Sony Xperia M2 - Camera Review with Picture & Video Samples

**Hands-On Review: Sony Xperia M2 Camera Performance**

Getting up close and personal with the camera on the Sony Xperia M2 is an experience that will leave you with mixed feelings. On one hand, the device's Superior Auto Mode delivers impressive results, especially outdoors. The 8-megapixel camera takes stunning pictures that are not only sharp but also lack overexposure. In fact, we were thoroughly impressed by the camera's performance in natural lighting conditions.

However, things take a different turn when it comes to indoor photography. The Xperia M2's camera struggles to deliver consistent results, especially in artificial light settings. We noticed that the camera can produce noise-filled images and tends to soften them, which might not be ideal for all users. The HDR mode does help in certain situations, but its effectiveness is limited.

**Video Recording Capabilities**

The Xperia M2's video recording capabilities are also worth mentioning. In outdoor conditions, the device manages to capture smooth footage at 1080p resolution with decent audio quality. However, when it comes to indoor recording, especially in artificial lighting, the video quality suffers. The camera struggles to maintain a sharp image, and the audio quality is not impressive either.

One thing that's worth noting is the lack of tap-to-focus functionality on this device. While the autofocus feature does work decently well in certain situations, it can be slow to respond when moving between subjects quickly. This limitation might be frustrating for users who rely heavily on their camera's ability to adjust focus seamlessly.

**Sample Shots and Comparison**

To get a better understanding of the Xperia M2's camera performance, we took some sample shots with the device. The pictures taken outdoors were excellent, with vibrant colors and sharp details. However, the indoor shots were not as impressive, with noticeable noise and softness issues. We also recorded a video using the device to assess its capabilities. While the outdoor video was smooth and crisp, the indoor footage suffered from softness and poor audio quality.

**Comparison with Other Devices**

For comparison, we looked at how the Xperia M2 performs against other devices in the same price bracket. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2's camera is indeed better than the Xperia M2's, particularly indoors. On the other hand, the LG L90's camera performance is comparable to the Xperia M2's, but it has some notable advantages.

**Conclusion**

Overall, we found the Sony Xperia M2's camera to be a decent option for those on a budget. While it delivers excellent results outdoors, its struggles with indoor photography and video recording capabilities are noticeable. However, if you're looking for a reliable camera in this price range, the Xperia M2 is worth considering. We'll also be publishing a full in-depth review of the device soon, so stay tuned for more information.

**Camera Settings and Features**

The Xperia M2's camera has several settings that can be adjusted manually to suit individual preferences. The maximum resolution is 8 megapixels, which can be reduced to 5 megapixels when shooting wide-screen images. Geo-tagging, auto-upload, and volume key as the zoom button are also available options. Additionally, the device features a "scenes" mode that allows for more creative control over image settings.

The camera also has an HDR mode, but its effectiveness is limited in certain situations. We also tested the video recording capabilities of the Xperia M2, which can record footage up to 1080p resolution. However, the audio quality is not impressive, especially indoors.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey there this is ranit and I have this Xperia M2 with me and in this video we'll be doing the camera review for this Xperia M2 the Xperia M Sports 8 map re facing camera with LED flash and this one can also record video up to 1080p that's full HD I have actually taken a lot of photographs and videos with this xedia M2 and I'll show you those a bit later the front facing camera is a VJ camera and before we proceed let me give you an camera overview actually the software is feature packed and if you can see by default it is very sparten you can just tap on an area and take the shot and it takes the shot uh we can adjust the basic settings like flash Etc from here but if you go here you can uh see all the modes and Sony has provided a lot of modes on this device let me just zoom in a little bit we have the superior auto mode which is the default which will auto adjust the mode uh for you we do also have the manual mode and we also have these extra effects like Panorama and the time shift burst uh that we get this is really interesting the time shift burst it takes a lot of photographs uh for example you have to agree for all these terms and you can select which one is better for example if you just select and and now if you take the shot it has taken about 30 shots and you can actually uh select which one is the best and save that so it's a nice thing in my opinion let me just go back now and uh let's change the mode we also have AR effects and these are fancy effects that we have seen in other Sony phones for example let's uh take this uh celebration and we just take a shot and for example I'll do that you just press here and we get these uh animated uh stuff like that and you take a shot and let's preview it for example we'll use this and as you can see see we can get some fancy effects like this so it's nice some will like it some will call it gimmicky but that is there uh let's get back to uh the manual mode here you have a lot of options and you can manually tweak stuff for example the maximum resolution is 8 map but if you want to go wide screen it lowers down to 5 mapix and uh we also have other other uh settings that you might expect for example Geo tagging auto upload you can use the volume key as the zoom button and you can switch between the internal storage or the SD card and uh we also have this option of scenes here in the manual mode uh we also do get the HDR mode uh in this device I did all my testing with the superior auto mode and actually have taken a lot of shots so I'll show you that a bit later regarding the video if you just depress this it will take the video and here are the basic settings for the video it can record video up to 108 DP that's the highest one and I have actually shot a video I'll show you that a bit later and I'll show you these pictures in full screen mode so that you can get a better idea regarding the camera performance of this Xperia M2 these were shot with the Xperia m2's rear facing camera Outdoors as you can see outdoors in natural lighting the pictures come out to be really good and the color accuracy is also very decent I'm recording this video with the Sony Xperia M2 at the highest setting possible that's 1080P and the audio that you're hearing is also being recorded by the internal microphone of this Xperia M2 and I'm just walking around in my roof garden now and this is kind of a shadowed area and let me quickly now move to a sunny area and let me slowly pan around again we don't have anything like tap to focus on this one and I'm going to walk back now I'm walking normally so this should give you an idea about the video recording capabilities on this Xperia M2 Outdoors now these photographs were taken in semi-indoor conditions and here the weakness of the camera is shown there's a little bit of noise in the pictures this came out to be a little bit okay but the pictures are a little bit soft and these sort of light riding conditions this is without HD and here I enabled the HDR now these pictures were taken in completely artificial light in my office and here it did a okayish job I would say it's not bad nothing great there is a little bit of noise in the pictures and though it can take decent pictures but the pictures if you notice are a little bit soft and also there is a little bit of noise in the pictures yes the flash does help a little bit but the flash is not very powerful full and this is without the Flash and this one was taken with the flash now I'm recording this video indoors with this Xperia F2 and this is in completely artificial light again we don't get any tap to focus but if you just move to a different subject like I'm doing quickly it does uh do the autofocusing so this should give you an idea about the video recording capabilities with this Xperia M2 indoors in completely artificial light so what do I feel about the camera performance of this Xperia M2 as we have seen from the sample shots actually Outdoors if you see this 8 megapix camera actually does a very good job and the pictures were very sharp and not Overexposed I would say it does a very good job Outdoors coming to indoors I noticed that the weaknesses of this camera are evident I wouldn't say it's the worst or the best it is kind of mediocre and uh I was able to get some decent shots even in artificial light but at times it gets confused in artificial light and you can notice a lot of noise coming to the video here I would say I was not that impressed even the outdoor video that it shot at 1080p was fine and the audio quality was also very good but the video was not very sharp and an artificial light if you have noticed the video called quality was even degraded and it was pretty soft so overall I would say it's a decent camera for the price you are paying uh certainly if you compare with some other Android devices in this price bracket for example the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 definitely its camera is better than the Grand 2 or even this LG L90 uh in outdoors I would say the LG L90 also performed very similar to this Xperia M2 but in indoor shorts and an artificial lighting definitely this Xperia M2 has a slight Edge I'll also be doing a full in-depth review for this Experia M2 very soon so if you aren't subscribed to my YouTube channel subscribe to the same thank you for watching this video this is
