FASTEST Ultrawide Gaming Monitor – But at What Cost... - LG 34UC89G-B Review

LG's Ultra Wide Monitors for Gamers: A Review

In the world of gaming monitors, LG has been a pioneer when it comes to Ultra Wide screens. However, it wasn't until recently that they have started to offer a fully fleshed-out product line catering specifically to gamers. The latest addition to their lineup is the 34UC89G-B, which promises to deliver exceptional performance and features for those who take gaming seriously.

While some might poke fun at other brands for their generic "Republic of Gamers" moniker, LG's approach may be more straightforward: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The 34UC89G-B is a serious gamer's monitor, designed to meet the demands of those who require top-notch performance and features.

One of the standout features of this monitor is its G-Sync technology, which ensures that the display remains smooth and responsive even during the most intense gaming sessions. But what really sets it apart is its refresh rate - a staggering 144 Hz, with the option to overclock up to 166 Hz for those who need even more performance. Whether you're playing fast-paced FPS games or immersive RPGs, this monitor has got you covered.

But LG's Ultra Wide monitor is not just about raw performance; it's also designed with the gamer in mind. The stand on this monitor is angular and crimson-streaked, making a bold statement that this is a serious gaming display. The 5-inch height adjustability and 25-degree tilt mean that you can find the perfect viewing position for your gaming setup, while the three degrees of rotation ensure that you can easily switch between different modes without having to adjust anything else.

The IO panel on this monitor is refreshingly easy to access, with just one HDMI 1.4 port, one DisplayPort 1.2 port, and an audio jack all neatly arranged in a convenient location. The integrated hub provides two USB 3.0 ports for fast charging, while the included mouse bungee ensures that your gaming setup stays secure and organized.

For those who might be concerned about compatibility or power consumption, rest assured that this monitor is designed to meet your needs. The USB type B port allows you to power the integrated hub from an external source, making it easy to set up a wireless charging station or use other peripherals without worrying about cables getting in the way. And with three degrees of rotation, you can easily switch between different modes - whether that's to switch between desktop and gaming modes, or to adjust the display settings for a more immersive experience.

In conclusion, LG's 34UC89G-B is a serious contender in the world of gaming monitors. With its G-Sync technology, high refresh rate, and robust feature set, it's clear that this monitor is designed to meet the demands of even the most hardcore gamers. Whether you're looking for top-notch performance, ease of use, or simply a stylish display that makes a statement, the 34UC89G-B is definitely worth considering.

As an added bonus, LG has included some thoughtful touches in their design, such as the integrated mouse bungee and three degrees of rotation. While these might not be features that every gamer will appreciate, they demonstrate a clear attention to detail and a commitment to creating a gaming experience that's both enjoyable and practical. So if you're in the market for a new monitor that can keep up with your gaming demands, the 34UC89G-B is definitely worth taking a closer look at.

In addition to its impressive features and design, LG has also committed to sustainability in their products. According to their website, they use environmentally-friendly materials whenever possible, reducing waste and minimizing their carbon footprint. This commitment to sustainability is just one of many reasons why the 34UC89G-B stands out from other gaming monitors on the market.

But enough about the monitor itself - let's talk about the real question: is it worth your money? Only time (and experience) will tell, but with its impressive feature set and robust design, this monitor is certainly a serious contender in the world of gaming displays. Whether you're a hardcore gamer or just looking for a reliable display to complement your gaming setup, the 34UC89G-B is definitely worth considering.

So if you're ready to upgrade your gaming experience and take your display game to the next level, look no further than LG's 34UC89G-B. With its impressive features, robust design, and commitment to sustainability, this monitor is sure to deliver an unparalleled gaming experience that will leave you wondering how you ever managed without it.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enLG may have pioneered Ultra Wide monitors over three years agoBut it's taken them until now to offer a fully fleshed-out product line catering to gamersintroducing the 34UC89G-BAs much as we fun of other brands for s*** like 'Republic of Gamers'Anything is better than 34UC89G-B.Anyway, it's their first Ultrawide to offer G-Sync and a high refresh rateWe're talking 144 Hertzoverclockable up to166 Hertz, but is it worth your money?Only one way to find out.Savage Jerky is created without the use of Nitrates orpreservatives. Use offer code 'LTT' to save 10% through the link in the video description. The angular, crimson-streaked stand kind of says it all. This monitor is for 'gamers' with a capital 'G'.It's got about 5 inches of height adjust, 25 degrees of tilt andlike many LG stands, no swivel. It does give you three degrees of rotation though, in case your jerk co-workers decide to troll you, so...That's something! The refreshingly easy-to-access IO panel has just one HDMI 1.4 in,one DisplayPort 1.2 in, and an audio jack, then we get a USB type B upstream port to power the integrated hub, with 2 USB 3 type-A ports with fast charging. It apparently also has an integrated mouse bungee that \"helps your organize your space\"a claim that I'd be happy to validate for you,if only our unit actually came with it. The IPS panel is really nice though, with accurate colors, great coverage of the S-RGB color gamut and high contrast, with higher-than-average300 nits brightness. You could do some basic content creation on this thing for your let's play videos, for example. But what's it like to game on it? Well in a word?'Sweeeee'As with all curved Ultrawides, the expanded field of view offers, not only a higher degree of immersion, but sometimes even an advantage in games, where spotting an enemy or an objectivehalf a second before the competition can make a difference. The 5 millisecond grey-to-grey response times minimize ghosting andfor everyone running NVIDIA graphics,G-Sync keeps the panel's refresh rate tuned to the FPS coming out of your graphics card to eliminate tearing and stuttering. And finally,Yes, the monitor runs at 144 Hertz, meaning the image on screen refreshes a hundred and forty four times per second,44% higher than the fastest Ultrawide that we've had in the lab previously. And it's evenoverclockable,up to 166 Hertz, though your mileage may vary.Every individual panel overclocks a little bit differently, and ourswasn't a spectacular overclocker. Now, 16:9 monitors are available with refresh rates of up to240 Hertz at this point, but unless you're global elite or some BS, the odds of feeling a difference between144 Hertz and240 Hertz versus the night and day difference between 60 Hertz, or even 100 Hertz and144 is relatively slim, so with this product you're not choosing betweensmoother onscreen animations and Ultrawide immersiveness. You can have both! Which doesn't mean that it's without compromises.I have a confession to make.I was super pumped for this monitor to arrive because for whatever reason,I thought it was running 3440x1440 resolutionat 166 Hertz, which would have meant that it was using the shiny newDisplayPort 1.4 standard. And yes, that is what excites me. I've got no shame about that.So then when it arrived and it was2560x1080, I went through all the stages of grief.Denial- \"No, it can't be.\"Guilt- \"Maybe I saw144 Hertz I thought1440p oh God!\"And even anger- \"They've had 1440p ultra wides for years! Why are we going backwards?\"Until finally I reachedacceptance, because depending on who you ask the lower rescould be considered as much a feature as it is a problem.A lower resolution makes it easier to get higher frame rates in games.A 1080P Ultrawide is just over half the number of pixels of a1440p Ultrawide, so if you're not going to be able to play Doom at150 frames per second, 3440x1440 resolution, then why pay for all of those pixels? Better to drop the resolution, increase your graphics settings, and enjoy yourbuttery smooth, golden river of frames. So then with that said: should you buy this monitor over say the Acer Predator x34?A similarly priced, similarlyfeatured, in that they both have G-Sync and IPS panels, Ultrawide, with a higher resolutionbut a slower refresh rate? That depends. If you're all about the games, especially fast paced ones, then it's pretty easy to recommend this oneUltraw ide is an awesome experience. But if you do a lot of anything else, in my opinion1080p at this size ispretty pixely looking, and I'll personally still be waiting excitedly for these features in a higher resolution model.Dollar Shave Club deliversa game-changing shave.
