"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enback at the very beginning of 2020 i had the chance to go to ces in las vegas and see the google booth where they showed off the newest google home and google assistant features well it's taken about a year but most of those features are now available so in this video i'm going to show you all of those features and how they work let's get started hey everybody welcome to tech with brett where i help tech work for you i want to thank elite for sponsoring today's video now it's been a while since i've talked about some new google assistant features but there are some really neat things that we're going to be talking about today and the first one is about smart lighting so google introduced a brand new feature called seamless setup that allows you to instantly connect a smart light bulb to your google devices without needing another app so let me show you how that works so here we have the brand new yeelight multi-color m2 smart led bulb that can go up to 1 000 lumens and right here it says works with google which we've seen before but down here in very small writing it says seamless setup with the google home app so is how you connect this is you plug it in go to the google home app and connect it now just like that it's set up now one of the things that's missing from that process is another app you can see here in my lighting folder i have a ton of different smart lighting apps that i've had to use to connect my smart light bulbs and then i need to go to the google home app to connect well today this is one of the first light bulbs to be able to seamlessly connect right through the google home app without needing to connect to another device or a hub so let's go ahead and get this unboxed all right so here we have the light bulb and an instruction sheet plug in the google nest device plug in your yeelight m2 get the google home app and follow the prompts so i think we can do that all right light bulb is plugged in turned on it's very bright now for seamless setup products make sure you have your bluetooth on and then you're just going to head into the google home app on android or ios devices and then once you open it up here it says set up one smart light so it already found that there is a light available if you don't see that you could select the plus setup device and then we're going to select new device and here we're going to choose the home that we want to add it to and now it's going to go through the process to find the light bulb and here it found the bulb and it's saying do you want to set up smart light yes and here is our yeelight seamless bulb 6197 the bulb will end flash showing you that's the one you're going to connect to set up we're going to choose a room let's move this one to the studio and we're going to give it a name so let's name this lamp and we are finished select done if we go to our studio room here we can now see that we have the lamp and our nest audio speaker so here in the app i can easily adjust the brightness it changes right there i can turn the light off and on again if i want to adjust the color i can then do that right here with the different color options in the app so it's very simple and easy to use and now the yeelight m2 bulb is connected directly to our google home device now this will work with all kinds of different google home devices google home mini google nest audio google nest mini nest hub nest hub mac so all of those google devices it will work with and you can have six light bulbs per google device so if you have multiple google devices you could have 12 or if you have three google devices you can get up to 18. so really you can have a lot of bulbs in your home now is what this means is you also have a more direct connection so instead of having to talk with the cloud of the other app and then go to the light bulb it's now directly connecting to that light bulb so the response time is going to be much faster now let's go over some voice commands hey google turn off the light hey google set the light to blue so you have all of the different commands like you're used to but it's just directly connected so that is seamless setup i'm really excited about that so that i don't have to have a ton of different light bulb apps i can just have everything directly connected through the google home app now the next feature i want to talk about is something called scheduled actions so this allows you to use your google assistant to control devices at a later time so let's say i'm putting my kids to sleep and they want the light on for five more minutes i could then ask google to turn off the light in five minutes and we'll do a simplified example hey google turn off the lamp in one minute okay i'll turn off the lamp at 509 pm now you could also use this feature to ask it to turn off the lamp at sunset or you could have it turn on something at a certain time so there's a lot of different things that you can do and it's really nice that instead of having to go into the app and at a specific time and turn it off you can just say your specific scheduled action it will then automatically turn off the light at that time and if you're like me usually i would forget to go and turn off the light after five minutes so my kids would be playing for another hour but now it will automatically turn off the light when you say it without you having to pull out the app and create a routine or anything like that and there the lamp turned off so that is called scheduled actions now the next feature is called leave a note so how this works is you use your nest display to leave a note and when somebody comes and walks up to the device it will then display that note on screen for up to 24 hours so this is nice that i can easily remind my kids to do something later in the day so let's try it out create a family note what do you want it to say walk the dog family notes been created probably should get a dog first but there we have created our note and right there you can see on the display it says walk the dog and it even shows that it was created by me and when they're done they could come up here tap on the note and if they finished with it they can select delete if you want to see all the notes that have been created show me my family notes here are your family notes and so there you can see the note and down here you can select the delete option and delete the different family notes so that's a really fun new feature now with that there's also something new called household contacts so here on our nest display if we go to the communicate tab over here on the side you will see household contacts so at home we no longer have a home phone a phone that's just sitting there my wife and i we have cell phones and the kids don't really have a way to contact us so this is really cool because our nest displays are sitting there in the kitchen they can easily come up here and we can teach them how to navigate to here very easy to do and now they can easily call us or video chat with us right from the household contacts so to set that up you just say hey create a household contact all right go ahead and pick your household contacts and now it's showing different contacts that i've already linked on my google account right here on the display so if there is somebody that i want to add i can just tap on them select done you can have multiple contacts on there okay done and now over here on the communicate tab you can see that my new contact shows right there if we tap on the contact we now have the option to do a voice call a video call through google duo or we can even do a video message and now it is like we have a home phone without having to pay for service or anything like that now the next feature is done on an android phone and this is called read this so sometimes i'm reading an article but then i actually want to be doing something else this allows you to have google assistant verbally read that article for you so that you can continue doing what you were doing so let's head to the web so here on google's blog i have an article about the features i'm talking about today read this okay so all i need to do is activate google assistant from that website and now it is automatically going to start reading that page to me from blog.google a more helpful google assistant for your everyday by manuel bronstein manuel bronstein vice president of product google assistant available in more than 90 countries the google assistant now helps more than 500 million people every month to get things done across smart speakers and smart displays and so on so that's a pretty cool feature now i'm a big fan of audio books so this makes it really easy to turn any web page or blog into an audiobook so that it can just read it to you and you can keep going on with whatever you are doing now the last feature i want to talk about is about privacy so if you ever say something to the google assistant and you want it to delete your data you can do that all by voice taylor swift is the best artist ever sorry i don't know how to help with that even though it didn't know how to respond it still saved what i said so if i go here into the google home app i go into my profile and i go to assistant settings and then i go to your data in the assistant here it's going to show me a history of my activity so right here you can see what i just said and everything else i've ever said so if i say hey that wasn't for you sorry i'm deleting what i heard it should be gone in a few seconds so here you can see that info is there after a refresh and now that information has been removed from the google assistant and so that is pretty much all the features that were announced earlier this year at ces and it's really great to see that they have all finally come out and are available to use now i think my favorite one of all of those is the seamless setup how you can instantly plug in your light bulb connect it to the google assistant through the google home app and then you have voice controls without needing to download another lite app now yeelight is actually doing something really cool right now if you purchase a yeelight smart light bulb and connect it to the google home app you will be entered into a giveaway where they're giving away google nest hub and up to 299 dollars of prizes in a little surprise kit so i'll leave all the details on how to enter that in the description below and so that you have a chance to get your very own smart home setup so if you have any further questions about any of the things that we talked about today please let me know in the comments below and if you would like to see more features that you can use on your google assistant make sure you check out the videos over here on the side thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next oneback at the very
