The Art of Letting Go: Embracing the Power of Release

As we navigate our lives, we often find ourselves holding onto things that no longer serve us. Whether it's a relationship, a job, a possession, or even a habit, we can get caught up in the emotional attachment that comes with it. But what if I told you that holding on to these things is actually holding you back? That letting go of them can be a liberating experience that sets you free to move forward and create the life you truly desire.

I've experienced this firsthand in my own life. When we moved overseas, we had to sell everything we owned multiple times. It was a challenging process, but it also forced us to get clinical about what was truly important to us. We learned to let go of the things that were holding us back and make space for new experiences and connections. And you know what? It was incredibly freeing.

For me, this experience has taught me so much about myself and my capacity for growth. I've learned to be more discerning about what I want out of life and what's truly worth holding onto. I've also learned that the things we hold onto can either enhance or detract from our lives. It's a powerful realization that can have a profound impact on our relationships, careers, and overall well-being.

One of the biggest challenges we face is the pressure to keep up with societal expectations. We're often encouraged to accumulate possessions, status, and wealth as a measure of success. But what if I told you that this is actually a recipe for stagnation? That the more stuff we have, the more cluttered our minds become, and the less room there is for creativity, innovation, and connection.

I remember one particular moment when we were struggling to make ends meet in Copenhagen. We had dinner on boxes because we couldn't afford furniture. It was a humbling experience, but it also taught us the value of simplicity and resourcefulness. We learned that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones we don't see coming.

As I look back on our journey, I'm reminded of the power of release. When we let go of the things that no longer serve us, we create space for new experiences, relationships, and opportunities to emerge. It's a process that requires courage, self-awareness, and trust in the universe's plan.

So, how can you apply this principle to your own life? Start by taking an honest look at what's holding you back. Is it a toxic relationship? A dead-end job? A possession that no longer serves you? Whatever it is, I encourage you to consider letting it go. Not because it's easy, but because it's necessary.

Remember, your stuff has power over you. It can enhance your life or bring it down. The choice is yours. Take the time to reflect on what's truly important to you and what's holding you back. And then, take a deep breath and let go.

We've had some amazing conversations in this space, and I'm so grateful to have such an engaged community of people who are willing to dive deep into the topics that matter most. From relationships to spirituality, we've explored it all. And if you're new here, welcome! We're glad to have you on board.

As we approach 300,000 subscribers, I'm blown away by the community's growth and enthusiasm. It's a testament to the power of connection and shared purpose. We're honored to be a part of your journey, and we can't wait to see what's next.

So, here's a little secret: I was engaged to someone for 19 months before I married them. And yes, it wasn't an impulsive decision. It was a thoughtful and intentional choice that ultimately led me to where I am today. Don't take anything at face value – sometimes, the things that seem like the easiest or most obvious choices are actually the ones that require the most courage and trust.

As we close out this episode, I want to leave you with a message of hope and encouragement. You're not alone on this journey, and we're here to support you every step of the way. Remember, release is not about letting go of your dreams or aspirations – it's about making space for the things that truly matter.

So, take a deep breath, let go of what's holding you back, and trust that the universe has got your back. You are capable of creating the life you desire, and we're here to help you every step of the way. Cheers!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enyou guys are gonna be shocked by this one i'm just telling you right now i'm gonna buy this one you were just enjoying the moment you were having fun you know whatever jose all day and you were like that one looks good i like how you did that i don't know that's how you drink it hello and welcome to the house of valentina i'm valentina and my husband jack and i we run a real estate and design business out of the atlanta area and we're taking a little coffee break and we always love to be able to share these little chats with you because a lot of times we sit around and we have these little mini discussions in between like working on projects and we're like hey what do you think about this and yeah we were actually having this discussion while we were hauling stuff out of our basement recently yeah the other day we were covered in dust and sweat from walking up the stairs 600 times we weren't presentable then no cameras allowed no no filming there's no filming during that there's moments of shame we're schlepping things out of our basement crying like no just so aggravated by i say mistakes call them learning experiences call them a lapse in judgment less than ideal choices call them whatever they are learning experiences that's what i'm gonna go with there's some things that we have bought that we've decided that we're never buying again part of being a highly experimental person yes is that i'm always trying things and i don't think that that is a bad thing i think that it's okay to try things to learn i always learn something and that's what we were talking about as he's gathering things up and taking them off i was like you know what i actually learned a lot from that piece i learned a lot from this i learned i learned this from that and so i thought that we might actually share a lot of those learning experiences with you because a lot of what we're going to show you are purchases that we made quite a while ago and we've already corrected them in our own home and they've just been lingering down in the basement waiting for me to decide whether that was a permanent choice that's never coming back in or is it just on hold and maybe it will come back make sure you hit subscribe give us a big thumbs up and let us know down below in the comments which one of these mistakes well maybe you've made and if there's one that you've made that we didn't mention today we would love to hear it so we can learn from what you've done too yes let's learn together we all are together so all right let's jump into it all right sip of coffee it is the walk of shame this is this is like usually we do this in the cover of the night i was like okay bad judgment we don't normally air out our mistakes especially not online are you gonna put that down i'm i'm worried that you might get enthusiastic oh my gosh okay so when you're looking at this you're probably thinking to yourself what's wrong with that there's nothing wrong with this there's nothing wrong with it look whoa look look look no zipper there's no zipper if you've watched the channel for very long you know that we like to have pillows with zippers because then you can change them out the problem with buying pillows this is a seasonal item it has a snowflake pattern if we show it to you real close you'll see it has a snowflake pattern in it i bought it on a whim thinking that would be really pretty for our holiday decor and it was but the most irritating thing now is that i have to store an extra pillow and we just don't have that much storage and i don't want to have like literally just heaps of pillows piled up everywhere so even though up until now i haven't gotten rid of this it's probably not going to come back up i can't decide it's also fiberfill and it's not a good fiber fill i know they're getting better at providing fiberfill that's you know environmentally friendly and all this kind of stuff and it feels more like the down you can squish it and mold it but this pillow it's fiberfill and it feel it feels fiber it's not fun to sit on it's not comfy to really lean on there's literally nothing to it it's just fabric with some stuffing in it and it yeah yeah so now that it doesn't have a zipper i either have to take i could i could take the seam out and i could re-stuff it but i mean i don't have time for that this is not build-a-bear we don't have time to like stuff and put a heart in there no no so i know that that would be an easy fix but i just generally don't have time for that most people don't so i've just stopped i have stopped buying pillows that do not have zippers on them this is actually really it's actually kind of humiliating actually to like admit this but i think in a way this is a lot of these mistakes for me they're again i don't think they're mistakes i think they're learning experiences because when we moved back from being overseas we came back home well home for us is most the people that we know have very traditional homes and so when we came back home to atlanta and all the shops are more traditional and then all this all of our families have traditional things we were like okay we're just gonna like use some of those things that we learned in denmark but we're gonna apply them with these same things and what i've discovered about myself is that i typically don't i don't want a pattern like this i tired of it really fast so if you'll look at my home typically you won't see a lot of pattern because i tire of it now if you aren't one of those people and you could look at the same pattern for years on end some people are like that yeah yeah so my my learning experience you may not take the same thing out of it so you may look at this and go i hope she'd send that to me go to her goodwill i'll give you the address of our goodwill and oh my gosh did i ever love these lace ones oh my gosh do these have a moment in my home oh i bought them in multiple colors you guys have seen them all over my channel but i don't this isn't the look that i want in my home and now i've got these patterns that i just got tired of really fast so i've tried now now that i've had a couple little i wouldn't say they're fails because i learned from this that i really don't like super florally kind of patterns i was there with you during this and what i saw was not a fail which was more of a growth yeah because you really came back and we're like we're gonna be i guess we'll be modern traditionalists i guess we'll be we'll bring a little bit of denmark back to the suburbs and we tried yeah and we tried and this is all part of a journey i've been instead trying to focus more on building out things that are more lasting and purchasing cushion covers that are solid they don't have a lot of pattern i focused on instead materials like velvets and linens and i did all those in solids instead and i still have a couple patterns and i have a couple patterns that for me i just love but generally for me these sorts of florals ended up not being something that i felt at home in and so for you these might be exactly what you want and there's nothing wrong with us not being the exact same it's all part of the journey in discovering who you are and discovering what you love and what you don't love like i should play a breakup song memories running through the park we moved back from living in 1200 square feet nobody ever believes us when we say that but tiny we had 1200 square feet spread out over three years our refrigerator didn't even fit in the kitchen no spread out over three and a half floors so it wasn't no there were no big rooms there was this tiny room stacked on top of each other it was a row house yes and i love that house so did i know but when i got here i did not understand that now i had two-story ceilings i had these big rooms rooms that were bigger than our entire floor was yeah in the last last place and so i was in the habit of buying small things and i brought back a ton of small little tiny things and i had nowhere to put them and over the weekend i finally released quite a bit and that was it's literally been sitting there for six years because it's it was too small for me to use anywhere i don't think that buying extra small things is a mistake like this is something that could definitely be going into like a powder room to go on the you know on the counter but what i found is that it also creates a busy look when you have a lot of little things and the other thing that i've learned is that like for this one this is a base that doesn't actually hold water so are you serious yeah it literally leaks water out it's not meant to hold water this is therapy i would just recommend to think through your scale in your home think through what do you actually need think through the fact that even even things like books i'm buying bigger books i used to buy really tiny little books and i put the tiny books in the cabinet and i put out the big ones yeah so it's just things like that that have helped me to understand how i want to decorate going forward and how i want how i want to style my space in which it feels like it all just sort of comes together and it's not like all these little things and my mind gets exhausted like looking over a sea of lots of little things yeah because your home starts to feel like a store at that point yeah it does you guys are gonna be shocked by this one i'm just telling you right now gonna buy this one okay it does actually have a point okay we're we're covering our ears yes don't worry we talk about her okay i'm not beautiful i'm probably not going to get rid of her it's not you it's it's me it is just you deserve better than me i actually love this piece and i'm not planning on getting rid of this piece in particular but the reason i've got this one is because it really shows you how when i first started doing things i was really creating rooms that felt a little too themed part of that was because i just was i felt really lost because i i didn't have all the tools at my fingertips anymore i didn't have the shops that we had in denmark i didn't know where to even find stuff i was just really kind of struggling through like what am i gonna even do like am i now gonna take that style where things are like wispy and willowy and the way that i was doing things and then just use something really traditional and it was like i don't like rooms that feel themed i don't like when everything in the room matches so like in our bathroom we had the vanity that matched the faucets matched the mirrors matched the lights matched she matched the tub matched the linens it was just so themey i would definitely think about how you can mix genres and don't fall into the trap of not only only shopping at one store but only shopping one style really think about how you might want to mix things up and create something that feels a little bit more collected as if you've been to the flea markets of paris and all these other places and you've collected your home over time that's the feeling i want even if i just run to like you know home goods one day and grab something so yeah right i feel like it's not going forever i feel like i should be singing that song when she loves me this was an impulse buy we went to home goods i was shopping for clients i loved the bone i loved the black the problem is i didn't love the shape so a lot of times when you're impulse buying you'll tend to just grab things and you're like it's you're in that moment and you just grab something it's not the worst thing on the planet i could definitely see that going into someone else's home very easily i just i'm not into all this graphic pattern as much anymore i'm wanting something a little bit more subtle in the home now yeah and so that was kind of an impulse buy based off of how i was shopping before and not really realizing i'd moved past that and so i think a lot of times your impulse buys can kind of catch you because you're like oh that's not really where i'm going with things now i was building off of where i was going before so i think it's important to really take your time as you build out your home there's nothing wrong with grabbing something that actually leads us to the next one which is the other thing that i've stopped buying are things that are non-returnable i'm talking about items that you buy that cannot be refunded or returned at all and that's something that i have gotten really careful about and i would say that's more like as an adult yeah yeah when you hit your 30s and 40s and then you're like i should know better yeah because stores try to sneak it through like final purchase and you're like what what yeah what we were we were one place recently and something was final sale we didn't know about it until we went to return that and i was so upset because i'm like i would never have i would never have purchased that because i'm so funny about non-refundable items but it's if you go to an antique shop if you go to garage sales or estate sales there's a lot of different places that you might go even just beyond a store that will be final sale it's always hard too if you're ordering something custom i mull those purchases over i have gotten to where i never buy quick when it's a forever purchase yeah i think a lot of that goes back to one of the recent videos where you talked about always have a plan yeah because i think if you had a plan this guy probably would still be he probably was someone else at this point yeah because you didn't you were just like in the moment having a great time skipped the middle man yeah but you were just enjoying the moment you were having fun you know whatever rose all day and you were like that one looks good i like how you did that i don't know that's how you drink what's that that's how you drink your rose pop it back baby i think it's more like this isn't it i look a lot better when you do that so the more you drink the better who looking i get i think it's really hard when you are making purchases for your home if they're not refundable because you might get it home and it might not look good no that's always that's why that's plan matters so much even with the plan yeah and then it's like no this just doesn't work together so i try really hard never buy anything that's non-refundable and if it is a final sale that i'm gonna really take my time before i make that purchase because i am fed up with that walk of shame taking stuff back to the thrift store i i appreciate the fact that we're able to pass things forward and that part is what consoles my soul and i'm like look this is something that someone else is going to be excited about and they're going to enjoy sometimes if we're selling something and we're like you know what we're able to bless somebody else's life with this this is not this is not the worst thing that can happen yeah but a lot of times people will hold on to stuff that they've purchased maybe we want to go there feel threatened again when you've purchased something that doesn't work for you and you keep it forever even though it didn't work oh my gosh we we've gotten really fast about just letting it go and releasing it back into the wild and blessing someone else's life with it i see that in design consultations all the time where they'll write me and be like well i've had this table for 22 years i've never liked it but can you design around it like that i think it's time to get rid of the stuff get rid of it yeah let's not do the table anymore let's do something different you're better off selling it and getting something that you really love so that you wake up and you feel excited about life and i feel like you're gonna get that job that you want and your life's gonna feel better you're gonna have more joy yeah okay that's a different video i actually my chest actually hurts right now i'm like this is stressing me out well yeah i just imagine all the times that our neighbors have been like scandalous like sunday morning they're like and they're taking that coffee table and there it goes it just came in yesterday there it goes you know i think that makes us better at our jobs i think it makes it better at being able to help you guys and others so yeah i hope that all of our agony has been pretty good so the final one that i think that you just you've got to just oh this there's so much locked up in this one i feel like it's one of those that really needs its own entire video but then no one's going to click on it and that is taking the freebie because oh wow that is that has a lot of times so much emotional baggage that comes with it oh gosh sometimes there's pressure from your family sometimes there's pressure from a friend i think that a lot of times when you take too many free things they end up cluttering your life and i think they clutter your decision making i think they prevent you from being able to move forward i think they prevent you from being able to create what you really love and what you really enjoy and i maybe for us this is a little bit easier because we moved overseas and we had to sell everything we had multiple times multiple times we've gone back and forth several times and we've pretty much sold almost everything we owned four times and when you do that you just get more clinical about i this piece is not coming home with me and i think that i wish we'd been a little bit better at that even when we came back from copenhagen because for us we didn't think that there would be something better on the other side waiting for us i know we're getting really deep but i think when you let go of a lot of the things that are holding you back you find a new you on the other side of that and so for me that's why i'm not worried about it i don't worry about the things that i have learned so much about myself just in the last six years since we moved back from copenhagen i've grown and i've learned and then we've had those moments in our marriage and in our life together and with our kids and so i don't think that you should feel bad at all i think that you should look at your life and just say what do i want out of it and what things should go forward with me and start getting rid of the stuff that's holding you back because i really believe that your stuff has power over you it can enhance your life and it can also bring it down so we got super deep today we are definitely out of time i'm like oh my gosh i have so many emails to get back to but yeah i i love these moments with you i hope that you guys do as well we love to have some fun with you and i hope that you find just encouragement that you're not alone on this journey and we love that we're not alone either and that you guys are so understanding with us and you're like wow six years ago your house looked really different like yeah we didn't have a single cent that free stuff is what we were sitting on you know it really was we're very thankful for that we had dinner on boxes for a while we actually really did and we didn't have anything to sit on other than no we didn't even have furniture for a while we had nothing so we are very we just look at life as that these blessings come into our lives and then we're able to pass them forward to people and so i hope maybe that'll just help you as you go through your things to think about that next person that you're gonna that you need something and you can you're gonna be the one that gives it to them so yeah definitely yeah so if you're new here this is your first time watching one of our videos thank you for watching and make sure you hit subscribe hit subscribe because we have stuff like this we do i think there's a lot of them that have been around for a while and haven't hit subscribe i know i think you guys watch all the time hit subscribe yeah give us a thumbs up almost at 300 000 you guys i can't believe it we're almost at 300 000 subscribers i i can't i can't even process that i i'm blown away i know so yeah thank you two years ago there were a few thousand yeah oh my gosh it's amazing just get so emotional you guys truly truly are amazing yes yeah we just love this place where we're allowed to be ourselves and we're on a journey yeah if you guys don't read between the lines we're on a journey as well yeah so it's a great journey it really is we're glad that you're here with us on it so cheers you guys we'll see you in the next one bye you were not an impulse buy i was engaged to you for 19 months before i married you okay there was nothing impulsive about that maybe should have stopped more and maybe i should have but that is definitely not the first time in your life take that one that is youyou guys are gonna be shocked by this one i'm just telling you right now i'm gonna buy this one you were just enjoying the moment we're covering our ears yes don't worry we talk about her okay i'm not beautiful i'm probably not going to get rid of her it's not you it's it's me it is just you deserve better than me i actually love this piece and i'm not planning on getting rid of this piece in particular but the reason i've got this one is because it really shows you how when i first started doing things i was really creating rooms that felt a little too themed part of that was because i just was i felt really lost because i i didn't have all the tools at my fingertips anymore i didn't have the shops that we had in denmark i didn't know where to even find stuff i was just really kind of struggling through like what am i gonna even do like am i now gonna take that style where things are like wispy and willowy and the way that i was doing things and then just use something really traditional and it was like i don't like rooms that feel themed i don't like when everything in the room matches so like in our bathroom we had the vanity that matched the faucets matched the mirrors matched the lights matched she matched the tub matched the linens it was just so themey i would definitely think about how you can mix genres and don't fall into the trap of not only only shopping at one store but only shopping one style really think about how you might want to mix things up and create something that feels a little bit more collected as if you've been to the flea markets of paris and all these other places and you've collected your home over time that's the feeling i want even if i just run to like you know home goods one day and grab something so yeah right i feel like it's not going forever i feel like i should be singing that song when she loves me this was an impulse buy we went to home goods i was shopping for clients i loved the bone i loved the black the problem is i didn't love the shape so a lot of times when you're impulse buying you'll tend to just grab things and you're like it's you're in that moment and you just grab something it's not the worst thing on the planet i could definitely see that going into someone else's home very easily i just i'm not into all this graphic pattern as much anymore i'm wanting something a little bit more subtle in the home now yeah and so that was kind of an impulse buy based off of how i was shopping before and not really realizing i'd moved past that and so i think a lot of times your impulse buys can kind of catch you because you're like oh that's not really where i'm going with things now i was building off of where i was going before so i think it's important to really take your time as you build out your home there's nothing wrong with grabbing something that actually leads us to the next one which is the other thing that i've stopped buying are things that are non-returnable i'm talking about items that you buy that cannot be refunded or returned at all and that's something that i have gotten really careful about and i would say that's more like as an adult yeah yeah when you hit your 30s and 40s and then you're like i should know better yeah because stores try to sneak it through like final purchase and you're like what what yeah what we were we were one place recently and something was final sale we didn't know about it until we went to return that and i was so upset because i'm like i would never have i would never have purchased that because i'm so funny about non-refundable items but it's if you go to an antique shop if you go to garage sales or estate sales there's a lot of different places that you might go even just beyond a store that will be final sale it's always hard too if you're ordering something custom i mull those purchases over i have gotten to where i never buy quick when it's a forever purchase yeah i think a lot of that goes back to one of the recent videos where you talked about always have a plan yeah because i think if you had a plan this guy probably would still be he probably was someone else at this point yeah because you didn't you were just like in the moment having a great time skipped the middle man yeah but you were just enjoying the moment you were having fun you know whatever rose all day and you were like that one looks good i like how you did that i don't know that's how you drink what's that that's how you drink your rose pop it back baby i think it's more like this isn't it i look a lot better when you do that so the more you drink the better who looking i get i think it's really hard when you are making purchases for your home if they're not refundable because you might get it home and it might not look good no that's always that's why that's plan matters so much even with the plan yeah and then it's like no this just doesn't work together so i try really hard never buy anything that's non-refundable and if it is a final sale that i'm gonna really take my time before i make that purchase because i am fed up with that walk of shame taking stuff back to the thrift store i i appreciate the fact that we're able to pass things forward and that part is what consoles my soul and i'm like look this is something that someone else is going to be excited about and they're going to enjoy sometimes if we're selling something and we're like you know what we're able to bless somebody else's life with this this is not this is not the worst thing that can happen yeah but a lot of times people will hold on to stuff that they've purchased maybe we want to go there feel threatened again when you've purchased something that doesn't work for you and you keep it forever even though it didn't work oh my gosh we we've gotten really fast about just letting it go and releasing it back into the wild and blessing someone else's life with it i see that in design consultations all the time where they'll write me and be like well i've had this table for 22 years i've never liked it but can you design around it like that i think it's time to get rid of the stuff get rid of it yeah let's not do the table anymore let's do something different you're better off selling it and getting something that you really love so that you wake up and you feel excited about life and i feel like you're gonna get that job that you want and your life's gonna feel better you're gonna have more joy yeah okay that's a different video i actually my chest actually hurts right now i'm like this is stressing me out well yeah i just imagine all the times that our neighbors have been like scandalous like sunday morning they're like and they're taking that coffee table and there it goes it just came in yesterday there it goes you know i think that makes us better at our jobs i think it makes it better at being able to help you guys and others so yeah i hope that all of our agony has been pretty good so the final one that i think that you just you've got to just oh this there's so much locked up in this one i feel like it's one of those that really needs its own entire video but then no one's going to click on it and that is taking the freebie because oh wow that is that has a lot of times so much emotional baggage that comes with it oh gosh sometimes there's pressure from your family sometimes there's pressure from a friend i think that a lot of times when you take too many free things they end up cluttering your life and i think they clutter your decision making i think they prevent you from being able to move forward i think they prevent you from being able to create what you really love and what you really enjoy and i maybe for us this is a little bit easier because we moved overseas and we had to sell everything we had multiple times multiple times we've gone back and forth several times and we've pretty much sold almost everything we owned four times and when you do that you just get more clinical about i this piece is not coming home with me and i think that i wish we'd been a little bit better at that even when we came back from copenhagen because for us we didn't think that there would be something better on the other side waiting for us i know we're getting really deep but i think when you let go of a lot of the things that are holding you back you find a new you on the other side of that and so for me that's why i'm not worried about it i don't worry about the things that i have learned so much about myself just in the last six years since we moved back from copenhagen i've grown and i've learned and then we've had those moments in our marriage and in our life together and with our kids and so i don't think that you should feel bad at all i think that you should look at your life and just say what do i want out of it and what things should go forward with me and start getting rid of the stuff that's holding you back because i really believe that your stuff has power over you it can enhance your life and it can also bring it down so we got super deep today we are definitely out of time i'm like oh my gosh i have so many emails to get back to but yeah i i love these moments with you i hope that you guys do as well we love to have some fun with you and i hope that you find just encouragement that you're not alone on this journey and we love that we're not alone either and that you guys are so understanding with us and you're like wow six years ago your house looked really different like yeah we didn't have a single cent that free stuff is what we were sitting on you know it really was we're very thankful for that we had dinner on boxes for a while we actually really did and we didn't have anything to sit on other than no we didn't even have furniture for a while we had nothing so we are very we just look at life as that these blessings come into our lives and then we're able to pass them forward to people and so i hope maybe that'll just help you as you go through your things to think about that next person that you're gonna that you need something and you can you're gonna be the one that gives it to them so yeah definitely yeah so if you're new here this is your first time watching one of our videos thank you for watching and make sure you hit
