least get very close but of course there are many monitors on the market and there is one that's more or less identical to this that being the ACA x34 so how does it all compare and where does this thing come into is it the best monitor well let's find out well it all starts with assembly and assembly of most monitors these days is very simple and this one is pretty simple you just literally need to use the quick release to quickly attach the LE stand to the monitor itself and then there's a few more bits you need to clip on and there's a couple of thumb screws that you sort of screw in but it's not going to take you very long and it actually is pretty straightforward once you got this thing on your desk you will immediately see how good looking this thing is it goes for an industrial design and it strikes a nice balance between gamer and something that you could easily have on your desk in an office it's a bit more out there than most and I would say that while it is definitely one of if not the best looking monor I've had my desk the Philips Ultra wide is a bit more minimalist and a lot of people probably prefer that this goes for something that's big really striking and will get people talking and that is definitely relayed by the fact that the Rog logo is actually uh put on your desk in a sort of Halo like fashion so it's definitely out there and a lot of people will like this but it's not as out there as some things despite the fact that it does cast a logo onto your desk which can be turned off by the way but overall it's a very nice looking monitor the front of the monitor the bezels are very slim they're not the slimmest in the business but they do a very good job of disguising that and I don't think anyone's going to have any complaints here it's all about angles as well it's not a front flat uh front to the monitor you've got some angles on the bottom which is a brushed metall likee finish and overall it's a very good looking monitor the stand itself has plenty of adjustments but we'll get onto those a bit later it is a metal Affair the whole thing is very heavy and it does sort of extend a little bit into your desk so if you've got quite a shallow desk then this probably actually isn't really that suitable but most desks I will imagine will cope absolutely fine move around to the back of the Monitor and the industrial design continues this is definitely something that has had a lot of time to actually design this thing it's really goodlooking it's got a load of textures and it's almost a waste if you've got this thing up against a wall because you won't see the back of it it's all very cleverly cap managed as well you've got some cable management hooks that actually go onto the stand itself and sort of guide the cables around the back of the display and then the back of the display actually has a cover so once you've inserted all the relevant cables in the back end of the monitor simply slip the cover back on and then you have a nice and tidy display which again will help if you actually have this thing kned against a wall and you can see the back of it ports wise you'll find a display port 1.2 and you're going to want to use this to get the full potential of this monitor unlocks with the 100 HZ the g-sync and of course the 3440 x1440 resolution but if you do want to plug in a games console there is an HDMI socket but it's not HDMI 2.0 which it's not going to affect most people but this is a monitor that costs about £1,000 I don't see why it's not been included as if you do want to play a UHD Blu-ray player you're not going to be able to do so on this Monitor and view it in the full resolution which is a shame and especially now we have the Xbox One S yes this definitely is a missed opportunity and it is something I would like to see implemented in a future model elsewhere you've also got a USB 3.0 sockets four of them to be precise but these are hidden beneath the flap on the back which means if you want to quickly insert a USB device like a memory stick then you're not going to be able to do so very easily as for the onscreen display of the monitor this is all controlled with a buttons located on the back of the monitor at the left hand side if you're looking at it from the front then you simply just round with your right hand side and then you have a four-way selector with a selection of buttons located underneath not only is the menu very clear not only is it very responsive but it's a real joy to use I genuinely have not used an on-screen display that has been this easy to use so congratulations to Asus you have literally cracked it here so if anyone else wants to make a monitor this is how you do it in the onscreen menus you'll find all the adjustments you need you have things like racing mode Sr GB mode and all The Usual Suspects but I usually just put these things in srgb mode and lower the brightness if I can slash if I need to the menu is also where you'll find the ability to overclock this monitor to its true potential with the 100 HZ overclocked refresh rate simply select 100 HZ reboot the Monitor and then it's ready to go as long as you use the display port connection overall very easy to use very easy to calibrate if that is your bag and most people here well they will will be very impressed as for the physical adjustments of the display you'll find the monitor has swivel so you can swivel it from left to right and this also reveals how good the viewing angles are on the monitor which in both the vertical and horizontal plane are very very good I would expect this from an IPS panel and they do meet my expectations you also find you have tilt so you can tilt the monitor up and down we don't have pivot here but for obvious reasons you're not going to want to Pivot this anyway unless you're some sort of madman but you won't be able to do this so if that is your bag you can't do it but you also find height adjust so if you have a desk uh that is a little bit too high a little bit low or you just don't have a seat that adjusts then you can get the monitor to the perfect position so that's everything you need to know about the monitor but how does it actually perform in games this is a gaming Monitor and not like one of those cheap gaming monitors that has one gaming feature and everything else is rubbish this is a gaming monitor that excels in pretty much all areas having an ultrawide display has become very popular now a lot of games support it and the curve on the display really do help you to get immersed in what you're seeing and the first game I booted up was just course 3 now the biggest thing you need to know about this monitor other than the monitor itself is the fact that it's quite demanding very demanding to actually play games on and the higher end titles are going to need some real horsepower I've been basing all of my impressions of a GTX 1080 if you hook this up to something like a g GTX 750ti you are definitely not going to be getting the same experience but regardless playing Just c 3 on a combination of this Monitor and a GTX 1080 was truly mesmerizing genuinely it took my breath away and made me remember why I got into PC gaming in the first place the the experience is just so Superior to consoles sorry guys but this is truly where it's at yes this is a very expensive monitor but playing this is a real Joy the colors pop the refresh rate is super smooth and running just c 3 at an average of around about 70 frames a second with g-sync is a true true amazing experience and as soon as I've move to something that's a little bit more demanding in the sense of a firstperson shooter I booted up some Battlefield Hardline and while I definitely can say that it doesn't feel quite as responsive uh something like the RG Swift or any monitor that has a 144 165 HZ refresh rate it's definitely struck the right balance between having something that looks amazing and feels amazing using the sniper using the assault class it didn't matter what it was I was finding that I was able to get some really good kills in there get some good score But ultimately again it's just a real joy to use and if you're someone that plays a lot of games you're going to get your money's worth out of this monitor the final game I booted up was some grid Auto Sport this ran at constant 100 100 frames a second maybe dipped once uh but this was the game there not really nothing the mon monitor could do about it but again it's a really nice immersive experience and the combination of all of the above the IPS the g-sync the refresh rate just everything was a truly truly magical experience and this maybe sounds that I'm being too positive about the monitor or maybe it sounds like I'm not being detailed enough but it's a really really strange thing to describe and the best way I can describe gsync is that there's nothing wrong with the image everything just works and providing you've got the graphics card to back it up this monitor is just that it literally transports you into the game it's everything that the game designers are almost imagining in their head when the concept artists are imagining what these environments should look like this monitor really does recreate that and it's just a truly truly fantastic experience but of course it's not just gaming this applies to if you're doing some video editing like of course I do a lot of myself I still think having an ultrawide display is the way to go the curve itself it doesn't really bother me I know there are some YouTube guys and some editors out there that say that it affects the lines so if they're doing some work in After Effects or something like that it makes it a little bit more harder or a little bit is that right a little bit harder a little bit more hard I don't know um I personally don't find that but I I think it's going to come down to what you're used to and how much you can tolerate the curve but for me I think a curved Ultra wide is definitely the way to go having a flat Ultra wide means the curve the corners are a little bit uh too far away in my opinion so this is definitely the best form factor in my opinion and if you're just going to use this for General use well I'm not really sure why you're spending quite so much on a monitor but it is a really nice experience the main bar really is that if you go onto YouTube or watch any sort of content that's in 16x9 then you are going to have black bars and this is going to put off but likewise if you watch 21 by9 content you're going to get the opposite and it's going to be a really nice experience when watching movies or watching um certain YouTube videos Ash Taylor for instance uh does a lot of his content in 21 by9 so that's a great place to start and so I believe it's now time to wrap up at the start of the video I mentioned is this better than the x34 and is this the best monitor out there well it's a very difficult question to answer because both of these things are high end and it's very easy to say whichever one is cheapest go for that one but people that are spending this amount of money on a monitor they basically want the best is this the best monitor out there well it's remarkably similar to the x34 both of them the ideas behind them I would say are the best monitors out there it would definitely be between these two things if you want an ultra wide display as the curve is excellent the IPS panel is Rich and both of them have a 100 HZ ref ref fresh rate those of you that want 69 are better off looking at RG Swift or ACA Predator monitor both of which you can find at the little I actually as I've already done reviews for them but if you want one single monitor then I think an ultra wide like this is the way to go is this better than the x34 very difficult to say as I haven't actually used the x34 for longer than a couple hours of at an event but I can say that I will be testing the x34 in 2 weeks time so we will be a ble to give a full verdict and revisit this topic but if you're watching this video and you're wondering should I buy this monitor well if you can get over the cash I really don't think you're going to regret buying this monitor as it is class leading performance in gaming and in general use and if you are a real professional and you really need 100% of DCI color space or something then maybe this isn't the right monitor for you but for most people this is definitely the creme Diller Creme of monitors and it comes down to whether you prefer the design of this or the x34 both of them have the same feature set and both of them are very similar in both ways so if I was buying one I probably would go for whichever one was a little bit cheaper but it depends which design really you prefer but I will retouch this subject on the x34 review coming up in the next couple of weeks for those wondering about fresh rate those of you that want 69 are better off looking at RG Swift or ACA Predator monitor both of which you can find at the little I actually as I've already done reviews for them but if you want one single monitor then I think an ultra wide like this is the way to go is this better than the x34 very difficult to say as I haven't actually used the x34 for longer than a couple hours of at an event but I can say that I will be testing the x34 in 2 weeks time so we will be a ble to give a full verdict and revisit this topic but if you're watching this video and you're wondering should I buy this monitor well if you can get over the cash I really don't think you're going to regret buying this monitor as it is class leading performance in gaming and in general use and if you are a real professional and you really need 100% of DCI color space or something then maybe this isn't the right monitor for you but for most people this is definitely the creme Diller Creme of monitors and it comes down to whether you prefer the design of this or the x34 both of them have the same feature set and both of them are very similar in both ways so if I was buying one I probably would go for whichever one was a little bit cheaper but it depends which design really you prefer but I will retouch this subject on the x34 review coming up in the next couple of weeks for those wondering about the award this easily wins The editor's Choice Awards I'm not sure whether I'll be buying one myself just because it is so expensive ensive but if you have this sort of money to spend on a monitor I
