Adjusting Lights to Desired Color
I think there is a way to change all the lights that are that color take it off the one light and drag it back on and then you can do it so now I have all of those lights set up to be white and then the other lights to be red so here I have red and so if I take that off and drag it back on it selects all those lights and I could adjust maybe I want them to be green so we could do a white and green scene or a white and pink or purple but there we want to do the white and red so that's kind of fun that I can do that now once I have everything set up the way I want it to be if I click the menu up here in the top left I can save as a new scene or set light settings so let's save as a new scene red and white and then I can save that out so then we have a few other options here we can choose different Dynamic things so we can do Candlelight or fireplace effects so let's go ahead and turn on fireplace for this I don't know if you can see that change too much let's go ahead try Candlelight now there's one more option we can do to really customize these and that is through the entertainment area so in the settings we have entertainment areas so this is typically done in a TV but I think we can work it here on the house it would be pretty fun so what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a new area and we're going to say this is going to be for my TV you can also use this for music as well I am using a hue sync box to be able to do this so we're going to label this house and here we're going to use the front porch and it's saying we can only use 10 lights so I do need to choose which lights I want to use and that one that works pretty good now we're going to position our lights so here we're going to choose where these are going to go so then we can choose the height of the lights this might take some time to get set up so once I have my lights placed in the proper location and height we can then save our entertainment area and now we're going to head into the Hue sync app I'm going to make sure that I change my entertainment area here I'm going to choose the house and then we're pretty much ready to go so we're going to go to sync
Setting Up a Home Theater System
Here video is on and here we can adjust the brightness and intensity of what is playing and let's go ahead and put a little video on the TV and see how that looks with the lights on the house now here I have the projector in the window so you can see what it's playing and what the lights are showing based on that so this all really depends on what kind of videos you have so here I found a few fun little spooky trailers that you can use here with this Ghostbusters Slimer coming up you can see that it interacts and changes the whole home so I could put a projector out front or something have a movie playing and then it would kind of interact with the whole home which is really fun this one scene that I found was really cool when you have the lightning it really adds that effect to the entire house if you do do something like this finding some really good videos that have some great interaction makes this effect really really cool now you can also just play some fun movies and have it interact with the movie here you can see that this famous Halloween movie does add some pretty cool effects on the house and I like that it's always changing so instead of just one color it's going to be constantly changing throughout the night which makes it really fun to have
Using Philips Hue Lights for a Home Theater System
After putting the four inch Philips Hue down lights on my soffits I can 100 recommend doing this it has been such a fun thing to have on the house and uh it really can totally change how the home looks like now of course you do need to have soffit lights to be able to do this if you don't I found that just putting some Philips Hue bulbs the a19 in my regular coach lights around the garage was really fun to have because then you can have all those different automations and stuff on a little smaller scale but if you do have a lot of light areas around your home I think this can be a really fun and easy way to brighten up your home for the holidays or anytime throughout the year
Conclusion
Now if you have any further questions about this please let me know in the comments below and if you want to see my walkthrough of the new home and some other stuff that is going to be coming soon you can check out the video right here thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next one
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI think it's about time I come clean with you guys I am a heavy Phillips hue light bulb user sorry Paul Hibbert but it's true I've actually been using many different bulbs in different parts of my home and I really like the way they interact I like the Philips hue light strip behind the TV and I like how I can get the Lutron Aurora switch so that I have easy control for them and they're always available so I have been using them for a long time I've made a bunch of videos about all the different products but it's so many products I've actually just never put together a full video to show you what Phillips you can do so today's gonna be the first video I officially do that so I picked up these four inch recessed color light bulbs from loot I got them about ten dollars off they are refurbished but I have a really fun plan with these here in the new home we have these different recessed lights under the soffit of the home so I have a plan with these I'm going to make a really cool Halloween and Christmas display so today we have a little project I'm going to be installing these but one interesting thing is you'll notice that the soffits on my home are black and here inside the box you'll notice that these four inch lights have a white trim around the outside and so this is a pretty big light bulb and then you have the trim so the first step that I'm going to take is to color the trim black and then once I paint those I'll be able to put them up and I think it'll be a pretty clean look because the ones that are up there now actually have a really small bulb so I want to kind of make this look a little smaller as well now before we move forward let's talk about some different light bulbs that you could use for your soffit light so here my soffit is actually just a trim that is attached to a light bulb that is screwed into the cam light socket so for me the four inch recessed can works great now I didn't realize until I had completed all the work for the video that you could actually just pull out the R20 light bulb and install a smart R20 light bulb which would have saved me a lot of work so here I'm actually using the Philips Wiz R20 bulb now I want to make it clear that Philips whiz light bulbs and Philips hue light bulbs are completely separate they don't work together so Philips Wiz is a Wi-Fi only bulb that if you had a bunch of them they can work together in The Wiz app but then you have the Philips Hue which works with the Hue bridge and they work off of Bluetooth and zigbee and they all work together they currently don't have a Philips Hue R20 light bulb which I would have liked so that's why I stuck with the four inch down light now for the Philips Hue BR30 this works great in an area where it already has a can that you just need to unscrew the light bulb screw in the new BR30 bulb and then as long as it has power it will become smart so maybe you have lights like this you would be able to place the light bulb in very easily and have this done in no time now that we know what bulb would work best where let's get back to the task at hand so inside this box here we have the Hue bulb here we have the light connector and then you have some instructions so here it says these bulbs can be used in wet or dry location when they are sealing mounted so this is going to be mounted up on the top and placed down and then the very first thing that we need to do before we get to painting these is to take a picture of the serial number because once I put them in the light fixture I don't want to have to climb up on the ladder to find the serial number so if I take a picture now I can then just reference the serial number when I am pairing it to my Hue Hub so let's go ahead I'm going to show you how I'm going to take these off and let's get them painted so down here you can see I have already done a bunch so I've learned a few things along the way all I'm going to do for this is take some painters tape duct tape and things will be too sticky and leave red residue so this is perfect and then I'm just going to oh I just ran out hang on found some blue all right so I'm going to take this and then is what I'm going to do is just cover the outside edge there's this little Rim here around the outside so I'm not going to paint any of that just this outside trim we're going to take that line it up with the outside rip that off and then we're going to go around and do the rest so here I'm just going to make sure I cover the little inside part and rip that off and then one more piece covering the light now the next thing I'm going to do is just use my fingernail and score around the outside edge here so I can see exactly where that edge of the light bulb is okay should look something like that next I'm going to take my Jerry rig everything knife and now I'm going to score with my knife around the edge here not pressing too hard just lightly to cut the tape try not to go over too much and scratch the paint and once I'm all the way around then I will just be able to peel off the tape now I'm just going to score any places that I didn't do very well cut that off now I'm going to score one more time with my finger all right that looks pretty good to me so when we paint we are going to want to paint a little bit around this border and on the top here so I think I'm going to put a piece of tape around the outside here now that we have them taped up the last thing I'm going to do is sand the trim a little bit just so the paint or spray paint is a little bit easier to adhere to so just a pretty light sand just to make it a little rough for the spray paint I'm going to be using Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra cover paint and primer black semi-gloss for wood metal plastic and more so let's go ahead put these in a better location and get them sprayed and here it says apply the second coat within minutes one hour touch dry and 24 hours total dry so this is going to work great all right we'll do that one more time then flip them over and second coat it has now been about an hour so let's go ahead and pull off the tape pretty good let's try the front here still a little wet under there so that's okay well after doing the paint and pulling it off it looks like the edges are still a bit rough so I'm going to do my best to scrape off any excess paint so then here I just use my knife to kind of scrape it off a little bit each one of these took a little bit of work but I think the end result actually turned out pretty great all right I think they're all ready to go now we just need to take our little attachment plug it securely into the back and screw them in the hole and then we're going to push them up and these are going to lock into place I think they look pretty good now before we install these we need to turn off the power here I'm just going to flip off the switch now I'm going to pull down on the old recessed light here it's kind of funny how this is installed so I'm just going to Simply unscrew this and here we're going to plug in the socket and then screw that in and then we're going to push in the can light and now to install the other eight now here's a look at the soffit light before and then here is the new Philips hue light and I'm really glad that I did do the painting around the trim as it doesn't help it stand out so much but it is a much bigger light than the previous soffit light all right now that I have the lights up we're going to turn on the power or flip on the switch and prior to this I have set up my Philips Hue bridge and plugged it into my network switch and now we're going to head into the Hue app to get them all connected so we're going to head up here to the menu and we're going to select to add lights and here we're going to search oh look it did find one let's start configuration so now I'm going to give them a name I'm going to name them in number order so this is number nine and here we're gonna choose one of these let's go with pendant Spotlight done and we could choose a color that looks good next light oh this is number one and now we go to the next flight and you know which light it is because it changes colors and once all the lights have been found we're going to select done now I didn't need to use any of the serial numbers which is pretty awesome that it found all of those so here it gives us the option to drag which lights are going into which room all right here we're going to give it a name call it soffits and we'll drag them all in now that they're set up and in a room let's go ahead and show you what they look like as well as how to customize scenes for your lights and here is what they look like I think it turned out pretty amazing okay now that we have our room set up with all of our lights in it let me go ahead and show you some of the different things you can do so first you have different scenes so these scenes have all been preset here and so here I can do all the different things that we're used to here I've created a few of my own scenes that I can simply tap on and then it will adjust to those if I come over here we have a few that I've created so let's say I want one for the Fourth of July here it adjusts all of those lights here I've made one for Halloween which is kind of fun so it has all these different colors now I will say that my drone isn't showing the lights as bright and vibrant as they look in real life but hopefully you can see just how awesome these look now there is a huge seen Gallery so I can come in here and I can choose all kinds of scenes that they have so they have one called glowing pumpkins that I can try and so automatically shows that seam if I want to turn off or on some of these lights I can do that I can also come in here and adjust that certain light so I can specify exactly what I want each light to do and then down here I can also adjust the brightness of that light so I have all of those controls right in the Hue app really really fun so with each scene that is created I can tap on it and there is also this Dynamic scene so you'll see that play button here and when I do that it automatically kind of sifts through slowly those colors that you have created so I think this one is set to transition every seven seconds or so so it takes a while let's see this scene I've set up to do instantly so you can see it's just changing all of the lights rapidly and you can actually do some really fun stuff with this so I have created a automation so let's see if I go into my settings and I go to my accessories I have a hue motion sensor that I have set up so if somebody comes to the door so here during the day I have it turned off so from 10 30 at night to 5 PM it doesn't do anything but then at night between 5 PM and 10 30 if motion is detected it changes the front porch to the Halloween scene and then it does that for one minute so you can choose one minute all the way up to 60 Minutes I could have it do that but after the one minute it then goes back to the previous state which is the other Halloween scene that doesn't change as often it just has a standard light settings there so that's kind of fun I also have these all set up on an automation so I don't ever have to touch the light switch automatically they turn on at night so here we have porch lights and I have it set where it starts at Sunset and I actually have it start 30 minutes before Sunset and then it automatically repeats every day it's changing the ports it's setting the scene and then it automatically turns off at 10 pm so it's nice that we have that automation all done all right so let's check out some more of the Hue scenes in the gallery so we have all these different Halloween scenes we have some of these Refreshing Spring scenes that are kind of fun we have these different cozy scenes so it's so fun when you have lots of these different lights it automatically can quickly adjust all of those lights here we have some party Vibes so there you can see it's changing all of those different lights and I'm not even sure if I'm gonna put up Christmas lights because it's so cool to have all of these different lights um at any time that can be adjusted you can see sometimes they dim the lights down a little more or sometimes they just make them super bright so as you can see there are a ton of different scenes here so here we have some holiday ones this one's called Golden Star kind of nice colors there here we have this one called under the tree so if you have different lights throughout your room you can use these so lots of different options and I really like how you can then customize each scene so let's go ahead and create a new scene so I've actually created one called Christmas here let's go ahead and add some white so what I'm going to do is I'm going to come down to my lights here and we're going to find one of these lights and I'm going to change this one just to White right in the middle there so then I can click close or if I want to change another light let's go ahead and change all the green to White so I just drag this over and I like it kind of locks on to the other white that you've already chosen so there you can see I'm slowly one by one adjusting it I think there is a way to change all the lights that are that color take it off the one light and drag it back on and then you can do it so now I have all of those lights set up to be white and then the other lights to be red so here I have red and so if I take that off and drag it back on it selects all those lights and I could adjust maybe I want them to be green so we could do a white and green scene or a white and pink or purple but there we want to do the white and red so that's kind of fun that I can do that now once I have everything set up the way I want it to be if I click the menu up here in the top left I can save as a new scene or set left-handed mode or I can adjust light settings so let's save as a new scene red and white and then I can save that out so then we have a few other options here we can choose different Dynamic things so we can do Candlelight or fireplace effects so let's go ahead and turn on fireplace for this I don't know if you can see that change too much let's go ahead try Candlelight now there's one more option we can do to really customize these and that is through the entertainment area so in the settings we have entertainment areas so this is typically done in a TV but I think we can work it here on the house it would be pretty fun so what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a new area and we're going to say this is going to be for my TV you can also use this for music as well I am using a hue sync box to be able to do this so we're going to label this house and here we're going to use the front porch and it's saying we can only use 10 lights so I do need to choose which lights I want to use and that one that works pretty good now we're going to position our lights so here we're going to choose where these are going to go so then we can choose the height of the lights this might take some time to get set up so once I have my lights placed in the proper location and height we can then save our entertainment area and now we're going to head into the Hue sync app I'm going to make sure that I change my entertainment area here I'm going to choose the house and then we're pretty much ready to go so we're going to go to sync Here video is on and here we can adjust the brightness and intensity of what is playing and let's go ahead and put a little video on the TV and see how that looks with the lights on the house now here I have the projector in the window so you can see what it's playing and what the lights are showing based on that so this all really depends on what kind of videos you have so here I found a few fun little spooky trailers that you can use here with this Ghostbusters Slimer coming up you can see that it interacts and changes the whole home so I could put a projector out front or something have a movie playing and then it would kind of interact with the whole home which is really fun this one scene that I found was really cool when you have the lightning it really adds that effect to the entire house if you do do something like this finding some really good videos that have some great interaction makes this effect really really cool now you can also just play some fun movies and have it interact with the movie here you can see that this famous Halloween movie does add some pretty cool effects on the house and I like that it's always changing so instead of just one color it's going to be constantly changing throughout the night which makes it really fun to have so after putting the four inch Philips Hue down lights on my soffits I can 100 recommend doing this it has been such a fun thing to have on the house and uh it really can totally change how the home looks like now of course you do need to have soffit lights to be able to do this if you don't I found that just putting some Philips Hue bulbs the a19 in my regular coach lights around the garage was really fun to have because then you can have all those different automations and stuff on a little smaller scale but if you do have a lot of light areas around your home I think this can be a really fun and easy way to brighten up your home for the holidays or anytime throughout the year now if you have any further questions about this please let me know in the comments below and if you want to see my walkthrough of different options and I really like how you can then customize each scene so let's go ahead and create a new scene so I've actually created one called Christmas here let's go ahead and add some white so what I'm going to do is I'm going to come down to my lights here and we're going to find one of these lights and I'm going to change this one just to White right in the middle there so then I can click close or if I want to change another light let's go ahead and change all the green to White so I just drag this over and I like it kind of locks on to the other white that you've already chosen so there you can see I'm slowly one by one adjusting it I think there is a way to change all the lights that are that color take it off the one light and drag it back on and then you can do it so now I have all of those lights set up to be white and then the other lights to be red so here I have red and so if I take that off and drag it back on it selects all those lights and I could adjust maybe I want them to be green so we could do a white and green scene or a white and pink or purple but there we want to do the white and red so that's kind of fun that I can do that now once I have everything set up the way I want it to be if I click the menu up here in the top left I can save as a new scene or set left-handed mode or I can adjust light settings so let's save as a new scene red and white and then I can save that out so then we have a few other options here we can choose different Dynamic things so we can do Candlelight or fireplace effects so let's go ahead and turn on fireplace for this I don't know if you can see that change too much let's go ahead try Candlelight now there's one more option we can do to really customize these and that is through the entertainment area so in the settings we have entertainment areas so this is typically done in a TV but I think we can work it here on the house it would be pretty fun so what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a new area and we're going to say this is going to be for my TV you can also use this for music as well I am using a hue sync box to be able to do this so we're going to label this house and here we're going to use the front porch and it's saying we can only use 10 lights so I do need to choose which lights I want to use and that one that works pretty good now we're going to position our lights so here we're going to choose where these are going to go so then we can choose the height of the lights this might take some time to get set up so once I have my lights placed in the proper location and height we can then save our entertainment area and now we're going to head into the Hue sync app I'm going to make sure that I change my entertainment area here I'm going to choose the house and then we're pretty much ready to go so we're going to go to sync Here video is on and here we can adjust the brightness and intensity of what is playing and let's go ahead and put a little video on the TV and see how that looks with the lights on the house now here I have the projector in the window so you can see what it's playing and what the lights are showing based on that so this all really depends on what kind of videos you have so here I found a few fun little spooky trailers that you can use here with this Ghostbusters Slimer coming up you can see that it interacts and changes the whole home so I could put a projector out front or something have a movie playing and then it would kind of interact with the whole home which is really fun this one scene that I found was really cool when you have the lightning it really adds that effect to the entire house if you do do something like this finding some really good videos that have some great interaction makes this effect really really cool now you can also just play some fun movies and have it interact with the movie here you can see that this famous Halloween movie does add some pretty cool effects on the house and I like that it's always changing so instead of just one color it's going to be constantly changing throughout the night which makes it really fun to have so after putting the four inch Philips Hue down lights on my soffits I can 100 recommend doing this it has been such a fun thing to have on the house and uh it really can totally change how the home looks like now of course you do need to have soffit lights to be able to do this if you don't I found that just putting some Philips Hue bulbs the a19 in my regular coach lights around the garage was really fun to have because then you can have all those different automations and stuff on a little smaller scale but if you do have a lot of light areas around your home I think this can be a really fun and easy way to brighten up your home for the holidays or anytime throughout the year now if you have any further questions about this please let me know in the comments below and if you want to see my walkthrough of the new home and some other stuff that is going to be coming soon you can check out the video right here thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next one\n"
