**Car Buying 101: Tips and Tricks**
When it comes to buying a car, many people think that everyday driving is the same as driving on the road every day. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. The type of car you buy can greatly impact its longevity and maintenance costs.
For example, if you're not planning on using your car every day, it's perfectly fine to buy a smaller engine or a less powerful car. In fact, many people buy cars that they only drive on weekends or as a toy, and they find that these cars are just as reliable as their everyday driving counterparts. However, if you plan on driving your car every single day, you're pushing your luck.
For instance, Carlos Carson points out that big boys love to get the V8s in their Camaros, but those engines tend to wear out quickly. On the other hand, V6 engines are generally more reliable and can be a good choice if you're not planning on driving like a lunatic. However, if you do want the power of a V8, don't settle for a V6 engine - it's just not worth it.
In contrast, Audi D2 and D3 models with 4.2 liter V8 engines are a different story altogether. These cars are considered rich man's toys due to their high-tech features and expensive parts. However, they can also be incredibly beautiful and enjoyable to drive. If you're not a wealthy individual, it's best to avoid these cars unless you have a good mechanic who knows what he's doing.
Funky Monkey brings up another point about Honda's Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology in vehicles like the Ridgeline. While VCM can provide some benefits, such as improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, it also has its downsides. One of the main issues is that it can cause oil consumption if not properly maintained. In fact, many people who own these cars will start to notice burning oil after a certain number of miles.
To avoid this problem, Funky Monkey recommends disabling the VCM system altogether. This may seem like a hassle, but trust us, it's worth it in the long run. If you're going to keep your car for a while, it's better to be safe than sorry and disable the VCM system. Not only will this prevent oil consumption, but it'll also help extend the life of your engine and other components.
Overall, when buying a car, it's essential to consider your driving habits and needs before making a decision. Whether you're looking for a reliable everyday driver or a high-performance toy, there's a car out there that's right for you. Just remember to do your research, choose the right car for your lifestyle, and always prioritize maintenance and upkeep to ensure your car lasts for years to come.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrev up your engines well it's a sad day the death of the Ford Fiesta they're no longer going to be yanking Ford Fiestas the SUVs are reigning Supreme and they've buried most of the cars they got to be SUVs now right now of course you can't buy them in the United States they stop selling them here a while ago but they were still some in England and now they're not even going to be selling them in England because everybody they feel wants an s-u-v the English love the fiestas they zooped them up made them go faster they're inexpensive cars and so the kids would buy them and soup them up like American kids will soup up Honda Civics to make them faster well they're not going to be making them anymore they're very popular in England Ford says well they're not even going to make an electric car and they're just scrapping the whole idea because of course they want to make SUVs that they can charge more money for the more money you pay on a car the more profit they make the low end cars have low in profit the higher end cars have higher in profits so of course they only want to sell expensive cars they don't want to sell the cheap ones anymore last quarter the fiesta was the sixth best-selling car model and the UK so they were selling them you know but they just said oh we're not gonna make them but we're going to sell the people what they want who cares what they think we're going to throw SUVs at them and in the case of England they're replacing it with a puma which is a small hybrid SUV because of course you know the Europeans are going into hybrid and electric cars they're trying to make people stop driving gasoline in diesel cars so it only made sense that they're getting rid of the fiesta so it's been around since 77 a long time but it's going away now well isn't it trusting one our goal AI That's supposed to do this full self drive and autonomous driving stuff the company's now shut down Ford put a bunch of money in Volkswagen put a bunch of money in and now the money is the company doesn't exist anymore they shut it down now there's 2 000 people they work for the company and of course they give the money oh we'll try to find another job yeah I know that works they never finding people at their jobs it's just the BS they throw out to make it look like they're nice guys and here's the baloney they throw out I can't believe the crap these people listen to this in coordination with our shareholders the decision has been made that Argo AI will not continue on its Mission as a company my God what a load of baloney they can't even call Things by their name we don't exist anymore because we screwed up we didn't make anything useful and now we're shutting down losing all the investors a billion something dollars now Ford they took it as a loss they wrote it off instead of having to profit this third quarter 2022 they got net loss because of this money and first thing was well we're no longer going to work on autonomous vehicles like Robo taxis we're going to work on things that help people assistance so goodbye Argo Ai and the consensus among the financial people is that well our go ahead went off because they couldn't get any new investors just throw more money into the money pit and Volkswagen said well they're not going to longer invest in Argo AI which of course led to the downfall of now it doesn't exist as a company that was the last soccer and finally the Germans said well I think we lose this one let's leave this company alone there's more nonsense from the ARG go AI Executives right we are incredibly grateful for the dedication of the Argo AI team and they're so proud of our achievements together well they didn't achieve anything they didn't make any self-driving anything right achievements they don't even do anything and then they praise themselves you know it's like the football team that loses all their games they finally score a touchdown they still lose the game and they're all jumping up and down World workout great where look how great yeah come on now you lost people a lot of money a failed company not we achieve remarkable things remarkable we did such a great job Pat ourselves on the back for being failures what's happening to our society Nestor Toledo says Scotty can I ignore a p420 code if it doesn't affect anything no oil burning or coolant it only affect my long-term fuel Trims on idle everyone's okay otherwise I had a customer the Toyota that drove his with that car for five years right five years ran perfectly fine he brought it in the sixth year and he says oh could you turn my check engine light off because I got to get inspected you know and I said Lo and be all the PO420 was gone he had a new code because his gas cap was bad I put a new gas cap that fixed that but it no longer had the PO420 code now so your code is gone so what'd you do you said nothing I'm just driving I said now wait a second that doesn't make any sense I said are you buying your fuel somewhere else he says yeah I switched to this Shell station that's closer to my house and the gasoline there was somewhat better and then PO420 is inefficient catalytic converter it became more efficient with the metal gasoline and it went away if it runs okay fine people drive him years that way the only problem is if you live where they do state emissions back then you'll fail unless you can get it resided and clears enough of the mill not ready so that you can get it inspected sometimes you can sometimes you can't but they can run perfectly fine years that way Perez says Scotty what are your thoughts on buying the first generation of a proven reliable vehicle plan on waiting for the 4Runner to refresh to buy one I'm never a fan of buying anything that is all brand new now if you're talking about the style is different the colors yada yada the computer panel yeah that's one thing but I would not buy one that has a brand new engine design or a brand new transmission to sign because that's big money and if they screw up on it you're the one stuck with the problem for example when Toyota first went to their variable valve timing and the Toyota Avalon the Seal's all blue and the engines went out and they had to replace a lot of those a lot of people didn't know they paid for in the South but Toyota kind of a secret warranty and they replaced a lot of them free because it was the first generation the new ones don't do that anymore but I am not a fan of buying anything new when it is Cutting Edge new technology and engines or Transmissions you don't want to be a guinea pig for some company well it's been out a few years the model is one thing what it looks like the paint colors man I don't care about but engine or training if it's all new Idaho back until they've been out a while see how they last I'll give you a perfect example God just brought me a Nissan Rogue and it had the new three-cylinder variable compression Engine with the turbos first year they put that three cylinder one in it's got a brand new CVT transmission Nation that's a new design I wouldn't buy it I wouldn't you're being a guinea pig now the guy I bought it wasn't stupid he bought it from a dealer in Poughkeepsie New York and the guy gives lifetime engine and transmission powertrain warranty on his new cars so if it did blow up they'd have to fix it for free so in that case you know my net go right ahead but I would never personally buy one until it's been out a few years sir widget says Scotty what's the best question to ask or things to look at when importing a car from Japan the first question is are you willing to drive a car that's got the steering wheel on the wrong side there's steering wheel is on the right side not in the left like us I've had many customers buy beautiful cars from Japan they don't drive them much there they've got very few highways there it's a small country most of it is mountains that you can't drive on they don't put the mileage I've driven them I don't like driving a right hand drive car the one problem is a lot of the parts are different too you'll find it's not standardized they have slightly smaller engines usually often different Transmissions when something breaks you might not be able to get the parts for it I always realize that don't buy them as an everyday driver buy them as a toy a weekend toy and then they're fine but everyday drivers you're kind of pushing your luck there you might not be able to get parts for it and driving every day on the wrong side of the road you're asking for trouble it's harder to drive Carlos Carson says Scotty what are your thoughts on the Camaro V6 2010-15 well I am not a GM fan but if you're going to get a Camaro the big boys all want the V8s and they're all worn out by the time you buy them used right but the V6 guys generally don't drive as fast and you can often get a good one that's been taken care of beautiful looking car that still runs pretty good now that said it's a V6 engine I would not buy one that had you know 200 000 miles probably on its last legs but if you can find a lower mileage one it's probably going to last longer because it'll be in better shape than a guy who bought a V8 and drove like a lunatic in most cases that's true you know if you don't want to drive like a lunatic yeah get one but if you're a speed demon don't buy the V6 you'll be disappointed you'd want the V8 power strident says what do you think of an Audi a D2 and D3 with a 4.2 liter V8 I'm gonna buy one I know they're kind of old but they have everything I want I want to know about the engine most they actually make pretty good engines but all the rest is insane they're techno technology is so high the parts cost a fortune Audis all become endless money pets I had a customer buy one of those and thought Oh I got a great deal and I'm saying you think you got a great deal then a couple years later all the money he'd spent on it was more than he paid for the car repairing the stupid thing and he said I'll never buy another one of those things I got that out of my system they're beautiful looking cars and they ride mine but they are rich men's toys especially the V8s if you're not a rich man believe me don't buy one unless you know a good audio mechanic and he's a friend guy comes here from Rhode Island he's got one he loves it right but that's because his friend that he went to high school with is a mechanic and an Audi dealer and he works for half price on the weekends at his own house grads and his friend takes the car to him and he doesn't rip him off and he loves and even now the guy warned you got to do this maintenance you got to do that man so it wouldn't last any time whatever you do don't buy those little four snow turbos they blow up all the time I mean the guy knew everything about him and he told them which one to buy and he's happy with it because he bought it used for about one third of what a new one went for and he has a pro mechanic that's his friend that's not going to rip him off actually knows how to fix the thing Funky Monkey says Scotty what are your thoughts on Honda's variable cylinder management and vehicles like the Ridgeline is it worth it to buy an aftermarket muzzler to disable it yes it is if you want long life you will get slightly lower gas marks I've seen people get two to three miles a gallon worse gas mileage on a road driving in time right then they won't burn oil if you don't disable it as they get old they will start burning oil I've explained numerous times you got a V6 engine right you start disabling cylinders instead of having a hot cylinder hot cylinder hot cylinder and then three hot cylinders on the other side of the V6 cylinders that aren't firing or cold I'm now next to it is hot the metals will start warping because of the temperature differential they find out that it wears the cylinders it wears the Pistons it wears everything and then they start burning oil if you're going to keep it a long time you would want to deactivate that system I mean if you bought one new something drove it around a while you get rid of them before they have 90 000 miles you probably won't care but as they age you will carry those turn into oil burners and everything wears out because of all that thermal problems that it has when it has hot cylinder next door Cold Stone next to a hot cylinder it's just a stupid idea but politicians get involved because better games good idea no it isn't it's a stupid idea if you want your car to last so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that Bell\n"
