The Future of Air Travel: Exploring Self-Service Security Lanes with Virtual Reality
Imagine walking through an airport without the hassle of long lines and security checks. Sounds like science fiction, right? But what if we told you that technology is being developed to make this a reality? Welcome to the world of self-service security lanes at airports, where Virtual Reality (VR) plays a crucial role in shaping the future of air travel.
The Technology Behind Self-Service Security Lanes
So, how does it work? Well, our technology uses an avatar on a screen to guide you through the self-c screening process. Normally, you'd use two or three bins to get your carry-on bag and personal item, as well as any jackets or other items in your pockets. But with this new system, all that will be able to be screened in a single step. That's right, just one step! Our avatar will remind you to place all items into the scanner, so if you forget something or leave it on the floor, you can easily rectify the situation without having to worry about getting a pat-down.
The Benefits of Self-Service Security Lanes
One of the biggest advantages of this system is that it could lead to less Pat downs. With passengers taking control of their own screening process, Transportation security officers will only be needed for complex cases that can't be resolved by the passenger themselves. This means faster processing times and a more streamlined experience for everyone involved.
But what about families with children or individuals with a lot of luggage? Don't worry, we're working on it! Our team is surveying passengers to get honest feedback and understand any challenges they may face. We want to ensure that this system works seamlessly for everyone, regardless of their individual needs.
Virtual Reality: A New Way to Experience Security Lanes
To give you a better idea of what this experience will be like, we're using Virtual Reality (VR) to showcase the self-service security lanes. Our avatar takes you through the screening process, guiding you through each step and reminding you of any items that need attention. It's an immersive experience that simulates the real thing, without the hassle.
Two Approaches: The Future and the Prototype
We're working on two different approaches to this technology. One is our more forward-leaning approach, which uses an avatar to guide passengers through the screening process. This system will be installed in the next couple of months and will be live soon. We also have a separate prototype being developed in Las Vegas, which looks more like a traditional security lane but incorporates self-service aspects.
A New Era for Air Travel
As we move forward with this technology, we're excited to see how it will shape the future of air travel. With less Pat downs and faster processing times, passengers can enjoy a more streamlined experience at airports. And with our survey of passengers, we're confident that we'll be able to iron out any kinks and make this system work seamlessly for everyone.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enand this is the part where you get scammed so I have to do what this does I don't know do we do this do we still do this you already know about self shockout Lanes at the grocery store but what about a self-service security Lane at the airport that's the technology being worked on right now for your future flight and we're going to use Virtual Reality to get a glimpse at what that experience is like take a moment to look around the screening station I am inside pod once inside the station the doors close and an avatar on a screen guides you through the self-c screening process where normally now you might use two or three bins to get your carry-on bag and your personal item and your jacket and anything else in your pockets all of that will be able to be screened in a single step all right and I guess my bag goes there so I put my bag in there if you have forgotten something in your pocket or left something on the floor the Avatar reminds you to place all items into the scanner if you say hey I see something in your pockets you're going to go oh shoot I left something in my pockets and you can self-resolve and you don't need to get a pat down you don't need to do any of those things because it's a very straightforward part of the process if it does end up getting to the point where maybe you have a medical device or maybe there's something that can't be resolved by the passenger themselves that's where we will have tsos uh Transportation security officers supporting the booths uh so that they can resolve any issues that arise that the passengers are not able to self-resolve and this is the part where you get scammed the Avatar then asks you to turn and face the panel for passenger scanning all right so then I get my stuff and I'm done the one that you saw in VR is sort of our more forward leaning approach we also have a separate system that is currently being installed as a prototype in Las Vegas right now that looks more like a traditional Lane but it has a lot of those self-service aspects for the self-service screening system that's installed today at the checkpoint we're looking at in the next couple of months that will be live uh microx being the other vendor that is more of the Pod style which I think you were able to see on the VR um they will be a little longer of a lead time and I think a lot of that is they truly are building prototype from the ground up we are going to be doing surveys of the passengers that come through the system and we want honest feedback that is what's going to help us get to the right stage so don't hold back uh tell us what you like tell us what you don't like but we really do appreciate the feedback this whole system right now is only for passengers who would be enrolled in free check I have a lot of questions doing it like what happens when there are families with children uh what if you have a lot stuff so these kinds of things are being worked out right now in the testing days on the positive side there could be less Pat downs but will it go faster will it save you time I guess it depends on how much time every passenger takes because it's only as fast as the passengers are at getting in putting their stuff in and taking it out so as this gets developed I'm sure they'll be ironing things out and seeing how people react to it what do you think is this something that you would want to use to have more control of the whole process let me know in the commentsand this is the part where you get scammed so I have to do what this does I don't know do we
