ATARI LYNX - MY COLLECTION - LGH

**A Nostalgic Trip Down Memory Lane: The Atari Lynx**

As I sat down to play with my latest acquisition, a box game that I thought was going to be a blast from the past, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. It's amazing how some games can evoke such strong memories, transporting us back to a time when we were kids and our lives were simple. In this case, the game in question turned out to be "Tom's Adventures", also known as Slime World, which was one of my favorite childhood games.

As I watched footage of the game, it reminded me a lot more of what it was like playing it as a kid. The gameplay was a mix of side-scrolling and top-down elements, making it both familiar and exciting all over again. I couldn't help but wonder how many hours I spent playing this very same game when I was younger. "Slime World" is definitely one of those games that holds up well even today, and I'm thrilled to have added it to my collection.

**A Collector's Dilemma**

As a collector, I've found that some games are notoriously hard to come by, especially in good condition. The Atari Lynx is no exception. With its limited lifespan from 1989 to 1995, many of these games have become rare and highly sought after by collectors. While some games are easy to find at reasonable prices, others can be prohibitively expensive due to their rarity. It's a challenge that I've faced time and again in my collecting journey.

One of the biggest challenges is the abundance of " bulk" listings on eBay and other marketplaces. This makes it difficult for collectors to pinpoint rare or hard-to-find games without getting caught up in a sea of duplicates and games that are not what they seem. It's almost as if people are more interested in selling entire collections of Atari Lynx games at once, rather than individual titles, which can make it harder for collectors to find the specific game they're looking for.

**A Brief History of the Atari Lynx**

While I was digging through my collection and reminiscing about old times, I couldn't help but wonder how the Atari Lynx came to be. The console itself is an interesting story, one that involves the work of several individuals and companies. While Atari didn't invent the hand-held gaming concept, they did play a significant role in popularizing it with their own line of handheld consoles.

The Atari Lynx was actually designed by a company called Tengen, which was based on the principles developed by EPYX (Electronic Price Yielding eXperiments). This company's idea for a color hand-held console led to the creation of the Lynx, which would eventually become one of the most iconic consoles of its era.

**Growing Up with Atari**

As I grew up playing games like Slime World and other titles on my Atari Lynx, I began to realize just how much the console had shaped my childhood. For me, it was more than just a device – it was an extension of my imagination and creativity. The Lynx allowed me to explore virtual worlds that were both familiar and strange, introducing me to characters like Tom (the protagonist of Slime World) who became lifelong friends.

I'm not the only one who grew up with Atari consoles; I'd love to hear from others out there who have a similar story to share. Did you grow up with an Atari Lynx? Were you more of a Nintendo fanboy, or did you stick with Sega or other console manufacturers? Share your experiences and stories in the comments below!

**Box Game Review: Slime World**

Speaking of which, my latest acquisition is actually one that I'm very excited about. A box game from the Atari Lynx era, it's in surprisingly good condition considering its age. The artwork on the cover is a nice touch, with a screenshot of Tom (the protagonist) stuck to the top, showcasing the game's unique blend of side-scrolling and top-down gameplay.

Overall, I'd say that Slime World is definitely a game worth revisiting, if only for the nostalgia factor. While it may not be considered one of the "top 25" or "top 10" games for the Atari Lynx by some, it's still an enjoyable title that holds up well today.

**Collector's Corner: What Do You Have?**

If you're a fellow collector out there, I'd love to hear from you! Are you stuck with an overwhelming collection of Atari Lynx games, or do you have a specific title that you've been searching for? Share your stories and experiences in the comments below, and who knows – we might just be able to help each other out.

**Conclusion**

As I finished playing through Slime World on my Atari Lynx, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the nostalgia trip it had provided. There's something special about revisiting games from our childhoods, and exploring new ones that challenge us in new ways.

The Atari Lynx may not be as widely remembered today as some of its contemporaries, but it played a significant role in shaping my gaming experiences and memories. If you're a fellow collector or just someone who loves retro gaming, I invite you to join me on this nostalgic journey through the world of Slime World.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwell alright guys I know we're all bored we're all at home freaking out pulling hair out of her head at least I would think not us gamers cuz that's gamers well we can fight back we can fight back by playing something so today I'm actually gonna talk about the atari lynx first before we talk about what I have in my collection which isn't very big it used to be a long time ago but of course as a kid you get rid of it to get something else and I am one of those unfortunate kids I had a big stack of atari lynx games in fact I had an atari lynx before I had a game gear that's right the Sega boy the classically trained had a lynx before a game gear and I think that's a lot and do with it was I believe out first now the history behind it is and this is a weird one the Lynx came out in 1989 but did you know that the Lynx was not a TARDIS console that's right guys the Atari Lynx was actually developed by former amiga developers and they were asked by a guy who actually had joined Epyx the Epyx was a software company well when he pitched out this console to second Nintendo both of course said no because they had their own thing in works so Atari picked it up so what Atari was going to do was going to be the main distribution and Epyx was going to be the main developer for this of course with Atari as well so therefore you had two people making games yeah maybe so at the same time ep YX went bankrupt a buddy year later now that was unfortunate but very fortunate for Atari so Atari got to own every right and everything about the atari lynx became theirs Epyx was no more and that is one reason why you see some Epyx games like california games and so on on this console because they were actually the inventor of this console with the help from some boys from Amiga so all we're gonna do in this video is basically you know take some boredom away and just take a look at what I have again not much but at least it's cool ok guys so first we're going to start with the console I mean that is the bear part of this whole thing was rather big I mean if you thought the gamegear was big this is pretty much my opinion bigger it's thicker love footprints about the same which gives you the comfort of your gameplay which is really good and there's a lot of things shared that this has that the game year as well if you were to do the LCD mod they're the same screen so the game view screen in this screen are the same screens when especially when you do the mod I don't know about the backlight mod I'm going to be doing some work on one of these because I own two unfortunately the two I own are the same unit I wish I had different models of it but as you can see here this is the system this is the handheld it was a very very thick product and but felt very comfortable in your hand when you were playing it especially now as a older person now the other thing about this unit was if you see you have buttons here and you have buttons here now what that was for if you were left or right-handed you would flip the console based on your gameplay so you could play this way you know or this way that was brilliant that was one thing that I thought was really good that Atari did on this console as we now know Epyx developer pyx had called it the Handy system really like that was gonna fly like no wonder they went under just saying so here's my boxed version the box isn't the greatest I mean it's got somewhere here it's got the original price tag I think of 119 was it from Compu center I don't even remember coffee center out here maybe it was bought in the States who knows but a very basic box what was really cool about it this is really cool you knew what you were getting because the picture is actual size and it says on their actual size unfortunately - missing the packing contents inside I have it wrapped in some nice soft you know packaging whatever to keep it good because the one that's actually in there I think is my better condition one or my better can one goes in my showcase can't remember but there is one in there but unfortunately it's not the longer one like I had when I was a child it is the same model as the one I just showed you now I don't have a lot for games this is where I am disappointed and very sad back in the day when I was growing up I played a lot on this console especially at night in my bed or you know got grounded or whatever the case was I had to go to my room or a board or what I picked up this Lynx and I played on my bed and like the game gear it was a battery monster so of course you needed a power adapter at the same time there was a game that I'm still looking for called APB now APB you were a police car you drove around it was tow nuts in it I mean this is a typical police pun type thing but I love the game it was just one of those games that you know it just kept bringing me back to it it was just a fun game and I don't know if I could play it now I do want it in my collection because of my nostalgia for it and how much I did play it and I can very well guarantee that I can't remember half the games I played on this system but APB stands out massive and I don't own it as you can see in the footage I mean you know it's kind of hard to say is it a game to go back to or not but I thought it was fantastic so it's definitely something that's on my radar and I will be looking for it so I only own six games for this console right now yeah and and it's it's been hard like I've been watching on eBay and so on I just find this console really hard to come by as far as games console accessories everything I'll start off with my loose games and we'll start my Batman Returns now Batman Returns I mean it is a decent game it pretty much like every other version of it I wouldn't be able to tell you that this is the definitive version or it's the version to own if you don't already have it and you have links as for it wasn't the game that I remember playing on the links at the time but it does look pretty good it does show off some of the power formitz of the links the links was also considered an 8 / 16 bit system not quite sure I agree with that I would say 8 bit at best this electoral cop this is pretty much considered as one of the gems that are on this system now again it is a game I did own and I did play I don't remember my fondness for it because this was something that I played a long time ago and it didn't really have a lasting impression on me as such as like a BB did but it looks like a ton of fun like I think this game is something to revisit I think it looks like it could be a really neat game and I got a revisit it because every time I look up the games for this thing it's in the must-have top 25 so I'm definitely going to check it over one more time guys a console designed by Epyx specially designed by them whether or not they had anything to do with it in the end or a year later well they started it in 96 or 86 sorry console only lived till about 95 and it would not be good if they didn't have for example California games on it now this is a great version of California games and it definitely is a game that sticks with me it is a game that I can remember going back to and having fun and doing a skateboarding and into water surfing and stuff and the water surfing for me it was terrible I always crashed I could never I call it crash and burn dude but I loved the skateboarding part and so on I just think that California games definitely was a definitive game on it and Epyx God rest your souls NFL football and NFL football I do remember playing some sports games on this I think I played more football on those led games you remember those led games we had to dude dude dude your LED lights would move near me or whatever me or whatever would happen but I remember playing a lot of football on those or to lcd old things I'm old I just face it I'm old but that's what I played most of my football on believe it or not and this game I had in my collection because I do remember it I do remember at the time I guess I thought it was great graphics but I mean if you go to the game gears version of a football game this looks terrible but it looks like it would have been fun at the time for sure but overall I think it would have been totally a game that I would have passed up if I was trying to find it for my collection seeing it boxed had to pick it up this next game kind of I thought it was much more than I remembered it being I thought it being more like I guess it was kind of like I thought it was more like a golden axe game for what I remembered but it turns out it's more like a I don't know kind of like an altered beast without the altered does that make sense and that would have been rag are now rag are I don't know if I would call it a definitive game on it or a game that you would definitely you know have to go back to type game but again it was a box game it was so hard to find anything and right now I mean honestly out of it all I think California games electro cop or two of the things I would want it in my collection Batman Returns was a bonus but any other game I find if the price is right I just go for it for a simple reason that one my collections horrible for the atari lynx and nothing I want to ask if you guys have an atari lynx or an atari lynx collection or whatever share it with me you can email me what you have you can comment below did you grow up with an atari lynx you know i want to hear about these things especially now we're all sitting at home doing pretty much nothing and it would be nothing do you know chat a little chat a little chat a little my last box game is actually not bad I think this game is a definite go back to and that is slime world I believe it's what they call it Tom's adventures so he's Tom and he's stuck in slime world and slime world I guess you can call it a bit of a side scroller meets top-down I don't know type a game and I did on this as a kid I just can't remember it too much when I see the video and I'm looking at footage it reminds me a lot more of what it was because I definitely actually probably in the best condition out of all the boxes the other ragaar when I had to hold like this just so it wouldn't pop open it was this this one it's in really good shape and as you can see there there's a screen shot for you even though you just seen some video but it was just you know I think I got this is a three pack and it's just lucky that slam world was in there because I do remember having that as a kid and it's really hard as a collector get you know certain things that you had when you were growing up certain things that are not ridiculously priced and a lot of Atari Lynx games aren't that bad for pricing but a lot of it is and a lot of people aren't selling it one by one they're selling it as a bulk item and there's a lot of stuff that you definitely don't want
