I was chatting with Logan, and he was having some issues with his PC. He mentioned that he had been experiencing constant crashes when running YouTube tabs and other resource-intensive programs simultaneously. I suggested doing a stress test to diagnose the problem.
Logan decided to upgrade his PC, and I was happy to help him out. We started by removing the side panel of his case, which revealed a decent graphics card and a fan underneath. I explained to him that the graphics card was one of the most satisfying parts of building a PC, as it's always exciting to see what kind of hardware he had inside.
As we continued to work on Logan's PC, I noticed that there were some screws that needed to be removed in order to access the graphics card. I explained to him that these screws would need to be peeled off, rather than pulled out, because they were stuck with a special adhesive. I showed him how to carefully remove them without damaging any of the surrounding components.
With the graphics card exposed, Logan was thrilled to see its capabilities. He mentioned that he had been wanting to upgrade his PC for a while, but wasn't sure where to start. I explained to him that building a PC can be intimidating, especially if you're new to it. However, with the right guidance and tools, anyone can build a powerful machine.
As we worked on Logan's PC, I couldn't help but think about how different his experience was from what I'm used to when upgrading other people's systems. Unlike some of my previous upgrades, where I would be given cheap hardware or asked to upgrade someone with a perfectly functioning system, this time was different. Logan had a system that was struggling, and I wanted to make a positive impact.
Logan mentioned that he had been expecting me to give him free upgrades, but instead, I surprised him by offering to help him out. He explained that he wasn't used to getting free hardware or services, and it made the experience even more special for him.
With Logan's PC finally upgraded and running smoothly, we took a moment to shut down his system and celebrate the success of our collaboration. As we parted ways, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that I had made a positive impact on someone's life.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI tried so many things like replacing the fans like um I've also tried uh replacing the uh thermal paste it's claimed to be a 550 wat power supply but it looks like a cheap unit computer's kind of freezing the videos are stopping in the background and I think there that's it okay so it just crashed yeah sorry about your your system it just sucks that it ends up being so I'm about to go meet up with someone to pick up their PC and helped them troubleshoot it this is a viewer who stopped by the stream the other week and explained that his computer was constantly crashing and no matter what he did he could figure out why he did the typical recommendations like reinstall drivers fresh Windows install nothing worked uh he didn't have any spare Hardware or knows anybody who does so he reached out to me and normally I don't do PC troubleshooting for strangers Beyond helping them through the internet like I'll help people on streams sometimes in the YouTube comments or emails but unfortunately I don't have time to play teex support for every person out there that contacts me and that's even more the case for in-person tech support but he tells me that uh what high school he goes to and that he lives nearby and is literally like four miles away from me I'm very familiar with the area it's a neighborhood my wife and I frequent quite a bit uh so I said you know what let's help this kid out he's close enough and he seems pretty desperate at his Woods End uh trying to get his computer back up and running I was once a kid in high school I could only imagine what it'd be like to have my computer which I did all my school workor and gaming on fail on me and not have the resources to get it fixed uh so let's head out to meet up with them and see what's going on right after a quick word from our sponsor this video sponsored by flexi spot and their E7 Pro sit stand height adjustable desk I'm a person who has trouble sitting still for long periods of time and have been using sit stand desks in my personal setup for several years now and I can't see myself going back to a normal desk I switched between sitting and standing multiple times throughout the day to help stretch my legs correct my posture and on some occasions help me stay awake when I'm starting to feel drowsy plexy spot makes changing the desk height super easy with their programmable control panel which lets you save different height presets that can be adjusted to at the push of a button their desks are high quality and sturdy even at the maximum height the E7 Pro is rated up to 440 lbs which is noticeably higher than most of the competition you're probably not going to be pulling Shenanigans like I'm doing on the screen but I just wanted to test it fully loaded up to the Max rated weight to show its capabilities you know just in case anyone out there had some specific use case that would push it to its limits it passes learn more about the E7 Pro and any other models of flexi spot sit stand desks by clicking on the link in the description they've got a wide range of desk options as well as chairs like the C7 mesh chair that has a ton of adjustability that lets me get into positions like this thanks flexi spot for sponsoring this video now let's get back to it so yeah the viewer's name is Logan and he lives actually pretty close to me uh I think it's like if there's no traffic maybe like 8 minutes away let's see if I can find the right building is that him right there oh okay there he is hey what's up Logan where's the best place to park sorry where's the best place I should park for you to be able to bring the PC out yeah um I looked around and um I'm honestly uh not sure where I I'm going to see if I can find a spot down there but where's your building uh it's actually right there okay I'll cir around yep yep sounds good all right all right let's take a look at this thing nice to meet you by the way here you can put down in here yeah it's very convenient that you are super close by I actually play tennis at the courts like very often nice when did you uh actually get this computer uh around like uh maybe 1 or 2 years ago I got it for um my birthday had problems with the graphics card especially like I recently did a clean install mhm and it still did a crash were you using this like up to so basically today or last night uh I was um I was actually using it uh like a couple months ago that's when it started like crashing it was more of a gradual problem but then as it was um starting to uh age a little more it started crashing like constantly like like you know every few minutes and if I got lucky it would have take like a couple hours before it would crash but okay even then the Unlucky stuff I would um have it crash for like a few uh for like a few seconds after um booting up which was the real problem I've also tried uh replacing the uh thermal paste here that didn't work either so you're saying it crashed even when doing the most like random of stuff not even necessarily anything hard yeah yeah not necessarily anything hard it may take a few minutes yeah yeah that's fine I'm not really in a rush do you have anything to do after this or uh not really no okay uh I although I did forget to install any um benchmarking things on oh that that's fine don't don't worry about that oh yeah it'll like freeze for a um couple of seconds you can't move the mouse and then unfreeze and freeze like for a split second and then it'll just go it's gone um I don't know why it's not uh crashing oh it actually just crashed but Windows didn't crash oh I was blender closed Okay I uh that's probably a blender problem it's probably not but you did you install drivers uh when you did the the reinstall uh yes I did install the uh driver the AMD adrenaline everything yeah let me see that okay yeah so it has some form of a driver on here but just not the adrenaline software I think I haven't I didn't think about doing the um the software yeah no no worries the B driver should be why Windows is not crashing right now but there has been times where you literally open it up and it would crash like within like 5 minutes of not even doing anything a lot of times yes okay so mainly I wanted to one you know meet up and look over the computer together but also just see what current state it is right right now before I take it off your hands right cuz I I didn't want to just pick it up without checking it and then I get home and it it doesn't even boot on at all and they were like okay at what point did this happen in my position definitely so uh that just protects both of us we might not be able to crash here but uh let's see if I can get it to crash at home so I'm going to shut this down and then uh pack it up so I can safely transport it home so the the thing is oh okay did you tell your mom about this at all uh she's like why are you talking to this random just want to make sure she doesn't think we're doing some weird you know back of the trunk dealings of something other than nerdy computer stuff what's up hello I'm helping him with some computer problems that he has yeah yeah I've actually talked to you about um here so I I'll DM you on Discord uh and then we could just do it from there since it it'll be more instant yeah definitely uh okay well have a good weekend and I will keep you updated see man yep see you all right so we have the system in hand uh time to get home so uh what I'm going to do first is try to get the system to crash because as you saw earlier uh we were not able to get it to crash in the back of my car uh it's not that I don't believe Logan uh it's just that I kind of just want to see it for myself we'll see now that we have more time to sit with it if we can can get it to have the same problems that he was having I got two videos running side by side see if anything weird is going on the task manager yeah it's is a pretty fresh install so there's not a whole bunch of kind of like bloat oh computer's kind of freezing the videos are stopping in the background and I think there that's it yeah it wasn't a blue screen though uh it actually seems more like a graphics driver crash so interesting I'm going to give it a second here and see if it comes back but looks like we have to restart it it's not doing anything system sitting at idle here I mean CPU temperatures around like 40 or so and yep there we go another crash so let's take a look at Event Viewer okay I can't even I can't even do anything in Event Viewer by itself with nothing running in the background I'm going to go into the BIOS just to make sure nothing thing is uh you know like maybe the CPU or the memories overclocked causing some issues CPU is just everything is on auto Ram's also running at Auto speeds I'm going to load the defaults just in case something was changed uh that might be causing the crashing but uh we'll see I cannot even look at Event Viewer this keeps on crashing it okay this is frustrating and now Windows Windows did not load correctly okay I mean since we're here anyways let's boot into safe mode and see if that helps at all all right enable safe mode all right so try to take a look at the Windows Event Viewer and see if we can figure out anything in there Windows uh kernel power event 41 yeah system rebooted without cleanly shutting down it could be caused by a number of things it's not going to tell you specifically the issue with doing this is unless you like live and breathe this stuff which I definitely don't you're not going to have all this memorized so you're going to have to Google a bunch of this stuff I usually don't have luck figuring out the exact problem based on like what Event Viewer tells me it's just pretty generic info a lot of the time one person saying it could be the graphics card it could be the hardware of the graphics card I'm seeing a person say it could be the graphics card driver and another one is saying it could be the power supply and power delivery issues so if we're going to be honest I think it's the power supply so the the power supply that he has is an LSP Ultra 550 W power supply looks like it was sold maybe around 2010 plus or minus 2 years just looking at the label on the side of it it's claimed to be a 550 wat power supply but on the 12vt rail it's only good for 41 amps which which is 492 WS it looks like a cheap unit and given its age too I wouldn't be surprised if this thing is on its way out so if I had to guess uh and we're about to Brute Force this pretty soon here because it would be way quicker to do that than to try to look through everything in the invent viewer and I have a known working unit here uh I'm just going to unplug his power supply plug mine in and see if we can get it to crash at all all right everything is plugged in so we know for sure it couldn't handle watching multiple YouTube videos at once oh it's not the power supply it looks like yeah it just crashed we leave the power supply on there but okay I'm G to try the graphics card I actually do have uh another 7870 here so let's see if I can get that in and see if that is the issue what I'm hoping is not going to be the issue is uh either the motherboard or the CPU because I do not have spare parts that could test that there it is the MSI twin frozer 7870 we'll get my card in and see if that helps fix the problem all right let's get into GPU Z real quick make sure it's still identified yep there we go basically the same exact everything okay so looking at the drivers he actually has the August 2nd 2022 adrenaline 22.6 point1 and I'm just remembering now that uh this is a really old card so it's on like Legacy driver support it probably doesn't have anything within the last year or two and yep there it is 22.6 point1 so those are the latest drivers quick test because we know that running some YouTube tabs has caused it to crash we're going to repeat that get Hardware info up as well have everything's looking good so far is it really going to be the graphics card I was really thinking it was going to be the power supply more so than a graphics card but yeah I mean this thing just might be on its way out this is looking good so far this caused it to crash super easily earlier and it's it's going for a bit was it that simple just the graphics card not the driver not power being supplied to the graphics card not the power supply CPU does have some room though uh just for safe measure let's let's throw more on top of this let's do cin bench cuz that's easy to get and it's uh easy to just like do like a you know long run cin bench 480 minute run 8 hours uh going here still got unen Valley going in the background this is got an infinite Loop we've got a live stream running and then we've got this video also if this system doesn't crash by the morning time then I think we could call for the most part this system good with regards like the ram CPU motherboard at least the graphics card definitely is the problem given that I replaced it with the exact same graphics card that I had on hand and we didn't run into the crashing but that power supply the LSP 550 watt in Logan system is still questionable if this passes by the morning then all I have to do is do another shorter test with his power supply with this full load uh see if that's good or not then we would have pinpoint the problem and uh yeah we can go from there but it is getting late so I'm going to let this keep running and I'm going to go to sleep all right so it's the next morning and the screen is dark right now I think it's because the test finished running and it's sleeping sweet oh no uh screen just turned off because of whatever window settings awesome okay so we take a look here the test is still running uh for that 480 minutes 30 minutes left of it I mean everything is still going CPU actually never got higher than the maximum was 68° yeah under all core workload that's good so they s Cooler Master hyper 212 as well as the noctula fan is doing a good job I'm pretty confident that everything that's hooked up to the system right now is good so I'm actually G to stop this c a bench because we need to get started on the next part uh I'm going to shut the system down and what we're going to do now is plug in his power supply and see if that can withstand the stress test so we're going to do the exact same thing probably won't do a 8 hour test on Center bench I'll do like 2 hours 120 minutes so I mean if it could pass this then I'd feel pretty confident though I mean the the power supply that has to be the next thing to go if I had to guess if it isn't already going to be a problem but we'll see I decided to take Logan's graphics card and put it into my test bench so here it is I'm running the exact same test here so we've got Valley going on we've got a stream in the background we've got land party stories so I'm running the identical test which again this graphics card when it was in his system remember like fresh driver installs fresh Windows install just opening a couple of YouTube tabs already crashed it there's something else kind of like weird going on uh in terms of the interaction with specific Parts because his graphics card in my system we can see it right here uh it's running just fine nothing looks super out of place the graphics card is pretty much pegged at 100% 99 100% and it's got zero issues so I'm going to let this keep running to see if it's going to eventually crash we've got such a heavier load on it right now than we did last night last night it was crashing you know on two YouTube tabs or just going to Event Viewer eventually in like under 5 minutes now we're going on um 13 minutes and on a heavy load and it's doing just fine so I'm going to let this keep running I'll check back in later this power supply despite being you know somewhat questionable quality that potentially like 12 13 years old it's fine it got through the tests over here though no issues uh why can I not recreate the problem okay so now I'm running occt I am running the video memory test there's the card it just says 7800 series but it is the 7870 and we'll see if this comes up with any issues but on this system I'm pretty confident given all the tests that's been done so far so I'm actually going to start a mem test run just to make sure there's nothing going on weird with his memory so we've got m test running on this one this is going to take a while the vram test is done no err is detected yeah it doesn't tell you much information you can't expand on anything or get more details it just tells you that you started it finished and it's complete with no errors so kind of a black box but I mean it's just uh another thing to confirm that there's not really a problem with this graphics card it's 1:00 a.m. right now I'm not going to sit around waiting for this to finish I'll check on it in the morning so it's the next day and mem test is done so we take a look at the results 14 hours no errors so yeah I kind of expected that but this wasn't a complete waste of time because at least it was another check that I was able to do for Logan uh to make sure another component wasn't the issue in his system so last night as m test was running uh as I was getting to bed I was having trouble sleeping I I stayed up for like another hour or two just because uh I couldn't get this problem off my mind and then I it finally hit me if you think you know what the issue is based on everything I've shown and done so far be sure to leave a comment down below before I give my answer I'm curious just to see how many other people could come to the same conclusion that I'm about to share but okay in Lan PC the issue is both the graphics card and the power supply at the same time the reason I think this is because the graphics card crashes in his original setup as is but not in mine the key difference is the power supplies my test bench has pretty much brand new Corsair rme 750 in it which is like a top tier you know a tier power supply in terms of quality and Logan's PC he has an old questionable unit now I don't have the equipment to test it but if I were to guess e or an F tier just my guess now it's not just his power supply being the issue though I think it goes a little bit deeper than that I'm thinking there's some degradation going on in his graphics card and it has now reached the point where it requires a certain quality of power to run without issue you've got all these like subcomponents on it you know as they degrade over time they don't do their job as well so it's kind of like you have two filters in place from getting power from the wall to the graphics card you've got a not so great power supply doing the first uh round of filtering and then you've got some degraded VMS potentially on his graphics card not doing a great job of filtering there too so it's just two rounds of uh not cleaning up the power as well as it should resulting in it crashing now my explanation as to why Logan's not so great power supply work just fine with my graphics card which is the same exact card and you know it's just a different aib is because my card has not degraded as much uh if I had to guess it's kind of been just sitting around in my office for the last four to 5 years seeing little to no use at all his 7870 clearly still showed that it could perform with zero issues at all so long as it got clean power uh and we can't fully blame his power supply because as we saw that was able to pass all of the stress tests with no issues when my card was in the system uh now what whether or not his power supply is slowly killing components because it is delivering lower Quality Power is another thing uh but I definitely think this is a two pronged problem so yeah I think it's time to close up Logan's build and get it back to him and let him know what's going on so he can make an informed decision as to what to do next so I told Logan what's up with his PC and he's actually been really proactive trying to get it back up and running uh so he's been sending me listings of graphics cards in the local area that he's been thinking about he's actually very keen about this 1 GTX 960 listed for $25 in our area he doesn't have the money right now yet to pick it up but uh you know he doesn't have a job he has some of the money but not the whole 25 bucks so I told him maybe you can either try to bargain or haggle it down a little bit to how much you have either way I think that's pretty good on him for you know being that proactive and you know not just trying to ask me directly for handouts hey what's up Logan hey man yeah sorry about your your system it it just sucks that it ends up being both the graphics card and and the the power supply so you said you were looking at that GTX 960 yeah I was actually okay and you're have you tried to like haggle down that first yeah yeah yeah I I got it down to um 20 okay um so you just shorted a little bit of money right yeah you're almost there just $5 it's all okay well so I was actually thinking about it a little bit more and I I I think that's like a bad idea to buy that 60 really yeah just because um he didn't really think I was going to give him back his problematic computer as is did you come on now let's get him back his PC in working order with some small upgrades all right so this is what I'm going to give to Logan to upgrade his system uh first is the graphics card which is an RX 580 8 GB so he's going to be going from 2 GB of video memory up to eight which is quadruple which should be a huge boost for him from 7, ,000 series to 200 to 300 400 500 four generations forward this isn't the newest most expensive card out there but relative to what he has I think this will be a huge performance bump for him so hopefully enjoys this so that's the graphics card one of the problems that we identified the other thing we would have to replace of course would be the power supply so this is an actual true 550 W power supply on the 12vt rail it is actually rated for 550 WTS this is The Cooler Master Master watt 550 a much needed step up from his LSP Ultra 550 so there's those two components and then the last one you see this case right here look at that wobble it's on it has one of the remaining feet out of the four this thing just wobble when you just push on it like this so we're going to be taking all his components out of his case and we're going to be putting it into a much more modern NZXT H5 flow so yeah let's get his build in this case and uh then we can go meet up with him and properly give him the PC it's his empty case his new build which you can't really see cuz it's too dark I think that's like a bad idea to buy that 960 really yeah just because um you're not going to need to buy it anymore because I actually gave you an upgrade to your system no way no way do you need anything in return no of course not yeah so so let me let me go over what I did for your system so your case you dude you're going on one foot on the bottom of your case so uh I I gave you a new case this is an NZXT case um so this is something that you should be able to carry with you like as you upgrade the rest of your system more I updated your graphics card to even something better than a GTX 960 you got to RX 580 now so wow I mean it's it's still you know by this by this point it's still like a little bit aged of a card but it's got 8 GB of vram and it's still very solid for 1080P and a major jump up from the 7870 that you had yeah definitely and then your power supply I mean that thing I have no idea like I think it could potentially be a big piece of junk that could potentially damage parts so uh I replace your power supply with a a true 550 wat from master so that is amazing yeah so actually let's fire this thing up so I can show you it oh yeah definitely I would love to see this oh man this thing is this thing is nice uh I could not ask for more this is amazing power buttons right here oh that's nice did the fans turn on uh I don't the switch is on let me make sure I put it in the right battery backup oh it sounds like it's on oh it is on it's just very quiet it's just very quiet oh my God it's really that quiet my goodness okay yeah so here it is let me plug in the um keyboard and mouse Yep this is fantastic this is a huge upgrade I made sure everything I put into the PC in its state I stress test it uh before get you know bringing it back to there shouldn't be any problems if there is you know just let me know and then we'll walk through and troubleshoot it together but um so let me show you to take this glass off because some people don't know how to so you got to un so unscrew that real quick and then what you do is you pop the glass out you have to like pull it and pop it out it feels weird at first there you but you have to keep on pulling cuz the whole thing comes out yep there you go and then you lift up oh wow yeah oh yeah uh I can take this off right yeah oh actually yeah do the peel have you ever peeled glass before on a computer uh no I haven't actually yeah so then you just you just have to pop it in it it's a more uh nope so just push the glass inward don't worry about the screw oh okay so so pop the glass in yep just push up there you go and then pop that side in too yeah so the way this works is you just so pop out and then you you lift up and then put it back in that is very convenient but when you pop it out uh lift it out because there is a little lift down here you don't want to pull this all the way down cuz it might the glass yeah um so yeah well so take a look at your system there oh yeah that is a nice graphics card oh got a fan down there that's nice yeah this is definitely I like it so let me put this back on but there's also a piece of plastic to peel here so you should peel that so you can get that experience it's one of the most satisfying uh feelings oh oh yeah oh it got stuck oh no oh no I think you're supposed to yeah you're supposed to peel it while it's off y here you go let there you go yeah all right so now you got your super clear glass I was expecting like someone to uh help me uh get stuff done I didn't expect you to actually upgrade the PC to um make it perform better like my God I saw your descriptions and I was like like I he doesn't um build PCS for for free and such I'm not going to ask just going to you know and I and I I was not expecting to um get free upgrades or whatever but thank you so much man people ask me for free stuff all the time I don't give free stuff to people who ask so the fact that you didn't ask that was like a major point for me that I was like okay uh let's help him out so definitely so yeah so your PC is good to go so let's get this uh shut down and you can start I also forgot sign out of my uh YouTube account when you see me watching some videos and stuff you're like I saw you watching a bunch of hermit crows so I just clicked on whatever random thing just to do the stress test essentially I was running like two YouTube tabs with stuff running on top of it just running the two YouTube tabs initially when I got your system was constantly crashing it so I kept that as like the the test to do when I when it um didn't crash when we first met I was like he's probably going to be suspicious at it but then all of a sudden it started crashing and I'm like oh okay yep never mind he's he sees the problem now yeah no I think it's suspicious as all that happens all the time where like you have a problem and then when you're ready to show somebody the problem uh it just doesn't do it right you're good to go so oh yeah definitely I very much appreciate it thanks man yeah no problem so love to meet again at some point just let me know how the PC goes uh if there's any problems again don't hesitate to reach out so yeah definitely all right thanks man all right man you have a good weekend and enjoy that PC okay yeah you too see you so that went as well as I could have hope for he seemed super surprised and was very excited about his new upgrades and was very appreciative of it uh so I couldn't have asked for you know it to go any better in the past when I've upgraded people's systems uh if I use like older less expensive Hardware uh I would inevitably get hate comments from some viewers saying things like oh I gave them a crappy upgrade that I cheaped out you know why didn't I give away better Hardware stuff like that but for me I'd rather help someone out like Logan that has a system in which giving him an rx580 is a big upgrade in itself rather than someone who has say like you know a perfectly functioning RTX 6 uh 3060 and upgrading them to like an RTX 4080 like I want to make an impact the best way that I can within my means and if that means finding people who have really struggling systems and giving them sub 00 graphics cards that you know the upgrade still completely transforms their PC experience then I'll take that any day of the week you know I feel like that's way more impactful but yeah that's going to wrap up for this video hope you all enjoyed uh I want to thank you all as always for watching and for continuing to support the Channel I want to give huge thanks to the channel members I'll make room for them uh for their above and beyond support let me know down in the comments uh what you thought of my diagnosis of Logan's PC do you think I got it spot on or do you think something else could have been going on there also let me know down in the comments did I get you with that surprise twist at the end did you see that coming or did that come out of left field for you um but yeah look forward to reading your comments down below as always be safe out there and I'll see you all in the next stream and our video byeI tried so many things like replacing the fans like um I've also tried uh replacing the uh thermal paste it's claimed to be a 550 wat power supply but it looks like a cheap unit computer's kind of freezing the videos are stopping in the background and I think there that's it okay so it just crashed yeah sorry about your your system it just sucks that it ends up being so I'm about to go meet up with someone to pick up their PC and helped them troubleshoot it this is a viewer who stopped by the stream the other week and explained that his computer was constantly crashing and no matter what he did he could figure out why he did the typical recommendations like reinstall drivers fresh Windows install nothing worked uh he didn't have any spare Hardware or knows anybody who does so he reached out to me and normally I don't do PC troubleshooting for strangers Beyond helping them through the internet like I'll help people on streams sometimes in the YouTube comments or emails but unfortunately I don't have time to play teex support for every person out there that contacts me and that's even more the case for in-person tech support but he tells me that uh what high school he goes to and that he lives nearby and is literally like four miles away from me I'm very familiar with the area it's a neighborhood my wife and I frequent quite a bit uh so I said you know what let's help this kid out he's close enough and he seems pretty desperate at his Woods End uh trying to get his computer back up and running I was once a kid in high school I could only imagine what it'd be like to have my computer which I did all my school workor and gaming on fail on me and not have the resources to get it fixed uh so let's head out to meet up with them and see what's going on right after a quick word from our sponsor this video sponsored by flexi spot and their E7 Pro sit stand height adjustable desk I'm a person who has trouble sitting still for long periods of time and have been using sit stand desks in my personal setup for several years now and I can't see myself going back to a normal desk I switched between sitting and standing multiple times throughout the day to help stretch my legs correct my posture and on some occasions help me stay awake when I'm starting to feel drowsy plexy spot makes changing the desk height super easy with their programmable control panel which lets you save different height presets that can be adjusted to at the push of a button their desks are high quality and sturdy even at the maximum height the E7 Pro is rated up to 440 lbs which is noticeably higher than most of the competition you're probably not going to be pulling Shenanigans like I'm doing on the screen but I just wanted to test it fully loaded up to the Max rated weight to show its capabilities you know just in case anyone out there had some specific use case that would push it to its limits it passes learn more about the E7 Pro and any other models of flexi spot sit stand desks by clicking on the link in the description they've got a wide range of desk options as well as chairs like the C7 mesh chair that has a ton of adjustability that lets me get into positions like this thanks flexi spot for sponsoring this video now let's get back to it so yeah the viewer's name is Logan and he lives actually pretty close to me uh I think it's like if there's no traffic maybe like 8 minutes away let's see if I can find the right building is that him right there oh okay there he is hey what's up Logan where's the best place to park sorry where's the best place I should park for you to be able to bring the PC out yeah um I looked around and um I'm honestly uh not sure where I I'm going to see if I can find a spot down there but where's your building uh it's actually right there okay I'll cir around yep yep sounds good all right all right let's take a look at this thing nice to meet you by the way here you can put down in here yeah it's very convenient that you are super close by I actually play tennis at the courts like very often nice when did you uh actually get this computer uh around like uh maybe 1 or 2 years ago I got it for um my birthday had problems with the graphics card especially like I recently did a clean install mhm and it still did a crash were you using this like up to so basically today or last night uh I was um I was actually using it uh like a couple months ago that's when it started like crashing it was more of a gradual problem but then as it was um starting to uh age a little more it started crashing like constantly like like you know every few minutes and if I got lucky it would have take like a couple hours before it would crash but okay even then the Unlucky stuff I would um have it crash for like a few uh for like a few seconds after um booting up which was the real problem I've also tried uh replacing the uh thermal paste here that didn't work either so you're saying it crashed even when doing the most like random of stuff not even necessarily anything hard yeah yeah not necessarily anything hard it may take a few minutes yeah yeah that's fine I'm not really in a rush do you have anything to do after this or uh not really no okay uh I although I did forget to install any um benchmarking things on oh that that's fine don't don't worry about that oh yeah it'll like freeze for a um couple of seconds you can't move the mouse and then unfreeze and freeze like for a split second and then it'll just go it's gone um I don't know why it's not uh crashing oh it actually just crashed but Windows didn't crash oh I was blender closed Okay I uh that's probably a blender problem it's probably not but you did you install drivers uh when you did the the reinstall uh yes I did install the uh driver the AMD adrenaline everything yeah let me see that okay yeah so it has some form of a driver on here but just not the adrenaline software I think I haven't I didn't think about doing the um the software yeah no no worries the B driver should be why Windows is not crashing right now but there has been times where you literally open it up and it would crash like within like 5 minutes of not even doing anything a lot of times yes okay so mainly I wanted to one you know meet up and look over the computer together but also just see what current state it is right right now before I take it off your hands right cuz I I didn't want to just pick it up without checking it and then I get home and it it doesn't even boot on at all and they were like okay at what point did this happen in my position definitely so uh that just protects both of us we might not be able to crash here but uh let's see if I can get it to crash at home so I'm going to shut this down and then uh pack it up so I can safely transport it home so the the thing is oh okay did you tell your mom about this at all uh she's like why are you talking to this random just want to make sure she doesn't think we're doing some weird you know back of the trunk dealings of something other than nerdy computer stuff what's up hello I'm helping him with some computer problems that he has yeah yeah I've actually talked to you about um here so I I'll DM you on Discord uh and then we could just do it from there since it it'll be more instant yeah definitely uh okay well have a good weekend and I will keep you updated see man yep see you all right so we have the system in hand uh time to get home so uh what I'm going to do first is try to get the system to crash because as you saw earlier uh we were not able to get it to crash in the back of my car uh it's not that I don't believe Logan uh it's just that I kind of just want to see it for myself we'll see now that we have more time to sit with it if we can can get it to have the same problems that he was having I got two videos running side by side see if anything weird is going on the task manager yeah it's is a pretty fresh install so there's not a whole bunch of kind of like bloat oh computer's kind of freezing the videos are stopping in the background and I think there that's it yeah it wasn't a blue screen though uh it actually seems more like a graphics driver crash so interesting I'm going to give it a second here and see if it comes back but looks like we have to restart it it's not doing anything system sitting at idle here I mean CPU temperatures around like 40 or so and yep there we go another crash so let's take a look at Event Viewer okay I can't even I can't even do anything in Event Viewer by itself with nothing running in the background I'm going to go into the BIOS just to make sure nothing thing is uh you know like maybe the CPU or the memories overclocked causing some issues CPU is just everything is on auto Ram's also running at Auto speeds I'm going to load the defaults just in case something was changed uh that might be causing the crashing but uh we'll see I cannot even look at Event Viewer this keeps on crashing it okay this is frustrating and now Windows Windows did not load correctly okay I mean since we're here anyways let's boot into safe mode and see if that helps at all all right enable safe mode all right so try to take a look at the Windows Event Viewer and see if we can figure out anything in there Windows uh kernel power event 41 yeah system rebooted without cleanly shutting down it could be caused by a number of things it's not going to tell you specifically the issue with doing this is unless you like live and breathe this stuff which I definitely don't you're not going to have all this memorized so you're going to have to Google a bunch of this stuff I usually don't have luck figuring out the exact problem based on like what Event Viewer tells me it's just pretty generic info a lot of the time one person saying it could be the graphics card it could be the hardware of the graphics card I'm seeing a person say it could be the graphics card driver and another one is saying it could be the power supply and power delivery issues so if we're going to be honest I think it's the power supply so the the power supply that he has is an LSP Ultra 550 W power supply looks like it was sold maybe around 2010 plus or minus 2 years just looking at the label on the side of it it's claimed to be a 550 wat power supply but on the 12vt rail it's only good for 41 amps which which is 492 WS it looks like a cheap unit and given its age too I wouldn't be surprised if this thing is on its way out so if I had to guess uh and we're about to Brute Force this pretty soon here because it would be way quicker to do that than to try to look through everything in the invent viewer and I have a known working unit here uh I'm just going to unplug his power supply plug mine in and see if we can get it to crash at all all right everything is plugged in so we know for sure it couldn't handle watching multiple YouTube videos at once oh it's not the power supply it looks like yeah it just crashed we leave the power supply on there but okay I'm G to try the graphics card I actually do have uh another 7870 here so let's see if I can get that in and see if that is the issue what I'm hoping is not going to be the issue is uh either the motherboard or the CPU because I do not have spare parts that could test that there it is the MSI twin frozer 7870 we'll get my card in and see if that helps fix the problem all right let's get into GPU Z real quick make sure it's still identified yep there we go basically the same exact everything okay so looking at the drivers he actually has the August 2nd 2022 adrenaline 22.6 point1 and I'm just remembering now that uh this is a really old card so it's on like Legacy driver support it probably doesn't have anything within the last year or two and yep there it is 22.6 point1 so those are the latest drivers quick test because we know that running some YouTube tabs has caused it to crash we're going to repeat that get Hardware info up as well have everything's looking good so far is it really going to be the graphics card I was really thinking it was going to be the power supply more so than a graphics card but yeah I mean this thing just might be on its way out this is looking good so far this caused it to crash super easily earlier and it's it's going for a bit was it that simple just the graphics card not the driver not power being supplied to the graphics card not the power supply CPU does have some room though uh just for safe measure let's let's throw more on top of this let's do cin bench cuz that's easy to get and it's uh easy to just like do like a you know long run cin bench 480 minute run 8 hours uh going here still got unen Valley going in the background this is got an infinite Loop we've got a live stream running and then we've got this video also if this system doesn't crash by the morning time then I think we could call for the most part this system good with regards like the ram CPU motherboard at least the graphics card definitely is the problem given that I replaced it with the exact same graphics card that I had on hand and we didn't run into the crashing but that power supply the LSP 550 watt in Logan system is still questionable if this passes by the morning then all I have to do is do another shorter test with his power supply with this full load uh see if that's good or not then we would have pinpoint the problem and uh yeah we can go from there but it is getting late so I'm going to let this keep running and I'm going to go to sleep all right so it's the next morning and the screen is dark right now I think it's because the test finished running and it's sleeping sweet oh no uh screen just turned off because of whatever window settings awesome okay so we take a look here the test is still running uh for that 480 minutes 30 minutes left of it I mean everything is still going CPU actually never got higher than the maximum was 68° yeah under all core workload that's good so they s Cooler Master hyper 212 as well as the noctula fan is doing a good job I'm pretty confident that everything that's hooked up to the system right now is good so I'm actually G to stop this c a bench because we need to get started on the next part uh I'm going to shut the system down and what we're going to do now is plug in his power supply and see if that can withstand the stress test so we're going to do the exact same thing probably won't do a 8 hour test on Center bench I'll do like 2 hours 120 minutes so I mean if it could pass this then I'd feel pretty confident though I mean the the power supply that has to be the next thing to go if I had to guess if it isn't already going to be a problem but we'll see I decided to take Logan's graphics card and put it into my test bench so here it is I'm running the exact same test here so we've got Valley going on we've got a stream in the background we've got land party stories so I'm running the identical test which again this graphics card when it was in his system remember like fresh driver installs fresh Windows install just opening a couple of YouTube tabs already crashed it there's something else kind of like weird going on uh in terms of the interaction with specific Parts because his graphics card in my system we can see it right here uh it's running just fine nothing looks super out of place the graphics card is pretty much pegged at 100% 99 100% and it's got zero issues so I'm going to let this keep running to see if it's going to eventually crash we've got such a heavier load on it right now than we did last night last night it was crashing you know on two YouTube tabs or just going to Event Viewer eventually in like under 5 minutes now we're going on um 13 minutes and on a heavy load and it's doing just fine so I'm going to let this keep running I'll check back in later this power supply despite being you know somewhat questionable quality that potentially like 12 13 years old it's fine it got through the tests over here though no issues uh why can I not recreate the problem okay so now I'm running occt I am running the video memory test there's the card it just says 7800 series but it is the 7870 and we'll see if this comes up with any issues but on this system I'm pretty confident given all the tests that's been done so far so I'm actually going to start a mem test run just to make sure there's nothing going on weird with his memory so we've got m test running on this one this is going to take a while the vram test is done no err is detected yeah it doesn't tell you much information you can't expand on anything or get more details it just tells you that you started it finished and it's complete with no errors so kind of a black box but I mean it's just uh another thing to confirm that there's not really a problem with this graphics card it's 1:00 a.m. right now I'm not going to sit around waiting for this to finish I'll check on it in the morning so it's the next day and mem test is done so we take a look at the results 14 hours no errors so yeah I kind of expected that but this wasn't a complete waste of time because at least it was another check that I was able to do for Logan uh to make sure another component wasn't the issue in his system so last night as m test was running uh as I was getting to bed I was having trouble sleeping I I stayed up for like another hour or two just because uh I couldn't get this problem off my mind and then I it finally hit me if you think you know what the issue is based on everything I've shown and done so far be sure to leave a comment down below before I give my answer I'm curious just to see how many other people could come to the same conclusion that I'm about to share but okay in Lan PC the issue is both the graphics card and the power supply at the same time the reason I think this is because the graphics card crashes in his original setup as is but not in mine the key difference is the power supplies my test bench has pretty much brand new Corsair rme 750 in it which is like a top tier you know a tier power supply in terms of quality and Logan's PC he has an old questionable unit now I don't have the equipment to test it but if I were to guess e or an F tier just my guess now it's not just his power supply being the issue though I think it goes a little bit deeper than that I'm thinking there's some degradation going on in his graphics card and it has now reached the point where it requires a certain quality of power to run without issue you've got all these like subcomponents on it you know as they degrade over time they don't do their job as well so it's kind of like you have two filters in place from getting power from the wall to the graphics card you've got a not so great power supply doing the first uh round of filtering and then you've got some degraded VMS potentially on his graphics card not doing a great job of filtering there too so it's just two rounds of uh not cleaning up the power as well as it should resulting in it crashing now my explanation as to why Logan's not so great power supply work just fine with my graphics card which is the same exact card and you know it's just a different aib is because my card has not degraded as much uh if I had to guess it's kind of been just sitting around in my office for the last four to 5 years seeing little to no use at all his 7870 clearly still showed that it could perform with zero issues at all so long as it got clean power uh and we can't fully blame his power supply because as we saw that was able to pass all of the stress tests with no issues when my card was in the system uh now what whether or not his power supply is slowly killing components because it is delivering lower Quality Power is another thing uh but I definitely think this is a two pronged problem so yeah I think it's time to close up Logan's build and get it back to him and let him know what's going on so he can make an informed decision as to what to do next so I told Logan what's up with his PC and he's actually been really proactive trying to get it back up and running uh so he's been sending me listings of graphics cards in the local area that he's been thinking about he's actually very keen about this 1 GTX 960 listed for $25 in our area he doesn't have the money right now yet to pick it up but uh you know he doesn't have a job he has some of the money but not the whole 25 bucks so I told him maybe you can either try to bargain or haggle it down a little bit to how much you have either way I think that's pretty good on him for you know being that proactive and you know not just trying to ask me directly for handouts hey what's up Logan hey man yeah sorry about your your system it it just sucks that it ends up being both the graphics card and and the the power supply so you said you were looking at that GTX 960 yeah I was actually okay and you're have you tried to like haggle down that first yeah yeah yeah I I got it down to um 20 okay um so you just shorted a little bit of money right yeah you're almost there just $5 it's all okay well so I was actually thinking about it a little bit more and I I I think that's like a bad idea to buy that 60 really yeah just because um he didn't really think I was going to give him back his problematic computer as is did you come on now let's get him back his PC in working order with some small upgrades all right so this is what I'm going to give to Logan to upgrade his system uh first is the graphics card which is an RX 580 8 GB so he's going to be going from 2 GB of video memory up to eight which is quadruple which should be a huge boost for him from 7, ,000 series to 200 to 300 400 500 four generations forward this isn't the newest most expensive card out there but relative to what he has I think this will be a huge performance bump for him so hopefully enjoys this so that's the graphics card one of the problems that we identified the other thing we would have to replace of course would be the power supply so this is an actual true 550 W power supply on the 12vt rail it is actually rated for 550 WTS this is The Cooler Master Master watt 550 a much needed step up from his LSP Ultra 550 so there's those two components and then the last one you see this case right here look at that wobble it's on it has one of the remaining feet out of the four this thing just wobble when you just push on it like this so we're going to be taking all his components out of his case and we're going to be putting it into a much more modern NZXT H5 flow so yeah let's get his build in this case and uh then we can go meet up with him and properly give him the PC it's his empty case his new build which you can't really see cuz it's too dark I think that's like a bad idea to buy that 960 really yeah just because um you're not going to need to buy it anymore because I actually gave you an upgrade to your system no way no way do you need anything in return no of course not yeah so so let me let me go over what I did for your system so your case you dude you're going on one foot on the bottom of your case so uh I I gave you a new case this is an NZXT case um so this is something that you should be able to carry with you like as you upgrade the rest of your system more I updated your graphics card to even something better than a GTX 960 you got to RX 580 now so wow I mean it's it's still you know by this by this point it's still like a little bit aged of a card but it's got 8 GB of vram and it's still very solid for 1080P and a major jump up from the 7870 that you had yeah definitely and then your power supply I mean that thing I have no idea like I think it could potentially be a big piece of junk that could potentially damage parts so uh I replace your power supply with a a true 550 wat from master so that is amazing yeah so actually let's fire this thing up so I can show you it oh yeah definitely I would love to see this oh man this thing is this thing is nice uh I could not ask for more this is amazing power buttons right here oh that's nice did the fans turn on uh I don't the switch is on let me make sure I put it in the right battery backup oh it sounds like it's on oh it is on it's just very quiet it's just very quiet oh my God it's really that quiet my goodness okay yeah so here it is let me plug in the um keyboard and mouse Yep this is fantastic this is a huge upgrade I made sure everything I put into the PC in its state I stress test it uh before get you know bringing it back to there shouldn't be any problems if there is you know just let me know and then we'll walk through and troubleshoot it together but um so let me show you to take this glass off because some people don't know how to so you got to un so unscrew that real quick and then what you do is you pop the glass out you have to like pull it and pop it out it feels weird at first there you but you have to keep on pulling cuz the whole thing comes out yep there you go and then you lift up oh wow yeah oh yeah uh I can take this off right yeah oh actually yeah do the peel have you ever peeled glass before on a computer uh no I haven't actually yeah so then you just you just have to pop it in it it's a more uh nope so just push the glass inward don't worry about the screw oh okay so so pop the glass in yep just push up there you go and then pop that side in too yeah so the way this works is you just so pop out and then you you lift up and then put it back in that is very convenient but when you pop it out uh lift it out because there is a little lift down here you don't want to pull this all the way down cuz it might the glass yeah um so yeah well so take a look at your system there oh yeah that is a nice graphics card oh got a fan down there that's nice yeah this is definitely I like it so let me put this back on but there's also a piece of plastic to peel here so you should peel that so you can get that experience it's one of the most satisfying uh feelings oh oh yeah oh it got stuck oh no oh no I think you're supposed to yeah you're supposed to peel it while it's off y here you go let there you go yeah all right so now you got your super clear glass I was expecting like someone to uh help me uh get stuff done I didn't expect you to actually upgrade the PC to um make it perform better like my God I saw your descriptions and I was like like I he doesn't um build PCS for for free and such I'm not going to ask just going to you know and I and I I was not expecting to um get free upgrades or whatever but thank you so much man people ask me for free stuff all the time I don't give free stuff to people who ask so the fact that you didn't ask that was like a major point for me that I was like okay uh let's help him out so definitely so yeah so your PC is good to go so let's get this uh shut down and you can start I also forgot sign out of my uh YouTube account when you see me watching some videos and stuff you're like I saw you watching a bunch of hermit crows so I just clicked on whatever random thing just to do the stress test essentially I was running like two YouTube tabs with stuff running on top of it just running the two YouTube tabs initially when I got your system was constantly crashing it so I kept that as like the the test to do when I when it um didn't crash when we first met I was like he's probably going to be suspicious at it but then all of a sudden it started crashing and I'm like oh okay yep never mind he's he sees the problem now yeah no I think it's suspicious as all that happens all the time where like you have a problem and then when you're ready to show somebody the problem uh it just doesn't do it right you're good to go so oh yeah definitely I very much appreciate it thanks man yeah no problem so love to meet again at some point just let me know how the PC goes uh if there's any problems again don't hesitate to reach out so yeah definitely all right thanks man all right man you have a good weekend and enjoy that PC okay yeah you too see you so that went as well as I could have hope for he seemed super surprised and was very excited about his new upgrades and was very appreciative of it uh so I couldn't have asked for you know it to go any better in the past when I've upgraded people's systems uh if I use like older less expensive Hardware uh I would inevitably get hate comments from some viewers saying things like oh I gave them a crappy upgrade that I cheaped out you know why didn't I give away better Hardware stuff like that but for me I'd rather help someone out like Logan that has a system in which giving him an rx580 is a big upgrade in itself rather than someone who has say like you know a perfectly functioning RTX 6 uh 3060 and upgrading them to like an RTX 4080 like I want to make an impact the best way that I can within my means and if that means finding people who have really struggling systems and giving them sub 00 graphics cards that you know the upgrade still completely transforms their PC experience then I'll take that any day of the week you know I feel like that's way more impactful but yeah that's going to wrap up for this video hope you all enjoyed uh I want to thank you all as always for watching and for continuing to support the Channel I want to give huge thanks to the channel members I'll make room for them uh for their above and beyond support let me know down in the comments uh what you thought of my diagnosis of Logan's PC do you think I got it spot on or do you think something else could have been going on there also let me know down in the comments did I get you with that surprise twist at the end did you see that coming or did that come out of left field for you um but yeah look forward to reading your comments down below as always be safe out there and I'll see you all in the next stream and our video bye\n"
