the cummins engine so with me not knowing too much about the power of diesel jamie threw me the keys to let me take it for a rip so what's it like driving the ultimate diesel sleeper let's go for a drive and find out hello ladies and gentlemen my name's david and i'm completely out of my element right now today we are driving a 2006 cummins diesel that makes a thousand horsepower and i know you're gonna say no freaking way there's no way that beat up looking truck that looks like it was sitting in a field makes a thousand horsepower fun fact it was sitting in a field and here we are today a buddy of mine finds this truck in the middle of the field he's basically like somebody's partnered out and he goes wait that's a full truck i can make use of that so he takes this beat up cummins goes i know diesels i know i can make this thing really fun he bought the truck for two thousand dollars and then after that he put a 76 millimeter turbo on it single turbo because they start as compound turbos and i'm learning all about this today because i'm more of a gasoline person i know more about that this basically has head studs in it the turbo fuel system and that's about it so with the fuel system there's big injectors and there's tuning involved obviously but other than that i'm looking in the rearview mirror right now and i feel like i'm in the titanic in 1912 because there is rolling coal everywhere i go and i'm not even really getting on it that much and it's kind of a weird experience because you hear the turbo spooling and i've seen this turbo on toyota's supras before it's a borgwarner 76 millimeter and i am just so fascinated because i've seen it next to other inline engines but seeing this it's all different story i've only driven two cummins ever i've driven one ford f-100 that had a cummins engine in it and i just drove a traditional dodge ram with this diesel it revs out just over or basically just right at 3 500 rpm or 4 000 rpm somewhere in that general area and to me that's weird i think that i'm short shifting i feel like i'm not doing anything right but we are driving four-speed automatic out of a column shifter we also have all your settings for your tow modes and your lows and your highs just driving the truck in general it's a truck i would never know that this thing made a thousand wheel horsepower because generally you drive a commons it makes turbo noises no matter what that's the appeal of them right a lot of people buy these trucks just for the sound they like the sound of the spooling and all that but when people upgrade these things it's pretty ridiculous especially from a dig seeing the diesel cummins launch from a dig against anything is really bananas oh you guys you expect it to just be a big fat heavy truck but it just doesn't matter due to how much torque there is and if we were to ballpark the torque on this thing it probably makes about 1500 i can't even comprehend that because even some of the fastest gasoline motors in the world with big twin turbos all that good stuff they can't even get close to that another thing too is you know i don't drive trucks often so when i first get in done you know it's the ones that are unexpected the ones that you just never really see coming and we're in the country right it's it looks like a generic work truck that you would never know yet ah news flash you got robbed oh look at the cloud what oh my god all the noises you're literally taking this truck and massaging it to get into the gear at once but if you get that gear right god dang the things fast i still really dig what they did i love that they took this truck that was supposed to be destroyed 100 this was supposed to not live and they made it work they made it happen did i
