for you to see and for me to stand next to so that the Tower of video cards does not fall over which I promise never happened even once this is 16 graphics card tested in this video at 1080p there are three versions of this video because there were a total of 60 charts and 60 charts in one video is just way too much now I've covered all of these cards at different points over the past couple of months but not all in one place you'd have to open like six different videos in order to see all the results from all the cards at all the resolutions I'm making it easy for you and condensing it down and allowing you to compare all 16 side-by-side in one place since it is 60 charts and it's being split up this is the 1080p video and so if you're interested in seeing 1080p results from a $100 used rx 580 all the way up to an $1,100 RTX 2080 ti you've come to the right place now this video does not have every current available card you might consider buying a couple of notable exceptions are the will discuss specific video card suggestions and recommendations at the end of this video after the benchmarks we're trying to keep the beginning kind of short so we can just get to the charts but I Intel 660 P 2 terabyte and via me drive interesting note about the test bench that test bench is completely appropriate for the top half of these graphics cards if you have a 20 80 2080 Super or 20 80 TI of course you would have a system like that if you have an rx 580 or a GTX 1660 it's ridiculous but the point of the platform is to remove as much of the CPU as the limitation as possible to show you what the cards are physically capable of if your CPU is not as powerful then as you scale up the graphics cards you will have a fall-off in performance as the CPU comes more of a limitation especially at high frame rates so keep in mind that if you're gonna spend say 500 or more on a graphics card your computer itself your CPU and your RAM should be decent in order to take advantage of that finally if you would like to see all 60 charts without having to go through three videos and scrolling through all of this time I have a solution for you if you are a member of patreon link in the video description below I have made three posts over there 20 charts each so that you can actually see all of the charts in one place as a reference rather than having to scroll through a video if you're able to directly support the channel that's just a small extra benefit in addition to the tech deals discord access and a few other things that I provide from my patreon members that's entirely enough talking how about we go look at some benchmarks first up we have Assassin's Creed Odyssey yes I know everybody's favorite unoptimized game but as I like to say if a video card plays Assassin's Creed Odyssey it'll play anything here you can see the RX 5700 on the left and the RT x 2060 on the right I'm not even gonna remotely try to put all 16 recordings in here because that would be silly on one screen you couldn't read anything and if I did them in quad this video would be three hours long so I'm just picking out two cards per game that reflect what I think are well balanced options at the resolution that we're showing in the video these are 300 to 320 dollar cards depending upon what kind of deal what kind of mail-in rebate what games come with them etc and there are nicely balanced pair for 1080p gaming I know a lot of people call them 1440p cards I'll explain that later in the video they're not they're 1080p cards but for the moment you can see they run this actually remarkably well all things considered do notice the VRAM usage is different between them that's invidious texture compression at work for those curious here are all sixteen cards the red bars are naturally the AMD cards at the top of the screen and the Nvidia cards in green are in the bottom I just picked red and green making them rainbow makes the chart very hard to read the RX 580 on the very top at 52 frames per second does hold 60 this was done at very high detail if you lower it to high detail gets closer to 60 the RX 590 does and of course if he turned down the clouds and Assassin's Creed Odyssey and the shadows to medium you get a huge performance boost so that's a optimization trick there for you if you're interested notice the gtx 1660 is not dramatically faster than an rx 580 or 590 it's a bit but it's also more expensive the ti has a noticeable performance jump but not far beyond that you see the RT X 2060 which I showed you if you have a high refresh rate monitor say a hundred and forty-four Hertz monitor and frankly 1080p 144 Hertz monitors are no longer very expensive you will notice that none of these video cards will do it an RT X xx atti on a 5 gigahertz eye 9 only does 113 frames per second now you can lower the detail and it will pick up that framerate a bit of course this is the saucers create Odyssey but if you want to play in honey frame rates in triple-a games it takes a lot of computer to do it the RT X 2070 super does 97 the rx 5700 XT does 94 very competitive those two cards are right there and the 5700 XT is cheaper at 1080p the minimum frame rates are jumbled all over the place don't look at this chart too closely this is the last series of benchmarks I'm doing with minimums even on built in benchmarks I've already switched to 1% lows so this will be probably the last time you ever see these it's just a mess at 1440p and 4k they're more consistent but that's more the games fault than anything else dollar cost per frame per second card only not taking into account the cost of the system which will compress these numbers of it but of course the used cards are the deal the rx 580 and 590 and even the Vega 56 which I've got priced here at $200 because you can find those for 200 those are the deal but they're used and so that should be taken into account as well in terms of new cards the actual value in my opinion is the RX 5700 or 5700 XT yes the 5700 XT is a little bit more expensive but you're getting more performance and when put into a computer those two are about equal the RT X 2070 super is nearly $1 per frame per second more being $100 more expensive than the 5700 XT if you prefer Nvidia and you prefer Nvidia features then by all means get an RT X 2070 super and get either equal performance or slightly better performance but of course you're gonna pay a bit more it just depends upon whether or not you're ok to pay a premium for Nvidia the Radeon 7 looks ridiculous because it's still $700 even on ebay they're $700 and a 20/80 super and a 2080 ti but they're nice they're the best they're the fastest if you just won the lottery last night rock on but at 1080p they're kind of ridiculous All Things Considered percentage difference this chart takes the RX 580 and normalizes it to 100% and then takes all the other cards and indicates how much faster than an RX 580 are there I mentioned before the GTX 1660 was faster but not by much how much so 25% if you want to know in terms of relative percentage terms this gives you that idea a 1660 Ti is 42% faster than an Rx 580 whereas an Rx 5,700 XT is 81 percent faster than a 580 to get to 200% requires you spend all the money on the 2080 TI which makes no sense whatsoever but it's there looking back at the 5700 XT the 2060 super is 8 percent slower and the 2070 super is 6 percent faster so it's like right in between those two cards effectively it's a $50 better deal because it's faster than 2060 super for the same 2060 super money but not quite as fast as a 2070 super moving on to far cry new dawn the fully priced DLC - far cry 5 yeah I know but whatever we are showing you to lower level GPUs this time the RX 580 on the left and the GTX 1660 on the right now at new prices these are actually pretty comparable the RX 580 is cheaper new than 1660 but the 1660 is faster it's just that you can get the rx 580 for such a good deal used that makes it so incredibly compelling notice that the 1660 is faster here but not tremendously and just like on Assassin's Creed notice that it's using a little bit less view ram not tremendously so here but it is using a little bit less because of that Nvidia texture compression it doesn't completely make up for the lack of two gigabytes of vram but it helps it's part of the equation all things considered and we're getting remarkably good performance out of relatively low-level graphics chips keep in mind this is ultra detail you're looking at right here this is not high so turn the detail down a notch and get even better performance 72 frames per second average at 1080p Ultra on the RX 580 versus 84 frames per second 1080p Ultra on the 1660 if you're comparing new cards and new prices that 1660 is compelling it's just that in this case I'm comparing it to a $100 used 580 notice the performance compression as we move up the performance scale those are CPU bottlenecked the r-tx 20 80 20 80 super 20 80 TI even the RX 5700 XT and Radeon 7008 it's this game it doesn't use all the cores and threads effectively and it simply compresses all of the numbers in the 1440p and 4k video you'll see a much larger spread of performance because the graphics card can breathe but in this particular case that 1080 Ti is only running at about 50% usage because it's so completely bottlenecked by our CPU the minimum numbers show basically the same thing once you get above a certain level the game engine the core count simply blocks any further performance at least at 1080p but again how many of you are really buying 20 80 supers for 1080p gaming hopefully most of you aren't at least not to play this sort of game dollar cost per frame per second now this chart looks awful because of the game engine limitation at 1080p and you can see that spending a lot of money on a graphic card for this doesn't matter this is why we test multiple games at multiple resolutions because this chart at 1440p and 4k looks completely different than it does at 1080p notice that dollar 39 on the RX 580 that's that hundred dollar price point working for you there buy it new and that changes and that just goes to show what a deal that card really is percentage difference chart showed the same thing effectively a r-tx 20 60 or 20 60 super or an RX 5700 or 5700 xt if you want a small performance boost that's where it sort of falls off at 1080p and if you want a video card that will play games at 1080p for the next three years as I'm about to tell you at the end of the video that's where you should be looking well farcry new dawn does not scale very well with graphics cards gears 5 does I'm doing something a bit different this time on the Left we have the best of the currently available AMD cards the RX 5700 XT and on the right we have the best of the Nvidia cards that are TX 2080 ti I know these are completely different price points the 2080 ti is up to three times the price of the 5700 XT but it's faster and if you have a 1080p 144 Hertz monitor or 240 Hertz monitor well this just goes to show you that you can run beautiful modern big splashy titles at high frame rates but it doesn't give you the kind of boost you might expect if you're expecting double or triple the performance you're gonna be tragically disappointed and it isn't really the CPU or the game engine holding this back here because take a look at the graphics card utilization both of them are fully utilized the 20/80 ti is fast and it is faster at higher resolution there's the detail setting since there's no presets I left it in so you could verify yes I did in fact have all the details the same it's faster but it's not mind-blowing ly faster here you can see the average frame rates across all the cards 59 and 57 on the 580 and the 1660 you go to 67 and 67 on the 590 and the 1660 ti and then it moves up the chain you can see that we get a hundred and thirteen frames per second on the 5700 XT versus 144 frames per second on the 2080 TI you can see no neck-and-neck the 2070 super is very similar in performance to the 5700 XT spend a whole lot more money and hit that magic 144 frames per second of course this is ultra detail if you lower it too high if you bring some of those down a bit then all these cards will speed up at minimum frame rates again the 2080 TI is the winner but poi not by much 89 to 109 that is a minor difference for the price difference of those cards the real value these days if you're looking for performance for the money and you don't mind the three to four at our price point is of course the middle of the market dollar cost per frame per second and Vidya cost more than AMD film at 11 I know you're all tremendously shocked a 2070 super is four dollars and thirty nine cents per frame per second versus 354 on the 5700 XT AMD is cheaper again it doesn't have the features of the Nvidia card if you care but if you don't well go AMD you'll save yourself some money percentage difference chart this was an odd one I wasn't expecting this the 1660 was slower by 3% to the 580 but then of course they scale pretty smoothly all the way up notice the terrible value of the Radeon 7 because the 5700 XT beats it not quite as much at higher resolutions but still it just doesn't make any sense for what that card currently costs the 2070 super and the 5700 XT are neck-and-neck next up we have Ghost Recon wildlands yes I know breakpoint is now out but when these benchmarks were done it wasn't so you're getting wild lambs in the future I'll be doing break point we have the Vega 56 this time paired up to the GTX 1660 T I now the vega 56 was recently widely available for $299 I bought my triple fan power color card for $299 off of Amazon a few months ago but lately those have dried up but you can find the muse for around 200 although a lot of those are blower cards and it's worth considering if you're looking for a $200 card with this level of performance since the 1660 Ti is closer to 300 and really the RT X 2060 makes more sense but well it is what it is in any case let's take a look at the results at 1080p very high detail not ultra because Ultra is ridiculous and crushes frame rates and is pointless run this game it very high because Ultra is punishing same thing with the Assassin's Creed Odyssey I ran that at very high because Ultra is just punishing pointlessly for very little detail the Vega 56 did 79 frames per second average versus 82 on the 1660 ti but if you're ok with a used card and you pick one up for around $200 that's effectively the same performance for a really good price granted new versus used it doesn't come with a free game and so on and so forth but that's certainly your choice now if you can find one new for under 300 it might be worth considering as you move up the product stack notice that the RX 5700 which has been available for 330 is 97 frames per second and that's why I wouldn't pay 300 for a Vega 56 now is because the 5,700 exists runs cooler runs quieter runs faster new technology etc compared to the RT ex 2060 which is at ninety three so the Nabi cards are faster and then the 2060 super 104 interestingly enough the 2070 is also 104 but you go to 115 for the 2070 super 117th of the 2081 24 for the 2080 Super and if you just have to have that sweet sweet 144 frames per second I hope you have an arm and a leg to sell because the 2080 TI is your thing moving on to the minimums they scale very similar to the average frame rates yes yes 1% lows we'll get to that in the next round off benchmarks but for now this is what we've got overall all things considered this game runs very smooth and stable on any of these cards it's just the bottom two or three cards I would lower it to high detail but it's actually very playable on an RX 5 $80.00 per frame per second how many more of these do you need to see before you know the message AMD is a better deal than nvidia news flash film at 11:00 for those of you new to the pc business well now you know but for everybody else i'm sure at least some of you are out there looking at your monitor right now going duh it is it's a better deal if you can get away with it i would like to point something out on this chart the RX 580 at high detail is very playable in this game very highs a little bit rough but but high is very playable the RX 5700 xt is 75% faster for 400 percent of the price it's $400 versus $100 of a used RX 9 oh we're using use prices here i mean if you go with the new price or closer to 200 it's not as bad but it's really tough for the new cards at three to four hundred dollars to compete when there's such a wide selection at least at the moment of the used 5 80s 5 90s Vega 56 s and so on shadow of the Tomb Raider I'm only showing you the first segment of this because you get the point in the video has been going on long enough rx 5700 XT great value on the left for $400 RT x 2080 super for $700 not as good of a value but look at the CPU usage as we go through this shadow of the Tomb Raider is one of the new generation of games that legitimately will use all eight cores of a processor you'll see it jump up here in a second it's certainly very situational and it's not yet required but it does give a little bit of a boost especially if you've got a premium graphics card now we don't have the 2080 ti here but I showed you that already so I'm trying to show you something a bit different a hundred and forty frames per second average on the 2080 Super that's really nice except we do 119 frames per second on a 5,700 XT which is nearly half the price I really like the Nvidia cards but their card prices above a 2060 super are a bit nuts I kinda can get around the 2070 super a hundred and twenty seven frames per second for 500 okay if the 20/80 super was 600 was $5.99 I wouldn't mind as much it's still a premium but okay but it's 700 if you're playing at 1080p you really don't need these a friendly reminder that the RX 580 will play this just fine at 1080p it's 63 at highest detail lower to high you get a bit more and the Vega 56 if you can find one for $200 88 frames per second if you can get that at that price point that's a deal 49 frames per second on the 580 which is why you should lower it to high detail but look at the 68 frames per second on the Vega 56 that's maintaining a minimum of over 60 frames per second and it'll hold to about 60 in the actual game in various places at the highest detail at 1080p the 5700 XT is 94 which is a nice jump over that and if you don't if you want a new card with the free games that come with it it might actually be worth the 400 versus 204 Vega 56 if you value the free games as far as the 2080 Super yeah Wow awesome holy smokes 111 frames per second minimum yay $700 what what am I supposed to say it's just not the deal this is where I'd like to insert a joke about the fact that Nvidia's shill cheque did not clear but some of you wouldn't understand the joke and so I won't make that in any case I am DS the better deal than Nvidia is finally we've got the percentage difference charts now I'm about to go through all the cards here in detail separate in the mountain on desk and talking about them in broader terms but the fact of the matter is spend more get more and if you're not worried about the deal and your budget nearly so much as you are having a superior experience especially with a high frame rate monitor by all means move up the product stack and get a more expensive card I would submit that you really don't need anything more than a 5,700 XT or a 2060 super at 1080p that's probably the sweet spot everything beyond that is boy you better have luxury levels of money to make sense of it but here you go here's the percentage difference it certainly works its way up with every card so what do I really think about all these graphics well I'm gonna take them step by step in all of my comments here directly reference 1080p resolution I will have different comments for 1440p and 4k in the other two videos . @ 1080p right now there is no better deal on the market than a $100 RX 588 gigabyte card no it doesn't have three plus years of gaming in front of it at that resolution for the latest Triple A games no it isn't the most powerful card here in fact it's the weakest but for $100 the price to perform it simply cannot be beaten but that is a used card price and not everybody wants a used card and I certainly understand that we'll talk about some of the new options in a second the RX 590 makes no sense it's currently running about $50 more used at 150 the performance doesn't justify the price so unless it's really really cheap or close to the price of the 580 skip it the Vegas the Vegas are interesting cards they're great 1080p cards and they have some future in front of them for 1080p I don't know that they have three years of future in front of them in fact I'm willing to say they don't have three years of future in front of them for the latest Triple A games they certainly do if you have more modest expectations but if you want to play every Ghost Recon game every Assassin's Creed game every Tomb Raider game that comes out for the next three years at high detail 60 plus frames per second I think they're gonna run out of steam sooner than three years but you can always turn the detail down to medium and they'll be fine right now you can get a Vega 56 used for about $200 it's not a bad deal but most of those are blower cards and are hot and loud and I'm not jumping up and down about them the Vegas 64 is are an even worse value now I have a spectacular card here and this is not loud and it doesn't run too hot I mean it's still warm but the fans work really well but this nitro card sells at a premium and you're gonna spend way too much for this at least at the moment lest you find a deal otherwise they're about $300 and for $300 I'd buy a navvy before I would buy a Vegas 64 I'd buy you know an on xt 5700 so if you can get these for a really good deal fine if not that I would skip them I will talk about the card that's not here when we get to the end of all this if you want a new graphics card today for 1080p high detail gaming and 3/4 plus hundred dollars is just out of your budget the non TI version of the gtx 1660 is your new friend the sixteen fifty is too slow there's a reason I didn't even bother and the sixteen sixty TI does not justify its price there's currently only about a thirty dollar price difference between the TI and the RT X 2060 that's ridiculous if you're going to spend the price of this go buy an RT X but you can find the non TI 1664 real close to $200 and if $200 is your budget and 1080p high detail gaming is your thing you know I don't know that you're going to get three years out of it but it'll be close and if you're flexible with a couple of detail settings you can probably squeeze it to three years normally the 60 series of cards will let you run three years without a problem the GTX 1060 certainly did but we have kind of a weird situation where we have 260 cards the GTX and the r-tx which have kind of muddied the waters a little bit in any case out of the two this is the one that I would buy if I'm looking at this price point let's just get the Radeon seven or eight out of the way don't bother hard pass at the current prices these are going for at the moment I mean if you already own one fine keep it you bought it live with it in fact actually if you own one I might consider selling and buying something else but there's nothing wrong with the card I did a whole video on it we'll leave this one where it is ladies and gentlemen boys and girls allow me to introduce you to the new mainstream cards three to four hundred dollars 1080p high detail gaming don't all yell at me at once before you all run to the comment section below although please do leave me a comment because it helps with the YouTube algorithm before you all go complain in the comment section yes these are primarily intended to be 1080p cards now I am fully aware of the fact that 1440p these will pretty much play any available game today 60 to 100 frames per second without any trouble whatsoever raise your hand if any of you want to spend $400 on a graphics card for 1440p gaming for one year maybe 18 months anybody yeah I didn't think so these are not three year cards for 1440p I understand that maybe the super and the XT 5700 will do pretty well if you're playing a few just the detail settings and you don't want to play all the new games but if you're the kind of person who plays the latest release of all the major franchises and all the pretty beautiful big-budget games every year you're going to be disappointed these are effectively this generations rx 580 and 1064 a lot more money don't blame the messenger I didn't set the prices AMD and NVIDIA did this this generations three year cards just cost more than the previous generation did it's just the way it is if you want 1080p high detail 60 to 100 frames per second in all current games and for the next three years in all the upcoming games you have to spend this much money at least if you're buying new there are a couple of used options you can go with in the slightly less than this but not much they use 10 70 or 1080 Ti is not going to be substantially cheaper than milah ten seventy will be a 1080 it's a better choice if you want that but do you want new this is what you're looking at my advice is if you're going to this level skip The Pretenders and go for the XT or go for the Super eight gigs of ram versus six gigs of ram faster overall performance yes you can buy these for a little bit less but if you've got 320 to 350 dollars spend the four hundred and just get the good one and then finally we have the high end of the stack starting at 500 and going all the way up to 1100 or more depending upon which card you get NVIDIA has no competition here which is why the prices are higher and as you soften the dollar cost per frame per second charts these are not really that great of a value they aren't quite as bad once you put them into the cost of a machine if you build a nice fancy machine around them progressively going up this scale isn't a bad as those charts would indicate because if you rap $2,000 of computer around one of these cards well then the 11-hundred here is not so bad because you're only adding 50% of the price of the machine but it's a decent performance job if you're doing $1,000 for the computer this is absolutely ridiculous putting this in a thousand dollar computer to be at 2,100 is way overkill something like a 27 or 28 II would make more sense if you want to do that if you're looking for a 1440p card I know this isn't the 1440p video this is kind of where you want to be at so all of you 1080p gamers should just ignore this right well that depends how important is a hundred and forty-four frames per second to you as you saw throughout the charts in terms of Triple A games if you want all games if you've got a 1080p 144 Hertz monitor and you want high frame rates in everything that you play and you want high frame rates for the next three years allow me to introduce you to the ridiculous RTX 2080 ti4 1080p gaming I hope you have a $9.99 hundred K because anything else would be ridiculous this is not a good value for 1080p gaming in any stretch of the definition however if you are a premium gamer and high frame rates are everything there you go you can of course compromise by doing a 2080 super or 2070 super they're certainly a much better value for the money and if you want high frame rates and you want to compromise a bit and not go ridiculous there are reasonable choices these are really 1440p cards in terms of even reasonable hundred-plus frames per second for 1440p cards and we'll revisit these in more detail in the 1440p video but I just want to mention that if you're a serious ultra uber professional gamer there you go here's the short sweet version at the end of the video double gold stars to everybody who made it this far the four cards for 1080p gaming that I would make any kind of argument behind buying are these for value for the money current games on a budget rx 580 used if you want a three year plus card if you just want us and performance without worrying about for the next three years get an RT X 2060 super or an rx 5700 XT if you want high frame rates but you're not crazy with your budget get a 2080 super I know the 2070 super seems like a better deal but once you put in a computer it's really not and this is faster and if you want high frame rates I would spend the $700 and get one the 2080 TI really makes no sense at 1080p unless you just have no budget whatsoever because you can spend whatever you want but these are the four cards at 1080p at the four different tiers that have some kind of argument that makes any kind of sense the RX 5500 is coming soon I don't have one at the time of filming this video it may end up replacing the rx 580 but I don't know that it will because there's going to be a four gigabyte version of it why AMD eight gigs it's almost 2028 gig should be the new minimum but whatever so there's a four gig and an 8 gig version of that we'll have to see what their price and their performance and everything else is otherwise that's the 1080p 16 GPU comparison video I like this video if the market today feeling squeezed between all of the options today we have 16 graphics cards to compare in a single video this is gonna be a big one folks sit back relax grab your favorite drink of choice and let's unpack this shall we well there we go that's a whole lot easier for you to see and for me to stand next to so that the Tower of video cards does not fall over which I promise never happened even once this is 16 graphics card tested in this video at 1080p there are three versions of this video because there were a total of 60 charts and 60 charts in one video is just way too much now I've covered all of these cards at different points over the past couple of months but not all in one place you'd have to open like six different videos in order to see all the results from all the cards at all the resolutions I'm making it easy for you and condensing it down and allowing you to compare all 16 side-by-side in one place since it is 60 charts and it's being split up this is the 1080p video and so if you're interested in seeing 1080p results from a $100 used rx 580 all the way up to an $1,100 RTX 2080 ti you've come to the right place now this video does not have every current available card you might consider buying a couple of notable exceptions are the gtx 1070 used and the gtx ten ATT i used both of which are worth considering and i simply didn't have tested for this i will cover them in an upcoming video as well as the new launches coming soon I will discuss specific video card suggestions and recommendations at the end of this video after the benchmarks we're trying to keep the beginning kind of short so we can just get to the charts but I will have a discussion after the charts are over about what cards are useful for what and some of the cards that configuration today is the IEEE 999 hundred K at 5 gigahertz cooled by a Noctua NHD 15 tower cooler an excellent choice for such a powerful CPU we have 16 gigabytes of ddr4 4,000 co19 provided by patriot our boot drive is a samsung 970 pro very sweet drive and then all of the games were installed on an Intel 660 P 2 terabyte and via me drive interesting note about the test bench that test bench is completely appropriate for the top half of these graphics cards if you have a 20 80 2080 Super or 20 80 TI of course you would have a system like that if you have an rx 580 or a GTX 1660 it's ridiculous but the point of the platform is to remove as much of the CPU as the limitation as possible to show you what the cards are physically capable of if your CPU is not as powerful then as you scale up the graphics cards you will have a fall-off in performance as the CPU comes more of a limitation especially at high frame rates so keep in mind that if you're gonna spend say 500 or more on a graphics card your computer itself your CPU and your RAM should be decent in order to take advantage of that finally if you would like to see all 60 charts without having to go through three videos and scrolling through all of this time I have a solution for you if you are a member of patreon link in the video description below I have made three posts over there 20 charts each so that you can actually see all of the charts in one place as a reference rather than having to scroll through a video if you're able to directly support the channel that's just a small extra benefit in addition to the tech deals discord access and a few other things that I provide from my patreon members that's entirely enough talking how about we go look at some benchmarks first up we have Assassin's Creed Odyssey yes I know everybody's favorite unoptimized game but as I like to say if a video card plays Assassin's Creed Odyssey it'll play anything here you can see the RX 5700 on the left and the RT x 2060 on the right I'm not even gonna remotely try to put all 16 recordings in here because that would be silly on one screen you couldn't read anything and if I did them in quad this video would be three hours long so I'm just picking out two cards per game that reflect what I think are well balanced options at the resolution that we're showing in the video these are 300 to 320 dollar cards depending upon what kind of deal what kind of mail-in rebate what games come with them etc and there are nicely balanced pair for 1080p gaming I know a lot of people call them 1440p cards I'll explain that later in the video they're not they're 1080p cards but for the moment you can see they run this actually remarkably well all things considered do notice the VRAM usage is different between them that's invidious texture compression at work for those curious here are all sixteen cards the red bars are naturally the AMD cards at the top of the screen and the Nvidia cards in green are in the bottom I just picked red and green making them rainbow makes the chart very hard to read the RX 580 on the very top at 52 frames per second does hold 60 this was done at very high detail if you lower it to high detail gets closer to 60 the RX 590 does and of course if he turned down the clouds and Assassin's Creed Odyssey and the shadows to medium you get a huge performance boost so that's a optimization trick there for you if you're interested notice the gtx 1660 is not dramatically faster than an rx 580 or 590 it's a bit but it's also more expensive the ti has a noticeable performance jump but not far beyond that you see the RT X 2060 which I showed you if you have a high refresh rate monitor say a hundred and forty-four Hertz monitor and frankly 1080p 144 Hertz monitors are no longer very expensive you will notice that none of these video cards will do it an RT X xx atti on a 5 gigahertz eye 9 only does 113 frames per second now you can lower the detail and it will pick up that framerate a bit of course this is the saucers create Odyssey but if you want to play in honey frame rates in triple-a games it takes a lot of computer to do it the RT X 2070 super does 97 the rx 5700 XT does 94 very competitive those two cards are right there and the 5700 XT is cheaper at 1080p the minimum frame rates are jumbled all over the place don't look at this chart too closely this is the last series of benchmarks I'm doing with minimums even on built in benchmarks I've already switched to 1% lows so this will be probably the last time you ever see these it's just a mess at 1440p and 4k they're more consistent but that's more the games fault than anything else dollar cost per frame per second card only not taking into account the cost of the system which will compress these numbers of it but of course the used cards are the deal the rx 580 and 590 and even the Vega 56 which I've got priced here at $200 because you can find those for 200 those are the deal but they're used and so that should be taken into account as well in terms of new cards the actual value in my opinion is the RX 5700 or 5700 XT yes the 5700 XT is a little bit more expensive but you're getting more performance and when put into a computer those two are about equal the RT X 2070 super is nearly $1 per frame per second more being $100 more expensive than the 5700 XT if you prefer Nvidia and you prefer Nvidia features then by all means get an RT X 2070 super and get either equal performance or slightly better performance but of course you're gonna pay a bit more it just depends upon whether or not you're ok to pay a premium for Nvidia the Radeon 7 looks ridiculous because it's still $700 even on ebay they're $700 and a 20/80 super and a 2080 ti but they're nice they're the best they're the fastest if you just won the lottery last night rock on but at 1080p they're kind of ridiculous All Things Considered percentage difference this chart takes the RX 580 and normalizes it to 100% and then takes all the other cards and indicates how much faster than an RX 580 are there I mentioned before the GTX 1660 was faster but not by much how much so 25% if you want to know in terms of relative percentage terms this gives you that idea a 1660 Ti is 42% faster than an Rx 580 whereas an Rx 5,700 XT is 81 percent faster than a 580 to get to 200% requires you spend all the money on the 2080 TI which makes no sense whatsoever but it's there looking back at the 5700 XT the 2060 super is 8 percent slower and the 2070 super is 6 percent faster so it's like right in between those two cards effectively it's a $50 better deal because it's faster than 2060 super for the same 2060 super money but not quite as fast as a 2070 super moving on to far cry new dawn the fully priced DLC - far cry 5 yeah I know but whatever we are showing you to lower level GPUs this time the RX 580 on the left and the GTX 1660 on the right now at new prices these are actually pretty comparable the RX 580 is cheaper new than 1660 but the 1660 is faster it's just that you can get the rx 580 for such a good deal used that makes it so incredibly compelling notice that the 1660 is faster here but not tremendously and just like on Assassin's Creed notice that it's using a little bit less view ram not tremendously so here but it is using a little bit less because of that Nvidia texture compression it doesn't completely make up for the lack of two gigabytes of vram but it helps it's part of the equation all things considered and we're getting remarkably good performance out of relatively low-level graphics chips keep in mind this is ultra detail you're looking at right here this is not high so turn the detail down a notch and get even better performance 72 frames per second average at 1080p Ultra on the RX 580 versus 84 frames per second 1080p Ultra on the 1660 if you're comparing new cards and new prices that 1660 is compelling it's just that in this case I'm comparing it to a $100 used 580 notice the performance compression as we move up the performance scale those are CPU bottlenecked the r-tx 20 80 20 80 super 20 80 TI even the RX 5700 XT and Radeon 7008 it's this game it doesn't use all the cores and threads effectively and it simply compresses all of the numbers in the 1440p and 4k video you'll see a much larger spread of performance because the graphics card can breathe but in this particular case that 1080 Ti is only running at about 50% usage because it's so completely bottlenecked by our CPU the minimum numbers show basically the same thing once you get above a certain level the game engine the core count simply blocks any further performance at least at 1080p but again how many of you are really buying 20 80 supers for 1080p gaming hopefully most of you aren't at least not to play this sort of game dollar cost per frame per second now this chart looks awful because of the game engine limitation at 1080p and you can see that spending a lot of money on a graphic card for this doesn't matter this is why we test multiple games at multiple resolutions because this chart at 1440p and 4k looks completely different than it does at 1080p notice that dollar 39 on the RX 580 that's that hundred dollar price point working for you there buy it new and that changes and that just goes to show what a deal that card really is percentage difference chart showed the same thing effectively a r-tx 20 60 or 20 60 super or an RX 5700 or 5700 xt if you want a small performance boost that's where it sort of falls off at 1080p and if you want a video card that will play games at 1080p for the next three years as I'm about to tell you at the end of the video that's where you should be looking well farcry new dawn does not scale very well with graphics cards gears 5 does I'm doing something a bit different this time on the Left we have the best of the currently available AMD cards the RX 5700 XT and on the right we have the best of the Nvidia cards that are TX 2080 ti I know these are completely different price points the 2080 ti is up to three times the price of the 5700 XT but it's faster and if you have a 1080p 144 Hertz monitor or 240 Hertz monitor well this just goes to show you that you can run beautiful modern big splashy titles at high frame rates but it doesn't give you the kind of boost you might expect if you're expecting double or triple the performance you're gonna be tragically disappointed and it isn't really the CPU or the game engine holding this back here because take a look at the graphics card utilization both of them are fully utilized the 20/80 ti is fast and it is faster at higher resolution there's the detail setting since there's no presets I left it in so you could verify yes I did in fact have all the details the same it's faster but it's not mind-blowing ly faster here you can see the average frame rates across all the cards 59 and 57 on the 580 and the 1660 you go to 67 and 67 on the 590 and the 1660 ti and then it moves up the chain you can see that we get a hundred and thirteen frames per second on the 5700 XT versus 144 frames per second on the 2080 TI you can see no neck-and-neck the 2070 super is very similar in performance to the 5700 XT spend a whole lot more money and hit that magic 144 frames per second of course this is ultra detail if you lower it too high if you bring some of those down a bit then all these cards will speed up at minimum frame rates again the 2080 TI is the winner but poi not by much 89 to 109 that is a minor difference for the price difference of those cards the real value these days if you're looking for performance for the money and you don't mind the three to four at our price point is of course the middle of the market dollar cost per frame per second and Vidya cost more than AMD film at 11 I know you're all tremendously shocked a 2070 super is four dollars and thirty nine cents per frame per second versus 354 on the 5700 XT AMD is cheaper again it doesn't have the features of the Nvidia card if you care but if you don't well go AMD you'll save yourself some money percentage difference chart this was an odd one I wasn't expecting this the 1660 was slower by 3% to the 580 but then of course they scale pretty smoothly all the way up notice the terrible value of the Radeon 7 because the 5700 XT beats it not quite as much at higher resolutions but still it just doesn't make any sense for what that card currently costs the 2070 super and the 5700 XT are neck-and-neck next up we have Ghost Recon wildlands yes I know breakpoint is now out but when these benchmarks were done it wasn't so you're getting wild lambs in the future I'll be doing break point we have the Vega 56 this time paired up to the GTX 1660 T I now the vega 56 was recently widely available for $299 I bought my triple fan power color card for $299 off of Amazon a few months ago but lately those have dried up but you can find the muse for around 200 although a lot of those are blower cards and it's worth considering if you're looking for a $200 card with this level of performance since the 1660 Ti is closer to 300 and really the RT X 2060 makes more sense but well it is what it is in any case let's take a look at the results at 1080p very high detail not ultra because Ultra is ridiculous and crushes frame rates and is pointless run this game it very high because Ultra is punishing same thing with the Assassin's Creed Odyssey I ran that at very high because Ultra is just punishing pointlessly for very little detail the Vega 56 did 79 frames per second average versus 82 on the 1660 ti but if you're ok with a used card and you pick one up for around $200 that's effectively the same performance for a really good price granted new versus used it doesn't come with a free game and so on and so forth but that's certainly your choice now if you can find one new for under 300 it might be worth considering as you move up the product stack notice that the RX 5700 which has been available for 330 is 97 frames per second and that's why I wouldn't pay 300 for a Vega 56 now is because the 5,700 exists runs cooler runs quieter runs faster new technology etc compared to the RT ex 2060 which is at ninety three so the Nabi cards are faster and then the 2060 super 104 interestingly enough the 2070 is also 104 but you go to 115 for the 2070 super 117th of the 2081 24 for the 2080 Super and if you just have to have that sweet sweet 144 frames per second I hope you have an arm and a leg to sell because the 2080 TI is your thing moving on to the minimums they scale very similar to the average frame rates yes yes 1% lows we'll get to that in the next round off benchmarks but for now this is what we've got overall all things considered this game runs very smooth and stable on any of these cards it's just the bottom two or three cards I would lower it to high detail but it's actually very playable on an RX 5 $80.00 per frame per second how many more of these do you need to see before you know the message AMD is a better deal than nvidia news flash film at 11:00 for those of you new to the pc business well now you know but for everybody else i'm sure at least some of you are out there looking at your monitor right now going duh it is it's a better deal if you can get away with it i would like to point something out on this chart the RX 580 at high detail is very playable in this game very highs a little bit rough but but high is very playable the RX 5700 xt is 75% faster for 400 percent of the price it's $400 versus $100 of a used RX 9 oh we're using use prices here i mean if you go with the new price or closer to 200 it's not as bad but it's really tough for the new cards at three to four hundred dollars to compete when there's such a wide selection at least at the moment of the used 5 80s 5 90s Vega 56 s and so on shadow of the Tomb Raider I'm only showing you the first segment of this because you get the point in the video has been going on long enough rx 5700 XT great value on the left for $400 RT x 2080 super for $700 not as good of a value but look at the CPU usage as we go through this shadow of the Tomb Raider is one of the new generation of games that legitimately will use all eight cores of a processor you'll see it jump up here in a second it's certainly very situational and it's not yet required but it does give a little bit of a boost especially if you've got a premium graphics card now we don't have the 2080 ti here but I showed you that already so I'm trying to show you something a bit different a hundred and forty frames per second average on the 2080 Super that's really nice except we do 119 frames per second on a 5,700 XT which is nearly half the price I really like the Nvidia cards but their card prices above a 2060 super are a bit nuts I kinda can get around the 2070 super a hundred and twenty seven frames per second for 500 okay if the 20/80 super was 600 was $5.99 I wouldn't mind as much it's still a premium but okay but it's 700 if you're playing at 1080p you really don't need these a friendly reminder that the RX 580 will play this just fine at 1080p it's 63 at highest detail lower to high you get a bit more and the Vega 56 if you can find one for $200 88 frames per second if you can get that at that price point that's a deal 49 frames per second on the 580 which is why you should lower it to high detail but look at the 68 frames per second on the Vega 56 that's maintaining a minimum of over 60 frames per second and it'll hold to about 60 in the actual game in various places at the highest detail at 1080p the 5700 XT is 94 which is a nice jump over that and if you don't if you want a new card with the free games that come with it it might actually be worth the 400 versus 204 Vega 56 if you value the free games as far as the 2080 Super yeah Wow awesome holy smokes 111 frames per second minimum yay $700 what what am I supposed to say it's just not the deal this is where I'd like to insert a joke about the fact that Nvidia's shill cheque did not clear but some of you wouldn't understand the joke and so I won't make that in any case I am DS the better deal than Nvidia is finally we've got the percentage difference charts now I'm about to go through all the cards here in detail separate in the mountain on desk and talking about them in broader terms but the fact of the matter is spend more get more and if you're not worried about the deal and your budget nearly so much as you are having a superior experience especially with a high frame rate monitor by all means move up the product stack and get a more expensive card I would submit that you really don't need anything more than a 5,700 XT or a 2060 super at 1080p that's probably the sweet spot everything beyond that is boy you better have luxury levels of money to make sense of it but here you go here's the percentage difference it certainly works its way up with every card so what do I really think about all these graphics well I'm gonna take them step by step in all of my comments here directly reference 1080p resolution I will have different comments for 1440p and 4k in the other two videos . @ 1080p right now there is no better deal on the market than a $100 RX 588 gigabyte card no it doesn't have three plus years of gaming in front of it at that resolution for the latest Triple A games no it isn't the most powerful card here in fact it's the weakest but for $100 the price to perform it simply cannot be beaten but that is a used card price and not everybody wants a used card and I certainly understand that we'll talk about some of the new options in a second the RX 590 makes no sense it's currently running about $50 more used at 150 the performance doesn't justify the price so unless it's really really cheap or close to the price of the 580 skip it the Vegas the Vegas are interesting cards they're great 1080p cards and they have some future in front of them for 1080p I don't know that they have three years of future in front of them in fact I'm willing to say they don't have three years of future in front of them for the latest Triple A games they certainly do if you have more modest expectations but if you want to play every Ghost Recon game every Assassin's Creed game every Tomb Raider game that comes out for the next three years at high detail 60 plus frames per second I think they're gonna run out of steam sooner than three years but you can always turn the detail down to medium and they'll be fine right now you can get a Vega 56 used for about $200 it's not a bad deal but most of those are blower cards and are hot and loud and I'm not jumping up and down about them the Vegas 64 is are an even worse value now I have a spectacular card here and this is not loud and it doesn't run too hot I mean it's still warm but the fans work really well but this nitro card sells at a premium and you're gonna spend way too much for this at least at the moment lest you find a deal otherwise they're about $300 and for $300 I'd buy a navvy before I would buy a Vegas 64 I'd buy you know an on xt 5700 so if you can get these for a really good deal fine if not that I would skip them I will talk about the card that's not here when we get to the end of all this if you want a new graphics card today for 1080p high detail gaming and 3/4 plus hundred dollars is just out of your budget the non TI version of the gtx 1660 is your new friend the sixteen fifty is too slow there's a reason I didn't even bother and the sixteen sixty TI does not justify its price there's currently only about a thirty dollar price difference between the TI and the RT X 2060 that's ridiculous if you're going to spend the price of this go buy an RT X but you can find the non TI 1664 real close to $200 and if $200 is your budget and 1080p high detail gaming is your thing you know I don't know that you're going to get three years out of it but it'll be close and if you're flexible with a couple of detail settings you can probably squeeze it to three years normally the 60 series of cards there's nothing wrong with the card I did a whole video on it we'll leave this one where it is ladies and gentlemen boys and girls allow me to introduce you to the new mainstream cards three to four hundred dollars 1080p high detail gaming don't all yell at me at once before you all run to the comment section below although please do leave me a comment because it helps with the YouTube algorithm before you all go complain in the comment section yes these are primarily intended to be 1080p cards now I am fully aware of the fact that 1440p these will pretty much play any available game today 60 to 100 frames per second without any trouble whatsoever raise your hand if any of you want to spend $400 on a graphics card for 1440p gaming for one year maybe 18 months anybody yeah I didn't think so these are not three year cards for 1440p I understand that maybe the super and the XT 5700 will do pretty well if you're playing a few just the detail settings and you don't want to play all the new games but if you're the kind of person who plays the latest release of all the major franchises and all the pretty beautiful big-budget games every year you're going to be disappointed these are effectively this generations rx 580 and 1064 a lot more money don't blame the messenger I didn't set the prices AMD and NVIDIA did this this generations three year cards just cost more than the previous generation did it's just the way it is if you want 1080p high detail 60 to 100 frames per second in all current games and for the next three years in all the upcoming games you have to spend this much money at least if you're buying new there are a couple of used options you can go with in the slightly less than this but not much they use 10 70 or 1080 Ti is not going to be substantially cheaper than milah ten seventy will be a 1080 it's a better choice if you want that but do you want new this is what you're looking at my advice is if you're going to this level skip The Pretenders and go for the XT or go for the Super eight gigs of ram versus six gigs of ram faster overall performance yes you can buy these for a little bit less but if you've got 320 to 350 dollars spend the four hundred and just get the good one and then finally we have the high end of the stack starting at 500 and going all the way up to 1100 or more depending upon which card you get NVIDIA has no competition here which is why the prices are higher and as you soften the dollar cost per frame per second charts these are not really that great of a value they aren't quite as bad once you put them into the cost of a machine if you build a nice fancy machine around them progressively going up this scale isn't a bad as those charts would indicate because if you rap $2,000 of computer around one of these cards well then the 11-hundred here is not so bad because you're only adding 50% of the price of the machine but it's a decent performance job if you're doing $1,000 for the computer this is absolutely ridiculous putting this in a thousand dollar computer to be at 2,100 is way overkill something like a 27 or 28 II would make more sense if you want to do that if you're looking for a 1440p card I know this isn't the 1440p video this is kind of where you want to be at so all of you 1080p gamers should just ignore this right well that depends how important is a hundred and forty-four frames per second to you as you saw throughout the charts in terms of Triple A games if you want all games if you've got a 1080p 144 Hertz monitor and you want high frame rates in everything that you play and you want high frame rates for the next three years allow me to introduce you to the ridiculous RTX 2080 ti4 1080p gaming I hope you have a $9.99 hundred K because anything else would be ridiculous this is not a good value for 1080p gaming in any stretch of the definition however if you are a premium gamer and high frame rates are everything there you go you can of course compromise by doing a 2080 super or 2070 super they're certainly a much better value for the money and if you want high frame rates and you want to compromise a bit and not go ridiculous there are reasonable choices these are really 1440p cards in terms of even reasonable hundred-plus frames per second for 1440p cards and we'll revisit these in more detail in the 1440p video but I just want to mention that if you're a serious ultra uber professional gamer there you go here's the short sweet version at the end of the video double gold stars to everybody who made it this far the four cards for 1080p gaming that I would make any kind of argument behind buying are these for value for the money current games on a budget rx 580 used if you want a three year plus card if you just want us and performance without worrying about for the next three years get an RT X 2060 super or an rx 5700 XT if you want high frame rates but you're not crazy with your budget get a 2080 super I know the 2070 super seems like a better deal but once you put in a computer it's really not and this is faster and if you want high frame rates I would spend the $700 and get one the 2080 TI really makes no sense at 1080p unless you just have no budget whatsoever because you can spend whatever you want but these are the four cards at 1080p at the four different tiers that have some kind of argument that makes any kind of sense the RX 5500 is coming soon I don't have one at the time of filming this video it may end up replacing the rx 580 but I don't know that it will because there's going to be a four gigabyte version of it why AMD eight gigs it's almost 2028 gig should be the new minimum but whatever so there's a four gig and an 8 gig version of that we'll have to see what their price and their
