The Review: 2022 Porsche Macan
As we sat down to test drive this particular 2022 Porsche Macan, it was clear that this compact luxury SUV is still right with its automatic backup features and 360-degree camera system. The reviewer appreciated the ability to spin around easily while parking, but noted that the lane-keep assist feature did not quite live up to expectations.
The reviewer also took note of the materials used in the vehicle's interior, praising the matte finish on the seat trim as a nice touch. They felt that this attention to detail helped to maintain a premium feel without relying too heavily on gloss accents. However, they noted that some parts of the interior still felt slightly cheap, such as the armrests.
Moving on to the seats, the reviewer found them to be very supportive and comfortable, even in their base model configuration. They appreciated the visors, which were a nice touch, although the reviewer did have a negative experience with a "huge fail" - specifically, they tried to pass a "visor test" (which was not clearly explained) but failed.
The reviewer also took note of the cup holders, noting that one of their cups had a little riser that made it look like it would fit a small cup perfectly. They appreciated this thoughtful touch, which seemed designed to make the vehicle more practical for everyday use.
As we got behind the wheel and started driving, the reviewer was impressed with how light and effortless the steering felt - especially when navigating through tight spaces or parking in crowded lots. However, they noted that once they turned on the traction control and other features, the car's handling became slightly less responsive.
One of the most notable features of this Macan is its all-wheel drive system, which was noted to be rear-biased. While this made it feel like the vehicle was "coddling" the driver, the reviewer appreciated the precision and responsiveness that came with it - even when driving on a road with traction control enabled.
The reviewer also took note of the various modes available on the Macan's transmission system, including Sport and PSM (Porsche Stability Management). They noted that as you step up to higher trims, these features become more advanced and responsive. However, they were not able to test out this feature in full due to its high price point.
Finally, the reviewer discussed the issue of availability and pricing for this vehicle. With a starting price of $58,500 CAD, this Macan is certainly an affordable option - but it's also worth noting that Porsche dealerships have been struggling with supply chain issues and long wait times due to the ongoing chip shortage. The reviewer speculated that in order to get their hands on one of these vehicles, they might be forced to opt for a higher trim level or even a Macan GTS.
In terms of pricing, our test car was optioned out to $73,000 CAD - which is certainly a significant amount of money. However, it's worth noting that this is still relatively affordable compared to some of Porsche's other offerings. Ultimately, the question remains: can you actually order one of these base Macans before they sell out? The reviewer left us with some speculation and uncertainty on this front, but we'll have to wait and see if the situation improves in the coming months.
Price:
The 2022 Porsche Macan starts at $58,500 CAD. With options added, it can go up to $73,000 CAD.
The verdict: This compact luxury SUV is a great option for those looking for a premium driving experience without breaking the bank. However, with limited availability and a high price point, buyers may need to be prepared to wait or opt for a higher trim level.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eni'm jacob we're going for a drive the updated 2022 porsche macan with unofficial launch control that is still really quick horsepower and torque horsepower 295 pound-feet of torque from a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo and this is the base model yeah we don't really drive many base models but it's nice as a refresher and then this being the base there is a s and a gts above it yeah they removed the turbo model and then they gave the gts the prior year's turbo engine which is interesting sunday we're going to be posting this 2022 bmw m3 competition xdrive daily driving video so come back tomorrow or subscribe to check it out and the big updates to this are in the interior they've updated the infotainment and all of your buttons from that stack of hard buttons to these gloss buttons yeah which we're not big fans of but we'll get to that later and then and the back end yes so bumpers and stuff like that so if you're actually shopping for a macon you're probably wondering what the rear seat space is like and the trunk space now would be a good time to show you continuity errors aside because yuri's not beside me is actually behind the camera now at six foot one and a half sitting behind myself in a comfortable position my knees do actually touch the back here my head also touches slightly but if yuri was sitting back here or even in the front at five foot eight and a half everything would be totally fine and let's check the trunk space so you open it up by pressing this little button right below the windshield wiper decent amount of room i'd say a little bit less than an x3 or something like that and to fold down the seats you got to reach like this slightly uncomfortably there's no buttons back here which would have been nice so you got to kind of walk around here and when you do get the seats down decent amount of room again i think an x3 or glc might have a little bit more but pretty good overall let's see what else you're shopping for if you're looking for a macan so you probably also want to know about its power and handling so we're going to send it into cliche corner i'm going to be in sport mode and traction off now there's no way to get this into manual with the shifter there's actually this little button on the steering wheel that says m minus plus manual shifting mode activated if you don't press that and you press down shift then you'll just be redirected into automatic so let's send it now with a real downshift and i mean this thing still rips like for a base model this hooks up like there's not much body roll still rotation if i didn't know this was a base model it'd be kind of hard to tell especially in the winter there has never been a porsche that does not handle like a porsche no like this thing's great and this pdk is really really good it's a seven speed downshift and upshift up shift like it nails them like every time it's so quick the thing handles like a porsche it drives like a porsche other than a little bit of a lack of power considering this is a two liter four-cylinder but it's a very smooth and refined two-liter four-cylinder and even when you're in manual mode it'll force you to auto-up shift even with traction all the way off exactly so you never get to like sit at redline but i mean redline's still pretty high it's almost seven grand it's pretty it's nice to get it that high in a base model basement con yeah but at least it's not the same shifter from the 911s which is like the little bronze shaver or whatever yeah and that's another thing that they updated so this is a new shifter you just lose that m mode because you can't move it to the side anymore you also do get a new steering wheel which i believe is lifted from the 911s but since this is a base model we don't have the little dial to change your drive modes you only have the sport button on your center console which is gloss black so if i hit this i'm going to turn it off i feel like this car is now well it is i think the slowest porsche we've driven and i think driving this in regular mode non-sport really shows you that it's a base model because i feel like i'm really lugging the engine right now it's just like it's in too high of a gear i feel like i have to drive this in sport so that it feels like a porsche to me it's weird not driving super fast porsches but we are probably the most spoiled but even comparing this to an s or even a bmw x3 even driving that in a regular mode in comfort mode i don't feel like i'm lugging the engine okay and back to the sport button what's cool about this is it doesn't look like you can see through it and see missing buttons that are blacked out it actually looks like all the buttons you see here are the buttons you get it doesn't look fake yeah so you don't get as many missing buttons as you would on the previous generation you just get like all those blanks whereas now it's kind of it's hidden in this gloss blackness well even the first one that we had with the kind of setup like this instead of heart buttons remember you could see through and see what options you were missing this i cannot see anything there i feel like they changed that to make up for all the stuff people were complaining about perhaps whatever texture they used but it did it looks i mean the the whatever the glasses i can not see a single button through this glass anymore yeah so you do control everything down here you have your heated and cooled seats uh your heated steering wheel is hidden behind here as it is in every porsche on the steering wheel and i mean the paddles are really nice they're high quality they're metal they do get cold in the winter which kind of feels very premium at the same time and suspension wise this actually feels really good it's not adaptive it is definitely on the stiffer side but it's not jarring it just it's got this like very satisfying kind of clunk over but not like a clunk but like you know you know what i mean it feels a solid build quality exactly of suspension firm but not like race car yeah like i got out of the sti and then into this went over the same speed bumps that i did in the sti and this felt like an s-class in comparison in comparison so everything's relative and you're buying this you're probably buying this as your very first porsche because if it's your second or third porsche you're probably not buying a base cheapest model that they sell for sure this is like an entry level to get you into the brand anything you get out of to get into this this is going to feel good for sure the engine isn't the best but for being a two liter four cylinder it's very very smooth and quiet but when you're flooring it i mean you get a lot of torque like it does throw you back in your seat for being a base model it throws you back for the launch which is the most surprising part yeah and when we say unofficial launch control it still does hold revs at about 4000 because we do have the pdk but it just doesn't say launch control like an s or a gts would it is a real launch control and then there's also a sport chrono package which you can get on this which i believe would then say launch control because then your 0 to 60 is improved by about 0.2 seconds and this one is around the six second range which is i mean it's not slow and it doesn't feel slow and handling wise like this still feels like it would destroy like an x3 or a glc especially any base model of those you probably couldn't drift this up no i don't think so like i've been driving with traction off because there is no psm sport there's only on or off and i still feel like i'm in control i feel like it's not fully off you know what i mean well it's a base model yeah there's only one off oh yeah yeah this is the this is the this is the entrance like hey you like porsche right okay now buy more buy more yeah yeah but let's get on to all the fun stuff with the looks and the interior with you in the driver's seat first one of 2022. all right i wore my true car shirt because tons of people tell us they buy macans off our videos and if you're looking for a pneuma con hit up tsp.truecar.com link in the description discounted price office and we actually had a fan tell us he bought a gti off tsp.truecar.com he got below msrp pricing and a discount and when he went to the dealer they honored it and it was a great experience that sounds pretty fantastic i mean it's hard not to click that link in the description launch control better than what i'd expect from a base model but since it's a porsche it's exactly what they should be offering in a base model if you didn't tell someone this was a base model and you sent them in this launch control you wouldn't really know yeah you could definitely trick some noobs to driving yeah it's really really good okay looks wise the changes aren't really that dramatic they changed the front end up a bit and a little bit in the back around the diffuser and the exhaust tips yeah i really like what they did in the back end like it's a large diffuser now and it kind of goes way up the bumper unfortunately we have this dark blue is it called gentian blue yes it is can't really see all the dark body lines against it savage geese has a really nice video with an orange one where you can see everything pop a lot more but what you can see is that the exhaust tips are actually connected and it doesn't sound the best but let's take a listen from the outside but what you can do in this is rev it all the way to redline in park yeah like come on great job and there's even little crackles and pops yeah so let's just test that out we're in sport yeah there's no valved exhaust here well there is but you can't control it you get the i guess when you put it in sport that does kind of open up the valve yeah you can see the left valve open in sport so i mean you can't independently control it there's no valve button yes that isn't the sport and then at the front i feel like they took some inspiration from the new gti like that line that kind of goes all the way around kind of like the tony stark mustache yeah i didn't notice that until you pointed out but it's that's definitely what it is volkswagen group right sam same company technically and i mean if i looked at this and i didn't look twice like i wouldn't really know as updated or refreshed i think they just had to do something different it looks like a good refresh and when you compare it to the old one to the new one it is pretty noticeable but without comparing that's what i'm saying if i saw this on the road oh yeah maybe that's a new one maybe it's two years old i'm not sure oh my god does that have the diamond texture on the side blades it must be at 2022. exactly so this has a diamond texture on the side blades now yeah it looks cool and it carries on a little bit at the front two on the bumper i don't mind it i think that's a cool design feature yeah i really like that and then i also really like these wheels like these are just standard five spoke they're 20s they just look so clean i think i would option them in bronze but it does look good on this yeah these wheels are cool and what's the continental recommended tire for a basement con the xtreme contact dws-06 on the website they still offer color matched wheels but the color match for this generation is different than the old ones where they'd be the exact same color on the full wheel and that's hard to sell like on the like on the face the whole wheel used to be the same color now the color matched wheels have a version where it's on the inside so it's still there but it's more subtle so you don't look like a crazy person driving a green macan with green wheels right interesting which is what i would do yeah yeah i'd go crazy yes let us know what you guys did if you specked out one of your own did you go with the color match and do you think this is a better color match than the previous color match or which one did you buy already specto from the dealership at tsp.truecar.com discounted price offers and then the headlights same old style tail lights same old style nothing really going on it kind of sucks not having an s or a turbo or gts badge next to the macan exactly like at least the s so you should do a bat you should do a badge delete if you get a base model yes for the free badges elite yeah overall looks wise pretty alright do you like it more than the bmws or mercedes-benz's i actually do like it a lot more than the bmw like i really don't like that new x3 with the crazy tail lights and stuff but i mean mcconnell still looks like a macan yeah i think i like the others more but this still looks like a nice porsche so i don't blame anyone for wanting to pick this and wanting a porsche over a bmw or benz because i guess porsche's like a little higher up it is a tier above i would say and as for interior we still have the old style gauges which is awesome best gauges of all time i don't like new porsche style gauges one bit i know these are amazing and then we've got the new ish style infotainment i think the same one we had last year because there is the newer tycon style right which is also on the 911s this is one like half generation back at this point so we've got wireless apple carplay but no android auto right which other porsches they recently announced that are getting android auto but this one still doesn't have it even though it's the refresh macan and what's cool about this one is we do have a full 360 camera in here that was optioned but we pretty much need the full 360 camera your driver edition cayenne didn't have a 360 camera what a waste yeah yeah well it is pretty good in here i find it not too warpy i think the newer ones are even warpier than this one okay well look at that sti wing when we check out our parking assist it can do a bit of warpiness yeah so it does have parking assist which is pretty cool there's a button for it down here and it does work really well yeah just parallel parking like it's cool yeah it's got it but then the overall parking assist in this porsche compared to all of the different stuff you get out of like a three-year-old x3 or whatever it's still right with like the automatic backup stuff like that you could do through the infotainment yeah you could like spin around around your 360 camera right yeah but it's okay as for lane keep it'll go like this yeah so there it doesn't reel you back in even though we do have the option for it and we do have this little button down here and it is on but it doesn't pull you back it doesn't center you yeah alerts you not the good new stuff and again not competing well with an x3 right which would have like the stuff that centers you in traffic and all that yeah this doesn't even have a radar cruise but yeah i know you can option that stuff but this particular one does not yeah so let's talk about some materials in here obviously it's a porsche they're pretty damn good i really like that this particular one has this mat right in front of me usually it'd be some kind of gloss thing not that you'd ever touch this but it does look nice being matte there's not too much gloss in here but it's still isn't it usually gloss and like high-end portions that's what i'm saying so like it still manages to look premium without having to have gloss black other than the center console and not gross and sticky yeah i really like it like there is you know some cheapness here and there like i wouldn't say this in terms of like which one's the cheapest part everything i just kind of saw this tan looks and feels a little bit stiff right up here compared to the tan like over here you know what i mean not that you'd ever touch this but just just same the armrest yeah it's nice and soft but you can get whatever you want it's a portion like leather and stuff like that so i like the tan it's nice yeah the tan is really cool and the seats being like base seats they're still very supportive very comfortable yeah and then the visors let's find out if this passes the visor test three two one fail a huge fail and then as for cup holders one of our cups has a little riser so it looks like it's going to fit a small just fine yeah it's nice that they do that another thing i like about this putting around going to malls and stuff steering is super light it feels super boosted so you can just like get into spots crank the wheels super easy it's so effortless yeah but on the road when you're actually like driving i noticed that it's so over boosted you have to be very careful because you might just take yourself out of the lane it's just it's that boosted okay now i'm going to hit up cliche corner in automatic not in sport mode just like a direction on too traction on just like a normal person would who was on their day and just passing through here and automatically downshifted there for you still feels all right but definitely not as good as it would if you had everything all turned off and in spore mode yeah and it is all-wheel drive it is definitely rear biased and you can feel that yeah but with everything on it feels like it's like really coddling you yes and like you're not actually going to experience the full portion of us that is hidden beneath yes these two board and traction off and the manual button exactly it's like as you step up into porsches you get the psm sport and then as you get into like the gt models you get like the real psm stuff and then you can just turn it fully off okay so with this new 2022 macan is that pretty much everything i'd say that's everything let's get to the price this one starts at 58 500 canadian this one's optioned out to 73 000 porsches are expensive they are it's quite a bit of money and this is the cheapest one yeah with a few options very few but now the real question is can you actually order one this inexpensive because of the chip shortage and everything and the long lines and wait times to get a porsche they might make you get a macan gts to make it more worth their while to give you an allocation i don't really know how it all works i feel like they still have to sell base models like they have to yeah fully loaded based models maybe maybe maybe this one has to cost 100k canadian to get one sooner i don't know let us know if you guys have had a porsche dealership experience and you tried to order like a super base one but they like wouldn't let you like you know what you really need those turn signals in uh chalk or something like that or let us know if they show up on tsp.truecar.com thanks guys happy new year happy new year this is the first video that we filmed this year we're back we're back youi'm jacob we're going for a drive the updated 2022 porsche macan with unofficial launch control that is still really quick horsepower and torque horsepower actually feels really good it's not adaptive it is definitely on the stiffer side but it's not jarring it just it's got this like very satisfying kind of clunk over but not like a clunk but like you know you know what i mean it feels a solid build quality exactly of suspension firm but not like race car yeah like i got out of the sti and then into this went over the same speed bumps that i did in but it does look good on this yeah these wheels are cool and what's the continental recommended tire for a basement con the xtreme contact dws-06 on the website they still offer color matched wheels but the color match for this generation is different than the old ones where they'd be the exact same color on the full wheel and that's hard to sell like on the like on the face the whole wheel used delete if you get a base model yes for the free badges elite yeah overall looks wise pretty alright do you like it more than the bmws or mercedes-benz's i actually do like it a lot more than the bmw like i really don't like that new x3 with the crazy tail lights and stuff but i mean mcconnell still looks like a macan yeah i think i like the others more but this still looks like a nice porsche so i don't blame anyone for wanting to pick this and wanting a porsche over a bmw or benz because i guess porsche's like a little higher up it is a tier above i would say and as for interior we still have the old style gauges which is awesome best gauges of all time i don't like new porsche style gauges one bit i know these are amazing and then we've got the new ish style infotainment i think the same one we had last year because there is the newer tycon style right which is also on the 911s this is one like half generation back at this point so we've got wireless apple carplay but no android auto right which other porsches they recently announced that are getting android auto but this one still doesn't have it even though it's the refresh macan and what's cool about this one is we do have a full 360 camera in here that was optioned but we pretty much need the full 360 camera your driver edition cayenne didn't have a 360 camera what a waste yeah yeah well it is pretty good in here i find it not too warpy i think the newer ones are even warpier than this one okay well look at that sti wing when we check out our parking assist it can do a bit of warpiness yeah so it does have parking assist which is pretty cool there's a button for it down here and it does work really well yeah just parallel parking like it's cool yeah it's got it but then the overall parking assist in this porsche compared to all of the different stuff you get out of like a three-year-old x3 or whatever it's still right with like the automatic backup stuff like that you could do through the infotainment yeah you could like spin around around your 360 camera right yeah but it's okay as for lane keep it'll go like this yeah so there it doesn't reel you back in even though we do have the option for it and we do have this little button down here and it is on but it doesn't pull you back it doesn't center you yeah alerts you not the good new stuff and again not competing well with an x3 right which would have like the stuff that centers you in traffic and all that yeah this doesn't even have a radar cruise but yeah i know you can option that stuff but this particular one does not yeah so let's talk about some materials in here obviously it's a porsche they're pretty damn good i really like that this particular one has this mat right in front of me usually it'd be some kind of gloss thing not that you'd ever touch this but it does look nice being matte there's not too much gloss in here but it's still isn't it usually gloss and like high-end portions that's what i'm saying so like it still manages to look premium without having to have gloss black other than the center console and not gross and sticky yeah i really like it like there is you know some cheapness here and there like i wouldn't say this in terms of like which one's the cheapest part everything i just kind of saw this tan looks and feels a little bit stiff right up here compared to the tan like over here you know what i mean not that you'd ever touch this but just just same the armrest yeah it's nice and soft but you can get whatever you want it's a portion like leather and stuff like that so i like the tan it's nice yeah the tan is really cool and the seats being like base seats they're still very supportive very comfortable yeah and then the visors let's find out if this passes the visor test three two one fail a huge fail and then as for cup holders one of our cups has a little riser so it looks like it's going to fit a small just fine yeah it's nice that they do that another thing i like about this putting around going to malls and stuff steering is super light it feels super boosted so you can just like get into spots crank the wheels super easy it's so effortless yeah but on the road when you're actually like driving i noticed that it's so over boosted you have to be very careful because you might just take yourself out of the lane it's just it's that boosted okay now i'm going to hit up cliche corner in automatic not in sport mode just like a direction on too traction on just like a normal person would who was on their day and just passing through here and automatically downshifted there for you still feels all right but definitely not as good as it would if you had everything all turned off and in spore mode yeah and it is all-wheel drive it is definitely rear biased and you can feel that yeah but with everything on it feels like it's like really coddling you yes and like you're not actually going to experience the full portion of us that is hidden beneath yes these two board and traction off and the manual button exactly it's like as you step up into porsches you get the psm sport and then as you get into like the gt models you get like the real psm stuff and then you can just turn it fully off okay so with this new 2022 macan is that pretty much everything i'd say that's everything let's get to the price this one starts at 58 500 canadian this one's optioned out to 73 000 porsches are expensive they are it's quite a bit of money and this is the cheapest one yeah with a few options very few but now the real question is can you actually order one this inexpensive because of the chip shortage and everything and the long lines and wait times to get a porsche they might make you get a macan gts to make it more worth their while to give you an allocation i don't really know how it all works i feel like they still have to sell base models like they have to yeah fully loaded based models maybe maybe maybe this one has to cost 100k canadian to get one sooner i don't know let us know if you guys have had a porsche dealership experience and you tried to order like a super base one but they like wouldn't let you like you know what you really need those turn signals in uh chalk or something like that or let us know if they show up on tsp.truecar.com thanks guys happy new year happy new year this is the first video that we filmed this year we're back we're back you\n"
