How to bake Bacon Sweet Cornbread _ Recipe

**The Art of Making Bacon Sweet Cornbread**

As we begin our journey to make this classic American dish, it's essential to start with the right ingredients. We're going to need some brown sugar, salt, milk, and molasses. These are the building blocks of a delicious sweet cornbread. While we can use store-bought dry mix with powder and soda already mixed in with flour, making it from scratch is a real treat.

For our dry mix, we'll start with 1 and 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour. This will be the foundation of our cornbread, providing structure and texture. Next, we'll add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to help our bread rise, followed by 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of baking powder for an extra boost. We also need a cup of cornmeal, which adds a delightful crunch to our cornbread. Don't be afraid to adjust the amount according to your preference. Now it's time to add some sweetness with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and another 1/4 cup of cane sugar – this is where our sweet cornbread gets its name.

With our dry mix complete, let's move on to our wet ingredients. We'll need three fresh eggs, which will provide moisture and richness to our bread. We also have a teaspoon of old-fashioned molasses for added depth in flavor. And of course, no bacon sweet cornbread would be complete without some good quality milk. Now it's time to whisk these wet ingredients together until they're smooth and well combined.

Now that we have both our dry and wet mixes ready, let's combine them in a large bowl. Start by slowly pouring the wet mix into the dry mix, stirring gently until everything is fully incorporated. The consistency should be similar to a light pancake mix – not too thick, not too thin. If needed, add a bit more flour or cornmeal to get it just right.

While our bacon sizzles in the pan, let's prepare it for our cornbread. We'll need about half a pound of American-style bacon, cut into small pieces. Yes, you read that right – real bacon is essential to this dish. Now that our batter is ready, pour it into a greased 12x12 inch black iron pan and add the crumbled bacon on top.

Place the pan over medium-high heat and cover with a lid when we're done cooking. As we wait for the cornbread to cook, let's discuss how long it takes. Depending on your coals, this will take about half an hour or so. Now, let's flip the pan and give it a good stir before covering it again.

As we continue to cook our sweet cornbread, the aroma of bacon and molasses fills the air. When the toothpick comes out clean, we know it's done. Let the cornbread cool for a half hour before slicing into it. This will allow the flavors to meld together beautifully.

And now, the moment of truth – time to serve! I like to pair my bacon sweet cornbread with a hearty breakfast, complete with eggs and country home fries. But this cornbread is also perfect on its own or as a side dish for your next barbecue gathering. And of course, no bacon sweet cornbread would be complete without a generous helping of butter – so go ahead, add it to the top and take a bite.
