Growing Pains _ Psychedelic Platformer!

Growing Pains: A Platformer That Proves Even the Most Challenging Games Can Be Enjoyed

Hey guys, how's it going? My name is eposvox, and if you know me, you know that I'm terrible at platformers. Rarely will I ever actually want to play a platformer, but when you give an original interesting concept for a platformer to me and promise that I won't have too hard of a time with it and it'll support me using a gamepad instead of keyboard and mouse, I'm definitely going to give it a try. Growing Pains is no exception.

Growing Pains plays as some sort of weird furball porcupine looking guy through this psychedelic universe, escaping spike balls while trying to collect rainbow glowing fragments at the same time. Your character is constantly growing as well as the world around you; it constantly grows as you progress. There are advantages and disadvantages to limiting how much your furball grows with the in-game commands as well as speeding it up especially after you have died. There are a variety of different mechanics as far as momentum and jumping goes to allow you to really fly through the game if you're perceptive enough and know what you're doing with platformers, which trust me I'm not one of those people.

A lot of the levels are kind of just alphabet or number based, which is kind of interesting. It eventually just zooms out to bigger and bigger letters; letters in the alphabet and every time you go to a new area the previous area looks a lot smaller. I had a lot of fun with this game; it's now available on Steam, so if you're a fan of platformers, I would recommend checking it out.

I do want to just give a shout-out to their options menu and let me turn up the graphics to 2k. A lot of indie games I play don't even give you good resolution options at all, so I was kind of impressed by this. Obviously that's not a make or break thing for video games, but it was nice to get to give it a go and actually crank up the options how I like it. Growing Pains is available for five dollars on Steam if you get it soon; it's available for $3.99 on Steam on sale.

I know there are plenty of people who can literally just put hours and hours and hours into platformers, but this game was a little different. It wasn't something that I could put a whole lot of direct time into platformers or else I just want to scream and fight someone, so I put some time into Growing Pains and had quite a bit of fun with it. Although there are some tricky parts that eventually make me rage and quit out, but that's alright.
