Creating a Scrapbook Ball: A Step-by-Step Tutorial
Hello and welcome to this tutorial on creating a scrapbook ball, a unique and thoughtful gift idea that can be customized with various embellishments. To get started, we will need the following materials:
* Cardstock of one or more colors
* Crafting glue
* Decopaper
* Downloadable template with measurements
* Photos of at least 5 cm in size
* Crystal or stick glue
* Ruler
* Scissors
* Compass
* Pencil and eraser
* Crease-tool
* Perforator
* Brooches
* A piece of thread
With these materials, we can begin creating our scrapbook ball. The first step is to cut the outline of a triangle using a table and cutter. We will use this as a base for our ball. It's essential to choose the right size, so make sure to measure carefully before cutting.
For example, I will be using a 6 cm diameter circle, which means the radius will be 3 cm. To achieve perfect circles, we need to take extra care when cutting. Use a sharp pencil and open the compass to the desired size to ensure accurate measurements. Trace 20 circles on the cardstock, using one color or multiple colors for a unique look. In my case, I decided to use five different colors.
Once you have cut all the circles, it's time to assemble the base of our ball. Take one circle and place it over the base, ensuring that the figure is centered. With a pencil, gently trace the outline, leaving aside any excess paper. Repeat this process for each circle, creating 20 identical circles with the same diameter.
Now it's time to create the folds in each triangle. Using an object with a rounded tip or the back of scissors, make lines on each circle where the triangles will meet. This will help you achieve a smooth and even surface. Erase any remaining pencil marks from the previous steps, leaving only the outlines of the triangles.
Take one circle and create a fold in each line of the triangle. Repeat this process for all the circles, separating five that will form the top petals of our ball. The next step is to decorate the inside of each figure with photos, decopaper, or other embellishments. You can use a simple method like tracing the outline and cutting, or get creative by using different techniques.
When decorating, make sure to leave some space in between each circle to create a seamless finish. For this tutorial, I will be using stickers and markers to add color and texture. Once you have completed all the figures, it's time to assemble them.
To glue the figures together, use stick glue, as liquid glue can cause the cardstock to lose its shape or develop wrinkles. Apply glue to each figure, ensuring they are well aligned before pressing them together. Repeat this process for each figure, starting with the top and working your way down.
For the bottom, we will need to add another layer of figures, but with a twist. The in-left tabs will be glued separately from the rest, creating an inverted effect. Take glue and apply it to the free tabs on the bottom, then place the figure on top, pressing gently to secure it in place. Repeat this process for each tab.
As you continue assembling the sphere, you may notice that the figures are forming pentagons. Don't worry; it's just a minor adjustment needed for the final result. With the base and top securely attached, it's time to add any finishing touches.
To close the sphere, take glue and apply it only to three tabs on the top, then press them into place. Make sure the gap is aligned properly before sealing it in place. The sphere is now complete, but there's still one final step: perforating the tabs to create a secure opening for any insertions.
To close the sphere, simply join the perforated tabs together as desired. You can even add brooches or other embellishments through the gap to give your scrapbook ball an extra touch of personality. Hang it on a Christmas tree or use it as a unique decoration for any occasion. And that's it! With these simple steps, you've created a beautiful and functional scrapbook ball.
