The Evolution of Supercars: A Closer Look at the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica
As we stand behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica, it's hard not to feel a sense of excitement and curiosity about the improvements that this new iteration brings to the table. As a big fan of the Lamborghini Huracan, having owned two of them in the past - the LP 610 and a Huracan Evo Spider - I was eager to get behind the wheel of this latest model and see if it's improved upon its predecessors.
The first thing that struck me was the sound of the engine. Lamborghini claims that they've retuned the exhaust and made it sharper and more exciting, and I have to agree with them on that one. The sound is indeed different from previous iterations of the Huracan, but in a good way - it's got a bit of bite to it that adds to the overall driving experience.
But as much as I love the sound of the engine, there are some things about the Huracan Tecnica that don't sit right with me. One thing that's always been a bit of a mystery to me is why Lamborghini decided to create a track-focused version of the car that then dumbs it down again when it comes to road-going capabilities. I mean, take the Aventador SVJ and the Huracan Evo - they're both incredibly capable cars in their own right, but the Tecnica seems like a step backwards in terms of refinement and usability.
I know that some people might see this as a good thing, being able to create a car that's specifically designed for track use and then toning it down for road-going drivers. But for me, it just feels like a misstep. I think Lamborghini should have either stuck with the SVJ formula or created a completely new model that's focused solely on track performance.
Of course, not everyone will share my views on this one. And to be fair, the Huracan Tecnica does feel like a really well-rounded car - it's got the best of both worlds in terms of track and road capabilities. But for me, personally, I still can't shake off the feeling that this is a bit of an oddball model.
One thing that I do love about the Huracan Tecnica, though, is how instantaneous the throttle response is. Because it's naturally aspirated, the power delivery is so linear and predictable that it's just a joy to drive. And with the rear-wheel drive layout, you get that lively nature that makes the car feel like it's dancing on its feet.
But I do have one quibble - if you're in Corsa mode and try to engage the launch control at lower RPMs, it seems to keep the baffles completely shut down until around 4000-4500 RPM. Now, with an aftermarket exhaust system, this should be easily fixable, but it's still a bit of a weird quirk.
All told, though, I really do love the Huracan Tecnica. It drives incredibly well, and with that, the best handling Lamborghinis ever made (yes, even better than the Aventador SVJ). The engine is brilliant, the transmission is smooth, and the looks are just stunning. Whether you're on track or on the road, this car feels like it's been tailored specifically for your driving experience.
As I look to the future of Lamborghini, one thing is clear - they're moving in a direction that's all about performance and handling. And with cars like the Huracan Tecnica setting the standard, it's going to be exciting (and maybe even a little terrifying) to see what's next for this iconic supercar brand.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: ennext to me is the Lamborghini Huracan Technica now if you're confused on what the Technica is that's not uncommon because Lamborghini has produced 14 different variations of the Huracan since its original release in 2015. in today's video I'm going to show you is it actually worth its 240 000 price tag and what on Earth is the Lamborghini Huracan Technica in 2015 the Huracan replaced the Gallardo but that wasn't before a Lamborghini made 32 different versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo it was very successful but it might have been one too many I mean that puts Fast and Furious sequel numbers to Absolute shame now they've made a lot of huracans as well we had the lp 610 the lp 580 the Evo the Evo spider the rear-wheel drive Evo the sto including things like the one-off pope Huracan as well as an airport vehicle they've actually made 17 different versions of the Huracan as it stands but the latest and greatest from Santa Goda Bolognese is this the Lamborghini Huracan Technica now Lamborghini refers to it as kind of the best of all worlds of the Lamborghini Huracan family it's got the intense driving Dynamics and the track focused nature of the Huracan sto but it's got a more comfortable road going presence like the Huracan Evo under the hood of the Lamborghini Huracan Technica is a 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10 making 631 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque now in a world where all cars are going hybridized and forced induction this is the last amazing sounding car in its class and part of that is due to the revised exhaust system as you'll see Lamborghini says it's sharper and more exciting than before but really it looks awesome check this out it's a hexagon shape I've never seen an exhaust shaped like a hexagon before also looking at the rear end some differences from the Evo as well as the sto we've got kind of a smaller Wing than the Huracan STL but bigger than the Evo we've also got a super aggressive of rear diffuser as well I borrowed this car from Monza Exotics in Southern California a luxury rental car company if you're looking for an awesome Exotic rental Rolls-Royce Ghost Lamborghini Urus Huracan Technica they're the place to go awesome guys and good prices as well now while I'm down here let's talk about the rear axle steering this thing is rear-wheel drive only that's right super Lively and fun but it also has rear axle steering meaning it's more Nimble than ever it's been revised and retuned so I'm excited to try it out the easiest way to tell the Technica apart from the rest of the Huracan family is the new front bumper you'll notice up by the headlights is this new y-shaped design air curtain that's actually functional allows air to travel through here pass along the side of the vehicle that's inspired by the seon the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evo 2 as well it's also got this black strip on the hood to kind of continue that windshield line making the car look even more aggressive Lamborghini has re-channeled the airflow to add more cool air to the front and rear brakes now while the Evo didn't have much of this problem on my LP 610 the brake fluid boiled ones on the track and almost left me in utter disaster I had no brake feel whatsoever so having that extra airflow to cool things down is awesome now the side is very similar to the rest of the Huracan family the only real difference is this intake vent here is redesigned it actually does look pretty darn cool now the hood itself is actually made entirely from carbon fiber little bits and pieces of weight savings result in a curb weight that's only 85 pounds more than the full fledged track focused Huracan sto now something I found very interesting if you come and look at this badge here it says LP 640-2 talking about the horsepower but there's another car called the lp 640 and that is the legendary Murcielago all right let's hop inside the interior hasn't changed virtually at all from the Lamborghini Huracan Evo but that's not necessarily a bad thing as they did a fantastic job with that car's interior we've got the new multimedia system them it's touch screen the graphics are actually really nice easy to use it responds very very fast I mean this is leagues above the system that Mclaren has in their cars I've always loved the way the steering wheels feel in your hands of the Huracan got these beautiful paddles for the seven-speed Dual clutch transmission we've also got this dial here that you can select between strata mode Sport and Corsa the only real complaint I do have with the interior and it's kind of the same with all Lamborghinis particularly if you get a spider and that is the visibility as well as the Headroom the roof line just comes down really aggressively so part of your eyesight is actually cut off by this roof here and because the dash is so long and far away it creates this kind of like looking through this little mailbox slit Vibe it's interesting because Ferrari and McLaren have so much better visibility out of the front yet still have a similar layout and design now it's not necessarily a bad thing it's just something to get used to but it doesn't quite feel like you're as on top of the road and close to the ground with amazing visibility to place it on the road like a Ferrari McLaren or Porsche all right guys behind the wheel of the Huracan Technica now and I am very excited obviously I'm a big fan of the Lamborghini Huracan given the fact that I've owned two of them in LP 610 and a Huracan Evo spider so anytime they come out with a new version of the Huracan it's a very exciting thing I'm curious about the improvements no matter how small is it actually a better car than before I mean one thing is for sure it sounds unreal and funny enough Lamborghini clams they've retuned the exhaust and made it sharper and more exciting but I actually genuinely agree with that it does sound a teeny bit different than previous iterations of the Huracan now I'm going to start off with the negatives of this car and and it's honestly just a personal thing I don't really get the point of it I kind of wish that Lamborghini ended the Aventador with the svj and ended the Huracan with the sto the final Edition most track focused version of each one or I I kind of get the Serato that's the most ridiculous off-road Supercar of all time but the Aventador alternate as well as the Huracan Technica are strange Concepts to me because you're taking the road going car the Huracan Evo or the Lamborghini Aventador s and then you're turning it into the track focused version of that car like the svj or the sto but then you're dumbing it back down so it sits somewhere in between the Huracan Evo rear wheel drive and the Huracan sto and it sits price wise like that as well uh right smack dab in the middle it is significantly cheaper than the Huracan STM but it's an interesting setup trying to make a track focused car but then also trying to make it Road focused again I don't quite get it but you know what it turns out that they've accomplished that feed pretty darn well let's listen to this Beast I mean it doesn't get much better than that in today's day and age where we've got the f8 that sounds all right the Arturo that sounds alright the 296 that sounds okay this is a car that genuinely sounds freaking awesome all right we've got a nice stop sign here have clicked traction control once all right launch control 0-60 2.8 seconds this thing absolutely rips and the other thing I love about this car compared to almost every single other modern day Supercar is how instantaneous the throttle response is because it's naturally aspirated because that power delivery is so linear and so predictable it's just such a fun car to drive and then the fact that it's rear-wheel drive gives you that Lively nature you can drift the absolute crap out of this thing if you so desire but it also makes the steering feel better and lighter this thing feels a lot lighter and more Nimble on its feet than the Huracan Evo did I like it the only thing I don't love is if you're in the lower RPM ranges I'm in Corsa mode and for some reason it keeps the baffles completely shut in the lower RPM ranges so the Corsa so listen it only until it gets to that four thousand forty five hundred RPM range that the baffles open up obviously with an aftermarket exhaust you can completely fix that but a little bit weird for this track focused car uh to have a kind of that quieter dumbed down exhaust and I don't remember that being the case with the Huracan sto all told I really like the car it drives very very well the sto and this are the best handling huracans and and the performante as well that they've ever made and absolutely incredible and I love the Lamborghini has moved in that direction no longer is it yeah the Gallardo looks cool but it doesn't drive that great no this car is Awesome from the engine to the transmission to the looks to the interior they've absolutely nailed it and it's going to be both exciting and terrifying to see what happens to future of the Lamborghini Huracan and that replaced
