Razer Blade 15 - A Long Term User Review

**The Razer Blade 15: A High-Performance Portable Laptop**

As I put the Razer Blade 15 to the test, I couldn't help but feel that it's a peasant compared to the Ryzen CPUs available in the market right now. The laptop's specs are impressive, with a 2080 Max-Q GPU and a Core i7 processor, but I'm hoping that Razer will offer options sooner rather than later to keep up with the competition.

One thing that you'll notice is that the scores I'm getting now are lower compared to what I had before. The reason for this is that I ran these benchmarks with some of the background applications that I use on a regular basis, including my antivirus program, Adobe Creative Cloud, and a few other applications as well, including my wireless mouse software. There's a lot happening in the background, which is why you're seeing those lower scores.

Despite the lower scores, the gaming performance is pretty good. It's not the fastest out there, but considering the form factor, the acoustics, and Razer's efficient vapor chamber cooling system, it's good. The port selection is also good on this machine, even though it's a 2019 model. Razer has equipped it with USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, which is the 10-gigabits per second protocol. This is awesome because many other notebook manufacturers failed to implement all of the USB ports with that standard.

However, there are a few drawbacks. The lack of an SD card reader is a bummer, but the 2020 models do come with one, so that's awesome. Battery life is good but not great. I'm only getting roughly five hours of use when I'm doing some casual stuff like browsing the web or writing out a script, and if I switch over to something more heavy, I can only squeeze about an hour worth of use.

**Design and Build Quality**

Razer nails it in the design and build quality department. The unibody design is unlike anything that you can find with the competition right now, and I've yet to find a laptop that can sort of compete with the standard that Razer has set. The robust hinge mechanism is nice and solid, and the keyboard layout is awesome. The trackpad is great - it just works, which is the beauty of this machine.

The advanced cooling system inside does a relatively good job cooling the 2080 Max-Q GPU and the Core i7 processor. It doesn't necessarily give you the fastest performance, but it's overall a balanced high-performance portable machine.

**Room for Improvement**

If Razer if you're watching this video, I would like you guys to improve on a few things with your Blade 15 notebooks. First and foremost, if you can implement a brighter screen with higher refresh rate and better color accuracy, that would be awesome. A bigger battery would be highly appreciated because if you look at the competition, MSI is coming out with 99.9 watt batteries on their slim chassis.

I think it's time for Razer to explore options from AMD as well. The Ryzen chips are definitely faster, and the numbers really do speak for themselves. Intel does have a lot of catching up to do, and those chips are also pretty power-efficient as well. So, figure something out with AMD and get something sorted.

Finally, I like to see the customer support system revamped. Many of you guys have been vocal about Razer's customer support, and for the most part, it has been negative. Especially when you look at issues from previous designs. But Razer worked hard since the 2019 models to improve that perception. There are some pretty critical videos out there with legitimate concerns about internal build quality and poor resolutions by Razer's technical team.

Keep in mind that I've had very few issues, but that's based on a single model so that knows. Thank you so much for watching guys, and if you are an existing Blade 15 owner, I want to know your experience using that machine and if it somewhat reflects my experience as well. I'll be hanging out in the comments down below.

**Conclusion**

Overall, the Razer Blade 15 is a high-performance portable laptop that checks all the right boxes. With its powerful specs, good gaming performance, and robust build quality, it's a great option for anyone looking for a laptop that can keep up with their active lifestyle. While there are a few areas where Razer could improve, such as the screen brightness, battery life, and customer support, these issues do not detract from the overall experience of using this machine.

I hope that Razer will take feedback from users like me into consideration for future revisions, including exploring options with AMD for their next-generation laptops. With a few tweaks and improvements, the Razer Blade 15 has the potential to be one of the best portable gaming laptops on the market.

thisvideois not sponsored by any means they'renot paying a single dime to talk aboutthis laptopi just wanted to share my thoughts uhsome of the issues that i hadwith the 15 Advanced or just check it out belowokay so i think it's important for me toset the stage for you guysas to what i've been using for the past10 years or somy very first laptop was an hp g60when i first moved to canada about 10years ago i needed a laptop to getthrough high schooland so after researching and researchingmy mom and i went to fujishop which wasan electronic store here in canada backthenbut now it's owned by best buy wefinally pulled the trigger on itand i enjoyed using that laptop itwasn't a gamingpowerhouse but it was able to get methrough high schooljust fine and then i upgraded to the xps15l 502 x it was a legendary machinethat came with a quad core processor anda discrete graphics cardi remember editing my very first shortfilm on that machine i made a fewupgradesas well on the inside fast forward a fewyears later and i started working forhardware canucks and i was justintroduced to this whole new realm ofthe pc masterways where i got to builddesktop pcs i built my very firstdesktop pcon the channel and i just started usingdesktops moving or ever since then justbecause of theraw horsepower that it was able todeliver compared to a laptopso that was fascinating but then i hadto go to shows like ces and copy text soi ended up using a eurocom laptop it wasit's a canadian brandbut it had the specs to back up theworkflow that i used to do but it wasn'tthe best laptop it didn't have thegreatest build qualityand it just felt cheap but it had thepower and it got the job done and then iswitched over to my very firstmac that's right i bought myself a13-inch macbook prouh one of those models that had portslike actual portsand i loved it the display was great thetrackpad was amazing the keyboard wasawesomethe keyboard actually worked i took itto shows with me unfortunately it didn'thave theperformance that i needed to because itwas a 13-inch macbook pro didn't comewith a discreet graphics cardand so i was using premiere at the timeand it wasn't optimizedfor that laptop so i had to sacrifice onrendering times and all that stuff butthe battery life the portability thatwas the best part about that machine andthenRazer hooked us up with one of theirfirst bladegaming laptops remember the one thatcame with a 14 inch display and adiscreet graphics cardin this case it was a gtx 1060. to me itwas just a perfect upgrade coming frommy macbook pro 13 inch because i wasn'tlosing a lot in terms of form factorand size but it had its own issuesfor instance it ran hot it was too louda battery life wasn't that greatand a lot of users were reportingbattery bulging issues althoughi didn't encounter any of them but itwas pretty common among a lot of usersand razer's customer support was prettyterrible back thenand i'm sure a lot of you guys werevocal about that especially whenit was a common issue fast forward a fewyears later andrazer comes up with the Blade 15 seriesand i got myself the Blade 15base model it was a welcoming upgradeover the previous generation because itcame with a bigger displaythe design was refined a little bit theboxy look is still pretty reminiscentwithin current generationand i was able to upgrade the memory andit also came with a secondary hard driveslot which i was able to populate withan ssd sooverall i really enjoyed my time usingthat machine for about a monthuntil i started experiencing thisand this and this seriously the numberof bsods both myselfand dimitri encountered on our bladeswere really frustratingi actually remember time during computexi wasn't able to edit a video properlyon myBlade 15 base model because 10 minuteslater it bsods i had to restartedit a video i wasn't able to edit itproperly and then it just crashes on meagain and again and againit was really i mean i was almost to apoint where i wanted to throw thatlaptop out the window butum yeah it really i mean we were allpretty pissed at razer at the timeand we had to i mean actually rememberjust going out to the show floor andseeing if we can find another competitorfromasus or gigabyte to see if they had aspare sample for us to use temporarilytemporarily to get work done it wasreally that bad guys in fact that wholethingmade it into a vlog so i'll make sure toleave a link down below if you'reinterested in checking outfortunately we were having conversationswith Razer in parallel to really findout the culpritof these crashes and bsods i ended upreplacing my base model with theadvanced model that i have right overhere this exact sameuh unit and it just kept happening basisjust kept happening over and over againsowe just i honestly i was at the peak ofgiving up and switching entirelyto a different notebook until wediagnosedand we narrowed down the issue to Razersynapsebasically synapse had troublecommunicating with nvidia studio driversand so that caused the machine to crashsorazer rolled out an update andmagically everything just was everythingworked i did not experience and i stillhaven't experienceda bsod on this machine uheven a year later which is just softwareupdateyeah what do you know now there arecertain things that i don't like aboutthis laptopthe first being the keyboard the traveldistance is very short i feel like thecompetition has better offerings thanthisnotably the zenbook 15 from asus xps 15from dellheck even the tough a15 from asus isbetter than this in terms of feedbackwith that being said i love the ledbacklighting on the blade razer has justnailed iton this model there's very little spillaround the keysand it gets really bright so that'sawesome i also wish that the screen gotbrighter because this 2019 model comeswith a 240hz displayand it only goes as far as 350 nits soit's perfect for indoor usebut as soon as you take it outdoors itgets a bit challenging tosee things and uh yeah that's a littlebit unfortunatenow i am aware that the newer modelscome with a faster 300s refresh ratehonestly i just think that's marketingbluff i don't think you necessarily need300 hertz untilor unless if you're an esports playerbut it just doesn't really mean anythingto me personally but with that beingsaidi love how color accurate this displayis i can comfortably edit photos usinglightroom and photoshopand edit videos comfortably on davinciresolve this is a fantastic panel i haveabsolutely no complaints when it comesto color accuracy another thing i needto point out is that when i use thisthing in battery modeperformance takes a huge hit clockspeeds don't boost higher i've seen themgo below 1 gigahertz and with nvidia'smaximus technologythe discrete graphics card is disabledand so when you're doing casual stuffit doesn't really kick in it uses theintegrated gpu i feel like it treatsitself as anultrabook to yield higher or longerbattery lifenow obviously if you're looking to getthe highest performance on any windowsmachine you have to have it plugged inwhich is exactly what i didon this laptop but i am super annoyed bythe power connector on this machine forsome reasonrazer uses this thick braided cablewhich is just really hardto um organize and especially if youhave it plugged in in the wrongdirection it completelyblocks that extra usb port whichi mean whoever designed the power cablereally needs to go back to the drawingboard and fix that because it is prettyannoying now in terms of performancei'm actually pretty happy with it guysit's not the fastest gaming laptop outthereand the 9750h is a peasant compared tothe ryzen cpus that are available in themarket right nowand i'm hoping Razer will offer optionssooner than later because everyone seemsto be begging for itthese days one thing that you'll noticeis that the scores that i'm getting noware lower compared to what i had
