Consumer Reports Test Out Robotic Mowers at Home This Summer
I haven't been out in the yard sweating over a lawnmower, which is a great relief. Great Bernie Detrick is one of four consumer report staffers trying out a robotic mower at home this summer. We also partnered with Cornell University's turf research center for control tests on four of these Little Robots.

The battery-powered Robomowers There's setup time you have to put in the perimeter wire driving a stake about every 18 inches to mark the territory then install the docking station and program. The mower setup can take several hours, but with the Honda It's an easy start. Although even with a self-propelled mower you do have to walk behind it, the Honda leaves those traditional smooth parallel stripes the robotic mowers wander about in a random pattern clipping as they go. The grass is evenly cut but the surface isn't smooth and looks kind of rough then.
It's down on their knees for a close-up inspection so what we're looking for is the grass to look like it was cut with a pair of scissors, a nice sharp clean edge.
