HTC Desire 501 Camera Review with Samples

**Unboxing and First Impressions: HTC Desire 501**

The HTC Desire 501 is a mid-range Android phone that promises to deliver excellent camera performance, making it an attractive option for photography enthusiasts. In this unboxing review, we'll take a closer look at the device's features, camera capabilities, and overall user experience.

**Camera Capabilities and Features**

One of the standout features of the HTC Desire 501 is its camera system. The phone boasts a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13MP rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Additionally, it has a 5MP front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens. The camera app is intuitive and offers various modes, including Auto, Manual, and Scene effects like HDR, Panorama, and Str mode. Users can also tap to focus on a specific area of the image or use the autofocus feature to quickly adjust the exposure.

The camera's performance was put to the test with sample shots taken indoors, outdoors, and in low-light conditions. The results were impressive, with crisp images and good color reproduction. However, we did notice that the tap-to-focus feature can lead to underexposure in certain situations. Close-up shots taken at 3 inches from the subject also yielded great results. Additionally, the camera's macro mode allowed for sharp and detailed images of small subjects.

**Video Recording Capabilities**

The HTC Desire 501 can record video in 720p HD quality at a high bitrate. The internal microphone captures audio, which was satisfactory but could be improved. We recorded a short video walkie-talkie conversation to test the camera's ability to capture audio and footage simultaneously. The result showed that the phone struggled to maintain clear audio, producing a tinny sound similar to an iPhone 5C.

However, when recording video in indoor conditions with a cloudy sky, the camera performed well, capturing smooth footage without any significant noise or artifacts. We also noted that the autofocus feature worked seamlessly, adjusting exposure compensation and focusing on specific areas of interest.

**Additional Features and Usage Experience**

The HTC Desire 501 features various additional modes, including exposure compensation, P-Mode (panorama), and HDR mode. Users can also use tap-to-focus to quickly adjust focus without navigating through the menu. The phone's user interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to navigate and access camera settings.

We took the opportunity to test some of these features in real-world situations. By pointing the camera at an iPhone 5C box and tapping on a specific area, we achieved in-focus shots with selective focus effects. We also tested the auto-focusing feature by walking towards and then away from objects, which worked well without any noticeable lag.

**Sample Shots and Videos**

To give you a better idea of the HTC Desire 501's camera capabilities, we've included some sample shots taken indoors, outdoors, and in low-light conditions. The images showcase the phone's ability to capture sharp, detailed photos with good color reproduction, even in challenging lighting conditions.

Additionally, we recorded a short video walkie-talkie conversation to demonstrate the phone's audio quality issues. We also took some sample videos of ourselves walking around in our roof garden on a cloudy day, showcasing the camera's ability to capture smooth footage without significant noise or artifacts.

**Conclusion**

The HTC Desire 501 is an impressive mid-range Android phone that delivers excellent camera performance, making it an attractive option for photography enthusiasts. While there are some minor drawbacks, such as audio quality issues and exposure compensation limitations, the overall user experience is positive. With its quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 13MP rear-facing camera, this device is well-suited for everyday use, capturing high-quality images and videos.

**Rating:**

* Camera Performance: 9/10

* Audio Quality: 6/10

* Overall User Experience: 8.5/10

**Recommendation:**

If you're in the market for a mid-range Android phone with excellent camera capabilities, the HTC Desire 501 is worth considering. While it may not be perfect, its strengths make it an attractive option for those who value photography and video recording above other features.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi there this is Ranjit and welcome to my YouTube channel that's Kiki Ranjit and in this video we're going to do the camera review for this HTC desar 501 and actually I'm pretty impressed with the camera performance of this HTC desar 501 and I have taken a lot of sample shots and videos I'll show you that a bit later but let's talk about the camera the rear facing camera is a 8 megapix shooter with LED flash and also the good thing about this camera is that due to its low aperture that's F2 it can take actually pretty good photographs even in low lighting conditions I'll show you sample shots a bit later uh recording video it can record video up to 720P HD uh the front- facing camera I tested it with Skype and it's a 2.1 megap camera and before I show you the sample shots Etc uh let me show you the camera interface it's actually pretty simple and if you have used the HTC phones looks very similar uh you can directly take a shot by just tapping to area and if you click this it takes a shot and this hardly any shutter lag and uh if you want to take the video you can hit this and it takes the video directly we can also adjust and play around with FX Let Me Show You by hitting this button and using this you can create FX and it shows you what is happening in real time apart from that let me also show you some other settings if you click here you can access the settings as you can see uh video uh quality the max is supported is 720P HD and regarding the picture uh it can take in WID screen format and the largest resolution is 3264 by 1952 you can also go lower resolutions like this also you do get ISO adjustments and white balance if you want to do it manually but I did all my testing while keeping it to what do you say Auto setting and you can also adjust the flash if you want uh to Auto manual or off and if you click this we also have some scene effects like this and also h Str mode Panorama are there so actually we do get a lot of options and actually let me show you the sample shots that I took with this one for example these are the shots that I took indoors and actually I was pretty impressed with the camera performance of this desar 501 let me show you all these sample shots in full screen mode and the videos that I took so that you can get a better idea these pictures were shot with the desar 501 outdoors and it was a cloudy day but again as you can see the pictures came out to be actually pretty sharp and the color reproduction also was pretty good one thing I did notice is that it does have tap to focus but when you tap for example I ta it lowers the exposure these are kind of macro shots I took around 3 in from the subject and they also came out good closeup shot I'm recording this video with the HTC Zar 501 at the High setting possible that is 720p and the audio that is uh you're hearing is also being recorded by the internal microphone of this bizar 51 I'm just uh walking around in my roof garden now and it's a cloudy day actually it just uh P about an hour ago and we do have the option to tap to focus uh but it does uh seem to do autofocusing also and as you can see I'm as I'm moving uh it is trying to do a little bit of uh what do you say exposure compensation also just panning and now I'll just walk back normally uh the wind is also blowing so there might be a little bit of wind noise so this should give you an idea about the video recording ities of this HTC desar 501 on a cloudy day Outdoors these were shot in semi-indoor conditions and here I left flash to Auto and here the flash fired this is one more shot and this is in very low lighting conditions these shots were shot uh in my office in completely artificial light and here also I felt it did a good job these shots were without uh using the Flash and now I'll show you shs using the Flash here I had forc to flash for taking these pictures now I'm recording this video in completely AR visal light in my office and uh this should give you an idea how this desire 50 performs indors uh we do also have tab to focus so I'll just keep it like this and I'm hitting uh the iPhone 5c box and yes it can focus to that and now I'm foring focusing back to the headphones so you can selectively focused and that's nice but even without tapping uh it does uh autofocus but if you want to quickly Focus to a specific area we can just H the uh tap to the screen and it will focus for example I'll just focus on this blue microphone screen and as you can see the clock at the back is slightly blurred so I'll focus on that now and that is in Focus so kind of a VOA effect also you can get with this one so this should give you an idea about the video recording ities of this desar 501 indoors so what do I think about the camera performance of this HTC desar 501 as you've seen from the sample shots actually uh the pictures that it can take the rear facing camera are very good actually I was surprised uh considering that this H desire 501 is just a mid-range Android phone and uh I also like the video quality though it's just restricted to 720P HD the video quality was also very sharp and you could do selective focus as we have seen the only only Con in the video Department I would say was the audio department uh the audio was very teeny it was sounding like I was speaking from a 10 can so that was the only con apart from that I was highly impressed uh with the photographs it could take and also in low lighting conditions it could take a lot of photographs without very less noise also when the flash fires it's not very harsh and the pictures come out to be really decent so overall I would say if you're looking for an Android phone in the mid-range price bracket around 15 to 16,000 or something and camera is the highest priority I don't think so as of now there is any other Android phone uh in terms of camera performance that does better than this HTC desar 501 I'll also be doing a full in-depth review for this HTC desar 501 so if you aren't subscribed to my YouTube channel subscribe to the same I hope that you found this uh video helpful if you found it helpful I'll appreciate
