads-up display as standard as well that's really impressive the only options really fit to this car at the panoramic glass sunroof and the horseshoe crab coloured paint scheme you even get this big infotainment screen as standard the only problem is that well it's not the easiest thing to use so you have to control it using this kind of mouse pad thingie here and even then well that's hard to do and the menus themself the layout just but it's not pretty intuitive the Germans do do infotainment systems better need to click up there the top right-hand corner of the screen you can see our full in-depth review of the infotainment system and have another good look and it's our exes cabin really taken just how delightful it is and it's the same story in the back seats as well so first of all you've got absolutely loads of room so loads of knee room you can really stretch out and I like this features well look you can seriously recline these chairs hanging just wow I could go loads of miles in the back of this it's very comfy the seats are just so yielding and nice and everything you touch has a certain quality to it which is almost unrivaled I mean look at the the weight of that solid everything is just so well made it you know it's never going to break it it's all really impressive it just works what doesn't work so well though is this middle seat while it's brilliant for 2 in the back it's not so good for 3 so if I sit in the middle seat even though I've got a nice big foot well flat floor completely flat why it's touching the roof what a shame and there's similar problems with the boot so first thing is that well the automated tailgate takes an age to open please don't click out the video just bear with us okay it takes some less time to lift up tower bridge finally it's done ok so the boot it's it's kind of small for this class quite a bit down on its rival such as the vindaloo x5 and the Mercedes GLA and that's because you have all the hybrid stuff of the batteries and motor underneath the boot floor thing is that even if you go for the petrol version you still have the same boot size they didn't alter it didn't make it bigger for the petrol which is a bit annoying another thing that is a bit of a shame is when you can't put the parcel shelf under the boot floor and when you fall down the seats which you can do from here or inside the cabin which is good when you fold them down look at this right they don't lie completely flat so that even though you have this well no load lip if you want to slide heavy items in the back up and lift them up over there to get them all the way in now if you want to see what it's like to actually pack closes things into this car you click on the top right corner of the screen on the card you can say in-depth practicality video and will also show you how easy it is to fit a child seat in the back of the RX and just what it's like with three people sat side by side in the rear so then what's the RX like to drive if the other kind of person that likes their sports utility vehicles to actually feel sporty then you might be a little bit disappointed with the Lexus RX but for normal people who spend much their time driving on congested city roads or on the motorway they're really really going to appreciate this car the suspensions nice and comfy the seats are absolutely glorious it's also quiet to travel in so you arrive at your destination just feeling relaxed it's the Lexus way if you're interested in this car there is something you need to know and that's the fact you can't get it with a diesel engine there's two petrol choices ones are 2-liter turbo and that's front-wheel drive there you can pay six thousand bound extra to have it with all-wheel drive so don't bother with that the best bet is this car it's the 458 and it's a hybrid it's up front you've got three litre v6 petrol engine mated to an electric motor and in the back there's another electric motor driving the rear wheels so you have all-wheel drive one thing that does detract from it slightly is the gearbox so when you put your foot down it holds the engines revs at a constant rate so you get a bit of a droning sound when you slow down in town you go into electric-only mode and it's nice and quiet now we'll admit that if you're doing regular motorway miles at high speeds you will end up getting better economy overall in a diesel German SUV but if you do quite a bit tango this could be a really good option for you and this car according to Lexus well it should be able to do 51 miles per gallon and looking at the trick computer I'm doing 44 miles per gallon however there are some annoying things about the Lexus RX and like with other cars you don't use the hands-free only for the boot by waving your foot about under there you actually have to put your hand there lie on the budge and then it works so yes not exactly hands-free then it's a bit lane that Lex is using Jude Law to try and sell this guys there we go yeah we're getting our x1 we just like June export models come with sporting extras including a G meter like you really need on a big lumbering SUV this car so many warning beeps and bongs they'll even let you know when the doors open yes thanks for that I know the doors open because I can see it's open what the heater controls for the seeds actually with the seeds or they're with a climate control rather than hidden behind the ear knob thankfully there are some cool features which make up for all this this car has some of the fastest and quietest electric windows I've ever experienced this lovely laser it's wood trim is actually made by Yamaha as piano division the wonderful mark levinson so it has special software to make compressed music sound better so perfect octopi users apparently this heads-up displays the largest on any production car as well as traffic information fuel prices and whether exes connected services also includes Google Streetview you can avoid in savory areas due to its cleaner tailpipe emissions Lexus says that company drivers using this car will save up to this per day over the equivalent German diesel rival okay then so overall what I think the Lexus RX were it's boot it's more than rivals and its infotainment system is just so awkward to use but you know this is a super luxurious car inside the build quality is impeccable and it's really comfy to travel it now if you click up there you can get
