### **Introduction to the Book Haul**

Reagan kicked off her video by expressing her excitement about this “pretty big book haul.” She humorously acknowledged her tendency to accumulate books and mentioned how birthday gift cards from her favorite independent bookstore in Austin needed a purpose. With Chicago being far from her beloved bookstore, she made it a necessity to spend the gift cards wisely—resulting in an array of new reads that promise endless hours of literary enjoyment.

### **1. *The Disappearances* by Emily Bane Murphy**

The first book on Reagan’s list is *The Disappearances*, the Protopia Book Club pick for the month. This novel follows Aaliyah, whose mother has passed away and whose father is conscripted into World War II, forcing her to move to her mother’s hometown. Upon arrival, she discovers a town steeped in mystery and secrets, cursed to lose something every seven years. The story combines darkness with a small-town feel, intriguing Reagan with its unique blend of suspense and charm. She highly recommends it and even mentions a giveaway from HMH Teen, offering free copies to viewers who follow their Instagram page.

### **2. *The Last Magician* by Lisa Maxwell**

Next up is *The Last Magician*, one of Reagan’s most anticipated reads of the year. Set in modern-day New York, where magic is extinct but still practiced in secret, this book follows Esta, a thief who steals magical artifacts. The story centers on Meod, a girl enslaved since birth who discovers her magical potential when spotted by a bard. This series, described as “Tolkien-esque,” is a YA fantasy gem that Reagan can’t wait to explore.

With magic and adventure at its core, this middle-grade fantasy has earned rave reviews, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.

Reagan couldn’t resist *The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue*, a book she describes as hilarious with an exceptional audiobook version. Reagan is already planning her next read.

### **6. *Wake of Vultures* by Leela Bowen**

A paranormal Western fantasy novel, *Wake of Vultures*, caught Reagan’s attention after discovering Patrick Rothfuss loved it. This unique blend of genres has Reagan excited for the adventure ahead.

### **7. *The Dragons of Nova* by Elise Kova**

Reagan is thrilled to have the sequel to *The Alchemist of Loom*, *The Dragons of Nova*. This steampunk and fantasy hybrid follows Ari, a notorious outlaw harvesting dragon organs in a world with parallel Londons ruled by dragon overlords. The unique setting and fast-paced action make this series a standout for Reagan.

it's hilarious and the Audi book is amazing quickly reading over the description of this book I'm pretty sure I'm going to be obsessed with it it follows our main character who has been bred to be a really soon the next book I have to show you guys I've never heard of and I just kind of stumbled upon at the bookstore but it sounds awesome and it is wake of vultures by Leela Bowen this book just sounds crazy and then when I looked it up on Goodreads I saw that Patrick ralice blurped it and gave it five out of five stars so I was like all right I see you this is like a paranormal Western fantasy novel I know like just take that in for a second this follows our main character who is attacked by a vampire and then wakes up and realizes all the Paranormal and Fantastical creatures that have been surrounding her she gets pulled into that world and kind of I think joins a group of uh like Monster Hunters I don't know like I said Western setting paranormal elements it sounds really really interesting and Patrick Rus liked it so here we are book I have to show you guys is the dragons of Nova by Elise which is the sequel to The Alchemist of loom by Elise kova and you guys know I've already read and really enjoyed this book and this sequel just came out so I had to get my hands on it just continuing where the last book took off this is a world that I just think is such an interesting fantasy world Wells a couple of characters but our main character's name is Ari who's a notorious Outlaw and Thief she is known as the white wraith and she basically Steals and harvests Dragons organs and sells them on the black market this fantasy world is incredibly unique it combines steampunk elements with fantastic itical Dragon elements essentially there are creatures who are in charge of this world who are the dragon overlords and have magical powers that are kind of centered in their organs and then the humans that the dragons reside are organized by factions it's just like I said an incredibly unique fantasy world full of fast-paced action and great characters I really love the first book and eded on quite the Cliffhanger so I'm really excited to dive into the sequel and now I have it so the next two books I have to show you are another reissue of a childhood fantasy book that I en enjoyed um it is the thief series by Megan Waller Turner I again stumbled upon these at the bookstore and realized they have new covers so this is the new one this is the thief and then I also got the sequel the queen of atah by the same author and this again has a new book that just came out in this series which is why I think they got repackaged this is a really good book I only read the first one and I really enjoyed it basically follows our main character Jen who can steal anything and he's kind of hired on by the monarchy to begin stealing things of high power around he gets trapped in a lot of political scenarios and it's just really really good and I think each book gets heightened again I've only read the first one so I'm excited to see how the rest of the story plays out and again I just love these new covers so much the next book I have to show you guys is the lovely Reckless by Camy Garcia and this is a ya contemporary Story full stock full of drama romance and all kinds of delicious things you like to read in these books this follows our main character Frankie whose life is has kind of Fallen apart and she's kind of told herself nothing matters so she isn't really phased when she has to move in with her dad who is an undercover cop and has to transfer schools then enters a boy and then things get a little more complicated as it were and this just sounds like a whole lot of fun a whole lot of romance and just a dang good old time you know what I mean you know what I mean book I'm going to show off you're going to be like Reagan don't you own that book I did my mom accidentally gave it away which is fine I just got it again I was at the bookstore had a gift card and that is a darker shade of Magic by V Schwab this is her adult ya I'm not sure actually what genre this fits in fantasy series that people love I've read the first one and it's been a while so I wanted to reread it before continuing on this is a world that's following parallel London there's gry London which has no magic there's red London where magic is revered and practiced normally there's white London which is kind of being drained of its magical power and it has a very intense political system and then there's black London which no longer exists and nobody talks about this followers her main character that can jump between all of these parallel londons and an adventure ensues and I really did enjoy this first book I want to reread it and continue on with the story so I'm excited to have it again next book was another book I had never heard of and I stumbled upon in the bookstore and I'm so excited about it okay and it is the bear and the night and Gale by Katherine Arden this book just sounds like everything I love it's like a Whimsical dark fairy tale tale fantasy story that is creepy and I'm here for it and it's set in Russia I just realized it was set in Russia I don't even know how else I could like this book more than I than I do it's like it's too much this is about a family who lives on the edge of a forest the mother passes away her father remarries she doesn't like the stepmother kind of forbids the whole family from practicing and listening to the old Tales of demon spirits that live in the forest when the demon Spirits start to awaken things get complicated I'm so excited about this book I'm so so excited I found it at the bookstore the last four books I got at Book Outlet as you guys know I have a book Outlet page which I'll leave link down below but yes the first two books I'm going to show you guys are by Neil giman I mentioned recently that I wanted to read more Neil giman and so when I found two of his books on the site for a really good price I picked them up the first one is Coraline by Neil giman which yes I have never read and I love it this cover it's the the British cover I just think it's so so so so so cute this has obviously been turned into a movie it's about a young girl who I think travels through a small door and gets transported to another world honestly I don't want to know too much about this but I know it's middle grade I know it has a creepy element and Neil giman wrote it so I'm sure I'm really going to like it also picked up never wear by Neil gaim which is one of the books I feel like I'm going to really love by him this is a dark urban fantasy story again kind of following parallel londons there's the London that's above ground but there's this dark secret London that people kind of fall through the cracks literally and then are now present in this like magical underbelly of the city and cannot Escape I have been really interested in this book for a long long long time and I'm glad I finally have it in my possession and I actually really love this addition of it so huzzah next up I accidentally picked up the library edition of Shadow scale by Rachel harness this is a sequel to saraphina which I picked up last month this is a dragon centered ya fantasy series that I'm really interested in getting into and so when I saw the sequel for a really good price on Book Outlet I couldn't say no and plus I don't know I just can never not have enough Fantasy on my shelf I just need to have an endless amount of fantasy to peruse and pick from so I just like to stock up when I see a good price and the last book I picked up is the reader by Tracy Shay this is a book that has intrigued me since it's released so I was super pumped to see it for literally $7 on Book Outlet so I believe this is set in a world where there are no books and no stories as follow as our main character SE who has lived her life on the Run kind of running through the Wilderness running from people who are always searching for her and then she discovers a strange rectangular object that was left to her by her Father which she soon discovers is a book and this kind of lets her fall into this world of stories and she begins to learn and I believe that begins to impact not only her life but the world around her this just sounds really really good I've heard fantastic things about the writing I hear the pros in this is just beautiful and enveloping and just lovely so I'm very excited to own and have this book um and I'm very excited to read it all righty guys there is my embarrassingly too large July book haul but like I said this is my favorite book haul I think I've ever filmed I don't know there's just so many books in this haul that I'm super giman which yes I have never read and I love it this cover it's the the British cover I just think it's so so so so so cute this has obviously been turned into a movie it's about a young girl who I think travels through a small door and gets transported to another world honestly I don't want to know too much about this but I know it's middle grade I know it has a creepy element and Neil giman wrote it so I'm sure I'm really going to like it also picked up never wear by Neil gaim which is one of the books I feel like I'm going to really love by him this is a dark urban fantasy story again kind of following parallel londons there's the London that's above ground but there's this dark secret London that people kind of fall through the cracks literally and then are now present in this like magical underbelly of the city and cannot Escape I have been really interested in this book for a long long long time and I'm glad I finally have it in my possession and I actually really love this addition of it so huzzah next up I accidentally picked up the library edition of Shadow scale by Rachel harness this is a sequel to saraphina which I picked up last month this is a dragon centered ya fantasy series that I'm really interested in getting into and so when I saw the sequel for a really good price on Book Outlet I couldn't say no and plus I don't know I just can never not have enough Fantasy on my shelf I just need to have an endless amount of fantasy to peruse and pick from so I just like to stock up when I see a good price and the last book I picked up is the reader by Tracy Shay this is a book that has intrigued me since it's released so I was super pumped to see it for literally $7 on Book Outlet so I believe this is set in a world where there are no books and no stories as follow as our main character SE who has lived her life on the Run kind of running through the Wilderness running from people who are always searching for her and then she discovers a strange rectangular object that was left to her by her Father which she soon discovers is a book and this kind of lets her fall into this world of stories and she begins to learn and I believe that begins to impact not only her life but the world around her this just sounds really really good I've heard fantastic things about the writing I hear the pros in this is just beautiful and enveloping and just lovely so I'm very excited to own and have this book um and I'm very excited to read it all righty guys there is my embarrassingly too large July book haul but like I said this is my favorite book haul I think I've ever filmed I don't know there's just so many books in this haul that I'm super excited about anyway I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I will see you soon with another one soon goodbye\n"
